MADISON/ SUN PRAIRIE - Darlene Ann Good, age 80, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2008, at HospiceCare Center. She was born on Nov. 8, 1927, the daughter of Henry A. and Ann C. (Midthun) Johnson. She graduated from Madison East High School in 1945. Darlene married Gerald F. Good on July 10, 1948. She loved dancing, sewing, traveling, boating, golfing, and bowling. Darlene devoted herself to caring for her husband and family. She loved lunching with her special group of friends on a regular basis. Darlene was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Starlight Chapter and St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Monona. She is survived by her children, Jim (Francie) Good of Dubuque, Iowa, Debbie (Dean) Ehlers of Sturgeon Bay, and Robin (Arthur Schlosser) Good of Monona; five grandchildren, Gerald J. Good, David (Cheryl) Ehlers, Chrissy Ehlers, James J. Wilson, and Simon Schlosser; brother, Noel A. (Barbara) Johnson of Cottage Grove; and sister-in-law, Janet Johnson of Sun Prairie. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald in 2002; grandson, Mark in 2004; and brother, Harold in 2007. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Nick Upthall presiding. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Hughes, Ruth Jane

MADISON - Ruth Jane Hughes, age 82, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2008, at St. Mary's Care Center. She was born Nov. 13, 1925, in Madison. Ruth graduated from Belleville High School in 1943, and married James Hughes on Feb. 19, 1944. She worked for the state of Wisconsin more than 30 years, was a member of the Madison Women's Club and was the Vice President for the Southside Men and Women's Club. She is survived by her children, Mary Jane (Daniel) Steinhofer, Bill (Jeri) Hughes, and Michael (Michelle) Hughes; daughters-in-law, Joyce Hughes and Elaine Hughes; sister, Lowis Ehman; 15 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James; and sons, James Jr. and George. A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at ST. MARK'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 605 Spruce St., Madison. Burial will follow at Forest Hill cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Care Center or the Kidney Foundation.

Kowalski, Donald J.

HIGHLAND - Donald J. Kowalski, age 73, of Highland, passed away at his home on Monday, June 30, 2008, following an apparent heart attack. Donald was born on March 27, 1935, in Chicago, Ill., to Annette Kowalski. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 until his discharge in 1964. Donald married the former Angeline LaFlash on Nov. 23, 1970, in Dodgeville, and the couple resided in Highland their entire married lives. Donald worked as a heavy machine operator for many years for Al's Trucking and Rule Construction, but during his retirement he spent many days cutting and collecting firewood. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved many activities including hunting and fishing. His love for animals was shown in the pets he owned and feeding the birds and squirrels year round. He was preceded in death by his mother; his granddaughter, Miranda Galen; two great-grandsons, Jason Galen and Dillon Starnes; and a brother, Steven Kowalski. Donald is survived by, his wife, Angeline of Highland; his son, Rocky (Bonnie) Starnes of Lone Rock; three daughters, Annette Starnes of Prairie du Chien, Bambi (Dan) Welsh of Highland, and Tawana (Jim Wienkes of Dike, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; his brother, Ted (Florence) Kowalski; his sister, Mary Manage; his sister-in-law, Jeanette Kowalski; as well as many other family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at the MCGUIRE-PETERSON-HOUCK FUNERAL HOME, Highland. Father Kenneth J. Frisch will officiate with burial in Highland cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Moll, Melody Lee (McCallum)

SUN PRAIRIE - Our precious Melody Lee (McCallum) Moll, age 37, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, June 29, 2008, after a long, courageous battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by many close family members and friends. Melody was born on July 14, 1970, in Madison, the daughter of Neil and Patricia McCallum. She graduated from Sun Prairie High School in 1988, and was employed with the state of Wisconsin, Department of Transportation since 1990. Melody was a lifetime member of Luther Memorial Church. She and John Moll were joined in marriage on Nov. 7, 1992. They were blessed with two beautiful children, Neil John, age 13, and Rachel Patricia, age 9. Melody had a tremendous zest for life and a contagious smile. She had a deep love for her family and friends, which stemmed from her passion for life itself. Melody was a dedicated advocate for breast cancer awareness and research, participating in numerous functions, conventions and fund raisers, in the hope of finding a cure. She knew what was important in life and she lived each day to the fullest. In addition to her husband and children, Melody is survived by her beloved parents, Neil and Patricia McCallum of Madison; siblings, Paul, David, Brenda, Nancy, and Cindy; a loving aunt, Doris; and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; uncles, George McCallum and John Kaltenberg; an aunt, Betty Kinkel; and a cousin, Kristi Kaltenberg. Funeral services will be held at LUTHER MEMORIAL CHURCH, 1021 University Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2008, with the Rev. Brad Pohlman presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. It was Melody's request that memorial contributions be sent to Summit Credit Union for educational trust funds that have been set up for her children. Melody's family would like to thank staff at Dean's Oncology Department for all of their loving care.
Though her smile is gone forever, And her hands we cannot touch, Still we have so many memories of the one we love so much. Her memory is our keepsake, with which we'll never part. God has her in His keeping, we have her in our hearts.

