Meuer, Donald J.

HILLSBORO - Donald J. Meuer, age 76, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at St. Joseph's Memorial Hospital, Hillsboro. He was born on July 8, 1926, to William and Marie (Meyer) Meuer in Middleton, Wis. He grew to adulthood at Middleton and graduated from Middleton High School. Donald served in the U.S. Army in World War II. Donald was united in marriage to Dorothy Stepka Sinkule on Nov. 29, 1988. He worked as an insurance agent throughout the area. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Hillsboro; and four sisters, Joyce Friedl of Madison, Ginny Adler of Madison, Carol Dobel of California, and Arlene Lumsden of Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Sylvester, Francis, William, Thomas and Joseph; and three sisters, Faye Rosenthal, Rosemary Bowar and Janet Meuer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 21, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at ST. ALOYSIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Hillsboro, with Father Wayne Kidd officiating. Burial will be in the St. John's Catholic cemetery at Dilly. Friends may call on Sunday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at PICHA FUNERAL HOME, Hillsboro, with a Bible vigil and Knights of Columbus Rosary at 8 p.m.

Rabin, Rhoda S.

MADISON - Rhoda S. Rabin died on Friday, April 11, 2003, at age 76. She taught piano pedagogy and pre-school children at the University of Louisville, Boston University and New England Conservatory. She also guest lectured at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and at conferences for musicians and pre-school educators around the world. In addition, she had a private piano studio in Lexington, Ky., and Madison. As described in her acclaimed book, "At the Beginning: Teaching Piano to the Very Young Child, " she developed an innovative approach to teaching piano to 3 to 8 year-olds. She also played string bass in the Louisville and Madison Symphonies and an all-female swing band during her college years. She is listed in Who's Who of American Women. She studied at New York City's Music and Art High School and the Tanglewood Music Center before graduating from the Eastman School of Music with a double major in piano and string bass in 1948. During her last year at Eastman, she served as class president and met her husband, Marvin Rabin. Graduate work at the Juilliard School of Music followed. Survivors include her husband, Marvin; their two sons, Ralph (wife Carol Willett) of Madison, and David of Washington, D.C.; their daughter, Martha (husband Frank Widman) of Boulder Creek, Calif.; and three granddaughters, Camilla and Daniella Willett-Rabin and Sophie Rabin Widman. A celebration of her life will be held this Saturday, April 19, 2003, at 1 p.m. at FIRST UNITARIAN CHURCH, 900 University Bay Drive, Madison. A reception will follow at 2 p.m. Please join her family in sharing your stories about Rhoda. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rhoda Rabin Music Education Fund, 4 Sebring Court, Madison, WI 53719. She was a warm and loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and teacher, and will be missed by the many people she touched and enriched.

Schwartz, Russell M. "Bucky"

MADISON/ DARLINGTON - Russ, age 79, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2003, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center, Fitchburg. He was born on May 24, 1923, in Darlington, the son of Raymond and Nina (Lancaster) Schwartz. Russ attended school in Darlington and upon graduation enlisted in the U.S. Army in January 1943 and he returned home in December 1945, a veteran of World War II as a corporal with an honorable discharge. He graduated from the UW in 1949 with a B.S. in electronics. On Dec. 18, 1948, Russ was united in marriage to Helen "Ginny" Frontz in Darlington. He was employed as an electronics technician at Chic Young TV. In later years Russ worked at the UW as a maintenance technician until retiring. He is survived by his wife, Helen; three sons, Eric (Barb) Schwartz of Darlington, Rick (Chris) Schwartz of Fitchburg, and Craig Schwartz of Madison; four grandchildren, Kevin Schwartz of Fond du Lac, Jaci (Tom) Bennett of Shullsburg, and Jim and Kelsie Schwartz of Fitchburg; three step-grandchildren, Dustin Heyer of LaCrosse, Jackie Heyer of Savannah, and Jessica Halvorson of Darlington; two great-grandchildren, Cody J. Ryan of Cuba City, and Xavier Heyer of LaCrosse; three step-great-grandchildren, Cody, Alexus and Ceara Bennett of Shullsburg; and several nieces and nephews. Russ was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Carole (Bill) Crapp and Phyllis (Elmer) Crapp. Friends may greet the family from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2003, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. Sisson, Debi Jean

