Margaret O'Loughlin

Margaret O'Loughlin, “Grandma O”, age 57 of Necedah, Wisconsin peacefully and lovingly reached for the Lord’s arms in the early morning hours of Friday, April 11, 2008 at her residence.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 18, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lyndon Station with Father Paul Czerwonka celebrating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Conway Picha Funeral Home in Lyndon Station, Wisconsin on Thursday, April 17, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.

Margaret was born June 12, 1950 in Oak Park, Illinois, the daughter of John and Catherine (Kerr) Grover. She grew up in Illinois and moved to the Necedah area in 1981 where she lived for a few years before returning to Illinois. In June of 1984 she married John O’Loughlin in Adams, Wisconsin. They permanently moved back to Wisconsin in 1989. The one thing Margaret enjoyed most was to spend time with her many children and grandchildren on any occasion, but most especially around the holidays. She also enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino and was definitely an avid fan of a good cup of coffee. And, of course, especially if it was shared with family and/or friends. Margaret was an exceptionally beautiful person with an immeasurable amount of compassion, forgiveness and love for all those around her! To say that she will be greatly missed…is immeasurable as well!

Margaret is survived by her husband of 24 years, John; sons, Paul (Maricella) of Round Lake, Illinois, Peter (Jennifer) of Oregon, Illinois and Adam, Daniel (Mary Callahan), Michael, John (Cass Carter) and Joseph all of Necedah; daughters, Peggy (Todd) Kolk, Renee Fischer and Mary O’Laughlin all of Necedah; grandchildren, Jorge, Sabrina, Donna, Megan, and Andrew O’Loughlin, Tempestt Jones, Michael Corey, Samantha Fischer and Abbeygail O’Loughlin whom was coming into this world April 12th! “We believe “Grandma O” left this world early to make sure she would be the first to hold her new granddaughter”! She is further survived by three brothers; six sisters; many, many nieces, nephews and all of those whom she had “adopted” into calling her “Grandma O”. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother in law, Warren Judge; sister in law, Janet Grover; niece, Rebecca VanHoof; nephew, Joseph Grover and five premature grandbabies.

Gloria Walther

Gloria Walther, age 62 of rural Mauston, Wisconsin died Monday, April 14, 2008 in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Memorial funeral services will be held Friday, April 18, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at the Conway-Picha Funeral Home in Lyndon Station, Wisconsin with Reverend Jeffrey Fairchild officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at 6:00 p.m.

Gloria was born May 3, 1945 in Fountain Township, Juneau County, Wisconsin, the daughter of George and Genevieve (Pfaff) Regelin. She graduated from Mauston High School. In July of 1964 she married Jerry Walther in Mauston. He preceded her in death in November of 2007. Gloria worked for Wisconsin Power and Light/Alliant Energy for 34 years, retiring in 2005. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and her Homemakers Group and her favorite pastimes included crafting, snowmobiling and volunteering her time at the Fountain Lutheran Mission Home in Hustler, Wisconsin. She also was a lifetime member of the Castle Rock River Runners Snowmobile Club.

Gloria is survived by a daughter, Debra (Glenn) Priest of Mauston; granddaughters, Ciera and Hali; and sisters, Kathleen Van Loon of Midway, Wisconsin, Louise Regelin of Moscow, Idaho and Delores (David) Segerstrom of Medford, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry; sisters, infant, Grace, Florence Sackmaster and Viola “Sis” Brauer; and brothers, Ervin, Walter and Fred.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the following; Elaine, Bonnie and Barb of HospiceTouch; Georgene, Terry Jean and Denie, special nieces who helped care for “mom”; and Kathy, Betty and Sharon, special friends who also cared for “mom”.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Hustler Booster Club for renovation of the Hustler Creamery.

Marie Johanson

Marie Johanson, age 80 of Lake Delton, Wisconsin died Sunday, January 26, 2003 at her residence with her loving husband by her side.

