Meyer, Ann E.

MADISON - Ann E. Meyer, age 90, currently of Madison, died on Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center, following a brief illness. She was born on July 31, 1914, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Albert and Barbara (Davis) Fellinger. She recently moved to Madison to be nearer to family. She worked as a cook in the Wauwatosa school district for many years. She was a wonderful seamstress, knitter and loved to crochet. She married Delbert Meyer on April 8, 1933. She is survived by two daughters, Dana (Don) Hafeman of Madison, and Beverly (Warren) Schollaert of Georgia; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Mesich of Clearwater, Fla.; and a son-in-law, Richard Groves of Green Valley, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert, in 1980; a daughter, Judith Groves; and two sisters, Katherine Webber and Helen Cooper. Mikula, Leonard J.

SUN PRAIRIE - Leonard J. Mikula, age 83, died on Thursday, March 3, 2005, at the Willows Nursing Home in Sun Prairie, surrounded by his family. He was born on Sept. 22, 1921, in Minneapolis, Minn., the son of John and Marie (Manchek) Mikula. He married Bernice Weisman on Nov. 23, 1946, at Sacred Hearts Catholic Church in Sun Prairie. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Navy. He worked for CE&PA Roth Inc. for 25 years and was a member of the Teamsters Union local 695. Leonard's greatest joy was spending time with his beloved wife of 58 years ands his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Bernice; three children, Bruce (Cindy) Mikula of Sun Prairie, Patricia Mikula of Atlanta, Ga., and Nancy (Brian) Klipp of Atlanta, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Brian (Annette) Mikula of Sun Prairie, Jason (Kelly) Mikula of Sun Prairie, Jessica (David) Webb of Burlington, Vt., and Drew, Ian, Lauren and Kylie Klipp of Atlanta, Ga.; five great-grandchildren, Alex, Chase, Conor, Abigail and Joshua; two brothers, Norbert (Esther) Mikula of Watertown, and Raymond (Loretta) Mikula of Punta Gorda, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Knorr of Sun Prairie, and El Marie Dorshort of Poynette; many nieces; and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant-twin sister, Lenora. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2005, at SACRED HEARTS OF JESUS AND MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 227 Columbus St., Sun Prairie, with Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt presiding. Burial will be in Sun Prairie Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the TUSCHEN-NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 302 Columbus St., Sun Prairie. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Sacred Hearts Endowment Fund or Parkinson's Research Center. Miller, Art

MONONA - Arthur W. Miller, age 81, of Monona, passed away peacefully at his home, on Monday, Feb. 28, 2005. He was born on May 3, 1923, in Madison, to Jacob and Sarah (Tartakowsky) Miller, both emigrants from Russia. Art was raised in Madison's Greenbush neighborhood, and graduated from Madison Central High School in 1940. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army with the Battery D of the 500th A.A.A. Gun Battalion stationed in Greenland. Upon his return, Art held various jobs before becoming a salesman for local car dealerships including Schappe, Lou Ehlers, Zimbrick Buick and Ahrens Cadillac-Olds, garnering many awards over the years for his salesmanship and integrity. On Dec. 31, 1958, he married Nancy Jean Adkison of Madison, and soon settled in Monona and raised a family. A lifetime member of the local Elks Club, Art enjoyed watching and attending Packers games, boating on Madison lakes, playing cards with the old Greenbush gang, and taking his family on yearly vacations in northern Wisconsin. In later years, he and Nancy enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, Fort Lauderdale, and a Caribbean cruise with their daughter and her husband. A lifelong backer of Badgers sports teams, Art and Nancy also traveled to Pasadena for the 1994 Badgers victory at the Rose Bowl. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; three children, Randy (Linda) Miller of Lodi, David (Monica Piper) Miller of Madison, and Marcy (Jon) Brandt of Rochester, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Nicole, Tyler, Cassandra, Oona, Otto, Dana and Matthew; a sister, Edythe (Nate) Victor of Minneapolis, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Alyce Adkison; two brothers-in-law, Merle Freiman and Don (Carolyn) Doran; and many nieces and nephews. Art was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edward (Shirley) of Milwaukee, Marty (Beverly) of Waunakee, and Marvin (Bea) of Simi Valley, Calif.; and a sister, Cele (Harry) Kadwit of Kenosha. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2005. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Scheldrup, Owen W. "Bud"

