Marvin Miller

Owen (Marvin) Miller, age 72 of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin died Thursday, October 3, 2002 at Wm.S.Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 7, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at the Picha Funeral Home in Lake Delton, Wisconsin with Reverend Terry Woirol officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187 of Wisconsin Dells. Following the traditional services Marvin will be cremated.

Marvin was born July 18, 1930 in Rib Lake, Wisconsin the son of Owen and Helen (Poff) Miller. In 1947 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1956. He enlisted again in 1960 in the U.S. Coast Guard and was honorably discharged in 1971. He had attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer Electrician. In 1960 he married Betty Gardner in Staten Island, New York . Following his military service Marvin worked as a building engineer at the McMillan Memorial Library in Wisconsin Rapids . Marvin was an avid bowler and was a member of the Tri City Businessmen and Sunday Night Misfits teams. He also coached a junior bowling team in Nekoosa, Wisconsin for 12 years. Another favorite pastime was weaving custom and unique designs on aluminum folding chairs.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Betty; sons, Michael (Laurie) Miller and Chad Geisen both of Wisconsin Rapids, Cyril Granahan of Marshfield, Wisconsin; daughters, Terry (Steven) Schultz of Lake Delton and Maureen (Alan) Hauge of Acworth, Georgia; brothers, Loren of Mesa, Arizona, Darryl of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, Ted (Peggy) of North Freedom, Wisconsin and Jim (Ellen) of Glen Cove, Maine; sisters, Ann (Robert) Olsen of Baraboo, Wisconsin, Waverly Owen of Valton, Wisconsin, Shirley (John) Sigafus of Hayward, Wisconsin and Anola Rosenow of Reedsburg; 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Debora; grandson, Johnny Renner and brothers, Bud, Leslie and Harold.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Veteran’s Hospital.

Visitation will be held at the Picha Funeral Home on Sunday, October 6, 2002 from 5 to 8 P.M. and on Monday from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11:00 A.M.

Kenneth Dittrich

Kenneth F. Dittrich, age 76 of Lake Delton, Wisconsin died Wednesday, September 18, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 23, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at the Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Wisconsin Dells with Mother Diane Markevitch officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187 of Wisconsin Dells. Burial will be at Lake Delton Village cemetery beside his beloved wife Shir Lee.

Visitation will be held at the Picha Funeral Home of Lake Delton on Sunday, September 22, 2002 from 4 to 7 P.M. and on Monday at Holy Cross Episcopal Church from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M.

Kenneth was born June 20, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Elizabeth Dittrich. After his mothers death when he was 5 he was raised by his Anna (Irving) Kramer. Ken served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant during World War 2. He married his high school sweetheart, Shir Lee Iverson on August 23, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois. Ken and Shir Lee made Lake Delton their home in 1948. He was employed by Scott Construction from its inception and served as vice president until his retirement in 1991. He was a charter member of the Lake Delton Lions Club and served as its president. Lion’s International recently presented Ken with the Melvin Jones Award for his humanitarianism. He was also a member of the Lake Delton Volunteer Fire Department. Ken loved to whistle, dance and laugh.

Ken will be deeply missed by his family and so very many friends. Ken is survived by his children, Craig (Elaine) Dittrich of Baraboo, Wisconsin, Jennifer (Nick) Brazeau of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, and Nancy (Randy) Kuhnau of Wisconsin Dells, six grandchildren, a sister, Lorraine Kramer of Baraboo and a very special friend, Jean Dorenbos. He was preceded in death by his mother, his Anna, wife Shir Lee and daughter, Donna Gay.

Charles Pagels

Charles Pagels, age 74 of Lake Delton, Wisconsin died Friday, September 6, 2002 at the Divine Savior Nursing Home in Portage, Wisconsin .

Memorial funeral services will be held Saturday, September 28, 2002 at 2:00 P.M. at the Picha Funeral Home in Lake Delton with Chaplain Monica Holden officiating. Charles was cremated at the Castle Rock Cremation Service in Lyndon Station, Wisconsin .

Charles was born September 23, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Charles and Lucretia Pagels. In 1945 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Tarawa Aircraft Carrier. He was honorably discharged in 1948. In 1971 he married Aileen LaFrancis in Lake County, Illinois . For many years Charles was a self employed welder. He also loved to hunt, fish and ride motorcycles.

