John Adams

John Adams, age 76 and a lifelong resident of Lyndon Station, Wisconsin died of cancer Monday, March 31, 2003 at his residence with his loving family by his side.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 4, 2003 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lyndon Station with Father Ronald Zinkle, S.J. officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Maurice C. Havey Post 5970 of Lyndon Station, Wisconsin . John will be cremated following the traditional services and will rest at St. Mary’s Catholic cemetery in Lyndon Station.

John was born June 30, 1926 in Lyndon Station, Wisconsin the third child of Ben and Mary (Netik) Adams. He was raised in Lyndon Station and attended schools there and in Mauston, Wisconsin . He joined the Navy at the age of 17 and proudly served in the Pacific Campaign during World War 2. He married Monica Horihan in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1949 and they had 2 daughters. Monica died in 1957. In 1961 he married Leota Roeling in Lyndon Station and she died in 1982. John married Judy Showers in 1984. His entire work career was involved with the meat industry. He operated a meat market in Mauston with his brother, Harvey in the mid 1940’s, worked as a meat cutter in Milwaukee and Reedsburg A&P Stores for over 25 years and then as a meat inspector for the State Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection retiring in 1989 after 21 years. John served his community as a local Justice of the Peace and village president. He was a retired member of the volunteer fire department and past commander of the Maurice C. Havey Post 5970 of Lyndon Station, Wisconsin .

John is survived by his wife, Judy; daughters, Jennifer Brereton of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin and Susan of Verona, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Wendy (Troy) Arenz of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Corrie Brereton (fiancé Kris Burmeister) of Middleton, Wisconsin and Kyall Brereton (Maryia) of Baraboo, Wisconsin; stepchildren, Shawnee, Lisa, Poncho, Jo and Jean; 11 stepgrandchildren, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harvey; sister, Lucille; son in law, William Brereton and stepson, Walter “Buster” Beighley.

Visitation will be held at the Conway Picha Funeral Home of Lyndon Station on Thursday, April 3, 2003 from 5 to 8 P.M.

Agnes Gibeaut

Agnes Gibeaut, age 84 of Mauston, Wisconsin died peacefully Sunday, March 23, 2003 at her residence.

Memorial graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at 1:00 P.M. at the Valton cemetery in Valton, Wisconsin with Reverend Richard Bonney officiating.

Agnes was born October 5, 1918 in Clinton, Iowa the daughter of Thomas and Myrtle (Herdendorf) McGraw. She was married to Rollus Gibeaut and he preceded her in death in 1979.

Agnes is survived by her sons, Roland and Renold, both of Mauston and Maurie (Elaine) of Pueblo, Colorado; a daughter, Donna Reget of Mauston; grandchildren, Michael (Tammy) Reget, Bryan and Brandon Gibeaut, Terri (Brent) Paulson, and Lance Telfair; and great grandchildren, Dylan Reget and Logan Paulson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Dick and Earl and a sister, Lucille.

In lieu of flowers memorials of remembrance in Agnes’ name may be given to the Children’s section of the Hatch Public Library in Mauston.

Pamela Laboy

Pamela Laboy, age 55 of Lyndon Station, Wisconsin died Thursday, March 13, 2003 at the University Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin .

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 17, 2003 at 1:00 P.M. at the Conway-Picha Funeral Home in Lyndon Station with Reverend Jeffrey Fairchild officiating. Burial will be at the Bayview cemetery in Necedah, Wisconsin .

Pam was born September 1, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Leonard and Alice (Hoard) Perkins. She was a kind, free spirited person and she dearly enjoyed her grandchildren as well as the rest of her family. She enjoyed crafts, listening to music, fishing and using her computer.

Pam will dearly be missed by her son, Angel (Tracy) Laboy of Kenosha, Wisconsin; daughter, Alice (Eric) Avery of Ocala, Florida; sisters, Beverly (Paul) Dazzo and Teresa (Isadore) Fiumefreddo both of Chicago, Illinois and Darlene (Jack) Kramer of Bowling Brook, Illinois; grandchildren, Amanda, Alyssa, Andraya and Brandon and a very special friend, Patricia Barkulis of Lyndon Station. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.

Visitation will be held at the Conway Picha Funeral Home on Monday from 11 A.M. until the time of service at 1:00 P.M.

Gosta Rosenback

Gosta Rosenback, age 88 of Lyndon Station, Wisconsin died Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at the Wisconsin Dells Health and Rehabilitation Center following a lengthy illness.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 14, 2003 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lyndon Station with Father Ronald Zinkle, S.J. officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic cemetery.

Gosta was born July 17, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Henry and Selma (Sjoblom) Rosenback. In June of 1937 he married Gertrude Nate in Oak Park, Illinois. For many years he worked at a butter factory in Chicago and after retirement he moved to Lyndon Station. Gosta served on the Lyndon Station village board and was a coordinator for the local housing and urban development.