STOUGHTON - Owen W. "Bud" Scheldrup, age 79, died peacefully at Skaalen Home on Wednesday, March 2, 2005. Bud, as he was affectionately known, was born on May 5, 1925, at Poynette, Wis. He was a son of the late Fritchof and Lillian (Bohling) Scheldrup. Bud came to Stoughton with his family as a child, graduating from Stoughton High School in the class of 1943. Following graduation, he and his brother, Sidney, owned and operated the Scheldrup Brothers Feed Mill in Stoughton. Their feed mill business was interrupted by being called to serve in the United States Navy during World War II. The brothers resumed operation of the mill following their discharge from service in 1946 until 1967 when they sold the mill. He was employed by Roy Nelson in the cement contracting business following this and for 17 years prior to his retirement he was a mail carrier for the Stoughton post office. Bud was a recipient of the Citizen of the Year award by the Syttende Mai Committee. He was a former Stoughton city alderman for nine years (and council president in 1953), former member of the Stoughton Rotary Club, a member of American Legion Post No. 59, former president of the Historical Society Board and the Eastside cemetery Association. He was a lifelong member of Covenant Lutheran Church, a former usher and member of the memorial committee. He is survived by two brothers, Sidney (Ruby) Scheldrup of Stoughton, and Arthur (Donna) Scheldrup of Arlington Heights, Ill.; two sisters, Mary Smithback of Stoughton, and Jeanette (Roy) Nelson of Stoughton; 15 nieces and nephews further survive him. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 7, 2005, at 11 a.m. at COVENANT LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1525 N. Van Buren St., Stoughton. The Rev. Mark Petersen will officiate. Burial will follow at Eastside cemetery. The family will greet friends at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services. Bud was deeply loved by his family. He will be remembered for generously giving his homemade lefse and bread to family and friends and for the beautiful flower gardens that surrounded his home. Schulenburg, Erich

REEDSBURG - Erich Schulenburg, age 79, of Reedsburg, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Reedsburg Area Medical Center. He was born Oct. 26, 1925, in Washington Township, Sauk County, Wis., to Albert and Esther (Manthe) Schulenburg. Erich was baptized Nov. 22, 1925, and confirmed in his faith April 2, 1939, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Loganville. He grew up on a farm in Washington Township. On Feb. 14, 1953, he was united in marriage to Jeanette M. Luck at Honey Creek Evangelical United Brethren Church. Erich hauled milk and farmed in the Reedsburg area. He enjoyed his trips to Germany, France and Switzerland, where he researched his family heritage. He also enjoyed following his grandchildren's sporting events. Erich was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Reedsburg. His parents; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Schulenburg, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Schulenburg of Reedsburg; children, Karen (Larry) DesJardin of Santa Rosa, Calif., Steven (Pamela) Schulenburg of Reedsburg, and Kevin (Kim) Schulenburg of Reedsburg; grandchildren, Brittney, Zachary and Chelsey Schulenburg, and Eric, Katy and Andrew Schulenburg; brothers and sister, Melvin (Kathleen) Schulenburg of Reedsburg, Harlan Schulenburg of Reedsburg, and Marcella (Mike) Schroeder of Mauston; nieces and nephews, along with other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2005, at ST. JOHN EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, Reedsburg, with Pastor Marsha Carrier officiating. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2005, at FARBER FUNERAL HOME, Reedsburg. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Peter's Lutheran cemetery, Loganville.

Spelshaus, Diedrick "Fred"

