Nelson, Ralph A.

MADISON - Ralph A. Nelson, age 88, passed peacefully from this life and was welcomed home to the Lord on Monday, April 12, 2004, at St. Marys Hospital. He was born in Stanford Township on Jan. 3, 1916, the son of Alfred and Anna (Erlandson) Nelson. He graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1934. He moved to Madison in 1936 and was employed by the U.S.D.A. He was united in marriage to Mae Thurow on Sept. 28, 1940. Ralph went on to work for the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture. In 1960 he joined the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company and enjoyed his career as a life underwriter for more than 40 years. Ralph received his chartered life underwriter designation in 1972. He was a member of the Madison Association of Life Underwriters and past board member. In 1997 he was awarded their Distinguished Service Award. He was a life member of the Million Dollar Roundtable and a member of the Madison Chapter of Financial Service Professionals. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. Ralph loved people. At 87 he still dressed in his suit, white shirt and tie and went into his office. He will be remembered by his colleagues and clients for his dedication to service and his honesty, integrity and strong work ethic. He loved to garden and cook. Above all he loved his family. He readily welcomed family, friends and at times strangers into his home to enjoy food, fun and laughter. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his unconditional love, his warm hugs, his sparkling blue eyes, determination and divine faith. Ralph is survived by his cherished and devoted wife of 63 years, Mae; daughters, Shirley (G. Frederick) Davie of Madison, and Nancy (Jim Blau) Nelson of Stillwater, Minn.; two grandchildren, G. Jacob and Anna Davie; brother, Norman (Vesta) Nelson; sister-in-law, Alice Nelson; and many loving nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ivar (Alice) Nelson and Sigfrid Nelson; and two sisters, Ida (Gus) Hanson and Esther (Ernest) Nelson. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2004, at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, with the Rev. William R. White officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 1:15 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2004, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. Memorials may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church Media Ministry. Paulson, Betty Jane

LAS VEGAS, NEV. - Betty Jane Paulson, age 76, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2004, in Las Vegas, Nev. Betty was born and raised in Boone, Iowa. She and her husband, Quentin Paulson, moved to Madison in 1956 to raise their three children. Betty moved to Las Vegas in 1979. Betty was an exceptional and well-loved mother and grandmother, an internationally honored doll artist, and would have celebrated 28 years of sobriety in Alcoholics Anonymous on April 7 this year. She is survived by her two daughters, Heidi (Ron) DeWoskin of Madison, and Lisa (Dan) Kopina of Buttes des Mort; and five grandchildren, Katie (Johnny) Buser, Anastasia DeWoskin, Jessica Kopina, Genna DeWoskin and Brett Kopina. She was preceded in death by her husband, Quentin; and her son, John. A memorial service celebrating her extraordinary life was performed on Saturday, April 10, 2004, in Las Vegas. Many of her relatives and friends shared in this final tribute to her unrelenting philosophy: Don't worry, be happy. Let go and let God.

Thompson, Eugene H.

DARLINGTON - Eugene H. Thompson, age 73, of Darlington, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at Wm. S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital, Madison. He was born on Oct. 25, 1930, in Radcliff, Iowa, the son of Edward and Fern (Lunning) Thompson. Gene graduated from Darlington High School in 1949. He was united in marriage to Mickey L. Johnson on April 25, 1953, at Grace Lutheran Church in Darlington. Gene lived in Darlington most of his life. He worked as a meat cutter at the Kroger Store in Darlington for many years and later served as Lafayette County clerk for several years before retiring. Gene also enjoyed working at his daughter's tanning salon, Copper Glow in Darlington. Gene was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Darlington, the Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel American Legion Post No. 214 of Darlington and the D.A.V. Post No. 67 of Mineral Point. He was a past member of the Darlington Saddle Club. Gene served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from March 8, 1951, until December 8, 1952. He loved spending time with his family. Gene also enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, taking care of his horses and his favorite pet, "Dog." Survivors include his wife, Mickey at home; a son, Lane (Theresa) Thompson of Darlington; a daughter, Lori (Joe) Leahy, Jr. of Darlington; five grandchildren, Tara, Eddie and Mitchell Thompson, and Shawn and Brad Leahy; and a brother, Leon (Ula) Thompson of Onalaska. Gene was preceded in death by his father, on June 16, 1985; and his mother, on June 14, 2002. Funeral services will be held on at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2004, at the GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH, Darlington, with the Rev. Todd Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove cemetery, Darlington. Military graveside rites will be performed by the Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel American Legion Post No. 214. A visitation will be held on Friday, April 16, 2004, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the ERICKSON FUNERAL HOME, Darlington. A memorial fund has been established in Gene's name.