Nealis, Shannon Michael

NEW GLARUS - Shannon Michael Nealis, age 41, died on Sunday, June 29, 2008, as a result of a motorcycle accident in LaCrosse. He was born on Oct. 2, 1966, in Marshfield, the son of Perry and Karen Holseth Nealis. Shannon was a 1984 graduate of Markesan High School and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1989, with a B.S. in Rehab Psychology. He married Sally Peterson on July 10, 1993, at their home in Argyle. Shannon worked most recently as a health benefits specialist for Klein Insurance. He previously worked for Green and Lafayette County Human Services. He was a member of the New Glarus Fire Department, Wilhelm Tell Guild, and the Wisconsin Association of Health Underwriters, where he was vice chair of the legislative committee. One of his passions was "running" his hunting club, Star Valley Birds and Bucks, which he enjoyed with his family and friends. Shannon enjoyed being a kids' basketball and soccer coach, golfing, hunting, and fishing. Shannon was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. Shannon is survived by his wife, Sally Nealis of New Glarus; children, Taylor and Alexandra; his mother, Karen Holseth-Broekema and stepfather, Victor Broekema of Neshkoro; stepmother, Kathy Nealis of Madison; brothers, Sam Broekema of New York City and Dave Broekema of Tokyo, Japan; sister, Wendy Broekema-Coombs and family of Verona; mother and father-in-law, Dorothy and Raphael Peterson of Blanchardville; and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Perry Nealis, in 2002; maternal grandparents; and paternal grandparents. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at the SWISS UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 18 5th Ave., New Glarus, with the Rev. Gene Talley and the Rev. Ronald Nybroten officiating, with burial in the Swiss Church cemetery, New Glarus. Relatives and friends may call after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at the SWISS UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 18 5th Ave., New Glarus. A memorial fund in memory of Shannon has been established. The Zentner-Beal Funeral Home of New Glarus is serving the family.

Nottestad, Eileen M. Johnson

FORT ATKINSON/ MADISON - Eileen M. Johnson Nottestad, age 89, of Fort Atkinson/ Madison, began her much earned Eternal Rest on Sunday, June 29, 2008. She died as she lived, with grace and dignity. Eileen was born on Dec. 18, 1918, in Albion Township to Albert and Nora (Dalby) Johnson, with her childhood spent on the family farm during the Great Depression. She learned many life lessons during those difficult years, and also spent many happy hours with her sisters and brothers. Eileen attended Fort Atkinson High School and graduated in 1936. She then worked at several jobs until meeting her partner in life Earl O. Nottestad. They shared 48 wonderful eventful years until his untimely death in 1989. Earl and Eileen built their rural home near Fort Atkinson in 1952, and together with much love and patience they raised three active children who thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and country living. Eileen and Earl were well known for their gardening skills, and every summer they generously gave of their produce and flowers. Many of their flowers adorned Fort Atkinson High School graduations and decorated Julie's outdoor wedding. Eileen gave willingly of herself to any cause or person in need, and was an active volunteer for Friedens United Church of Christ and many community programs including Meals on Wheels and the Food Pantry. She enjoyed traveling to visit her grandchildren, and was a charter member of the Curtis Mill Friendly Neighbor Club, gaining many friends for life. Eileen leaves behind to mourn: her traveling companion, friend, confidant and daughter, Julie Nottestad (David Henry); her special daughter-in-law, Jill Nottestad; friend, Ida Hisel; her grandchildren that she was so very proud of, Troy (Andrea), Ryan (Michelle), Nick (Amy), Brad (Allison) Daniel (Debbie Frigard), and Andrew (Sandra) Nottestad; her great-grandchildren, who gave her so much joy in her later years, Ryan, Marie, Lauren, Ashlin, Lilly, Madison, Landon, and Delaney Nottestad; sisters, Evelyn Anderson and Ruth (Robert) Olson; sisters-in-law, Geraldine (Dan) Trieloff, Irene (Paul) Nelson, Gloria (Rudy) Chapko, Beverly Nottestad, and Arlene Johnson; brother-in-law, Warren Jarlsberg; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law; husband, Earl; her two wonderful and beloved sons, Richard and Gary; her brothers, Norris and Robert Johnson; and sisters, Lorraine Thorstad and Lois Coffman. Eileen remained grateful to the end for the compassionate care given her by medical personnel too numerous to mention, and the staff at St. Mary's Care Center for their exceptional vigilance. A special thanks to Mary Lou for her frequent visits encouragement and flowers, to Kris for advice and kind words on how to handle this difficult journey, Pastor Terese for spiritual guidance, and everyone who remembered Eileen with phone calls, cards, visits, and prayers. A service will be held at noon on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at FRIEDENS UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST in Fort Atkinson, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery, Fort Atkinson. The time has come for all of us to say good bye. As difficult as this has been Mom, may God grant you peace, serenity, and may He hold you in the palm of His hand forever. Memorials can be made in loving memory of Eileen to Friedens United Church of Christ, 108 Milwaukee Ave., Fort Atkinson, WI 53538. Nitardy Funeral Home, Fort Atkinson, is assisting the family.

