Quill, The Rev. Grant

REEDSBURG - The Rev. Grant Quill, age 82, of Reedsburg, died on Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at the University Hospital in Madison. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Quill of Reedsburg; children, Linka (Gregory) Holey of Minneapolis, Minn.; the Rev. Timothy (Annette) Quill of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Grant (Barbara) Quill of Pewaukee; grandchildren, Erika, Garrick, Sharon and Kathryn; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends. Funeral services for the Rev. Grant Quill will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 7, 2004, at ST. PETER'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH in Reedsburg, with the Rev. Kevin J. Kohnke officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran cemetery, Reedsburg. Friends may call on Sunday, June 6, 2004, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the FARBER FUNERAL HOME in Reedsburg, and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Robinson, Edgar W. "Ed"

PORTAGE - Edgar W. "Ed" Robinson, age 79, of Portage, died on Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at University Hospital in Madison with his beloved family at his side. He fought a courageous battle with cancer and a series of complications following surgery this past March. Ed was born on Sept. 30, 1924, in Whitehall, Wis., the son of the late Telo and Gertrude (Langner) Robinson. Growing up on the family farm, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942, serving his country proudly during World War II in the European Theater as a member of the 25th Field Artillery Battalion Unit. Ed then returned home and began working at a pressure cooker company in Eau Claire. At this time he met Merna J. Austin, whom he became the loving husband to for 56 years. They married on July 13, 1948, in Moorhead, Minn. The couple welcomed two daughters into the world, Rita Faye and Nadine Pamela, raising them in Lodi. Ed worked in Madison for almost 30 years at Gisholt's Foundry, which later became Gidding and Lewis Foundry. Ed and Merna resided several years later in Wyocena Township, before finally settling in Portage. Ed continued living and maintaining what he prided as a "very active lifestyle." He was the primary caretaker on a Portage estate for 12 years and finally worked in the sporting goods department of Portage's Super Wal-Mart for four years. Ed enjoyed the company and companionship of co-workers and customers up until the week of his initial surgery in March 2004. Ed was a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 1707, Portage, vice president of Steel Workers Union No. 1404 and former Wyocena Village Board trustee, holding numerous offices for more than 10 years. Highlights of Ed's life were his family - wife, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an active member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pardeeville. He enjoyed family special occasions, army reunions and grandchildren school events, including several years of Portage Warrior basketball games. He was an avid sports fan, bowler and outdoorsman, loved to travel, enjoyed nature and was a remarkable gardener. Ed enjoyed morning coffee breaks at McDonald's with friends over the years. Ed was a man who will be remembered as much for his enjoyable personality, quick wit and warm heart. He is survived by his loving wife, Merna; daughter, Nadine (Thomas) Lynch, Portage; grandchildren, Ami (Fraser) Paton, Waconia, and Todd (fiancee Jennifer Crawford) Lynch, Chicago; great-grandson, Brett Paton; and a great-grandchild due on Friday, June 4, 2004. He is also survived by a sister, Margaret (Donald) Bewick, Waunakee; sisters-in-law, Rosella (Willie) Schoff, Milton, and Mary Zindorf, Fond du Lac; nephew Michael Williams, Pardeeville; and other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rita; brother, William; and sisters, Luella Hanson and Emma Williams. Funeral services for Edgar Robinson will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2004, at 11 a.m. at ST. JOHN'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH in Pardeeville. Pastor Edward Lindemann will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pardeeville cemetery with full military rites. Friends and relatives may call at the SMITH FUNERAL HOME in Pardeeville on Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. where a family remembrance service will be given at 6 p.m. by the grandchildren. Friends and relatives may also call on Saturday at the church one hour prior to service.

Simon, Donald J.

SUN PRAIRIE - Donald J. Simon, age 41, of Sun Prairie, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 2, 2004. Funeral arrangements are pending. A full obituary will appear at a later date.

