Randel, Lynn M.

MOUNT HOREB/ MINERAL POINT - Lynn M. Randel, D.D.S., age 57, died on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at University of Wisconsin Hospital. He was born on Feb. 23, 1947, in Kenosha, the son of Anne and Nacy Randel. He earned a B.S. degree from Carthage College in 1969. He taught biology at Kenosha High School for a year before joining the Air Force in 1971. He attended pilot training in Enid, Okla., serving three years, including flying refueling missions in Vietnam. He was united in marriage with Mary Dederich on June 19, 1971. Upon leaving active duty, he joined the Air Force Reserves in Milwaukee where he achieved the rank of major. He attended Marquette University Dental School, earning his DDS in 1980. He had dental practices in Blanchardville and Mineral Point, where he joyfully practiced from 1980 until November of 2004, with a supportive and caring staff. He loved dentistry and the people he worked with. Lynn took great pride in providing gentle, compassionate dental care to his patients. He had many interests throughout his life including racing his SHO, flying model airplanes, and playing with his children. He is survived by his father, Nacy Randel; a stepmother, Betty; wife, Mary; seven children, Griffith, Erin, Seanna, Megan, Dylan, Stephanie and Madelynn; a cousin, Dr. Cindy Cernak; an aunt, Evelyn Cernak; and special friends, Bob Pustell and Don Gaines. His mother, Anne, and his uncle, Stanley Cernak, preceded him in death. Lynn was a recipient of two liver transplants and was deeply appreciative to the donor families who extended his life. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be donated to help transplant patients at the University of Wisconsin Hospital. The family would like to thank everyone at University Hospital for the excellent care Lynn received over the past ten years. A very warm and special thank you to the TLC staff at the UW for their gentle care and unwavering support and kindness during his most recent admission. Ten years ago Lynn chose to extend his life through a liver transplant. He enthusiastically and positively engaged in life and work making every day count. He loved his family and was very proud of his children. Lynn was filled with remarkable inner strength, positive spirit, a love for life, and he will be sadly missed. A celebration of Lynn's life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH in Mineral Point. Friends may call on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church. Scheel, Shawn Marie

MIDDLETON - Shawn Marie Scheel, age 46, passed away suddenly at home on Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, due to a heart attack. Shawn was born on Sept. 25, 1958, in Fort Atkinson, to parents Orville and Marlene (Kottwitz) Scheel. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1976 and UW-Stout in 1980. She was also further educated as a paralegal. Shawn was currently employed at Dane County Title Company and The University Bookstore at Hilldale. She was an active member and former trustee at Glenwood Moravian Community Church. Shawn enjoyed reading, going to concerts and spending time with her two cats. She is survived by her parents, Orville and Marlene Scheel of Watertown; a sister, Shelly (Danny) Piper of Lake Mills; a brother, Shannon (Ann) Scheel of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Sheryl (Dan) Piper of Eau Claire; special nieces and nephews, Sommer, Nicole, Taylor, Laura, Molly, Chandler, Jeremy, Chase and Jack. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at GLENWOOD MORAVIAN COMMUNITY CHURCH, 725 Gilmore, Madison. Services will be officiated by the Rev. Mary Lou Plummer and the Rev. Wilson, Daniel R.

MADISON - Daniel R. Wilson, age 52, passed away while at work in Lodi on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, as the result of a fall. A graduate of Madison West High School in 1970, Daniel has been employed by Norsk Bowl of Mount Horeb and the Ryan Company Inc. of Lodi. He enjoyed playing golf and softball and cheering for the Badgers and Packers. Dan is survived by his two daughters, Valerie and Natalie Wilson, living in Tucson, Arizona; his parents, Robert J. and Vera Wilson; his brother, James (Beth) and their children, Robert, William and Abigail, all of Madison; his sister, Jean (Michael) Englade and their children, Rachel, Claire & Nicholas, all of Santa Cruz, California. Backus, Rosemary

