Reininger, Gerald L.

SUN PRAIRIE - Gerald L. Reininger, age 85, died on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, at St. Marys Hospital in Madison. He was born on April 3, 1920, in Sun Prairie and was the son of Frank and Josephine (Renz) Reininger. He married Ellen Theis on Jan. 16, 1944, at Sacred Hearts. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II from 1941 to 1945 and was a medic. He was a barber at Reininger's Barber Shop until his retirement in 1985. He also was a member of the American Legion Post No. 333 and served on the Sun Prairie Water and Light Board. He is survived by his wife; three children, Marie (Rick) North of Madison, Dale (Barb) Reininger of Sun Prairie and Jan (Jerry) Henrikson of Madison; four grandchildren, Joe and Erin Henrikson and Brad and Nick North; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Reininger of Sun Prairie. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jake and Jim. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at SACRED HEARTS OF JESUS AND MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 227 Columbus St., Sun Prairie, with Father Michael Radowicz presiding. Burial will be at Sacred Hearts cemetery in Sun Prairie, where military rites will be held. A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, at the TUSCHEN-NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 302 Columbus St., Sun Prairie and from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Wednesday. Renz, Irene E.

CROSS PLAINS - Irene E. Renz, age 72, passed away on Friday, Dec. 9, 2005, at her home after a long illness. She was born on May 17, 1933, in Waunakee, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Clemens) Hellenbrand. On Feb. 23, 1957, Irene married Eugene Renz in St. Johns Catholic Church in Waunakee. He preceded her in death on June 27, 2000. Before having children, Irene was employed at St. Marys Hospital as a nurses aide. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers, and also belonged to the American Legion Post 245 Auxiliary of Cross Plains. Irene had a deep faith, having attended church regularly, and enjoyed singing, conversing and joking with friends, but loved most of all spending time with and caring for her family. Irene is survived by five children, Barbara (friend Jim) McNabb of Madison, Judy (friend Dave) Redding of Waukesha, Ruth Renz of Cross Plains, Lucy Renz (fianc Eladio Perez) of Cross Plains and Robert (Sheryl) Renz of Madison; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three sisters, Dorothy Gerstenkorn and Theresa Payne of Madison and Janet Beckerjeck of Waunakee; and two brothers, Robert and Frankie Hellenbrand of Waunakee. In addition to her husband; she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bernard; a sister, Margie; and a son-in-law, Larry McNabb. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes St., Cross Plains, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, with Father Thomas Kelley presiding. Burial will be at St. Francis Xavier Catholic cemetery. Friends may call at the GUNDERSON CROSS PLAINS FUNERAL HOME, 2421 Church St., Cross Plains, on Monday, Dec. 12, 2005, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., with a Rosary at 4:30. Friends may also call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. We would like to extend a special thanks to the families of Lucy Renz and Janet Beckerjeck, Jeanne Breunig, Sister John Rose Acker and the staff of Hospice for all the loving care given Irene. Roddick, Jack

LANCASTER - Jack Roddick, age 89, of Lancaster, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at the Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. He was born Sept. 26, 1916, at home in Ellenboro Township, the son of Ora "Sandy" and Isabelle (Paulson) Roddick. On Dec. 24, 1941, he married Dorothy Smith at St. John's Lutheran Church in Madison. She preceded him in death on Aug. 28, 1994. Together Jack and Dorothy farmed on the Roddick family farm near Ellenboro, for more than 50 years. Jack was a quiet, reserved man who loved life on the farm. After retiring and moving to Lancaster in 1993, he enjoyed being outdoors and working in his yard. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Dennis; two brothers, Lawrence and Clarence Roddick; and his sister, Mildred Johnson. Jack is survived by his daughter, Diane (Bill) Harvey of Madison; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the SCHWARTZ FUNERAL HOME, Lancaster. Burial will be in the Hillside cemetery, Lancaster. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. The Schwartz Funeral Home, Lancaster, is serving the family.

Ruud, Gladys E.

STOUGHTON - Gladys E. Ruud, age 91, of Stoughton, passed away at Skaalen Home on Friday, Dec. 9, 2005. A Funeral service will be held for Gladys on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005 at 1 p.m. at SKAALEN HOME CHAPEL, 400 N. Morris St. in Stoughton, with the Rev. James Kosa presiding. Burial will follow at Riverside cemetery in Stoughton. A Visitation will be held at Skaalen Home Chapel on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Smith, Will Boyd, Sr.