Toney, Leuretta P. "Rita"

SEXTONVILLE/ RICHLAND CENTER - Leuretta P. "Rita" Toney, age 87, of Richland Center died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Pine Valley Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on Aug. 18, 1916, in Monticello, Wis., and raised in Coffeen, Ill., the daughter of Lemuel and Daisy (Barker) Weir. Rita was married to Raymond E. Nelson of Blue River in 1937. Together they had seven children. She was then united in marriage to Gale Toney of Richland Center on Feb. 14, 1964. Rita grew up in Blue River where she devoted her life to caring for and raising her family. In later years Rita worked at the Block System Dry Cleaners of Madison, then at Richland Foundry of Richland Center where she was a spray painter. Later she worked at Grabers in Middleton and then Richland Schools Community Center. She enjoyed embroidering, quilting, crochet work, bead work, and general sewing. She enjoyed reading and working on her computer. Survivors include six children, Darrald (Vicky) Nelson of Madison, Shirley (Lyle) Sword of Ashton, Ill., Myron Nelson of Mascoutah, Ill., LeRoy (special friend Sheila Neeman) Nelson of Evansville, LaVonne (David) Porter of Rolling Meadows, Ill., and Kenneth (special friend Cindy Brown) Nelson of Madison; 27 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. Rita was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gale Toney; a son, Roland Oscar Nelson; a granddaughter, Jeneen Troxel; three brothers and four sisters. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2004, at 1 p.m. at the PRATT MEMORIAL CHAPEL, Richland Center. Pastor Greg Marsh will officiate with burial in the Sextonville cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the services. The family suggests memorials be directed to Pine Valley Healthcare in memory of Rita. The family wishes to thank the management and staff of Pine Valley Healthcare for their concern and loving care of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandma.

Volk, Dennis

TOLEDO, OHIO - Dennis Volk, age 48, passed away at Hospice in Toledo, Ohio, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He retired from Jeep and his hobbies included woodworking, mechanics, electronics and music, especially the blues. His wife, Teri; son, Tony of Oregon; along with his mother, Cora Volk; his sister, Deb Corning; and her family of Madison survive him. His father, Larry Volk, predeceased Dennis in 1995. He will be truly missed by his family and friends. The visitation will be held in Oregon, Ohio, at EGGELSTON-MEINERT & PAYLEY FUNERAL HOME from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2004. The funeral Mass will be held at ST. IGNATIUS at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2004.

Zyduck, Mary Michaelin

MAYO, FLA./ SUN PRAIRIE - Mary Michaelin Zyduck, a homemaker, age 85, died on Wednesday, June 2, 2004, in Gainesville, Fla. Mrs. Zyduck was born in Oconto, and was the daughter of the late Antone and Francis Borczyk. Coming from Sun Prairie, she had lived in Mayo, Fla., for the past two and a half years. She was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church of Live Oak, Fla. She enjoyed rose maling (painting). She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Isadore A. Zyduck of Mayo; a son, John (Mary Lou) Theodore Zyduck of Mayo; a daughter, Kathleen Justinger of Madison; two sisters, Ann Berger and Agnes Heilsburg, both of Grafton; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 241 John Knox Road, Suite 100, Tallahassee, FL 32303. Joe P. Braun, Verlyn E.

REEDSBURG - Verlyn E. Braun, age 84, of Reedsburg, died on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at the Reedsburg Area Medical Center. He was born on May 16, 1920, in Sauk County, the son of Edwin and Anna (Schlieckau) Braun. On Aug. 27, 1940, he was married to the former Violet C. Zimmerman, They farmed together in the Loganville area for 15 years. Verlyn also hauled milk, worked for the Reedsburg Equity Co-op and lastly was a co-owner of Braun and Muchow Heating and Air Conditioning until his retirement. He was an alderman for the city of Reedsburg for six years, and a member of the airport commission for many years. He enjoyed motorcycles and flying his own plane. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Survivors include two children, Dennis Braun, and his special friend, Beverly Hoege, of Reedsburg, and Debbie Moede of Reedsburg; four grandchildren, Lindy, Cory and Troy Muchow, and Krista Braun; a great-granddaughter, Rachel Lynn; a brother, Harlyn "Buddy" (Bonnie) Braun of Merrimac; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Violet, on May 1, 1999; his daughter-in-law, Sharon Braun; and two sisters, Arlene Clapper and Rosalyn Happle. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at ST. PETER'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, Reedsburg, with the Rev. Kevin Kohnke officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Lutheran cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at the HOOF FUNERAL HOME, Reedsburg.

Brown, John F.