Charles is survived by his wife, Aileen; sons, Craig (Toni) Pagels of Charleston, South Carolina and Jeffrey Pagels of Boulder, Colorado; a daughter, Lisa Blazina of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; stepsons, Erick (Barbara) Paschen of Potter, Wisconsin, Randy Paschen of Wisconsin Dells, Ray (Connie) Paschen of Baraboo, Wisconsin, Tom (Lee) Paschen of Mission Viejo, California, Brett Paschen of Florida and Tim Paschen of Manila, Philippines; step daughter, Diane (Mike) Contine of Franklin Park, Illinois; a brother, George (Arlene) Pagels of Marengo, Illinois; 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lloyd.

Visitation will be held at the Picha Funeral Home on Saturday from 1 P.M. until the time of service at 2 P.M.

Francis Fischer

Francis Fischer, age 86 of Lake Delton, Wisconsin died Monday, September 9, 2002 at the Wisconsin Dells Health and Rehabilitation Center.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, September 12, 2002 at 12:00 Noon at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells with Father Arnold Reuter officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Cremation will follow the traditional services and Francis will be interred next to his beloved wife at Walnut Hill cemetery in Baraboo, Wisconsin.

Francis was born December 17, 1915 in Cascade, Wisconsin the son of John and Mabel (Schultz) Fischer. On December 26, 1936 he married Geraldine Markusch in Kohler, Wisconsin. They lived a few years in Sheboygan, Wisconsin then moved to Lake Delton with their two young children and settled there. He spent his early, married years working together with his wife in several business ventures. In the early years was the Bowl In Bar and Huck’s Bar and after Fischer’s Supper Club was running he also opened the Wharf Bar and Dance Hall in Wisconsin Dells that featured big name entertainers and the Dells Oasis. His mainstay was Fischer’s Supper Club where for the past 50 years of his lifetime was spent working and operating that along with his wife, son and family members. Francis was also a member of the Lake Delton Village Board for 24 years beginning in 1957 and served as president from 1967 to 1981; served on the Sauk County Board from 1959 through 1971 and was chairman of the Personnel Commission and Health Committee; and was a member of the Baraboo National Bank Board of Directors for 23 years beginning in 1971.

Francis will dearly be missed by his son, Evan and his wife, Deanna (Darrow) Fischer and their four children, Randy (Debbie), Dawn (Bob), Deane and Schely (Jim); a daughter, Diane (Fischer) DeGrush and her husband, James and their three children, Mark, Cheryl and Chadd; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine; parents; a brother, George and a sister, Alena Markgraf.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Brenda Sobojinski

Brenda K. Sobojinski, age 41 of Superior, Wisconsin formerly of Wisconsin Dells passed away at home with her family at her side on September 5, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Brenda was born on October 23, 1960 to Leroy and Sandy Anderson of Wisconsin Dells. She graduated from Wisconsin Dells High School in 1978. On September 24, 1983 she married John Sobojinski in Wisconsin Dells. Through the years Brenda worked as a bookkeeper and most recently she managed the former Lakehead Pipeline Credit Union. Nothing was more important to Brenda than her family. Her pride and joy were her husband and her two beautiful children. She enjoyed life with a spirit of adventure and her quick wit and sense of humor will be missed by all that knew her.

Brenda is survived by her loving husband, John; a daughter Cassie and a son John Michael; her mother Sandy Anderson, Wisconsin Dells; and brothers, Bret (Linda) Anderson, Wisconsin Dells and Bart (Crystal) Anderson, LaValle, Wisconsin. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Brenda was preceded in death by her father Leroy Anderson and a brother Brad.

Memorial funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 12, 2002 at the Picha Funeral Home of Lake Delton, Wisconsin with Reverend Craig Wolfgram officiating. Visitation will be held from 12 Noon until the time of service at 2:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to: Department of Development, Mayo Foundation, 200 First Street SW, Rochester, MN 55905 .

Note that the donation is in memory of Brenda Sobojinski and is to be used for breast cancer research.

Dolores Sigmund

Dolores Sigmund, age 78 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Tuesday, August 6, 2002.

Memorial funeral services will be held Saturday, August 10, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Briggsville, Wisconsin with Father John Hedrick and Father Felix Oehrlein co- officiating. According to her wishes, Dolores was cremated.