Gosta is survived by nephews, Homer (Patti) Schwab and William (Violet) Schwab both of Lyndon Station and Benjamin (Berniece) Schwab, Jr. of Janesville, Wisconsin; nieces, Geraldine Johnson of Lyndon Station, Peggy Anderson of Illinois and Shirley (Pete) Nehls of Lone Rock, Wisconsin and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a sister, Ruth Bellows.

Visitation will be held at the Conway Picha Funeral Home of Lyndon Station on Thursday, March 13, 2003 from 5 to 7 P.M. with a prayer service at 6:30.

Wayne "Waldo" Magnuson

Wayne “Waldo” Magnuson, age 58 of Mauston, Wisconsin died Thursday, February 13, 2003 at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital of Tomah, Wisconsin.

Memorial funeral services will be held at a later date in the spring to be announced. Wayne was cremated according to his wishes.

Wayne was born December 18, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Bruce and Florence (Samuelson) Magnuson. He grew up in the Pell Lake, Wisconsin area and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1961. He had been involved in the Bay of Pigs Invasion in Cuba and was honorably discharged in 1966. After his discharge he was a co-owner of the Magnuson Brothers Heating and Air Conditioning Company in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin . For the last 10 years he lived near Castle Rock Lake .

Wayne is survived by his sons, Michael (Shirley) of Thornton, Colorado and Scott (Cleo) of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; brothers, Gary (Sandy King) and Keith both of Mauston; sisters, Suzanne Magnuson of Twin Lakes and Gayle Voiles of Florida; 5 grandchildren; 2 nieces and 2 nephews; and special friends, Skip and Diane Todd of Pell Lake, Wisconsin, Rick Neumann and Larry Willie both of Mauston, Pete and Debbie Gaertner of Wheatland, Wisconsin and Matty. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dee Dee Adrianni and stepmother, Staska Magnuson.

Arnold "Shorty" Hoehn

Arnold “Shorty” Hoehn, age 83, a lifelong resident of Lyndon Station, Wisconsin died Sunday, February 9, 2003 at the Wisconsin Dells Health & Rehabilitation Center with his loving family by his side.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 13, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Lyndon Station with Reverend Ronald Breight officiating. Burial will be at the Lyndon Station Village cemetery . Military rites will be provided by the Maurice C. Havey Post 5970 of Lyndon Station, Wisconsin .

Shorty was born September 21, 1919 in Lyndon Station, Wisconsin the son of Reinhold and Esther (Foss) Hoehn. He was baptized by Reverend Martin Huebner at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and confirmed by Reverend Smukel in 1936. In 1945 he married Theresa Alwin at Grace Lutheran Church in Racine, Wisconsin . He was in business with his father for 30 years in the R. Hoehn and Son Lumber Company and carried on the family business with his son Walter, until he retired due to Parkinson’s Disease.

Shorty served his country in the U.S. Army during World War 2 in the South Pacific from 1941 to 1945 in the 41st Infantry Division, 2nd Battallion. He was a charter member of the V.F.W. Post 5970 in Lyndon Station and a member of the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187 of Wisconsin Dells. He served his community as the mayor and village trustee; was a retired member of the Lyndon Station Volunteer Fire Department; and was a lifetime member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and building committee.

Shorty is survived by his wife, Tess; son, Walter (Judy) of Lyndon Station; grandchildren, Tracy (Jeff) Hoffman and Bryon (Jessie) Hoehn; sisters in law, Jean Hoehn and Lillian Hoehn; a brother in law, Leo (Margaret) Alwin and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arthur and Edward and a sister, Gertrude Meyer.

Visitation will be held at the Conway Picha Funeral Home of Lyndon Station on Wednesday from 4 to 8 P.M. and on Thursday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M.

Clifford Lowe

Clifford Lowe, Chee-mani-ga (Walking With Thunder) age 83 of Lyndon Station, Wisconsin passed away Thursday, January 30, 2003 at his residence with his family by his side.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 1, 2003 at 1:00 P.M. at the Conway-Picha Funeral Home in Lyndon Station, Wisconsin with Reverend Roger Wentz officiating. Burial will be at Spring Grove cemetery in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin .

Clifford was born July 2, 1919 in Black River Falls, Wisconsin the son of Martin and Liza (Decorah) Lowe. He attended Neillsville Indian School and graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1941. On August 14, 1941 he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and was an Aerial Engineer. During his service he received the Army Air Force Air Crew Member Badge (Wings). His decorations and citations included: American Defense Service Ribbon, Victory Medal-American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with three bronze stares, two overseas service bars, one service stripe and the Good Conduct Medal. On February 2, 1952 he married Della Wabshoggin.