RHINELANDER - Dr. John F. Brown, age 79, died on Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at his home. He was born on March 28, 1925, in Mineral Point. He was a graduate of the UW-Madison Medical School, and was a practicing physician in Rhinelander for 35 years. He is survived by his wife, Dori; children, William Brown, Richard (Lisa) Brown and Rebecca (Terry) Young; a brother, James (Shirley) Brown; nine grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, 135 E. Larch St., Rhinelander, The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, at the church. MADISON - Bernice Carter, age 79, passed away on Monday, Aug. 2, 2004. Bernice was a precious angel with Godly wisdom, character and style, she was loved and will be missed by all. Dohm, Ronald T.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. - Ronald T. Dohm, age 51, died on Thursday, July 22, 2004, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was the father of Caroline (Jason) Potratz; dear son of Annette (Zeier) and the late Theodore F. Dohm; brother of Steven (Karen), Debbie (Michael) Kossow and Theodore K. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Hanson, Roy Kenneth

FORT PIERCE, FLA./ RACINE/ BELOIT/ WISCONSIN DELLS - Roy Kenneth Hanson, age 87, of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Wisconsin Dells, formerly of Racine and Beloit, died on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at the VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach, Fla. Roy was born on May 10, 1917, to James and Elsie (LePoidevin) Hanson, in Racine. He graduated from UW-Madison and was proud of his affiliation with the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. After graduating from UW-Madison, Roy enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941. He attained the rank of captain and served in the European front until the end of the war. Roy was past president of D.B. Eisendrath Tanning Company, Racine, and vice-president of purchasing for Freeman Shoe Company, Beloit. Roy traveled world wide promoting the tanning and leather industries. He loved to talk about his travels and had great stories to tell. Roy had a life long passion for the game of golf and was able to shoot his age into his 80s. Since retirement, Roy with his best friend and partner of 64 years, Ann, spent winters on the intra-coastal waterways of North Hutchinson Island, Fla., and summers on the Wisconsin River in their log cabin home of many years. Roy is survived by his wife, Ann Smiles Hanson; and their five children, Suzanne (Bob) Coutre, Madison, Steve (Mary) Hanson, Vero Beach, Fla., William (Candy) Hanson, Danville, Ind., Sally (Carl) Wallin, Streamwood, Ill., and Robert Hanson, Racine. In addition, he will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Aron (Julia) Hanson, Scott Coutre, Matt (Suzanne) Hanson, Chris Coutre, Rebecca (Chad) Hinshaw and Sam Hanson; and two great-grandchildren, Hollis Hanson and Abigayle Hinshaw. He is further survived by a brother, Everett (Helen) Hanson, Waukesha. There will be a private family gathering with interment at the Roselawn cemetery and Mausoleum, Madison, on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004. Ladwig, Loren L. "Hook"

FALL RIVER - Loren L. "Hook" Ladwig, age 71, died on Wednesday Aug. 4, 2004, at his home. Survivors include three sons, Ross (Karla) and Jeff, both of Fall River, and Jay of Beaver Dam; a daughter Lynn (Michael) Bergman of Ohio; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; his former wife of 24 years, Bevalee (Robbins) Hilbert of Columbus; and four sisters. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the JONES-JENSEN FUNERAL HOME, Columbus. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Saturday.

LeTendre, Elizabeth "Betty" Sweeny

EDGERTON - Betty Sweeny LeTendre, born in Edgerton on April 28, 1914, died peacefully at the Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice Center in Madison on Monday, Aug. 2, 2004. Betty was the sixth of eight children born to Margaret and John Sweeney. Betty was a gentle woman who, through her Irish determination, was devoted to her family, church and community. She inspired all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don in 1974. She is survived by her brother, Lyle (Isabelle) Sweeney, Clear Lake, Iowa; her children, Cheri (Robert) Susnar, Pasadena, Calif., Annette Stebbins, Madison, and Don (Deven) LeTendre III, Pasedena, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Jessica Susnar, Robert Susnar III, Nicole (William) Harrity, Stephen (Rachel) Susnar, Peter (Joana) Stebbins, Jr., Trevor (Megan) Stebbins Nobel and Riley LeTendre; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at ALBRECHT FUNERAL HOME on Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at 11 a.m. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will immediately follow in St. Joseph's cemetery, Edgerton. The family wishes to thank friends and staff at Attic Angel Place and the Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice center, Madison, for their loving care.
