MONROE - Albert H. Deppeler, age 84, well known cheesemaker, died Saturday July 12, 2008, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at ST. JOHN'S UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, Monroe. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, July 14, 2008, at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME in Monroe. A full obituary will appear in Monday's paper.

Dintemann, Nina May

LAS VEGAS, NEV - Nina May Dintemann, age 88, formerly of Madison, passed away Friday, July 11, 2008, in Las Vegas. She is survived by her children, Ronald (Erlinda) Dintemann of Las Vegas, Nev., Edwin Dintemann of River Falls and Patricia (Donald Weichbrod) Dintemann of Madison; grandchildren, Dawn, Michelle, Tami, David, William, Crystal, Carrisa and Sherry; and 11 great-grandchildren. Nina was preceded in death by her husband, Helmuth Dintemann in 1975. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Friday, July 18, 2008, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.

Gillingham, Frances M. Russell Beck

RICHLAND CENTER - Frances Marie Russell Beck Gillingham, age 92 of Richland Center, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at the Pine Valley Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Nov. 30, 1915, the daughter of Edward and LaNora (Tappe) Russell in Orion Township. Frances married George W. Beck on Nov. 1, 1942 and he preceded her in death on Dec, 5, 1961. Frances then married Theron Thomas Gillingham on Aug. 29, 1962 in Boaz and he preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1988. Frances enjoyed her time cooking for the Richland School District from 1968 until 1986. After her retirement, Frances loved baby sitting, especially for Tyler Hamby, who will always remember her as grandma Frances. Most important to her was the time spent with friends, neighbors, family and the company of her two cats. Survivors include her two daughters, Barbara (Harold) Pauls of Lone Rock and Shirley (Carroll) Clark of Richland Center; grandson, Jeremy (Christine) Clark of Minneapolis; two great-grandchildren, Ryder and Sophie Clark of Minneapolis; step daughter, Ruth Ann (Jack) Coleman of Joliet, Ill; step son, Sterling (Sharron) Gillingham of New Prague, Minnesota; step daughter-in-law, Margaret Gillingham of Richland Center; two sisters-in-law, Lucretia Gillingham of Gillingham and Ann Leys of Decatur, Ga.; numerous step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Isolene Zintz; six brothers, Rueben, Wilford, Harry, Roland, Dexter, and Donald Russell; and a step son, Willis Gillingham. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday July 17, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the PRATT MEMORIAL CHAPEL in Richland Center with Pastor Craig Peach officiating. Friends may call on Thursday at the Pratt Memorial Chapel from 12 p.m. until the time of service. Memorials in Frances' name maybe given to G.R.A.C.E. or Pine Valley Healthcare. Helgerson, Vernon "Bud"

SUN PRAIRIE - Vernon "Bud" Helgerson, 77 years, of Sun Prairie passed away on Friday, July 11, 2008. Vernon was born on Feb. 7, 1931, the son of Clarence and Mabel (Stange) Helgerson in Portage. Bud grew up in the town of Hampden and attended Columbus High School graduating in 1949. He was wed to Mary Smith on Nov. 4, 1950, at Spring Prairie Lutheran Church in Keyeser. He worked in the woodworking industry and retired from Northern Molding in Franklin Park, Ill. Afterwards, they moved to Sun Prairie from Roselle, Ill. Bud then took up golf again and belonged to the Columbus CC. He was also a member of Spring Prairie Lutheran Church. Bud is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary; his two sons, Steve (Velma) Helgerson of Portage, and Gary (Linette) Helgerson of Sun Prairie; two grandchildren, Erika of Madison and Justin of Sun Prairie; his mother, Mabel Kvale of Columbus; brothers, Dale (Diane) Helgerson of Watertown and Kenneth (Marcia) Helgerson of Cross Plains; his sister, Betty (Jerry) Swann of Colo.; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2008, at SPRING PRAIRIE LUTHERAN CHURCH, Keyeser, (located on the corner of County Hwy DM and C) with the Rev. Sylvia Lee-Thompson officiating. A visitation will also be held on Monday, July 14, 2008, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will take place at Spring Prairie Lutheran cemetery, Keyeser. The Zeidler Funeral Home in Columbus is serving the family.

