She started first grade at age four in the rural Harms School and later enrolled in the Cobb Elementary and high school. Her first jobs were in the rural schools: Lone School between Big Patch and Elmo in Grant Co., Willow Springs, Oak Dale and Hazel Dell in Iowa Co. After Iowa-Grant Schools consolidated she taught at Livingston and Cobb. Frances was a masterful teacher. Frances assumed active leadership roles in the community through her church, the Platteville Order of Eastern Star, Cobb Women's Club, Eden cemetery Board, Cobb Busy Badgers 4-H Club, Upland Hills Hospital volunteer and Iowa County Retired Teachers. She enjoyed working at the Eden Township elections, the bloodmobile drives and the Cobb church quilting club. Frances had a spunky, tireless attitude that made things happen.
