Winecke, Emma A.

LOGANVILLE - Emma A. Winecke, age 101, of Loganville died on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at the Reedsburg Area Senior Life Center. She was born on May 16, 1904 in the town of Westfield, Sauk County, daughter of Fred and Anna (Hahn) Reinecke. On April 10, 1931, she was married to Edward E. Winecke. Emma enjoyed reading and gardening. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Survivors include her son-in-law, Ruben Albers of Loganville; two grandchildren, Steven Albers of Loganville, and Susan (Dan) Lehman of Reedsburg; two great- grandsons, Bryan and Derek Lehman; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, on May 20, 1973; her daughter, LeOra Albers, on Sept. 16, 1999; three brothers, Fred, Albert and Oscar Reinecke; and seven sisters, Emelie Burmester, Anna Reinecke, Wilhelmina Reinecke, Theresa Repka, Alice Burmester, Leona Schwenkhoff and Alvina Schwenkhoff. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, at ST. PETER'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, Loganville, with Pastor Christopher Miller officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. There will be a visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Peter's Lutheran Church would be appreciated. The Hoof Funeral Home, Reedsburg, is serving the family.

Brothers, Josephine E.

MADISON - Josephine "Jo" Elizabeth Brothers, age 91, died on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at University Hospital in Madison. She was born on Dec. 3, 1914, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Eistachius and Anna (Bortscheller) Borter. She was raised in Chicago, a lumber camp in Phelps, a cattle ranch in Shawmut, Montana, and a farm in Michigan. She married Alva Blair Johnston in Michigan in 1935. They had three daughters, Barbara, Nancy, and Jenny. She worked in the factories in Chicago during World War II. She later married Benjamin Franklin Brothers in Chicago in 1946. They had three children, Kathleen, Rosemary and Benjamin. Jo and Ben farmed for 30 years in Dane County, and when they lived near Middleton, she delivered eggs to the west side of Madison, where she was known as "the egg lady." They moved into Madison in 1973, and Jo worked for the Dept. of Revenue for 10 years until retiring. They traveled a lot after retiring and visited every state in the lower 48, and parts of Canada. They were both active in the Westside Coalition for many years. Jo enjoyed painting, ceramics and stitchery until losing most of her eyesight in her 80's. Jo is survived by her children, Barbara (Lloyd) Melton of Cambridge, Nancy Joyce of Windsor, Jenny Browning of Neillsville, Rosemary Brothers of Madison, and Benjamin Brothers of North Glenn, Col.; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; eight great great-grandchildren; a sister, MaryAnn (Bob) Costa of Los Angeles, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Isa Larmon of Marshfield, Rose (Earl) Chubb of Granton, and Carol Bartlett of California; and brother-in-law, Jim (Delores) Brothers of Camano Island, Wash. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Brothers in 1998; her daughter, Kathleen Brothers in 1949; a great-grandson, Caleb Burns; two brothers, Paul (Bernice) Davis and Alfred (Irene) Davis; several brothers and sisters-in-law; and several cousins in the Chicago area. Services will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at noon, with Pastor James Iliff presiding. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Side Senior Center or Middleton Community Church, 645 Schewe Road. Mom was a wonderful mother and had a long and interesting life. We would like to thank all the caretakers at the Willows Rehabilitation Center in Sun Prairie and the Harbor Suites in DeForest, for the wonderful care they gave her. FITCHBURG - Beatrice J. Bull, age 81, died on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at her home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CHURCH, 405 S. Henning, Gordon L.

