Mann, Elsie Marie (Feller)

SAUK CITY - Elsie Marie (Feller) Mann, age 81, of Sauk City, passed away on Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at her home. She was born on April 4, 1922, in Ableman, Wis., the daughter of the late Ernest and Rosa (Kissling) Feller, who were originally from Almondingen, Switzerland. Elsie attended Happy Hill, Stones Pocket, and Otter Creek schools, graduated from Prairie du Sac High School in 1941, and then attended art school in Madison. She was united in marriage to Harry Mann on Oct. 26, 1947. They spent one year in Germany and France while Harry was in the Army. They visited seven different countries in Europe, and met many relatives while visiting in Switzerland. Elsie was employed at Badger Ordinance, Farmers Mutual Insurance, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Occupational Safety and Health Association, and retiring from the U.S. Department of Mining, Safety and Health in 1983. She was a member of First United Church of Christ in Sauk City for more than 60 years, where she was a Sunday school teacher, Deaconess of the Consistry, choir member and co-founder of "Members in Ministry." She enjoyed helping others, spending time with her nieces and nephews, and traveling with her husband of 56 years, Harry. She is survived by her husband, Harry of Sauk City; a sister, Helen Stewart of Sauk City; nieces and nephews, Sandy (Gary) Schlender of Prairie du Sac, Richard (Ginny) Diehl of Prairie du Sac, Debra (Jim Heiney) Laufenberg of Lodi, Curt (Nancy) Diehl of Sauk City, Greg (Sharon) Diehl of Sauk City, Marc Blaine of Juneau, Alaska, David (Sharon) Mann of Tucson, Ariz., Vicki (Richard) Huber of Mellen, Wis., Patricia (Mike) Regan of San Diego, Calif., Harry (Sherry) Blaine of Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Linda (Dale) Kokko of Highbridge, Wis.; brother-in-law, Archie (Eve) Mann of Yucaipa, Calif.; sister-in-law, Judy Mann of Lake Nebagamon, Wis.; very good friend, Lucille Coenen of Sauk City; and numerous great- and great-great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edward; a sister, Margaret Diehl; brothers-in-law, Clinton Stewart, Albert "Bud" Diehl, William Mann, and Pat Blaine; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Blaine. A Funeral service will be held at FIRST UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, Sauk City, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, with Pastor Robert Rieke and Pastor Denise Cole officiating. McGuigan, Sally A.

Meier, Regina A.

WAUNAKEE - Regina A. Meier, age 95, passed away on Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at the Waunakee Manor. She was born on Nov. 8, 1908, in the Town of Berry, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Noltner) Meier. Regina was employed as a housekeeper for the Fr. C. N. Stoffel for more than 40 years, retiring in 1983. Regina enjoyed going to watch the Madison Blues Baseball games and going to the State Fair. She was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in Martinsville. Regina is survived by a sister-in-law, Florence Hruby Meier of Roxbury; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Louie and James Meier; and four sisters, Elizabeth Speth, Gertrude Buechner, Sr. Elisa Meier and Sr. Tarasia Meier. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARTIN'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5959 St. Martin Circle, Martinsville at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mundt, Harold H.

SUN PRAIRIE/ MARSHALL - Harold H. Mundt, age 82, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, in a Sun Prairie nursing home. Harold was born on July 6, 1921, in Marshall, the son of Herman and Sarah (Hein) Mundt. He farmed until 1971, and then sold insurance for Aid Association for Lutherans, Farm Bureau, and Medina Mutual. Harold was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Sun Prairie. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Doris; four sons, Richard (Sharon), Sun Prairie, Robert (Donna), Sun Prairie, Charles (Judy), Naperville, Ill., and William (Diane), Fremont; a daughter, Kathleen (Robert) Serrahn, Sun Prairie; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Marvin (Helen), Sun Prairie; and two sisters, Carolyn Wilcox and Doris Tennant, both of Sun Prairie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Sarah Mundt. A memorial service will be held at BETHLEHEM LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1700 Broadway Drive, Sun Prairie, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, with the Rev. Dr. James A. Pingel officiating. Burial will be at a later date. A visitation will be held on Monday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. The family would like to thank the Willows Nursing Home, Dr. Hartung, and the pastors at Bethlehem for the care that they have given Harold these past three years. Reed, Marguerite

MADISON/ ESCONDIDO, CALIF. - Marguerite Reed, age 96, died on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, at the Oak Hill Residential Care in Escondido, Calif. She was born on Sept. 26, 1907, in Benton, Wis., the daughter of Thomas and Bridget (Sheridan) Welsh, who were both children of Irish immigrants. Marguerite graduated from Benton High School. She was united in marriage to Donald J. Reed on June 22, 1931, in Benton. He preceded her in death. She was a member of St. Dennis Catholic Church for many years. In October 2002, Marguerite went to live with her son and daughter-in-law at their home in Escondido, Calif., and then moved into an assisted living facility. She is survived by her son, Robert (Bernadette) Reed of Escondido, Calif.; and grandchildren, Richard Reed, Tracy Reed, Marty Corcoran and Rita Boerger. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Sr.; a son, Donald Jr.; daughters, Cathy Reed and Jean Corcoran; and six brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at 11 a.m. at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, with Father Kent Schmitt presiding. Schwenn, Donald D. "Ducky"