BELOIT/ MONTICELLO/ NEW GLARUS - Debi Jean Sisson, age 46, of Beloit, passed away at her home on Monday, April 14, 2003. She was born on July 15, 1956, in Janesville, Wis. Debi was the daughter of Stanley G. and Patricia A. (Williams) Sisson. She attended Monticello Schools and graduated from Orangeville High School. Debi was currently employed by ABC Supply of Beloit in the accounting department. Survivors are her parents, Stanley G. Sisson of Monticello, and Patricia S. Sisson of Evansville; four sisters, Mareen (Dan) Reeson of Blanchardville, Diane Sisson of Janesville, Mari (Steve) Brusveen of Belleville, and Linda Burdick of Janesville; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; and uncles and aunts. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2003, at ZENTNER-BEAL FUNERAL HOME, 29 Sixth Ave., New Glarus, (608) 527-2211. The Rev. Kathleen Burkheimer will officiate. Relatives and friends may call from noon until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Humane Society.

Stanzel, Robert F.

Thieding, James H.

LOGANVILLE - James H. Thieding, age 59, of Loganville, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 9, 2003, while fulfilling a lifelong dream. He was born on May 11, 1943, in Reedsburg, to Henry and Evangeline (Hamburg) Thieding. On Jan. 25, 1964, he was united in marriage with Diane Mary Thompson at St. John Lutheran Church in Reedsburg. Jim loved his family (especially the grandchildren), friends, hunting, traveling and the earthwork/ general contracting business that he and his wife, Diane, created. His father, Henry, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Diane; children, Jeffrey (Laurie) Thieding of Loganville, and Jodi (Michael) Whalen of Loganville; grandchildren, Crystal Whalen, Jason Whalen, Olivia Thieding and Jenna Thieding; mother, Evangeline Thieding of Loganville; father- and mother-in-law, Ralph and Evelyn Thompson of Reedsburg; brothers, Kenneth Thieding of Loganville, and Robert (Jane) Thieding of Hillpoint; sister, Susan (William) Doria of Monee, Ill.; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Douglas (Jane) Thompson of Madison, Danny (Sally) Thompson of New Castle, Ind., and Dale (Marcie) Thompson of Reedsburg; other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services for James H. Thieding will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2003, at ST. JOHN EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, Reedsburg, with Pastor Ronald Rasmussen officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Lutheran cemetery, Loganville. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2003, at FARBER FUNERAL HOME, Reedsburg, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. Memorials of remembrance may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Loganville restoration fund. Farber Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Thomas, Bessie Jean

"Sweet Pea" MADISON - Bessie Jean "Sweet Pea" Thomas, age 54, our dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, was called on to join our Father on Thursday, April 10, 2003, suddenly and unexpectedly. She was born on April 12, 1949, in Mississippi. Bessie will truly be missed! Family and friends are invited to attend Bessie's home going celebration on Saturday, April 19, 2003, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. MOUNT HOREB/ MADISON - Quentin G. Thompson, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at St. Marys Hospital, Madison. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at ST. ANDREW CATHOLIC CHURCH, 301 N. Main St., Verona. Webb, Elizabeth J. "Betty"

MADISON - Elizabeth J. "Betty" Webb, age 56, of Madison, died unexpectedly on Monday, April 14, 2003, at St. Marys Hospital. She was born on Nov. 3, 1946, in Madison, the daughter of Hiram and Theo (Denson) Vick. Betty married Carl Webb on July 18, 1965, in North Platte, Neb. She was employed as a certified nursing assistant at Sienna Crest and also worked at Hack's Sports Page. Betty is survived by her children, Ron Webb of Oregon, Jackie (John) Hopkins of Madison, and Randy Webb of Madison; her mother, Theo of Monona; and siblings, Clara Vick of Madison, Tom (Nancy) Vick of McFarland, Donna (John) Wrend of Monona, and Bob (Karen) Vick of Stoughton. She was looking forward to the birth of her first grandchild this fall. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, in 1993; her father, Hiram; and a brother, Richard Vick. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2003. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. MADISON - Quantrez Stephon Williams, infant son of Angelitta Williams, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2003. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2003, at 1 p.m. at FITCH LAWRENCE SANFILLIPPO CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 6021 University Ave., Madison. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery.