Dolores was born June 24, 1924 in Rice Lake, Wisconsin the daughter of Anton and Catherine (Bodewin) Gengler and the youngest of seven children. Dolores married her childhood sweetheart, Edward A. Sigmund in South Mills, North Carolina on June 11, 1943. This marriage was blessed with five sons and two daughters. She was active in her church, the Friends of the Library, and with her husband helped to transport people to the train station or bus depot when they stayed at Mary House while visiting with relatives who were imprisoned.

Dolores is survived by her husband, Edward; sons, Edward R. (Barbara) of Wisconsin Dells, Jeffrey W. (JoEllen) of Evansville, Wisconsin and Troy D. (Jill Whaples) of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin; daughters, Mary (David) Kopas of Moyie Springs, Idaho and Christine (Roger) Kutz of Whitewater, Wisconsin; daughter in law, Marge Sigmund of Cinnaminson, New Jersey; brothers, Anthony (Theresa) Gengler and Matthew (Lorraine) Gengler both of Medford, Wisconsin and Eugene Gengler of West Bend, Wisconsin; sisters, Catherine Brown of Crofton, Maryland, Theresa Zeman of Baraboo, Wisconsin and Isabel Sigmund of Medford; 22 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sons, Lawrence and Gregory.

Visitation will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Briggsville on Saturday from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M. Memorials of remembrance may be given to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, St. Mary Help of Christians or to the charity of choice.

The Picha Funeral Home and Crematory of Lake Delton, Wisconsin assisted the family with arrangements.

Mae Hecock

Mae Hecock, age 94 formerly of Big Spring, Wisconsin died Saturday, August 10, 2002 at the Wisconsin Dells Health & Rehabilitation Center .

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at the Big Spring Congregational Church in Big Spring with Reverend David Rabuck officiating. Burial will be at the Big Spring cemetery .

Mae was born June 29, 1908 in Adams County, Wisconsin the daughter of James and Nina (Mason) Henderson. In July of 1928 she married Ralph Hecock. He preceded her in death in 1968. Mae had been a member of Royal Neighbors of America.

Mae is survived by her daughters, Norma (Earl) Sigafus and Nina (Joseph) Baker both of Reedsburg, Wisconsin and Ramona (Al) LaNeve of Archbold, Ohio; a brother, Donald Henderson, Sr. of Wisconsin Dells; 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 15 great great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a grandson, Tom Hartman; a granddaughter, Norma Molle and a sister in law, Marion Henderson.

Visitation will be held at Big Spring Congregational Church on Wednesday from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11:00 A.M.

The Picha Funeral Home and Crematory of Lake Delton, Wisconsin assisted the family with arrangements.

Aaron Anchor

Aaron Anchor, age 64 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin died Sunday, August 11, 2002 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, August 15, 2002 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells with Father Felix Oehrlein officiating. Burial will be at Calvary cemetery in Wisconsin Dells. Military rites will be provided by the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187 of Wisconsin Dells.

Aaron was born September 2, 1937 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin the son of Stacy and Agnes ( Anderson ) Anchor. He attended the University of Whitewater and was in the U.S. Army. In May of 1964 he married Carol Curtin at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church and this marriage was blessed with 4 children. He has worked for many years for Marshall Erdman and Associates in Waunakee, Wisconsin and retired in December of 2000. Aaron was also a member of the Kilbourn Fire Department and the Wisconsin Dells Lions Club.

Aaron is survived by his wife, Carol; son, Dan (Tara) of Wisconsin Dells; daughters, Krista (Bret) Borowski of Brookfield, Wisconsin, Laurie (Todd) Kriese of Appleton, Wisconsin and Julie (Sean) McCormick of Waukesha, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Sara, Kari, Luke, Riley and Dylan; brothers, Jack of Wisconsin Dells and Bill of Oak Creek, Wisconsin; sisters, Carolyn (Clyde) Moon and Bonnie (Arlan) Hudzinski both of Baraboo, Wisconsin; and a sister in law, Katie (Tom) Travers of Lake Mills, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jim.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Melanoma Research Foundation.

Visitation will be held at the Picha Funeral Home of Lake Delton, Wisconsin on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 from 4 to 8 P.M.

Julius Mattei

Julius Mattei, age 73 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin died Monday, August 12, 2002 at St. Mary's Care Center in Madison, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 16, 2002 at 10:30 A.M. at the Picha Funeral Home in Lake Delton, Wisconsin with Reverend Dave Bauman and Robert Stearns co-officiating. Burial will be at Spring Grove cemetery in Wisconsin Dells.