Memorial funeral services will be held Thursday, January 30, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at the Picha Funeral Home in Lake Delton, Wisconsin with Reverend Dennis Schueler officiating. Marie was cremated according to her wishes.

Marie was born April 4, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Ernest and Marie (Robel) Huber. In August of 1943 she married Kenneth Johanson in Chicago, Illinois. In 1980 they moved to the Dells area.

Marie is survived by her husband, Kenneth; a niece, Cindy (Tony) Failla of Chicago; a nephew, Harry Schmidt of Friendship, Wisconsin and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Kurt; and sisters, Julianna and Gloria.

Visitation will be held at the Picha Funeral Home on Thursday from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M.

Eugene Landt

Eugene Fay Landt, 84, of Wisconsin Dells died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003 at his home in Dell Prairie.

Eugene was born March 4, 1918, in Portage, Wis., the son of Newton Allison and Fay Montez (nee Brown) Landt. He was raised and went to school in Kilbourn City, graduating from high school in 1936. He graduated from the University of Montana Forestry School, Missoula, in 1940. Following graduation he worked for the Nekoosa Edwards Paper Company in Port Edwards, Wis.

In June of 1941 he married Mary Jane Loucks of Madison, Wis. In 1942 Gene began work at the Forest Products Laboratory, U.S. Forest Service in Madison, Wis. ; then after six months he entered the U.S. Navy as an Ensign in June, 1943. He was assigned to the Destroyer DD495 Endicott later to the Panama Sea Frontier in Balboa, Canal Zone as operations officer.

In 1946 he returned to the Forest Products Lab and in 1955 he transferred to the U.S. Forest Service Rocky Mountain Forest and Range Experiment Station in Rapid City, South Dakota . In 1963 he transferred to the USDA Forest Service Research Branch in Washington, D.C. where he was staff assistant to the director of forest products research. In 1967 he was appointed product leader at the North Central Forest Experiment Station at Carbondale, Illinois on the Southern Illinois University campus.

Gene retired from the U.S. Forest Service in 1973 after 32 years of service and moved back to Madison, Wis., where he accepted a position as forest products utilization specialist for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. He retired again five years later and moved to the tree farm in Adams County he and his wife had purchased 25 years earlier with his sister and brother-in-law Tom and Nona Crist.

Eugene is a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Wisconsin Dells and a member of the Dells Country Historical Society where he was curator of the Bowman House museum for several years. He was known as a tireless creator of woodworks for his church, friends and family, which he continued until his death. He never said no to a request, and never took any payment.

Eugene is survived by a sister, Nona Crist, Wisconsin Dells; his three children, Jeremy (Myrna) Landt, Santa Fe, N.M., Judy Gibson, Wisconsin Dells, and Jon (Mary) Landt, Carbondale, Ill.; grandchildren Deborah (Jiri) Kubicek, Los Alamos, N.M., Christopher (Debbie) Landt, Las Cruces, N.M., Julie (Michael) Esterl, Madison, Wis., Matthew (Terrie) Landt, Austin, Tex.; Todd Nordby, Des Plaines, Ill., Cully (Mark) Frye, Oakland, Ca., Gray and Sarah Landt, both of Carbondale, Ill.; seven great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, a brother Allison and his parents.

A memorial service will be held at United Presbyterian Church in Wisconsin Dells at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29 with a gathering for friends and family at the church before and after the service. Rev. Steve G. Keller will officiate.

Donations can be made to the Mary Jane Landt Memorial Scholarship Fund, School of Forestry, The University of Montana Foundation, Brantly Hall, Post Office Box 7159, Missoula, Montana 59807 .

Picha Funeral Home in Lake Delton is serving the family.

Patricia Karas

Patricia Karas, age 62 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin died Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at the Wisconsin Dells Health and Rehabilitation Center.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 25, 2003 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells with Father Felix Oehrlein officiating. Following the traditional services Patricia will be cremated.