MADISON - Rosemary K. Backus, passed away suddenly at St. Marys Hospital, on Tuesday, March 1, 2005, with her family at her side. She was born on March 4, 1922, in Racine. She was united in marriage to George "Buck" Backus on Aug. 30, 1952. Rosemary was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Rosemary's giving and loving nature will always be remembered, and her friends and family will dearly miss her. Rosemary is survived by her twin daughters, Bonny (Tom) Trotta and Penny (Rick) Heinz; and her sisters, Lou Goebel of Charlotte, N.C., and Romayne Mauricio of San Diego, Calif. She is further survived by four grandchildren, Rebekah (Heinz) Storkson, Robert Heinz, and Nicole and Whitney Trotta; and three great-grandchildren, Derek and Taylor Storkson, and Corey Wood. A lunch and gathering of friends and family will be held at noon on Sunday, March 13, 2005, at the OAKWOOD EAST, 5565 Tancho Drive (off American Parkway), Madison. Cumbee, Frances Z.

MADISON - Frances Z. Cumbee, of Madison, whose 88th birthday would have been on Sunday, March 6, 2005, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, March 3, 2005, with her nieces from Alabama, Judy Cumbee and Nan Rucks, and her supportive elder care companions, Nancy Prine and Barbara Bauer, present. Frances Cumbee, originally of Hillview Farms, Fredonia, Ala., was born in 1917, the daughter of Alfred Zachery and Alleen (Andrews) Cumbee. After graduation from high school in Five Points, Ala., she graduated in 1938 from Alabama College (now University of Montevallo) with a B.S. in physical education. After teaching at Pell City (Alabama) High School from 1938 until 1940, she received her M.S. in physical education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1941. She then taught for four years at Beaver College, Jenkintown, Pa., serving as director of the physical education department her last two years. In 1945 Frances returned to the University of Wisconsin, beginning work in educational measurement for her Ph.D., which she received in 1952. While a doctoral student, she was also an instructor of physical education for women, chairman of Sports Session for three years and a counselor in the School of Education, beginning in 1951. Later she became professor until 1987, when she retired as emerita professor, having been on the faculty 42 years. A devoted supporter of UW women's basketball, Fran, also called Frankie, a season-ticket holder for many years, sat directly behind "her girls." She donated generously to UW athletics, as well as to the university in general, specifically including the School of Education, the School of Medicine and the University Preservation and Restoration Fund. Her academic memberships included Kappa Delta Pi, Lamda Theta, the American Association of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, the North American Society for Sports History and the International Congress of Psychology of Sport, for which she presented a paper in Rome, Italy. In 1975 Dr. Cumbee received a citation award from the Wisconsin Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance in recognition of "significant contributions for advancement made to the profession." In 1997 the University of Montevallo named "Dr. Fran Cumbee Alumna of the Year." A member of the Madison women's civic organization ALTRUSA, Frankie regularly made her Alabama yellow tomato preserves, always a hit at their annual fundraiser. Friends and family appreciated her delicious baked breads also. A gardener, golfer and superb knitter, Frances Cumbee supported many organizations including the Madison Symphony, Olbrich Gardens, the Arboretum and International Crane Foundation. Frances is survived by nephews and nieces, Jack A. Cumbee, Jr. and Judy Collins Cumbee of Fredonia, Ala., and Andrew Cumbee Rucks and Nancy Vann Rucks of Birmingham, Ala.; and by great-nieces and great-nephews, Collin Andrews Cumbee of Tustin, Calif., Caroline Cumbee McDonald of Woodstock, Ga., Elizabeth Ann Rucks of Morgantown, W.Va., Shannon Ashley Rucks of Atlanta, Ga., Margaret Ann Hall Swearingen of Montgomery, Ala., and Jimmy Hall of Alabama. She was predeceased by brothers, Alfred Z. Cumbee Jr. and Jack A. Cumbee; and sister, Ann Cumbee Rucks. A memorial service will be held on her birthday, Sunday, March 6, 2005, at 3 p.m. For information about the service to be held in Alabama, call (334) 499-2380. Feingold, Sylvia Binstock