Probst, Eleanor "Lynn"

MADISON - Eleanor "Lynn" Probst, age 81, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2008. Lynn was born on July 6, 1926, in Wallingford, Conn. She was the daughter of Edward and Anna Liebe. On Aug. 22, 1948, she married Robert W. Probst at Jordan Lutheran Church in Monroe. Lynn was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Madison. She is survived by her husband, Robert W. Probst; three sons, William (Karen) Probst of Appleton, Paul (Kathy) Probst of Montgomery, Ala., and David Probst of Yuba City, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Heather Probst of Phoenix, Ariz., Robert G. Probst of Madison, Debra Probst of Madison, and Michael Probst of LaCrosse. Lynn is also survived by her sister, Emma Swenberg of Wallingford, Conn. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bill Liebe. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2008, at GOOD SHEPHERD LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5701 Raymond Road, Madison, at 1:30 p.m. with a visitation beginning at 12:30 p.m. at church. The family would like to thank Hebron Nursing Home (Oakwood West) for their compassionate care.

Stuczynski, Dolores A.

MADISON - Dolores A. (nee Zeleski) Stuczynski, was born to life on April 24, 1926 and entered eternal life on Saturday, June 28, 2008, after a courageous battle with multiple illnesses. She was a dedicated civil servant at Central Colony where she was employed as a nurse for more than 25 years. In Dolores' retirement she enjoyed working as a trip hostess for the High Rollers. Dolores is survived by her son, LeRoy (Sue) Stuczynski of Madison; daughter, Deb (Tim) Sumiec of Wauwatosa; grandchildren, Jason, Jacob (Amy), Abby Lubasha, and Molly Mei Wen; sister-in-law, Danie Zeleski; other relatives; and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen; parents, Nick and Laura Zeleski; and a brother, Fred Zeleski. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2008, 11 a.m. at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Ave., Madison. Father Roger Nilles will officiate the Mass. A memorial visitation will be held at the CHURCH from 10 a.m. until the time of service. The family expresses their deepest gratitude to Karmenta Nursing Home and University Hospital Staff for the care given to Dolores. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family, St. Peter's Catholic Church or to a charity of one's choice.

Arrowood, James, Jr.

STEVENS POINT - James Arrowood Jr., age 61, of Stevens Point, died June 29, 2008, following a lengthy illness. James was born on Sept. 30, 1946, in Concord, N.C. He was professor emeritus of music and former director of bands at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. In a life replete with recognition for excellence in musicianship and accolades in teaching, Jim most valued being a father and husband. James is survived by his wife, Barbara Arrowood of Stevens Point; daughter, Heather C Arrowood of Kenya, Africa; and son, Garett Arrowood of Miami, Fla. He was preceded in death by his father, J. Harry Arrowood. Bissell, Margaret J. (Nee Anderson)

FORD, WASH. - Margaret J. Bissell passed away June 28, 2008, at age 75 in Ford, Wash. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Charles R. Bissell. Four children also survive her, Charles R. Jr. and Elizabeth Dawn of Ford, Michael Scott of Spokane and Dianna Lynn of Auburn, Calif. She also has
six grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She is the sister of Valeria Feller of Verona, Russell Anderson of Waunakee, and Dean M. Anderson of Waterford, and the late Virginia Mimetz of Verona. Memorials to your local Hospice. Funeral services to be held today at 11 a.m.

Enke, Maurice A.

PATCH GROVE - Maurice A. Enke, age 82, of Patch Grove, died on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at the Lancaster Care Center. He was born on June 30, 1926, in Patch Grove, the son of Alvin and Sadie (Wilkenson) Enke. He attended school in Patch Grove. He married Genevieve Deakins and she preceded him in death in January 1999. Maurice farmed in the Patch Grove area all his life. His farm was a 3-H farm - Hereford, Holsteins and horses. Maurice milked cows until 1989 and raised beef cattle until a few years ago. Horses were a big part of his life. He brought the cows in by riding horseback. He enjoyed teams of horses, rodeo, breaking horses, and often had his horse and buggy in parades. He was a big supporter of the Blakes Prairie parades. Maurice enjoyed his family and especially loved his great-granddaughter, Taylor. He is survived by his stepson, Gary (Becky) Wilkinson of Belmont; his brother, Charles (Phyllis) Enke of Prairie du Chien; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; his stepdaughter, Tonya Vogel; and his sister-in-law, Irene Enke. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at the MARTIN FUNERAL HOME in Bloomington with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Burial will be in Union Nagle cemetery, Patch Grove Township. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of services at the funeral home on Thursday.