Julius was born September 27, 1928 in Pence, Wisconsin the son of Jerome and Pauline (Alfonsi) Mattei. In December of 1962 he married Carol Wiese in Hurley, Wisconsin.

Julius is survived by his wife Carol; brothers, Noel (Jean Ann) and Jim (Barb), both of Wisconsin Dells, Frank (Irene) of San Francisco, California and Phillip of Kenosha, Wisconsin; a sister, Angeline (Sam) Sartori of New Carrollton, Maryland and an aunt, Marie Johnson of Wisconsin Dells. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held at Picha Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 to 7 P.M. and on Friday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at 10:30 A.M.

John "Jose" Vanderveer

John D. “Jose” Vanderveer, age 83 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin died Thursday, August 22, 2002 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at the Picha Funeral Home in Lake Delton, Wisconsin with Reverend Steven Keller officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187 of Wisconsin Dells. John will be cremated following the traditional services and interred at Spring Grove cemetery of Wisconsin Dells.

John was born February 27, 1919 in Baraboo, Wisconsin the son of John and Laveta (Von Wald) Vanderveer. He graduated from high school in Adams Friendship and was very active in sports being the captain of his football and basketball teams. Following high school he attended the University of Wisconsin Madison and eventually enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and retired after 30 years achieving the rank of Major. While in the military he also attended Yale University. Following retirement he moved to the Dells where he stayed busy tending bar at the Sand Bar and nurturing his beloved garden. He cherished his friendships and looked forward to Friday fish fries.

John is survived by a son, David (Judy) Vanderveer of Santa Fe, New Mexico; grandsons, John V. Vanderveer of Portland, Oregon and Quinton Vanderveer of Santa Fe; a granddaughter, Angela Vanderveer of Wisconsin Dells; nephews, Turk (Judy) Waterman and Jack (Mary) Waterman both of Wisconsin Dells, James (Nancy) Gruhl of Arizona, Fred (Iris) Gruhl of Michigan and Ed (Mary) Gruhl of Wisconsin; and a longtime family friend, Scott Smith of Wisconsin Dells. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John K. Vanderveer; and sisters, Helen Gruhl and Mae Waterman.

Visitation will be held at Picha Funeral Home on Monday, August 26, 2002 from 5 to 8 P.M. and on Tuesday from 10 A.M. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in care of the Meals on Wheels.

Horace "Bub" Collins

Horace “Bub” Collins, age 75 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin died Tuesday, August 27, 2002 at the St. Clare Hospital of Baraboo, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 30, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Dells with Reverend Craig Wolfgram officiating. Burial will be at Big Spring cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187 of Wisconsin Dells.

Bub was born April 23, 1927 in Camp Douglas, Wisconsin the son of Gerald and Marvel (White) Collins. He joined two sisters and a brother. In 1931 the family moved to Elroy, Wisconsin where he attended Grade and High School. He graduated from Elroy High School in 1945. During World War 2 he served his country in the U.S. Army as drum major for the 88th Infantry Division Band and leader of a USO dance band. Music was one of Bub’s greatest joys. Throughout his life he played with various combos and big bands including the Vagabonds, the Jack Kucher Band and the Hal Edwards Orchestra. He worked as an independent carpenter in the Elroy, Hillsboro, Wonewoc, Mauston and Adams area for many years building and remodeling homes. His family and friends will cherish the memories of his impressive musical talent, his unique sense of humor and his creative ability to build and fix things. Bub was a member of the American Legion, serving as both Post and County Commander. He had resided with his wife Eleanor in the Wisconsin Dells area for the past 30 years. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Dells.

Bub is survived by his wife, Eleanor; two sons, William (Jayne) of LaFarge, Wisconsin and Robert of Madison, Wisconsin; four daughters, Carla (Phil) Salamone of Wausau, Wisconsin, Barbara Collins-Gunderson of Redwing, Minnesota, Laura Collins of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Mary (Mark) Johnsrud of Richland Center, Wisconsin; his childrens mother, Jean (Neuman) Collins; nineteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and many loving friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Carol and husband Robert Mason and Ruby and husband Lyle Baltz and a brother, Douglas (Martha) Collins.

Visitation will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church on Friday from 9 A.M. until the time of service at 11:00 A.M.

In lieu of flowers memorials to the family are suggested.