MADISON - Will Boyd Smith, Sr., age 77, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at a local nursing home. He was born on June 19, 1928, in Cruger, Miss., to Will L. and Louise (Marshall) Smith. He attended public school in Mississippi and was very active in sports. In 1950, he was united in holy matrimony to Meckelin Devoe Anderson. To this union eight children were born. In 1952, he migrated to Madison with his wife and oldest child. He worked at the Lorraine Hotel and later went to Oscar Mayer where he retired after serving 39 years. He established the first traveling Black baseball team, which was called the Madison Blues. He also enjoyed hobbies such as cooking, fishing and listening to music. He was well known for his fried chicken, which he served at many church functions and other community events. He also loved to play with his grandchildren. At an early age he confessed his faith in Jesus Christ at the Garden Chapel Baptist Church in Mississippi, where he served as an usher. After moving to Madison, he joined the Second Baptist Church under the late Rev. Eugene Bailey. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Meckelin Devoe Smith; children, Annie Marie (Fred) Smith-Ingram, Will B. Jr. (Lisa), Darcy (John "Tommy") Moncrief, Jefferey (Cathy), Charmaine, Dwana and David (Tracy), all of Madison; 24 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Taylor "Smitty" (Helen) of Madison; sisters, Annie of Memphis, Tenn. and Edna "Clara" of Chicago, Ill.; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and special family friends, Ben Williams and Wanda Fullmore. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael "Mickey"; a brother, Ernest; sisters, Mildred, Susie, Gladys and Pearlie; and special friends, James Tookes and Gloria Fullmore. A Home-going service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, 2005, at the SECOND BAPTIST CHURCH, 4303 Britta Parkway, Madison, with Pastor Donald S. Moss officiating. Beers-Wells, Joshua T.

SAUK PRAIRIE - A wonderful heart stopped beating on the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, following an auto accident. Joshua was born on Sept. 26, 1980, in Madison, to Maureen Beers and Thomas Pekol Jr. Joshua attended Sauk Prairie schools and graduated from Sauk Prairie High School, where he was involved in football, hockey and wrestling. He was currently working with his family at Bob's Outlet, Sauk City. Joshua enjoyed snowmobiling, four-wheeling and working with cars. Survivors include his mother and step-father, Maureen and Guy Wells of North Freedom; father, Thomas Pekol Jr. of Louisiana; grandparents, Irene Beers of Verona, and Bob and Geri Wells of Sauk City; great-grandmother, Angela Semenko of Canada; aunt, Peggy Harris of Madison; uncles, Shaun (Lori) Wells of Sauk City, Brad (Shelley) Wells of Sauk City, Mark (Terri) Wells of Las Vegas, Nev., and Gene Wells of Las Vegas, Nev.; cousins, Ross and Gabrielle Harris, Grace, Emily, Travis, Lexi, Jake and Nick Wells, and Elizabeth Yazdani; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dwayne Beers. Dobratz, Marion E.

ARLINGTON - Marion E. Dobratz, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, surrounded by her family at the Lodi Good Samaritan Center. Marion, the daughter of Herman and Nettie (Schmidt) Manke, grew up on a farm in the Arlington area. She was a lifetime Arlington area resident. Marion graduated from Poynette High School and Columbia County Normal School, Columbus, Wis., and taught school for several years. On Sept. 21, 1940, Marion was united in marriage to Howard Dobratz and together owned and operated the Arlington Inn and later Doby's Grocery in Arlington. Howard died on Feb. 1, 1982. Marion also drove school bus for the Poynette School System for 24 years before retiring in 1987. She was a longtime member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Arlington. Marion was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed gardening, cooking, social activities, sewing and reading. She is survived by four children Joan (Jack) Anttonen of Littleton, Colo., William Dobratz of Poynette, James Dobratz of Arlington, and Judy Lesch of Madison; three granddaughters, Dr. Laura (David) Anttonen Dungan, Karen (Terry) Taylor and Ellie Lesch; three great-grandchildren, Lauren and Amanda Dungan and Tyler Dobratz; a brother, James (Rachel) Manke; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Herman Jr., Herbert and Ray Manke. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, at ST. PETER'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, Arlington, with the Rev. Dr. Marion Hendrickson officiating. Interment will be in the Arlington cemetery. Hodder, Kenneth A.