NEW GLARUS - Gordon Lyle Henning, age 84, of New Glarus, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at the Monroe Clinic Hospital in Monroe. Gordon was born on Jan. 30, 1922, and raised in New Glarus by his parents, Walter and Elisabeth (Ammon) Henning along with three sisters. He attended New Glarus schools and graduated from New Glarus High School in 1940. On Jan. 11, 1943, he entered the U.S. Army and served as an MP with the 8th Army Corps in Europe with the headquarters' staff. He participated in the Campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was particularly proud to have served in the Battle of the Bulge and the Liberation of Bechenwald Prison Camp. On Jan. 29, 1950, he was united in marriage to the former Virginia E. Vamstad at the Blanchardville Lutheran Church. Gordon worked at New Glarus Hardware and retired as Superintendent of the New Glarus Municipal Light and Water in 1987. He was a life long member of the Swiss United Church of Christ, New Glarus and served on the church Consistory for many years. Gordon was involved in many community organizations and local activities including, the New Glarus School Board, Trustee of the Village of New Glarus, and the New Glarus Fire Department of which he retired after many years of service. Gordon also enjoyed bowling league and poker club. He is survived by three sons, William (Diane) Henning of Dubuque, Iowa, Jack (Kelly) Henning of New Glarus, and Andrew (Connie) Henning of Monticello; four grandchildren, Lori, Sara, Cole and Alex; brothers-in-law, John Schoonenberg, Julian Horgan, Tracy Robb, and James Clark; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Clark and Jean Vamstad; and nieces and nephews. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia Vamstad Henning; sisters, Lone Schoonenberg, Dorothy Horgan, and Betsy Robb. The family would like to thank Randa Gabel for her help and care of Gordy during the last years. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, at the SWISS UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, New Glarus, with the Rev. Marlea Waber, the Rev. Mary Gafner, and Pastor Patty Marty officiating. Burial will be in the Swiss Church cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, at the ZENTNER-BEAL FUNERAL HOME, 29 6th Ave, New Glarus. A memorial fund has been established in his memory.

Amenda, Joseph "Mac"

DARLINGTON - Joseph "Mac" Amenda, age 81 of Darlington, died unexpectedly on Saturday, April 22, 2006, at his home. He was the son of Henry F. and Julia (MacManus) Amenda. He graduated from UW-Platteville and taught school for a short time, and then graduated from UW-Madison Law School. He practiced law in Darlington thereafter until his retirement. He is survived by his brother, Sylvan F. Amenda of Darlington; his sister, Sister Juliana Amenda of Sinsinawa; and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. A Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2006, at HOLY ROSARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 104 E. Bedward, Richard "Dick"

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN - Richard "Dick" Bedward, age 92, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Tuesday, Apr. 25, 2006, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 19, 1913, in Wyalusing Township, son of Edward and Harriett (Gilkes) Bedward. He married Mildred Seely on Dec. 5, 1932 in Lancaster. She preceded him in death after 70 years of marriage on Jan. 29, 2003. He farmed until 1964 and drove school bus from 1951 to 1964. He worked at Campion Jesuit High School from 1964 to 1975, when the school closed. He later worked at the Oasis Gas Station, Bridgeport, from 1976 to 1977 when he retired. He is survived by three daughters, Janice (Ed) Mell of Sun Prairie, Bernice (Ivan) Norton of Monona, and Karen (Jim) Jelinek of Madison; three sons, Roger (Rocile) of Cary, Ill., , Lloyd (Joanne) of Prairie du Chien, and Lyle (Margaret) of Blue River; a sister Florence Gaylor of Fennimore; 33 grandchildren; 40 great- grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; five brothers, Everett, Paul, Willie, Lee and George; along with six sisters, Emily, Jenny, Catherine, Mattie, Bessie and Sadie. Funeral services will be on Friday, April 28, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, Prairie du Chien, with the Rev. Stuart Allen officiating. Burial will be in the Brodtville cemetery, Patch Grove. Friends may call on Thursday, April 27, 2006, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the GARRITY FUNERAL HOME, Prairie du Chien, and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

Chism, Sheryl "Sherry"

MADISON - Sheryl "Sherry" Chism, age 51, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2006, at home, surrounded by her loving family. A memorial service will be held at NEW LIFE CHRISTIAN CHURCH, 7564 Cottage Grove Road, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2006, with the Rev. Rob Carlson presiding. Cornelius, Franklin Leroy "Lee"

