Adams, Michael G. "Rabbit" Sr.

STOUGHTON - Michael G. "Rabbit" Adams Sr., age 62, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, from complications of Lou Gehrig's disease. He was born on Dec. 15, 1943. How does one put to words that which you do not wish to write? In the end we must all face the walk that my father has taken, but find solace that he did not walk alone. In his time, he touched many and was loved by many more. His accomplishments were often too great to list, but in the end he found more happiness from close friends and good times. He was last to brag about his past, but the first to help his fellow brother in need. He once said that in the end if he could count on one hand the number of good friends he had, he would have lived a successful life. My wish, as his son, is that he could have known how many people he actually touched with his friendship, his smile and his humor. We all hurt together, from our racing family, his biological family, and the many people that knew him. He found peace in the company of others, the sounds of open wheel racing and blues music. He served our country bravely in Germany, and piloted several different midgets during his long racing career. A dedicated worker for many companies and a compassionate friend, he will forever be missed. Michael is survived by his son, Michael; his daughter, Melissa; his loving friend, Donna Dixon; four sisters, Margaret (Thomas) Hartigan, Dorothy Albert, Bernice (Larry) Thonilin and Mary Ann Dennis; a grandson, Nathan Ditton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret; his father, Michael; and two brothers-in-law, Joseph Albert and Don Dennis. As per his wishes, no services or funeral will be held. A celebration of his life is being planned for Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at SONNY'S, 151 N. Main St., Stoughton, his home away from home, also with a celebration in Illinois, to be announced at a later date. His long struggle has now passed.