Wuilleumier, Lois Ellen

MADISON - Lois Ellen Wuilleumier, age 93, of Madison, died on Monday, April 12, 2004, at 8 p.m., at her home. She was born on June 13, 1910, in Mondovi, to Alvah Trusler and Luella Leutscher. Lois graduated from Madison general Hospital School of Nursing on Jan. 21, 1931, as a registered nurse. On Oct. 27, 1936, Lois was married to Louis R. Wuilleumier. Lois and her husband, Louie, operated Four Lakes Aviation Corp. for more than 50 years, first at the Royal Airpark where South Towne Mall now stands for the first 20 years and then at the Dane County Regional Airport for another 30 years. In the 1960s, their two sons, Robert and Rick, joined them in the family business. Lois' loving husband, Louie, was inducted into the Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame at Air Venture in Oshkosh shortly before his death in 1995. Lois was baptized on Nov. 14, 1979, as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in Madison. Lois is survived by her son, Robert J. Wuilleumier of Madison; a brother, Macken (Joyce) Trusler of Mondovi; five nieces; two nephews; and a sister-in-law, Geneva Trusler of Tampa, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis; a son, Richard O. Wuilleumier; two brothers, Jack Trusler of Tampa, Fla., and Dickson Trusler of Great Falls, Mont.; and a sister, Gretchen Hall of Eau Claire. A memorial service will be held this Saturday, April 17, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. at the KINGDOM HALL OF JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES, 5475 Portage Road, Madison. Mr. George Miles will officiate. MADISON - Shirley Buttolph, age 69, of Madison, died on Thursday, June 3, 2004, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center. A funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2004, at ST. BERNARD'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2015 Parmenter St., Middleton. Cole, Hazel C.

WATERLOO - Hazel C. Cole, age 94, of Waterloo, died on Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Columbus Community Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on July 27, 1909, in the town of York, Dane County, the daughter of Charles and Martha (Loeffler) Weber. Hazel Weber married Lawrence Cole on June 16, 1928, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waterloo. She and her husband farmed in the town of York for many years. She was a 1927 graduate of Waterloo High School. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Waterloo, and a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary Society and Dorcas Society of the church. She helped organize the Waterloo Meals on Wheels program. She was past officer and member of Waterloo Senior Citizens. She loved to travel and spend time with family and friends. She is survived by two daughters, Louise Lagier of Madison, and Shirley Mork of Madison; a son, Larry (Linda) Cole of Waterloo; eight grandchildren, Mark (Caressa) Lagier, Eric (Merrie) Lagier, Anne (Kenyon) Hunt, Karen (John) Holt, Judith (Donald) Kline, Lynne Seeger, Andrew (Heather) Cole and Laura Cole; 24 great-grandchildren; and is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, on Jan. 12, 1985; brother, Marvin Weber; sister, Lucille Zimbric; and grandson, John Freidel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 7, 2004, at ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, Waterloo. The Rev. William Runke will officiate with burial in Oak Hill cemetery, Waterloo. Friends may call at ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Memorials to St. John's Lutheran Church or Waterloo E.M.S. are appreciated. Daley, Autumn Lin

TEXAS/ MADISON - Autumn Lin Daley, age 10, passed away at University Hospital on Wednesday, June 2, 2004. She was an artistic and funny child, whose little heart showed so much love to everyone. Autumn enjoyed karate, swimming, singing and most of all, spending time with her family, friends and her four legged buddies. Autumn is survived by her mother, Kim Daley; her twin sister, Juliet Daley; her grandparents, Ray and Linda Dunse; an uncle, Clinton Schultz; and her great-grandparents, Mildred Schultz and Elder Siemers. Kammer, Rosemarie B.

FORT ATKINSON - Rosemarie B. Kammer, age 78, of Fort Atkinson, died on Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at the Countryside Nursing Home, in Jefferson. Rosemarie was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Feb. 17, 1926, the daughter of Cyril and Catherine (Metzger) Forney. She graduated from South Hills High School in Pittsburgh in 1944. Rosemarie worked in the office at Jones Dairy Farm in Fort Atkinson for 19 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Fort Atkinson where she was active with its Altar Guild and annual Cookie Cupboard. She also was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and was a volunteer at Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital. Surviving are a son, Daniel Kammer, Madison; son, Jonathan (Gwen) Kammer, Fort Atkinson; grandchildren, Ashley and Jameson Kammer, Fort Atkinson; and two sisters, Edith Forney and Gertrude Kearns. She was preceded in death by her parents; seven siblings; and her former husband, Roger Kammer. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at 7 p.m. at the ST. PETER'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH, Fort Atkinson, with Father Phillip Boeve officiating. Friends may call after 4 p.m. until the time of services on Tuesday at the church. Those wishing to express their sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the American Diabetes Association.

SUN PRAIRIE - Mavis E. Langdon, age 76, died on Monday, May 31, 2004. She was born on March 28, 1928, in Paris, Tenn., to Curt and Cecil (McClain) Paschall. Mavis married T.B. Needham on Aug. 18, 1945. She then married Arthur Langdon in August 1979. Mavis was a nurse aide at Karmenta Nursing Home for 20 years. She enjoyed gardening. Mavis is survived by four children, Carolyn (Greg) Needham-Wagner of Sun Prairie, Kenny Needham of Poynette, Larry Needham of Sun Prairie, and Barb (Denny) Stapleton of Brooklyn; six grandchildren, Melanie (Ron) Wagner Kruckerberg, Jennifer Wagner, Mark Olsen, Suzanne Needham, Nicole Rosa-Needham and Gregor Swenson; a great-granddaughter, Emily Wagner; a nephew, Kurt Paschall; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, in 1994; her parents; and a brother, Joel Paschall. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2004. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. Loew, Marvin G.