Hull, Robert C. "Bob"

MADISON/ DEFOREST - Robert C. "Bob" Hull, age 73, passed away at the Peter and Ellen Johnson HospiceCare Center, on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, after an accident at his home. He was born on Aug. 2, 1934, in Platteville, the son of Kenneth and Margaret Hull. On Aug. 25, 1962, Bob married Beverly Ingwell of Middleton and was blessed with a son, Mitchell, the "sunshine of his life." His early career path was that of a hairstylist-haircutter at Busch Beauty Salon, Madison, and then as a driver/manager for 28 years with Air Freight Specialists-Film Service Inc. Bob was an avid Packers and Badgers fan but will be remembered for his love of all Cuba City High School sports. "Go Cubans." His Fordson tractor, music, sports, television, reading, whistling, and especially "naps" were among some of his passions. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Beverly; son, Mitch (Dawn Griesbach); two beloved grandchildren, Kiley and Sam; a sister, Cheryl (Gary) Towers of Racine; and two nephews, Sean and Wade (Susie) Towers. Bob was preceded in death by his dear grandparents, Robert and Elsie Pierce; mother, Margaret Hull; father, Kenneth (Leona) Hull; and brother, Lance Hull. Visitation will be on Monday, July 14, 2008 at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madsion, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a time of friendship and fellowship. Jacob, Jean Ellen

PEWAUKEE - Jean Ellen Jacob (nee Kluge), age 64, beloved mother, sister, aunt and friend entered God's loving arms on Monday, June 30, 2008. She will be missed by her loving children, Grant and Jill, and family. She was born in Milwaukee, the daughter of Frederick and Violet Kluge. A generous and caring woman, she loved spending time with her family and friends. Jean had a rewarding career as a registered nurse and educator for 40 years. She was actively involved in her church and volunteered in her community. Traveling and reading were two of her favorite activities. Jean had a wonderful sense of humor and always saw the good in people. Sincere appreciation is extended to the AngelsGrace Hospice center for their wonderful care and support. A Memorial Service to celebrate Jean's life will be held on July 20, at ELMBROOK CHURCH, 777 S. Kilen, Karen J.

ARLINGTON/DEFOREST - Karen Jeane Kilen, age 64, passed away peacefully at home of cancer surrounded by her family on Friday, July 11, 2008. Karen was born on Nov. 6, 1943, in Madison, the daughter of the late Martin and Edna (Wernick) Manthe. She was the youngest child of eleven children. On Nov. 11, 1961, Karen was united in marriage to Keith R. Kilen at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Together they operated Kilen Masonry from 1976 until his death in 1992. Karen went on to work at Madison Cut Stone (Division of Madison Block and Stone) from April 1, 1996, until her retirement on April 1, 2007. She was a lifelong member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arlington. Karen did not want a lot of fuss, but she was amazing and deeply loved. Her attitude and acceptance of God's plan were an inspiration to us all. Karen is survived by her loving children, Kevin (Chris) Kilen, Martin (Dawn) Kilen, Kelly (Curt) Kuhn and Donald (Sue) Kilen; seven grandchildren, Kai, Keith, Daniel "Jake", Karen, Jamie, Abigail and Mason; seven siblings, Isabel Arneson of DeForest, Norbert Manthe of DeForest, James (Marie) Manthe of Perham, Minn., William "Billy" Manthe of Neshkoro, Doris Welch of Wichita Falls, Texas, Raymond (Suzanne) Manthe of Oak Creek and Donald (Shirley) Manthe of Mauston; a sister-in-law; Donna Manthe of Madison. MADISON - Patricia Louise Lovell, age 54, died on Friday, July 11, 2008, after a three year battle with ovarian cancer. Manteufel, Carl F. "Carlie"