BELOIT - Kenneth A. Hodder-Martell, age 36, of Beloit, died on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, in his home. He was born on April, 6, 1969, in Beloit, the son of Charles and Dorothy Hodder Martell. Kenneth was a 1987 graduate of Beloit Memorial High School. He served in the U.S. Army. Kenneth loved to play pool at the Alarm Box and Turtle Tap. Survivors include his two children, Cody and Tiffany Hodder of Beloit; his mother and step-father, Dorothy and Clayton Jensen of Beloit; his father, Charles Martell; his two sisters, Wendy (Paul) Carlton and Christy (Cliff) Davis, both of Janesville; his grandparents, Marshall and Florabelle Bass; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, in DALEY-MURPHY-WISCH & ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, with the Rev. Larry Froemming officiating. Jacobson, Delbert LaVern "Jake"

LA CROSSE - Delbert LaVern "Jake" Jacobson, age 82, of La Crosse, formerly of West Salem, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at the Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center, with his family at his side. He was born on Oct. 28, 1923. in the township of Akan, Richland County, the son of Oluf and Borghild (Grenie) Jacobson. Delbert grew up in Blue River, and graduated from the Richland Center High School. He was united in marriage with Phyllis M. Robbins on Nov. 16, 1943. She preceded him in death on Oct. 25, 2002. Together, they made their homes in Five Points, Baraboo, La Crosse, Rice Lake and West Salem. Delbert's 35 year career with Erickson Bakeries started in Baraboo as a route salesman and led him to La Crosse and Rice Lake in bakery management. Along the way, he and Phyllis made many good friends. Delbert was active in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Baraboo as a founding member. He participated in many church and civic organizations. Delbert and Phyllis spent several years traveling and wintering in Florida. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, card playing, golf and wood carving. Family gatherings with his children and grandchildren were very special to him. Survivors include his three daughters, Dianne (James) Effinger of Prairie du Sac, Nancy (Timothy) Cummings of Baraboo, and Paula Hill of La Crosse; six grandchildren, Mike (Laura) Effinger, Kris (Glenn) Prechtel, Amy (Scott) Miller, Matt (Carrie) Cummings, Mandy (Nick) Dougherty and Brady Hill; seven great-grandchildren, Alec, Aaron, Zachery, Kyler, Shaylee, Lucas and Landon; two sisters, Mildred Harris of Casselberry, Fla., and Odessa (Leonard) Johnson of Moscow, Idaho; several nieces, nephews and other relatives along with many friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, at the FIVE POINTS LUTHERAN CHURCH. Pastor Larry Engel will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the services. The Pratt Funeral Service of Richland Center is assisting the family with their arrangements.

