SUN PRAIRIE - Elizabeth P. "Betty" Floyd, age 84 passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at the HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2008, at 4 p.m. at the CRESS FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL in Sun Prairie with a time of gathering from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Fortune, Barbara J.

MADISON - Barbara J. Fortune, age 48, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at HospiceCare of Madison following a courageous battle with cancer. Barb was born in Milwaukee to Joseph F. and Virginia D. Fortune. Barb is survived by her soulmate, Dave (Skeeter) Brouillet; her daughter, Marquita and son, Leon; two grandchildren; her parents, Joe and Genie Fortune; her sister, Leslie (Tom) Reinhart; brothers, Marc (Jackie), Christopher and Joel; and her very dear friend, Neal Wysocki. She was preceded in death by her sister, Janis (Frank) Turnham. Visitation will be held at OLBRICH GARDENS on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. with a memorial service at 5 p.m. A memorial fund has been established in her name at the HospiceCare Foundation Inc. of Madison. Special thanks to the caring staff of HospiceCare in Fitchburg, WI.

Greimel, Mitchell K.

PRAIRIE DU SAC - Mitchell Kent Greimel, age 46, died Friday June 6, 2008, at his home. He was born on Feb. 6, 1962, in Baraboo, Wis., the son of John Greimel and Marilyn Jones. Mitchell attended Sauk Prairie schools and was employed by the Electricians Local No. 159 as a journeyman wireman. Mitchell enjoyed his son, Tyler, being among people, telling jokes, cooking and entertaining, hiking and mushroom hunting, music, vinyl records, his guitar and volunteering at St. Vincent De Paul. He is survived by his beloved son, Tyler; his faithful Boston Terrier, "Gizmo"; his mother, Marilyn Greimel Hoelzlhammer; his stepfather, John Hoelzlhammer; two brothers, Michael and Mark (Luisa); a sister, Jennifer (Douglas) Gjertson; three nieces and three nephews; and further survived by other relatives and many special and wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his father, John Greimel. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at CONCORDIA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, Prairie du Sac with Pastor Jeff Virchow officiating. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Herold, L. Jane

DEFOREST - L. Jane Herold, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice Center, with her loving family around her, Jane Herold became an angel at the age of 80 at 10:59 p.m. on June 4, 2008. Mrs. Herold was born the eighth child out of nine, on April 17, 1928 in Watertown, Wis., the daughter of Orville and Helen (Boeldt) Harshbarger. She was a graduate of Watertown High School, class of 1946. Jane married Edward Herold on May 3, 1947, and later moved to Rockford, Ill. Jane worked a few years at F.W. Means Company before going to Barber-Colman/Reed Chatwood for 27 years. Besides her three children, two grandchildren and a great-grandson, Jane was an avid reader. She loved western stories and had a nice collection. Jane also was an excellent embroider and worked on pillow cases, dollies and shirts whenever she could. In the fall she loved to can green beans, tomatoes and make grape jelly. Ed and Jane retired to Necedah, Wis. to their lake front home on the Wisconsin River. They spent many enjoyable years together there, before moving to DeForest, Wis. to reside with their daughter and son-in-law, Lu Ann and Roger Guffey. Jane is survived by her three children, Craig (Yana) Herold of Jacksonville, N.C., Lu Ann (Roger) Guffey of DeForest, Wis., and Steven (Gretchen) Herold of Waynesville, Mo.; two grandchildren, Matthew (Elizabeth) Guffey of Madison, Wis. and Melissa (Caleb) Drolshagen of Sun Prairie, Wis.; a great-grandson, Caleb Drolshagen Jr.; and a sister, Dorothy Schneider of Watertown, Wis. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and close friends. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Herold (Dec. 23, 2006), her parents, Orville and Helen Harshbarger; four brothers, Arlando, Raymond, Leodis and Eugene; and two sisters, Marcella Harshbarger and Lorraine Lieman. Funeral services will be held at CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 220 South Main Street, DeForest, on Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jerry A. Olson officiating. Burial will follow at Norway Grove cemetery in DeForest. A visitation will be held at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 6924 Lake Road, DeForest, on Monday, June 9, 2008, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at church on Tuesday, June 10, 2008, from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Jallings, Elizabeth Ann Franklin