MADISON - Marvin George Loew passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 2, 2004. Marv was born on Nov. 1, 1918, the only child of Norma (Bergmann) and Andrew Loew, and grew up in the Merrill Park area of Milwaukee. He married Alice DeNomie in 1946 and inherited her six brothers and sisters who became his dearest lifelong friends. Marv and Alice had two children, Michael (Beth Schultz) and Patty (David Braga); and three grandchildren, Jim Loew and Brooks and Dominic Braga. Marv served in the United States Navy and saw active duty during World War II aboard the U.S.S. St. Mihiel, Gary, and Cross. He enjoyed visiting V.F.W. and American Legion posts during his frequent travels with Alice. He especially enjoyed the Neville-Dunn Post with his best friend, Harry Passage, and many of his golf buddies. Marv's happiest years were operating the Fieldhouse, a sports pub in Milwaukee, where he enjoyed serving thousands of softball players. In 2003 Marv and Alice moved to Madison. An enthusiastic sports fan, Marv loved following the Green Bay Packers and attending his grandsons' ball games and hockey matches. "Uncle Marbles, " as he was known, leaves a large, loving extended family that will miss his warm personality and unique ability to "mauwer" at sheepshead. A memorial Mass will be held in the MERITER CHAPEL AUDITORIUM, 334 Doty St., Madison, at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 4, 2004, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association of South Central Wisconsin.

Moore, Dolores "Sam"

JEFFERSON - Dolores "Sam" Moore, age 67, of Jefferson, passed away on Wednesday June 2, 2004, at Meriter Hospital in Madison, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on April 4, 1937, in Milwaukee, the daughter of the late Walter and Theresa (Oswald) Groth. She married James R. Moore on July 1, 1958, at Waukegan Ill.; he preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 1997. "Sam" was employed at the Wisconsin State Journal as a regional manager until her retirement in 1997. She also was a carrier for the Daily Jefferson Union for many years. She was a homemaker and dedicated Green Bay Packers and Matt Kenseth fan. She was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church Jefferson, where she also served as the church's librarian. She is survived by three daughters, Jodi Meixner of Fox Lake, Vicki (Bobby) Lemke of Helenville, and Terri (David) Derepkowski of Horicon; two sons, James "Buddy" Jr. (Kathy) Moore of Watertown, and Shad "Peanut" (Natalie) Moore of Johnson Creek; six grandchildren, Sammi and Mandi Lemke, Matthew Moore, Missy Meixner, Jessie Moore and Ryan "Chunky Monkey" Moore; and two special friends, Fran Strauss and Phyllis Krause. She was further preceded in death by a daughter, Heidi; and a brother, Richard. Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday June 4, 2004, at ST. MARK'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH in Jefferson, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Comstock officiating. Private family burial will be in the Wisconsin Memorial Park on Saturday. Friends may call on Friday at the church from 3 p.m. until the time of services. Schneider-Michaelis Funeral Home, Jefferson, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Pfaff, Oscar Raymond

MAUSTON - Oscar Raymond Pfaff, age 86, died on Wednesday, June 2, 2004. Oscar was born on Dec. 23, 1917, to Martha (Boehm) Pfaff and Charles Pfaff in the township of Summit. He grew up on the family farm and after he was married , worked at the Mauston Creamery, where he was a butter and cheese maker for more than 20 years. He then worked for Don Wildes Construction for many years until retirement. Oscar served in the Army during World War II in the 321st Signal Company Wing from Nov. 9, 1942, until Dec. 3, 1945. He was a volunteer of the Mauston Fire Department for more than 30 years, which he greatly enjoyed. He married Veryl Jurkowski in September 1941, in Mauston, where they made their home. Six children were born to their union, Ruth (Darrell) Franke, David (Karen) Pfaff, Patricia (Gary) Hudson, James (Diane) Pfaff, Kathleen (Richard) Grunewald and Jean (Tim) Gavin. Oscar loved his family and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with them. His hobby was woodworking and he spent many hours making gifts for everyone to enjoy. He is survived by his wife, Veryl; six children; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bernard (Beatrice) Pfaff; two sisters, Florence Atkinson and Betty (Wilbur) Voss; a sister-in-law, Bertha Pfaff; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Fred, Henry and Howard; and a sister, Helen Demaske. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2004, at ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC CHURCH, Mauston. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will be is St. Patrick cemetery with veteran's honors. The family would especially like to thank the Columbus Nursing and Rehab Center for their compassionate care. Memorials can be given to Columbus Nursing and Rehab Center or Alzheimer's research.