Murphy, Orville Michael

APPLETON - Orville M. Murphy, age 85, of Appleton, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, with his family at his side. Orville was born on Sept. 21, 1920, in Freedom, Wis., to the late Robert M. and Mary C. (Fox) Murphy. He married Germaine M. Calmes on June 30, 1943, at Sacred Heart Parish in Appleton. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage together. The marriage was blessed with five children, Michael (Marjorie) Murphy of Black Creek, Patrice (Frederick) Kranzusch of Appleton, Bonnie (Mark) Rabideau of Kaukauna, Kathy (John) Hanneken of Tempe, Ariz., and Brian (Kathy) Murphy of Appleton; his twelve grandchildren, Erik Kranzusch (fiance, Lynn Feutz), Kristin (Dan) Brellenthin, Robert Murphy, Sean Murphy, Ryan Murphy, Neal Rabideau, Keith Rabideau, Erin Hanneken, Kelly Hanneken, Patrick Murphy, Kyle Murphy and Tyler Murphy; his brothers and sister, Arlene Murphy-Gage of Appleton, Francis (Lois) Murphy of Appleton, Robert Murphy of Appleton; and many nieces and nephews. Orville was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Murphy of Orlando, Fla.; and his brother-in-law and childhood friend, Lawrence (Larry) Gage of Appleton. Orville had been a life-time member of the Appleton Elk's Club 337. Orville joined his mother and father in their business in 1946 and formed the corporation known as Murphy Construction Company. Orville became president of Murphy Construction Company at an early age. Under Orville's leadership Murphy Construction Company expanded and in 1988 merged all the companies together forming one company known as MCC, INC. Orville was the youngest man at the time to be elected to the Wisconsin Road Builders Association board of directors at age 28. He was a former president and on the board of directors of the Wisconsin Aggregate Association. He was a member and on the executive board of directors of the National Limestone Institute. He was a member and a former board of director of the Wisconsin Ready Mix Association. He was president and board member of the Black Creek Limestone Company. Orville was on the board of directors of Valley Ready Mix, Murphy Concrete Products, Schabo Materials, MRK Construction, Landwehr Materials and Inland Materials, Orlando, Fla. Orville was on the board of directors of the Valley Bank of Black Creek (M & I) and on the Advisory Committee for Fox Valley Technical College. He was a member, former president and board member of the Vilas County Improvement Company In recognition for his love of nature and work in the New London Nature Preserve, Orville received a lifetime membership. Orville loved the Northwoods of Wisconsin, especially Eagle River. There he enjoyed the beauty of nature and his summer home on Catfish Lake since 1951. It was the gathering place for all of his children, their spouses and the grandchildren. Many happy memories were made there. Orville and Germaine have wintered in Tempe, Ariz., since 1984. The Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1818 North McDonald St., Appleton, with Father Gerald Falk officiating. Friends may call at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, TRI-COUNTY CHAPEL, Menasha, on Sunday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and directly at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. There will a Parish Prayer and Scripture Service at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Reamer, Violet I.

MARSHALL - Violet I. Reamer, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on Sept. 4, 1917, to Carl and Louise (Nadler) Tews in the town of Portland. Later, they moved to the Marshall area and she attended the Phyburn and Deansville rural schools. She graduated from Columbus High School and then furthered her education by attending Columbia County Normal in Columbus and taught at Shady Lane School for three years. On Aug. 6, 1938, she married Glenn Reamer at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marshall. In 1953, she returned to teaching and taught at Oak Park School near Deerfield for 10 years. She furthered her education at the University of Wisconsin in Whitewater, receiving her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in the field of special education. She was one of four to be the first to graduate from the pilot program. She taught for 17 years in special education being employed by Dane County and the state of Wisconsin and worked in the Marshall School District. Many student teachers from the Whitewater program passed through her classroom doors. In 1975, she received the Vivian Pope Teacher Award in recognition of her distinguished contribution to handicapped children. Due to her health problems, she retired in 1980 but continued to tutor children in her home. She touched the lives of many children. She belonged to the Stoughton Retired Educators Association, serving as secretary for four years and president for two years. She was also a member of the Wisconsin Retired Educators Association. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church throughout her life. At one time, she served as President of The Young People's Society, sang in the choir, taught Vacation Bible School, Sunday School and also served as Superintendent of Sunday School and was a member of the Ladies Aide Organization. She enjoyed music and played the clarinet in high school and in the Marshall Village Band. At home, she liked to play the organ for her own pleasure. Her big past time was making beautiful quilts for all the family and other special projects. Survivors include her daughter, Ramona (Lawrence) Maly of Sun Prairie; two sons, Wayne (Patricia) Reamer and Rodell (Carol) Reamer, both of Marshall; seven grandchildren, Michael (Chris) Maly, Daniel (Sharyn) Maly, Keith (Monica) Reamer, Karen (John) Waddell, Kendra (Dave) Ward, Scott Reamer and Robyn (Robert) Billig; 12 great-grandchildren, Morgan and Logan Maly, Amanda and Chase Maly, Michael, Melinda and Madeline Waddell, Seth and Alison Reamer, Kaleb, Katelyn and Kaludia Ward; a sister, Mildred Kindschi of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Gert Tews of Watertown, Betty (Charles) Hahn of Marshall, Iris Reamer of Sun Prairie and Lois Reamer of Dorchester; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Reamer; her parents; and a brother, Vernon Tews. Funeral services will be on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, at 11 a.m. at ST PAUL'S LUTHERAN CHURCH in Marshall with Pastor Mark Schoeneck officiating. Burial will be in Medina cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday after 10 a.m. A special thank you to family and friends for cards and visits, Dr. Kraus and staff, Pastor Schoeneck, HospiceCare Center and staff and to Georgia Severson.