MADISON - Next weekend friends and family will celebrate the long and marvelous life of Elizabeth Ann Franklin Jallings, who passed away on April 5, 2008, at the age of 91. Betty will be remembered with love and joy on Saturday, June 14, 2008, at 2 p.m. in the GRAND HALL at MERITER RETIREMENT. Betty is survived by her husband of nearly 68 years, Jack; children, Susan Daniel, Nancy Walsh, Rebecca Jallings, and Jonathan Jallings; 12 grandchildren, Peter Daniel (Marcia) and family, Jennifer Daniel Duckering (Brent) and family, Kerri McCabe (Andrew) and family, Jessica Jallings Gomez (Brian) and family, Kelly Walsh, Marissa Walsh, Joshua Walsh and Eric Walsh, Stacy Sandler and family, Geoffrey Sandler (Karen) and family, Claire Sandler (Michael Kramer) and family, Lili Sandler (Zeb Page) and family; dear friends, Mary and Ramona Ruud and family; as well as many extended family members and countless friends. Betty's life can best be described by this Mahatma Gandhi quote: "I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again." Mineard, Charles "Chuck"

LODI - Charles "Chuck" Mineard, age 61, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 2, 2008, at his home. He was born on July 15, 1946, and had served in the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam. Chuck was employed at D and S Dental Lab in Waunakee and at Gentle Dental in Lodi. He is survived by his wife, Ramona Mineard; five children, Kathleen (Erich) Huelsemann, Corey and Casey Mineard, and Jason (Tamara) and Steven (Laura) Duffy; five grandchildren; a brother; and his best buddy Max. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; his grandparents; and his faithful companion Rusty. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at the HAMRE FUNERAL HOME in Lodi. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until the service.

Minnick, Gerald William (Bill)

MADISON - Bill Minnick was born on June 5, 1921, in Widnoon, Pa. to Randall and Etta (Chaney) Minnick. He was the fifth child of eight. Last August, he learned he had lung cancer. His daughter moved in with him so he could stay at home while fighting his cancer. He died on his 87th birthday, June 5, 2008. He married the love of his life and soul mate, Alice Anna Nordness on June 28, 1945. When Alice developed Alzheimer's, Bill was her care taker for five years. After she was in a nursing home, he visited her every day without failure. When he was declared legally blind from macular degeneration in 2006, his many friends and neighbors at Prairie Park Senior Apartments made sure that Bill saw Alice every day. They were to celebrate their 63rd anniversary this June 28th. He was a staff sergeant in the Army Air Force during World War II and was honorably discharged from his military service on April 4, 1946. After Bill was discharged from Fort Bragg, N.C., Bill and Alice settled in Madison. Bill with his wife and later his son and daughter-in-law ran Minnick's Top Hat Restaurant for 35 years from 1953 to 1988. Prior to purchasing the Top Hat, Bill was the manager of the Elks Club Dining Room. Bill and Alice were named "Restaurateurs of the Year" in 1976. Bill was very civic-minded. The Top Hat donated food to Meals on Wheels and Food Pantries. He made donations to the Middleton Senior Citizen Center. He raised money for the Middleton Pool fund through a personal donation, by providing airplane flights over Middleton and Madison, and by organizing a "Win an Airplane" contest through the Sertoma Club. Bill was given special recognition for his Service to Mankind by receiving a Life membership in Sertoma International in the late 1970s. Bill was always happy and enjoyed his many friends; he loved his wife and children and liked nothing better than spending time with his family. His second love after his family was flying. He was a big sports fan and an avid walker, walking 8 to 10 miles a day. He is survived by his wife, Alice; his daughter, Saundra Schroud; his son, Gerald W. Minnick II; his daughter-in-law, Maureen; his three sisters, Delphine Savona, Delta Dawson and Olive Painter; his brother, Raymond Minnick; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; and three brothers, John, George and Silas.
The family wants to give a special "Thank You" to each and every person at Hospice for their care, understanding, and comfort.