Clifford attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls for post-graduate study in law courses in 1971-72. He also graduated from Greer College in Chicago in Diesel Mechanics.

Clifford was very active in sports. His favorite sport was baseball. He pitched for the Lake Delton minor league baseball team for a few years. He was a southpaw and a good one at that.

Clifford leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Della Lowe, and children Debra Jeanne Lowe and Patricia A (Michael) Lowe-Ennis, five grandchildren: Jason, Gina, John, Jillian and Oliver; seven great-grandchildren: Paige, Mckensey, Madison, Indya, Amira, Brandon and Camille; brothers Raymond Lowe of Trempleau, Chloris Lowe Sr. of New Lisbon, Truman Lowe of Madison and three sisters, Arvina Thayer of Madison, Irene Keenan of LaCrosse and Lorraine Fiscus of Whiting, Iowa. He is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter Leslie; parents; and two sisters Mildred Lowe and Lucille Rajue.

Visitation will be held at Conway Picha Funeral Home on Friday, January 31, 2003 from 4 to 8 P.M. and on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at 1:00 P.M.

Walter Hladon

Wlodzimierz “Walter” Hladon, age 91 of Scottsdale, Arizona, formerly of Lyndon Station, Wisconsin died Thursday, January 2, 2003 at Scottsdale following a struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 6, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Lyndon Station with Reverend Ronald Breight officiating. Burial will be at the Lyndon Station Village cemetery.

Walter was born June 4, 1911 in Poland. He immigrated to the United States and lived in Chicago, Illinois. In 1954 he moved to Lyndon Station where he lived until 1997. He then moved to Arizona to live with his son, Frank and his family.

Walter is survived by a son, Frank (Alice) Hladon of Maricopa, Arizona; daughters, Maria Stefanski of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Teresa (Bill) Scheldberg of Houston, Texas and Trudy (Ziggy) Ziemek of Lyndon Station; 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Katarzyna and a grandson, Andrew Ziemek.

Visitation will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church on Monday from 10 to 11 A.M.

Joan Maier

Joan Maier, age 68 of Mauston, Wisconsin died Saturday, February 7, 2004 at her residence following a lengthy illness.

There will be no services held at this time according to her wishes.

Joan was born July 19, 19 35 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin the daughter of George and Sarah (Cicerelli) Collura. On December 26, 1976 she married David Maier in West Covina, California . From 1976 to 1987 they lived in Marshfield, Wisconsin and then moved to Mauston. Together they owned and operated the Elroy Auto Supply until 1996 with Joan being the parts delivery person which she loved meeting the people. She had been a member of the Marshfield Women’s Club and she loved to travel with her husband, having been to China, Europe, Mexico, Alaska and all points in between.

Joan is survived by her loving husband, David; daughters, Therese (Michael) Calcagno of Sun City, California, Christine Greathouse of Escondido, California, Kathleen (Robert) Shaffer of New Prague, Minnesota and Ann (Kevin) Brandt of Eagan, Minnesota; son, Tom Maier of Deland, Florida; brothers, Joel (Nancy) Collura and Frank (Jean) Collura both of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; a sister, Mary Koerber of Watertown, Wisconsin and 9 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; 1st husband, Joseph Montoya of a heart attack; a sister, Rosetta Galloway and brothers, Sam and Fred Collura.

Ramona Lewis

Ramona Lewis, Hap hani gu wiga, meaning “Bringing of the Dawn Woman”, age 73 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin walked on Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at the Wisconsin Dells Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 6, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. at the Native American Church in Wisconsin Dells with Gordon Thunder officiating. Burial will be at the Indian Baptist Church cemetery.

Ramona was born July 9, 19 30 in Portage, Wisconsin the daughter of Emerson and Adeline (Decora) Decorah. She was married to Curtis Lewis and he preceded her in death. Ramona had lived in New Mexico; Oklahoma; Tomah, Wisconsin and mostly in the Dells area. Ramona was a very loving person to many others and had an open door to welcome friends and family alike. She was very artistic with crafts, especially beadwork and basketwork. She was very knowledgeable of the HoChunk culture and spoke the language fluently. Ramona was well respected and regarded as the cornerstone of her family.

Ramona is survived by her daughters, Joyce WhiteEagle and Barbara Funmaker both of Wisconsin Dells and Francina Williams of Baraboo, Wisconsin; a brother, Kieth (Alberta) Decorah of Reedsburg, Wisconsin and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Carl Decorah an infant sister, Joyce; and grandchildren, Darlene, Taniya and Kunu.

Visitation will be held at the Conway Picha Funeral Home of Lyndon Station, Wisconsin on Thursday from 2 to 4 P.M. and on Thursday at the Native American Church from 4:30 P.M. until time of service at 1:00 P.M. on Friday.