Willkomm, Bernard A.

GLEN HAVEN - Bernard A. Willkomm, age 81, of Glen Haven, died Monday, April 14, 2003, at the Lancaster Care Center after a short battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 20, 1921, in Cassville township, Wis., the son of Henry and Katie (Kirschbaum) Willkomm. On July 12, 1939, he married Janis Jamison in Waukon, Iowa. She preceded him in death March 22, 1998. Bernie served in the 45th Infantry Division of the United States Army during World War II. He owned Chevrolet dealerships in Cassville and Platteville. After World War II, he was employed by Standard Oil in Iowa until 1952. Bernie was employed by Wisconsin Barge Lines as a dispatcher before retiring. He served as mayor of Kimmswick, Mo., in the early 1980s. Bernie was a member and chaplain of the Abraham Hickok Wetmore American Legion Post No. 148 of Bloomington and the Donaldson Kelly Kirschbaum VFW Post No. 7080 in Cassville. Surviving are six children, Nancy (Jim) Nalepinski, Lancaster, Bruce (Carole) Willkomm, Brown Deer, Wayne Willkomm, Glen Haven, David (Olga) Willkomm, Gainesville, Fla., Jeffrey (J.P.) Willkomm, Minneapolis, Minn., and Shawn Willkomm, Glen Haven; eight grandchildren, Andrew and Julie Nalepinski, Wendy Bromley, Todd, Laura, David Jr. and Vanessa Willkomm, and Josh Grimes; three great-granddaughters, Claire Bromley, Grayson Funk and Caiden Willkomm; and a sister, Colleen Glennon, Minnetonka, Minn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janis; his parents; a sister, Luella Trierweiler; and two brothers, Francis and Lawrence Willkomm. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 19, 2003, at 10 a.m. at UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, Bloomington, with the Rev. Susan Brown officiating. Private family burial, with military honors, will be in Beetown cemetery, Beetown township. Visitation will be held Friday, April 18, 2003, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. at MARTIN PAGE FUNERAL HOME, Bloomington, and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Bernard A. Willkomm memorial fund has been established.

Archer, Victor F.

KENDALL - Victor F. Archer, age 88, of Kendall passed away quietly on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at Hess Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on Sept. 14, 1915, in Kendall to Roy and Agnes (Saxby) Archer and spent almost his entire life living and working in Kendall. He was raised by his grandparents George and Bertha Saxby whom he grew to love as parents. Victor took great care of them in their retirement years. He was well known by everyone in the village for more than 35 years as the village chief engineer, and serving as dance hall inspector for the Kendall Community Hall for hundreds of rock n' roll dances, polka fests, receptions, and parties. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, sharp wit, work ethic and willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. At Christmas time he found great joy in making decorations out of live pine bows that hung over Main Street and escorting Santa Claus to deliver gifts of candy and fruit to the elderly. He served in World War II with the U.S. Army and was an active member of the Kendall American Legion Post No. 309, and the Kendall Fire Department for many years. He was a great fan of baseball his whole life and watched or listened to games whenever possible, and enjoyed many trips to County Stadium in Milwaukee for Braves and Brewer Games. He had a large garden for years and spent many retirement hours cutting and chopping wood. He married Dorothy June Chitwood on Nov. 12, 1949, in Sparta, Wis. He is survived by four sons Dean (Deb) of Cross Plains, Dennis of Park Falls, Daryl (Teresa) of Elroy, and Scott (Tammie) of Sparta; two very special nephews whom he looked upon as the other boys in the family, Paul Monroe of Kendall, and Mike Monroe of Steelville, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Bethanie (Randy) Jensen, Carla, Joseph, Laura, Michael, Cody, Randi, and Jenna; two great-grandchildren, Bailey and Hannah; two brothers, Gaylord of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Earl of Columbus, Ga.; and three sisters, Virginia, Charlotte and Barbara all of the Minneapolis/ St. Paul area. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; a son, Daune; his parents; a sister, Evelyn; and a brother, LeRoy. A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, 11 a.m. at ST. JOHN EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, Kendall. Pastor Fred Fedke will officiate. Burial will be in the Glendale cemetery with military honors by the William J. Schriver American Legion Post No. 309. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. The Smith-Nelson Funeral Home, Kendall is assisting the family with the arrangements.