Murley, George S.

MADISON - George S. Murley, age 85, died Friday, June 6, 2008, in his home. He was born October 16, 1922, in Richland County, the son of Randall and Florence (Sprecher) Murley. Prior to his retirement, George spent many years operating his dairy farm and later became known for the "Prized Herfords" he raised. He was a member of Lake Edge United Church of Christ, a Veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army and a member of the Masonic Temple. He enjoyed reading in his spare time. Over the past few years, George's most important time was spent with "Meg" his dog and "Honey" his horse. On Dec. 27, 1949, in Boaz, Wis., George was united in marriage with Beryl Carter who preceded him in death on Nov. 17, 2000. Survivors include a daughter, Ann (Bob) Horstmeyer of McFarland; a grandson, Bill Horstmeyer; three great grandchildren, Tyler, Shane and Alex; and a brother, Randall S. Murley of California. He was preceded in death by his wife; and parents. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10 at the CRESS FUNERAL HOME where military honors will be accorded at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to HospiceCare, Inc. Ann sends a special "thank you" to her dad's neighbors, Dave Schneider (his caregiver) and HospiceCare for the friendship and care they gave George.

Nelson, Duane O.

AVOCA - Duane O. Nelson, age 69 of Avoca, made his passage into the light surrounded by family and close friends, including Kenpo Sogyal of Varanasi, India and Dr. Yangbum Gyal of the Medicine Buddha Healing Center. Duane's life will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on July 13, 2008, at the MAHAYARIA DHARMA CENTER, 6593 Clyde Road, Spring Green. A full notice will appear at a later date.

O'Reilly, Ruth Lowe

SUN PRAIRIE - Ruth Lowe O'Reilly, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2008. She was born on May 17, 1917, in Palmer, Mass., daughter of Everett Clinton Balcom Sr. and Isabel Broadfoot Balcom. Ruth attended school in Providence, R.I. She married William Bryson Lowe and moved to New York City where she worked as a buyer for Radio City Music Hall for 10 years and later retired from Chemical Bank after 15 years of service. Ruth was an active member of All Saints' Memorial Church in Providence, R.I., and for the past five years a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Sun Prairie. Ruth served as Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Parthenon University and Rainbow Matinee Chapters, New York. She is survived by her sister, Frances Shea of Lincoln, R.I.; daughter, Patricia Manly of Allentown, Pa.; her three granddaughters, Donna (James) Manly Pankratz of Madison, Wis., Lynn (Richard) Manly Kubinec of Bethlehem, Pa., and Rebecca (Adam) Fenton of New York City; five great-grandchildren, Michael Pankratz, Anthony Manly, Alex Kubinec, Jack Kubinec, and Seth Fenton; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her husbands, William Bryson Lowe and Patrick J. O'Reilly; her sister, Isabel (Sara) Angell; and her three brothers, Everett C. Balcom Jr., Stewart L. Balcom, and Robert R. Balcom. Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Special thanks to the extraordinary care and support of Dr. Andrew Oakas and Dr. David Bryce who enhanced the quality of Ruth's later years and made it possible for her to travel to Rhode Island, New York and Pennsylvania last November. Also for the kindness and support of the staff at Meadowmere Assisted Living Apartments, South Madison Coalition of the Elderly, Meriter Hospital and Nazareth House. Memorial contributions may be made in Ruth's name to Good Shepherd Episcopal Church of Sun Prairie or All Saints' Memorial Church of Providence where she received warm and loving guidance from Father Mike Tess, Father Jim Bocchino, Deacon Rick Whitt and other members of their congregations.