MADISON - Carl F. "Carlie" Manteufel, age 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at St. Mary's Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Carlie was born Oct. 24, 1918, the son of Carl J. and Emma (Kleist) Manteufel in Portage. He lived most of his life in the Portage area. He was employed as a ballistic shift supervisor for the Badger Army Ammunition Plant / Olin Corp. in Baraboo, and he also taught radar at Scott Field in Missouri and Truax Field in Madison. His expertise in all areas of the company's operation were greatly recognized as he was called back for special projects during and since World War II. Carlie had a business of TV repair, shuffleboards and jukeboxes. He was a talented man and had many accomplishments during his life. He was a jack-of all trades and was often referred to as "Mr. Fix-It." There was no job or project too large for Carlie. One of his accomplishments was the total renovation of an historic family home in Portage, where he self-handedly rebuilt the home, including electrical and structural modifications. Carlie enjoyed woodworking and also had a love for music. He was an accomplished organist and was a member of the Pedal Pushers Organ Club. Carlie was united in marriage to Jacquelyn Domini on Jan. 24, 1981, in Portage. Carlie was also a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Jackie; and step-children, Denise Kowalczyk, Lisa Meadowcroft, Jodie (Doug) Meadowcroft-Hermans, Todd Meadowcroft; grandchildren, Erin (Oscar) Cimino Huesca, Leslie, Alex, and Kristen Kowalczyk; and a great-granddaughter, Anabella Huesca Cimino. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Cora (Hawkins) Manteufel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2008, at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison, with a visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of service. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to St Maria Goretti Catholic Church, or the charity of your choice. Carlie was a special and important part of our family. He had a natural and unique kindness that is rarely seen in people. His gentle and soft spoken words were filled with truth and hopefulness. Evidence of his devout spirituality was expressed in the way he treated others. He spoke kindly of people and wished them the very best. Carlie was deeply contemplative and highly intelligent. We could always count on him to be the voice of reason. His ever-present thoughtfulness and humility brought ease to others. Carlie overflowed with unsung love.
Thank you, Carlie, for allowing our family to share many wonderful years with you. You are in our hearts. We love you deeply, and will miss you greatly.

MADISON - Sharon L. Mathson, age 68, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2008. She was born on April 2, 1940, the daughter of LeRoy and Ardelle (Dalby) Kepp. Sharon is survived by her partner of 15 years, Jack Kerr; two children, Dawn (Jeff) Kundert and Craig (fiancee, Michelle Munson) Mathson; two grandchildren, Kimber (fiance, Ben Pamp) and Josh Seibel; step-mother, Midge Kepp; and many relatives and friends. Okray, Peter A.

MADISON - Peter A. Okray, age 67, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg. Peter had endured a lengthy and valiant skirmish with lymphoma. He was born on June 22, 1941, to Ralph and Helene (Waterman) Okray. Peter graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1959 and continued his studies at UW-Madison, where he received his bachelor, master and doctorate degrees. He became engaged on Valentine's Day, and was united in marriage to Catherine A. Cline on July 17, 1965. They made their home in Wausau, where he taught English and was an active participant in faculty governance, at the UW colleges, until his retirement in 1999. Peter was a scholar of life and the universe in an insatiable search for truth. In frequent contact with former students appreciative of his guidance, he wore his "toughest professor" designation as a badge of honor. He specialized in British Literature with a particular focus on the life and writings of Charles Dickens. Peter held extremely high standards for himself, his family, and his students. A kind and passionate man, Peter will be missed by many people whose friendship and love he cherished. Peter is survived by his wife, Cathy of Madison; children, James of Madison; Elizabeth (Robert) Klingbile of Aniwa; brother, James (Bev Wilson) of Monona; sister, Emily (Ted) Vanke of Sharon Township, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Peterson, O'Dean N.