OREGON - Donald D. "Ducky" Schwenn, age 75, died on Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at his home. He was born on July 27, 1928, the son of Calvin and Lois Schwenn. Donald served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He married his wife, Marilyn, on Nov. 26, 1949. Donald was a self employed truck driver for 50 years and a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion Posts. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Oregon; two children, Barbara of Oregon, and Scott (Cameron) of Madison; a brother, Calvin (Diane) of California; five sisters, Janis (Ed) Lawry of Madison, Lois (Lloyd) Linnerud of Little Falls, Minn., Jeanne (Tom) Abrams of Oregon, Kay (Ken) Larson of Madison, and Marilyn Baxter of California; many nieces and nephews; and his companion, Taffy. Donald was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Robert. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at the GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 431 Soden Drive. Steckler, John "Jack"

MADISON - John "Jack" Steckler, age 69, died on Monday, Jan. 26, 2004. He was born on June 3, 1934, to John and Janet Steckler in Madison. He grew up in Madison, and loved playing sports. In his teenage years he enjoyed roller skating at the roller rink, which is where he met his wife, Margaret. They enjoyed waltzing together on skates. They were married on Nov. 28, 1953, and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He was so glad to have made it to that day. They had three children together, John, Bill and Sandy, whom he loved very much. Throughout his battle with cancer his family was by his side, loving and caring for him. He was a very strong man going through these times. He never really complained or asked, "why me", he just dealt with it everyday. He was a wonderful caring dad. His children grew up watching him play fast pitch softball, where he was an excellent pitcher and first baseman. He also loved bowling, camping, fishing and being with his family. He was very lucky to have played softball and bowled on teams with his sons for a few years. His family enjoyed many summer weekends camping with him, which they will always cherish. He loved watching professional sports on T.V., and he really loved the Packers. He is survived by his children, John, Bill and Sandy; eight grandchildren, Jessica, T.J., Tyler, Kristina, Kyle, Preston, Joey and Nicholas, whom he loved and adored very much, and who all held a special place in his heart; two sisters, Donna (Ben) Scalissi and JoAnn (Don) Wilson, who both want to say he was the best brother a person could have; and his two dogs, Auggie and Peaches. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is a very special man and will always hold a special place in each of our hearts. We all love you DAD!

Stegall, Caren LeeAnn (Hayes)

HOUSTON, TEXAS/ MADISON - Caren LeeAnn (Hayes) Stegall, age 57, died peacefully with the love of her family on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004. Caren was born in Madison on Sept. 9, 1946, and has resided in the Houston area for the past 20 years. During her years, she was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be missed, but we anticipate meeting her again with our Lord Jesus Christ. She is survived by her husband, Bennie B. Stegall; her children, Michelle (Kenneth) Derrick, Michael (Jakelyn) Stegall and Danielle (Luke) Rao; her grandchildren, Chase, Lane, Drew and Jenna; her brother, Rick (Aileen) Hayes; and her niece, Jennifer. A private service was held in Texas.

Wiese, Don C.

OREGON - Don C. Wiese, age 61, of Oregon, died on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at home, surrounded by his family. He was born on Nov. 21, 1942, in Fond du Lac, to Clyde and Irene Wiese. Don served in the U.S. Army. He married Lois on July 14, 1979. Don retired as an officer with the Miami Police Department and later retired from the V.A. Hospital. He was a member of the Stoughton American Legion Post No. 59. Don is survived by his wife, Lois; two sons, Ted and Kurt; three grandchildren; and a brother, Dan. Wood, Thomas Dean

MADISON - Thomas Dean Wood, age 48, died on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004. He was born on Jan. 18, 1956. Tom attended Frank Allis Elementary School and graduated from LaFollette High School in 1974, where he played football and was the heavy weight wrestler on the varsity team. He was active with the Madison Drum and Bugle Corp, playing the French horn in the early 1970's. Tom attended semi truck driving school in Madison and while living in Florida, worked in sales and delivery. He worked and lived in the Madison area most of his life. He was a professional painter for 25 years and a member of Painters Union Local No. 802. He was known as a very hard worker and was a foreman on various projects. Tom enjoyed working on scale model cars, from which his family nick named him "model man." Tommy had a renewed zest for life. He looked forward to his Harley Davidson ride, and spending time turkey hunting with his brother. Tom had accepted Jesus Christ as his savior and resides in Heaven today whole and with out pain, because of his belief. He is survived by his mother, Harriet F. Wood of DeForest; brothers and sisters, Patricia (Steven) Goff of Newell, S.D., Janice (Randal) Dodge of Monclova, Ohio, William (Cathy) Wood of New Port Richey, Fla., and David (Marjorie) Wood of Madison; fiancee, Barbara Martin of Madison; nine nieces and nephews; and three grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Delbert H. Wood; grandparents; five uncles; and an aunt. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 16, 2004. Burial in Forest Hill cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. today, Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004. Tom's family wishes to thank the staff of both St. Marys and University hospitals, for the valiant effort to save Tom's life and for the compassion and tender care given to Tom. Wyckoff, Mary Mortell