Patricia was born March 3, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Walter and Frances (Ostrowski) Matecki. She was married to Raymond Karas, Jr. Patricia was a registered nurse and furthered her education and received her master’s degree in nursing. Prior to moving to the Dells area she was in hospital administration in the Chicago area. In 1994 she moved permanently to Wisconsin Dells and was employed at the Wisconsin Dells Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Patricia is survived by her husband, Raymond, Jr.; sons, Robert (Josephine) Karas of Chicago, Illinois, Victor (Beth) Karas of Palm Dale, California, Michael (Cynthia) Karas and Raymond (Dawn) Karas, III both of Wisconsin Dells; and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be held at the Picha Funeral Home of Lake Delton, Wisconsin on Friday, January 24, 2003 from 4 to 7 P.M. and on Saturday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services at 10:30 A.M.

Robert Grandrud

Robert Grandrud, age 63 of Lake Delton, Wisconsin died Monday, January 20, 2003 at his residence.

Private funeral services were held.

Robert was born April 16, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois and lived for many years in Elmwood Park, Illinois. He was involved with local political activities; was a DuPage County District Chairperson for the Boy Scouts of America also being an Eagle Scout and was a member of the Rotary International having received the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow Award. After moving to the Dells area he operated a gift/ceramic store in Lake Delton and at the House on the Rock along with his wife, Kathleen.

Robert is survived by his wife, Kathleen; sons, Robert (Patty) Ryan of Arizona, Daniel Ryan of Wheaton, Illinois and Timothy Grandrud of West Chicago, Illinois; daughters, Deborah (Kenneth) Grandrud of Mundelein, Illinois, Janet (Scott) Somogyi of Carol Stream, Illinois; a stepdaughter, Natalie Dvorak of River Grove, Illinois; a sister, Kathleen (Randy) Lawson of Schaumburg, Illinois; a stepsister, Arlene (Sol) Melamed of Round Lake Park, Illinois and 6 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Grandrud.

Bryce Knuth

Bryce Knuth, age 42 of Rio, Wisconsin, formerly of Wisconsin Dells died Sunday, January 19, 2003 at his residence with family and friends by his side following a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 23, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at the United Presbyterian Church in Wisconsin Dells with Reverend Steven Keller officiating. Following the traditional services Bryce will be cremated.

Bryce was born March 14, 1960 in Dodgeville, Wisconsin the son of Louis and Shirley (Landt) Knuth. He graduated from Wisconsin Dells High School in 1979. In October of 1981 he married Sally Schneider. Bryce loved motorcycles, dogs and had a keen interest in buffaloes.

Bryce is survived by his wife, Sally; parents, Louis and Shirley Knuth of Wisconsin Dells; sisters, Shari (John) Seymour of Jefferson, Wisconsin and Mary (Ken) Knapp of Madison, Wisconsin; an aunt, Esther (Walt) Nimmow of Madison and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Visitation will be held at the Picha Funeral Home of Lake Delton, Wisconsin on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 from 5 to 9 P.M. and on Thursday at the United Presbyterian Church from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Columbia County Humane Society or to Cancer Research.

Florence Baldwin

Florence Baldwin, age 90 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin went to her eternal home on Saturday, January 4, 2003 at the Wisconsin Dells Health & Rehabilitation Center .

Florence was born September 15, 1912 in Hillsboro, Wisconsin the daughter of Byron and Catherine (Gutriter) Vaningan, the youngest of 8 children. She spent her early life in the Hillsboro area, going to school and learning how to care for a family. She helped her mother with the daily “chores” and made dinner for the family after school while her parents worked. She was known for her baking powder biscuits which her brother “Bun” would sneak before they got to the dinner table.