BRODHEAD - O'Dean Norman Peterson, age 87 of Brodhead, passed away at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, on Friday, July 11, 2008. He was born on Jan. 19, 1921 in Stoughton, the son of Sanford and Emma (Hartwig) Peterson. The family moved to Ft. Atkinson in 1925. He married Mary Zerjav in 1941 in Watertown. She died on Feb. 13, 1992, shortly after their 50th wedding anniversary celebration. On May 27, 1995, Dean married Gweneth Schlittler. Early in life, Dean developed a keen interest in life and people. He became a familiar figure around Ft. Atkinson, selling odds and ends from the dump, fish from his fishing jaunts to the Rock River, asparagus from his treks along the railroad tracks, and other ventures. He loved music. From his early days of playing trombone in the high school band and orchestra, and city orchestra, to going to many dances held in the area, singing in the church choir and enjoying music performances later in life. He graduated from Ft. Atkinson High School in 1938 and began working in the grocery business which became his lifetime work and interest. Dean was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1945, spending most of his service in the Pacific Theater. He worked for A and P Grocers in Watertown and then in Monroe, starting his own grocery store in Brodhead in 1950. Dean took a passionate interest in his community, its businesses, organizations, and welfare. He spent 12 years on the local school board, during which time the high school and elementary school were built. He served as a director at the Bank of Brodhead for 20 years. He was instrumental in the formation of the local Lions Club, Jaycees, Industrial Commission, June Dairy Day, Corn Picking Contest, and Swine Judging Contest in Brodhead. Dean was on the Green County Cheese Days committee in 1955 and 1960, was instrumental in having the Betty Crocker Bake-Off in Brodhead, and visits by the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile. He was a member of the local fire department for 24 years, Green County Board of Supervisors, Veterans of Foreign Wars lifetime member, American Legion lifetime member, Certified Grocers member and president, member of the Wisconsin Food Dealers association, served on the Brodhead Library Board, active in the White Gift organization, member of the Decatur Lake Country Club, lifetime member of the Brodhead Historical Society, charter member of the Brodhead Lions Club, and donated land for the EMS building. Dean received numerous awards and commendations for his work and devotion to different organizations; Melvin P. Jones Award by the Lions Club International, Outstanding Young Man and Outstanding Senior Citizen by the Brodhead Jaycees, C.S. Pierce Award for Community Service, Outstanding Promo Award by Coca Cola, and Certco Outstanding Grocer Award. Dean is survived by his wife, Gwen of Brodhead; a son, Sanford (Elizabeth) Peterson of Leawood, Kan.; a daughter, Sue (Kim) Hartwig of Monroe; four step-children, Kerry (DeAnn) Schlittler of Brodhead, Kendall (Karen) Schlittler of Sauk City, Kevin (Barb) Schlittler of Waunakee and Kathleen (Bob) Karius of Summit; four grandchildren, Andrew (Brandy) Peterson, Rachel (Steve) Smith and Nick and Angela Hartwig; eleven step-grandchildren, Brielle (Josh) Reicks, Jordan, Bethany, Lydia, Ian, Taylor, Keegan, and Aidan Schlittler and Alex, Eric, and Anna Karius; two step great-grandchildren, Jacob and Amelia; two brothers, Raymond (Lola) and Donald (Marie) Peterson of Ft. Atkinson; a sister, Lois (Dave) Bielefeldt of Ft. Atkinson; a sister-in-law, Carol Peterson; and brother-in-law, Gerald Mepham, both of Ft. Atkinson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary; a daughter, Donna; parents; grandparents; three sisters, Helen, Irene, and Dorothy; and a brother, Roger. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2008, at ST. PETER'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, Brodhead, where Dean was a member. Pastor Mark Neumann will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery with full military rites. Visitation will be held on Monday from 9 a.m. until time of services at the church. Phillips, Beatrice DeBrucky

MADISON - Beatrice Phillips passed away on July 3, 2008, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center in Madison at the age of 92. Beatrice was born on Dec. 11, 1915, in Leetsdale, Pa., the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Lang) DeBrucky. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, David Phillips, in 1995; and three siblings, George DeBrucky of Sewickley, Pa., William DeBrucky of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Pearl (DeBrucky) Conti of Ambridge, Pa. Beatrice is survived by four children, Barbara Elizabeth Phillips of Berkeley, Calif., David William Phillips of Madison, Thomas George Phillips of Downers Grove, Ill. and Robert James Phillips of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and a grandson, Michael Gregory Phillips of Chicago, Ill. Beatrice graduated from Ambridge High School (Pennsylvania) in 1933 and attended Duffs Iron City College (Pittsburgh, Pa.) where she met her future husband. David and Beatrice married in 1938. Until her first child was born, Beatrice worked as a stenographer at the A.M. Byers Corporation in Ambridge. Beatrice had a life-long interest in the arts that was expressed through acting in community theater productions and singing in her church choir. In later years she appeared in non-speaking roles in two feature films. In 1962 Beatrice began a second career as a court reporter in the Pennsylvania Department of Justice. In 1985 Beatrice and David retired to Northport, Fla. For the next ten years they traveled widely over five continents. Beatrice worked as a trip leader on numerous cruises in the Caribbean. Following her husband's death, Beatrice moved to Madison and lived at Brookdale Wynwood Senior Living. Beatrice's family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Wynwood and the Madison Hospice Center for the wonderful care she received in the last six years of her life. Beatrice's cremains will be buried beside her husband in the Garden of Remembrance at Grace United Methodist Church in Venice, Fla. A memorial service is being planned at the church in January, 2009.