JANESVILLE - Sylvia Binstock Feingold, age 86, died on Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at her home. She was born in Memphis, Tenn., on Dec. 13, 1918, the daughter of Isaac and Rachel (Rosenfeld) Binstock. She attended Colorado Women's College and graduated from UW-Madison in 1940. Sylvia married Leon Feingold on Sept. 15, 1940, in Denver, Colo. He preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 1980. She was co-owner and employed by Modern Abstract and Title Company for more than 30 years. She was also a member of Temple Beth El of Madison and Beth Hillel of Kenosha. Additionally, Mrs. Feingold was a Brownie Scout leader, member of the Hadassah, P.T.A., the League of Women Voters, Zonta Club and was a French teacher at Janesville High School. Sylvia was a lover of language in all its forms. She spoke several languages fluently and enjoyed word games. She had a life-long interest in learning, including attending classes at UW-Madison for many years after her retirement, and traveling to many parts of the country and around the world for Elderhostels. With her beloved husband, Leon, of blessed memory, she traveled to many countries and continued traveling on her own after his death in 1980. She was very independent and strong. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was a true friend to many. She is survived by her children, Nancy (Doug Green) Feingold of Madison, David B. (Julie) Feingold of Janesville, Russell D. (Mary) Feingold of Middleton, and Dena A. (Brad Backer) Feingold of Kenosha; grandchildren, Rachel (Scott Titus) Krinsky of Madison, Dan (Anat) Kayros of Israel, Ann (Ben) Imig of Chicago, Ill., Joel Feingold and Ilana Feingold, both of Janesville, Jessica Feingold of Eau Claire, Ellen Feingold of Middleton, and Jonathan Backer and Abigail Backer, both of Kenosha; and great-grandchildren, Kenna and Nathan Titus, Yael Kayros and Elliott Imig. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon; her parents, Isaac and Rachel Binstock; and brother, Rabbi Louis Binstock. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2005, at the SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME, Janesville, with Rabbi Darryl Crystal officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery, Madison. Condolence calls may be made at the Feingold home, 1207 Vista Ave., Janesville, at 7 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, March 5, 2005, where a Jewish worship service will also be held on both evenings at that time. On Sunday, March 6, 2005, condolence calls and a service will be held at the home of Nancy Feingold, 110 Alden Dr., Madison, WI 53705. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sylvia B. Feingold Scholarship Fund or to Temple Beth Hillel.

Fey, Marlene R.

MADISON - Marlene R. Fey, age 71, passed away at her home on Wednesday, March 2, 2005, after an 18-month bout with cancer. She was born on April 7, 1933, in Madison, the daughter of Paul and Ella (Kahle) Schultz. Marlene attended Madison schools and graduated from Madison East High School in 1951. She attended and graduated from the UW with a B.A. degree in June 1957. Marlene and Thomas J. Wiley were united in marriage in August 1957 and resided in Green Bay before relocating to West Bend in 1962. There they raised three children. Thomas passed away in January 1977. Marlene continued as a "stay-at-home-mom" to be available to her children at all times. She spent every summer but one since 1945 at her parents and then her own cottage on her beloved Big Lake in Three Lakes. On March 22, 1984, Marlene married Robert T. Fey of Madison. She and Bob moved into their current home two months after their marriage. Marlene was a tower of strength to those who knew her, having overcome several life-threatening diseases in her childhood and adulthood. Her faith in God was unshakeable as she prepared herself for her final journey. Marlene was not involved in formal organizations but spent her time helping and rendering aid to afflicted family, relatives and friends. She was a member of Midvale Community Lutheran Church in Madison. Marlene is survived by her husband, Bob; three children, Debra (Elliott) Welsch of Katy, Texas, Eric Wiley of Mount Horeb, and Keith Wiley of Lake Nebagamon; two stepchildren, Lauren (Dean) Stitgen of Waunakee, and Randall Fey of Bloomington, Minn.; three grandchildren, Trevor and Logan Welsch, and Laurel Wiley; and a step-grandson, Ben Stitgen. She was preceded in death by her first husband; her parents; and brother, Carl. Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, March 7, 2005, at MIDVALE COMMUNITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4329 Tokay Blvd., Madison, with the Rev. Bruce Loewenhagen and the Rev. Blake Rohrer officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. There will be no burial service as she will be cremated. Finn, Terri S.