At an early age of 17 she married Dale Campbell. They later moved to Baraboo, Wisconsin and had two children, Marlene and Gloria. While Dale worked for Sauk County Florence worked for several years at Pries Apparel. She busied herself with her children, teaching Girl Scouts and passing down the family tradition of cooking and crocheting. Always involved with her friends and the neighborhood, she loved her morning coffee klatch with “the girls”. Cooking was an art and pastime for Florence and was known for feeding an army from next to nothing.

In September of 1969 she married Maynard Baldwin of Mount Tabor, Wisconsin. They continued a family and friend based life for many years. Both loved to garden, travel, fish and care for others.

Later in her years Florence was known as “Granny” to many for the wonderful things she did and lots of cookies she shared. She was a joy to be with and will be missed by so many people whose life she touched.

Florence is survived by a daughter, Gloria Jones of Watertown, Wisconsin; a son in law, Gladwyn (Denny) Daines of Fort Meyers, Florida grandchildren, Robert and Barbara Schuett, Sandy (Dennis) Griep, Scott Daines, and Todd (Carrie) Daines; great grandchildren, Courtney Schuett and Brittney and Courtney Daines and. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; husband, Maynard; daughter, Marlene; brothers, Albert, Bernie “Bun”, Joe and Bill and sisters, Elsie Moon, Eva Lind and Stella Bixby.

Visitation will be held at the Picha Funeral Home of Lake Delton on Wednesday, January 8, 2003 from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M. at the Picha Funeral Home with Reverend Steven Keller officiating. Burial will be at the Walnut Hill cemetery in Baraboo, Wisconsin.

The family would like to express their great thanks and deep gratitude to the staff of Wisconsin Dells Health & Rehabilitation Center for the care they gave to Florence for many years.

Gerald "Whitey" Hohn

Gerald “Whitey” Hohn, age 58 of Lewiston Township, Columbia County, Wisconsin died Friday, December 20, 2002 at the Divine Savior Hospital in Portage, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 23, 2002 at 10:30 A.M. at the Picha Funeral Home in Lake Delton, Wisconsin with Reverend Arthur Anacker officiating. Burial will be at the Briggsville Protestant cemetery in Briggsville, Wisconsin.

Whitey was born April 28, 1944 in Madison, Wisconsin the son of Patrick and Velma (Schulenburg) Hohn. He graduated from Baraboo High School. In October of 1965 he married Celia Brickwell in Briggsville. For many years Whitey was an insurance salesman. He loved riding Harley Davidson motorcycles; being out doors whether fishing, gardening, camping or just plain traveling; collecting bald eagle figurines and he was a member of the Columbia County Pheasants Forever. Whitey was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.

He will be missed dearly by his wife, Celia; son, Scott (Traci) Hohn and daughter, Tamra (Ronald) Marks both of Pardeeville, Wisconsin; parents, Patrick and Velma Hohn of Madison; sisters, Vivian (Terry) Kell of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin and Patricia (Ken Nickel) Sauey of Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin; a granddaughter, Ciara Anne and his little dog, Toby. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Visitation will be held at the Picha Funeral Home in Lake Delton on Sunday, December 22, 2002 from 4 to 8 P.M. and on Monday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home.

Walter Wesolowski

Walter Wesolowski, age 80 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin died Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at the Wisconsin Dells Health & Rehabilitation Center.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 14, 2002 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells with Father Felix Oehrlein officiating. Burial will be at Calvary cemetery in Wisconsin Dells.

Walter was born May 29, 1922 in Germany the son of Michael and Franciszka (Miklas) Wesolowski. He was married to Emily Sikora in 1960 in Poland and she preceded him in death in December of 2001. They had moved to the Dells area in 1985 and owned the Driftwood Motel.

Walter is survived by 2 sons, Michael (Sirlene) Wesolowski of Lake Delton, Wisconsin and David Wesolowski of Colorado; a daughter, Grace (Edward) Bochenski of Naperville, Illinois; 7 grandchildren; 2 brothers and 1 sister. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and 2 brothers.

Visitation will be held at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church on Saturday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at 10:30 A.M.