PEWAUKEE - Diedrick "Fred" Spelshaus, age 84, of Pewaukee, formerly of Madison, died Monday Feb. 28, 2005, at River Hills West Nursing Home, Pewaukee. He was born April 10, 1920, in Hanover, Germany, the son of Fritz and Louise (Nordholz) Spelshaus. He immigrated to the United States in 1925 and his family settled in Sheboygan. He graduated from Sheboygan High School in 1938. He served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years and then worked as a mail carrier in Madison for more than 20 years, retiring in 1980. He loved to spend time at his cottage in Montello, loved hunting and the outdoors. He was also really loved exercising at Vic Tanny and received many gold medals for the Olympics that were held through there. He is survived by his daughter, Donna (Jerry) Kollwelter of Whitewater; a son, Fred (Cathy) Spelshaus of Waukesha; five grandchildren, Jason Kollwelter of Whitewater, Kimberly Kollwelter of Naperville, Ill., Jarod Kollwelter of Whitewater, Adam Spelshaus of Madison, and Steven Spelshaus of Waukesha; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2005, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, with the Rev. Jerald Wendt officiating. Friends may call after 10:30 a.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home. The family is requesting that memorials be given to the American Immigrant Wall of Honor at the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation in New York, N.Y. Olsen Funeral Home, Whitewater, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Spencer, Pearl L. (nee Sperloen)

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. - Pearl L. Spencer, age 92, formerly of Evansville, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2005, in Hendersonville, N.C. Pearl was born in Stoughton on Nov. 7, 1912, the daughter of the late Erick and Sena (nee Pederson) Sperloen. She resided in Evansville for 25 years, moving to Appleton in 1958. She then moved to Hendersonville, N.C., in 1979 to be near her daughter and family. Pearl was united in marriage to Lewis A. Spencer, who preceded her in death on Feb. 13, 1994. Pearl's greatest love was spending time with her entire family. She will be sadly missed. Survivors include her children, Gerald (Susan) Spencer of Decatur, Ga., Lois Wandfluh of Monroe, and Dorothy (Arne) Thorsland of Hendersonville, N.C.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her brother, Oscar Sperloen of Stoughton; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many dear friends. In addition to her parents; and husband; she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Wesley Wandfluh; a brother; and six sisters. Stedman, Patricia M.

MADISON - Patricia M. Stedman, age 94, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2005. She was born on Sept. 29, 1910, in Beloit. Patricia was united in marriage to John C. Stedman on Aug. 31, 1935. He preceded her in death in 1983. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church of Madison. She was also a member of the PEO Sisterhood, Child Development Inc., Attic Angels and the International Crane Foundation. Patricia had a variety of interests which included her love of traveling and playing bridge. Patricia is survived by her children, John V. Stedman of Milwaukee, Peter D. Stedman of Sedona, Ariz., Sarah Stedman of Bethlehem, Pa., and Jane Stedman of Baraboo; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, John C. Stedman; she was preceded in death by a son, William M. Stedman; and a granddaughter, Rachel. Family services will be held. Sulkowski, John M.

MADISON - John M. Sulkowski, age 61, died suddenly of heart complications at his home on Friday, Feb. 25, 2005. He was born in Milwaukee, on June 23, 1943, the only child of the late Robert and Agnes (Miller) Sulkowski. While a student at UW-Milwaukee, he met the outgoing and vivacious Carol Pautz. They were married on Jan. 29, 1966. After the births of Alex and Krista, they moved to Stoughton in 1970 where Carol taught art and John pursued his master's degree in English at UW-Madison. John eventually worked for the Dane County Highway Department, from which he retired at age 51 in 1994 to care for Carol until her death in 2000. John was a very private person who shared his wit and charm with a close circle of family and friends. He was an extraordinary generous and supportive husband, parent and friend. He enjoyed games of chance, camping, and reading the classics. He was an ardent fan of the writings of Henry Miller, with whom he shared a straightforward world view and finely tuned sense of humor. John enjoyed hosting dinner parties where his guests enjoyed his phenomenal cooking and engaging repartee. John is survived by his son, Alex of Madison; daughter, Krista (Joseph) Donahue; and granddaughter, Lily, all of Minneapolis. A memorial gathering of friends and family will be held on Friday, March 11, 2005, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at OLSON-HOLZHUTER-CRESS FUNERAL HOME. MADISON - Robert Thayer Wood, age 66, born on Jan. 17, 1939, passed away from this earth to eternal life on Wednesday, March 3, 2005. A religious service to honor Bob's life will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2005, at GRACE EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 116 W. Washington Ave., Madison. A luncheon in the church guild hall will follow. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2005, at the GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., Middleton. A graveside service will take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at the St. Malachy's cemetery, County Highway N, town of Clyde, with a luncheon following at the Bob and Barbara's home, "Castlewood", 2850 County Highway I, town of Clyde.