PATCH GROVE - Terri S. Finn, age 52, of Patch Grove, died on Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at her home, as a result of pulmonary hypertension. She was born on Nov. 23, 1952, in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Robert and Shirley (Gulick) Beneker. Terri was married to John "Jiggs" Finn on Aug. 21, 1971, at Zion Lutheran Church in Bagley. In earlier years, she was a farm wife, and in later years, worked for the River Ridge school district until illness forced her to retire. Terri was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be missed by all. She is survived by her husband, John Finn of Patch Grove; four children, Kiley (Katie) Finn of College Station, Texas, Penny Finn of Middleton, Maria (Dan) Hoffman of Holmen, and Kayle (Amber) Finn of LaCrosse; a granddaughter, Alexis Mae Hoffman; a brother, Greg (Bette) Beneker of Prairie du Chien; a sister, Cheri (Rick) Fraser of Onalaska; a sister-in-law, Peggy Beneker of McFarland; and her mother-in-law, Ruth Finn of Patch Grove. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gary Beneker; an infant nephew; and her father-in-law, Lawrence Finn. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the MARTIN PAGE FUNERAL HOME, Bloomington, with the Rev. Mike Christensen officiating. Gross, Frederick H.

JEFFERSON - Frederick H. "Fred" Gross, age 88, of Jefferson, died on Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Farmington Acres in Concord. Born on April 28, 1916, in Jefferson County, to Henry and Ella (Popp) Gross, he married Shirley Draeger on June 20, 1942, in Cold Spring. She preceded him in death on May 7, 2001. He was a lifetime member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Cold Spring, and was also a member of the Jefferson County Democratic Party and Johnson Creek Co-op. Fred was a lifelong dairy farmer in the town of Aztalan. Surviving are a son, Gary (Jan) Gross of Necedah; three daughters, Susan (Roger) Millard of Whitewater, Sally (John) Fetherston of Jefferson, and Shirley (Rick) Kozulla of Fort Atkinson; a daughter-in-law, Carol (Mike Burow) Gross of Jefferson; five grandsons, Aaron (Melissa) Gross, Addam (Marta) Gross, Andrew Gross, Josh (Melissa) Gross and Ben (Shyla) Millard; six granddaughters, Amy and Anna Fetherston, Katie and Allison Kozulla, Mandy (Joe) Steies and Beth Millard; two great-grandsons, AJ Gross and Austin Steies; three great-granddaughters, Olivia, Clarissa and Karmyn Gross; two sisters, Evelyn Gross of Fort Atkinson, and Arlene Mead of Jefferson; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gordon Gross; three brothers, Arthur Gross, Henry Gross and Arnold Gross; and two sisters, Louise Riebe and Delores Shilkey. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2005, at ST. JOHN'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, Cold Spring, with the Rev. Jeffrey L. Schallert officiating. Burial will be in Cold Spring cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2005, at OLSEN FUNERAL HOME, Jefferson, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday at the church. The family would like to acknowledge the very special caregivers of their Dad and Grandpa, Sue and John Strese of Farmington Acres. God saw he was getting tired and a cure was not to be found. So he put his arms around him and whispered, "Come with me." With tearful eyes we watched him suffer, and saw him fade away. Although we loved him dearly, we could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.

Hass, Anna C.

JANESVILLE - Anna C. Hass, age 88, of Janesville, died on Thursday, March 3, 2005. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2005, at ST. AUGUSTINE CATHOLIC CHURCH, Footville, with Father Kevin Dooley officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, March 6, 2005, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME, Janesville.

Jenson, Robert Nelson "Bob"

EDGERTON/ BERGHIEM, TEXAS - Robert Nelson Jenson, age 73, died on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, in Texas. He was born on June 4, 1931, in Edgerton, the son of Jacob and Bernice (Nelson) Jenson. He was baptized and confirmed at East Koshkonong Church. Bob attended Busseyville and Emery grade school and graduated from Edgerton High School. He served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps where he was a drill instructor. He served in Korea and Vietnam and attained the rank of sergeant major. He retired to Berghiem, Texas, where he worked on offshore drilling until he retired in 1993. Bob is survived by his sons, Robert Jenson Jr., and Barry Jenson, both of Texas; and his special friend, Ginny Jordan of Berghiem, Texas. He is also survived by his sister, Marian Peterson of Stoughton; his brother, Rodell (Lois) of Onalaska; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2005, at 1 p.m. at LUTHERAN SOUTH cemetery, Stoughton. Military rites will be performed by the Stoughton American Legion Post #59 Honor Guard.