Verona - Franklin Leroy "Lee" Cornelius died on Monday, April 24, 2006. Lee was born on Oct. 2, 1923, in Wheaton, Ill., the son of Beulah (Cremer) and Ira Cornelius. He grew up in Harvard, Ill. with his brothers, Willard and Kenneth, and his sisters, Mary and Shirley. In 1943 he joined his two older brothers by enlisting in the military, serving in the 7th Air Force until Dec. 1945 and attaining the rank of first sergeant. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean Crisis for an additional year. Lee married Mary Margaret Dick on Feb. 21, 1948, and they had four beautiful daughters; Laurie, Mary Lee, Heather and Hollie. After living in Madison for several years, Lee and Mary moved the family to Verona in 1959. The girls grew up there while Lee worked in the building materials industry for Wood Conversion Company. The family attended Westminster Presbyterian Church throughout those years. In 1974 the family moved to Oswego, Ill. and later Peoria, Ill. where they lived until 1997. While in Peoria they were members of First Presbyterian Church. Lee was also a Past Master of Masonic Lodge No. 1112 in Peoria. In 1997, they returned to Verona to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Lee enjoyed woodworking, a good game of pinochle, and his "world champion" Cubs. He loved the open road and so Mary and the girls got to know the country on countless camping trips. He was proud of what he did, whether it was his service to his country or the job he held. Most of all he loved and cherished his wife and family. He was a good husband, father and he was a good man. Lee is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Laurie (Brad) McDowell of Verona, Mary Lee (Darryl) Miller of Centennial, Colo., Heather (David) Van Natta of Mount Horeb and Hollie (Paul) Radomski of Brainerd, Minn.; grandchildren, Ryan (Christine Blaisdell) McDowell and Ross McDowell, Marcail and Jake Miller and Claire and Wiley Radomski; a sister, Shirley Seagren; and many nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers; and a sister, Mary. A funeral service will be held at JOYCE-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 118 N. Franklin St., Verona, on Saturday, April 29, 2006, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mary Jean Bartholomew officiating. Burial will follow at Verona cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. The family would especially like to thank the staff of Alterra Clare Bridge Memory Care Residence for their warm and attentive care over the last three years. Their patience, understanding and genuine concern made all the difference at the end of Lee's life. Gratitude also goes out to Elder Care, whose compassion and professionalism in working with Lee are sincerely appreciated. Grimm, Henry G.

MADISON - Henry G. Grimm, age 86, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2006, at his home. He was born on May 12, 1919, in Madison, the son of Henry and Myrtle (White) Grimm. Henry was a World War II veteran and served in the "mighty" eighth air force. He was a past president of Grimm Book Bindery, Inc., where he continued to work up until shortly before his death. Henry has a life-long love of machinery and cars. Henry was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He loved and enjoyed his family very much. Henry is survived by his three sons, Paul (Patricia), William (Natasha) and Karl; two daughters, Judy (Stuart) Stair and Mary (Randy) Marsh; grandchildren, Russell (Stacey) Shurpit, Kim (Chris) Wachter, Nicholas Marsh, Mary Beth Grimm, Julia Drazhzhina, Colin Stair and Serafima Grimm; great-grandchildren, Josie Bednarek, Emery Shurpit, Emily Wachter and Brendan Wachter. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Louise; sister, Elizabeth Bormett; and a brother, John. Hilgendorf, Dorothy Louise "Becky"

MADISON - Dorothy Louise "Becky" Hilgendorf passed away in her sleep on Tuesday April 25, 2006. Becky was born on Aug. 10, 1922, in Scranton, Pa., the daughter of Jack and Helen (Moxley) Moredock. She graduated from Scranton Business College and met her husband, Dan, just before World War II. They were married on April 10, 1943. After the war, they raised their family on the East Coast, and finally settled in Madison in 1964. She was an avid mystery reader and puzzle maven. After the children were grown they traveled extensively world wide and Becky loved the people even more than the sights. In her later years, she enjoyed Wisconsin road trips especially to Door County and Horicon Marsh. She is survived by her husband, Daniel D. Hilgendorf of Madison; two children, Susan C. Hilgendorf of Cincinnati, Ohio, and David (Donna) Hilgendorf of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Eric, Brittany and Sara. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. Friends may greet the family from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday.