ROCKVILLE, MD. - Mary Mortell Wyckoff, age 90, of Rockville, Md., died on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004. She was born on May, 1913, in Oshkosh. Mary earned a B.S. in biochemistry from UW-Madison. She served in World War II at British-American Hospital in London, United Kingdom. She was a biochemist on the team that developed protein chromatography in the 1950s at NIH, Bethesda, Md. Mary was a life-long scholar, as passionate about the humanities as she was about science fiction and the Baltimore Orioles. Mary is survived by a sister, Betty Buker, Lake Forest, Ill.; two brothers, Jack Mortell, Ann Arbor, Mich., and Ned Mortell, Charlottesville, Va.; three children, Anne-Megan McCormick, East Troy, Wis., Bill Wyckoff, Germantown, Md., and Kate Werner-Jensen, Madison; and a grandson, Paul McCormick, Pickett, Wis. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. William P. Mortell, Madison; and two sisters, Catherine Mortell, Chicago, Ill., and Patricia Mortell Ryan, Chevy Chase, Md. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the MADISON FRIENDS MEETING HOUSE, 1704 Roberts Court, Madison.

Acker, Joseph "Joe"

WAUNAKEE - Joseph "Joe" Acker, age 85, of Waunakee, died on Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at his home. He was born in Ashton, on Sept. 13, 1918, to John and Kathryn (Ziegler) Acker. He married the former Christine Kohlman on June 1, 1943, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 13, 2000. He farmed all of his life in the Ashton area. He loved farming and collected antique toy tractors. He was also well known for driving his buggy in the local parades. Joe was a lifelong member of the St. Peters Catholic Church in Ashton. Survivors include his four daughters, Marilyn (Joe) Ziegler of Arlington, Rosemary (Jim) Endres of Waunakee, Alice (Darrell) Hellenbrand of Middleton, and Doris (Tom) Esser of Middleton; a son, John of Waunakee; 12 treasured and loving grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Ervin (Agnes) Acker; two sisters, Armella Endres and Angeline (Edwin) Kreamer; and his three beloved dogs, Spot, Taffy and Buffy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine; and two brothers, Herb and LaVerne. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at ST. PETERS CATHOLIC CHURCH in Ashton. Ackerman, Morris R.

MADISON - Morris R. Ackerman, age 42, succumbed to alcohol related cirrhosis, on Tuesday, April 13, 2004. He was born on Jan. 16, 1962, to Lenore "Patsy" Adkins and Morris Ackerman to Madison. He attended Malcolm Shabazz High School and Madison Area Technical College. Morris enjoyed golf, fishing and riding his Harley Davidson. He loved the power of words and strove to be an "artist of words." He was self-employed for most of his adult life. He met many people through the years whom he admired. To all who knew Morris well, or for just a short time, he truly cared about you and learned from you. Thank you. He is survived by his mom, Patsy Adkins of McFarland; dad, Morris M. Ackerman of Poynette; brothers, Tony (Cynthia) Adkins of Madison, Joe Adkins of Stoughton, and Dion M. Burgard of Poynette; sisters, Jackie Manght of Milwaukee, Vicki Peterson of Stoughton, and Linda Miller of Madison; and beloved friends, Louise Olbrantz of Middleton, and Marty Shoemaker of Lincoln, Neb. Albers, Marcella E.

BARABOO - Marcella E. Albers, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at the Maplewood Nursing Home in Sauk Prairie. Marcella was born on Sept. 16, 1920, in the town of Honey Creek, the daughter of Edward and Alida (Widder) Albers. Marcella graduated from North Freedom High School and continued her education receiving an education degree from UW-Platteville. Her 41 years of teaching included the school districts of Honey Creek Ridge, Maple Hill and Friendship, Albany Public School system and Portage Public School system before retiring from teaching in 1982. Marcella enjoyed flower gardening and numerous crafts, including a variety of hand-stitched quilts. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Baraboo. Survivors include a brother, Norbert Albers of Baraboo; two nieces, Renee (David) Albers Rosenthal of Stevens Point, and Rita (Brad) Albers Ten Pas of Sheboygan Falls; a nephew, Kevin (Deborah) Albers of Rockford, Ill.; and grandnephews and grandnieces, William, Sarah and Abigail Rosenthal, Zachary Ten Pas, and Nicholas, Andrew and Joshua Albers. She was preceded in death by a sister in-law, Evelyn Albers; and her parents. Funeral services will be held at ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 624 East St., Baraboo, on Friday, April 16, 2004 at 11 a.m., with Pastor Myron Schwanke officiating. Graveside burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery in North Freedom at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church. The Rago Funeral Home, Baraboo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
