Marion Christensen

Marion Christensen, age 76 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin died Friday, September 26, 2003 in the comfort of her own home with her loving family by her side.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 28, 2003 at 6:00 P.M. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Dells with Reverend Craig Wolfgram officiating. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the service from 4 to 6 P.M. Funeral services will also be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at 10:00 A.M. at All Saints Lutheran Church, 630 South Quentin Road, Palatine, Illinois with Pastor Leonard Peterson officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 29, 2003 from 4 to 9 P.M. at the Ahlgrim Funeral Home, 201 North Northwest Highway in Palatine . Marion will be cremated following the services.

Marion was born August 4, 1927 in Withee, Wisconsin the daughter of Bennet and Martha (Nielsen) Petersen. At the age of 19 she moved to the Chicago area and studied at the Chicago Conservatory of Music. In June of 1948 she married Raymond Christensen. She held various jobs as a manager of a fabric store and as manager of a newspaper. In 1986 she moved with her husband to the Dells area. She was active with her church, was a member of the church’s Covergirls sewing group, she loved to sing and enjoyed spending time gardening, cooking and getting together with family and friends.

Marion is survived by her husband, Raymond; sons, John (Jackie) of Tucson, Arizona, William of Avon, Indiana, James of Ingleside, Illinois and son in law, Kenneth Peterson of Roselle, Illinois; a daughter, Karen (Russell) Peterson of Rolling Meadows, Illinois; a brother, Hans (Nancy) Petersen and a sister, Else Petersen, both of Wisconsin Dells; a sister in law, Joan Petersen of Phoenix, Arizona; and grandchildren, Eric, Jason, Heather and Christian Peterson and Samantha Christensen. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Jeanne Peterson and a brother, James.

Florence Kieta

Florence Kieta, age 81 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin died Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at her residence.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, September 19, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Saint Cecelia Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin . Following the traditional services Florence will be cremated and her cremains will be interred at the Lake Delton Village cemetery .

Florence was born June 16, 1922 in Cicero, Illinois the daughter of John and Rose Cwik and was raised in Cicero . On August 25, 1946 she married Joseph Kieta at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Cicero . A short time later they moved to the Dells area. She and her husband Joe owned and operated Slumber Hill Motel in the Wisconsin Dells area, she also cooked school lunches at Wisconsin Dells High School, and most recently, she made fudge at Swiss Maid Candy Store on Broadway in the Dells. Florence was a long time member of the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187 Ladies Auxiliary of Wisconsin Dells and of Saint Cecilia Catholic Church.

Florence is survived by her sons; Joseph J. Kieta (Marilyn) of Middleton, Wisconsin and Donald Kieta (Judi) of Madison, Wisconsin and 4 grandchildren; Jacob, the son of Joseph and Mary Kieta, and David (fiancé Heather Peterson), Dan (fiancé Angie Messer), and Jill (fiancé Fred McGowan) all the children of Donald and Judi Kieta. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe, and her parents.

Visitation will be held at Saint Cecelia Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells on Friday, September 19, 2003 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of mass at 11:00 A.M.

Edward Ristow

Edward Ristow, age 86 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin passed away peacefully to his heavenly home on Wednesday, September 10, 2003 at Four Winds Manor in Verona, Wisconsin .

Memorial funeral services will be held Saturday, September 20, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Dells with Reverend Dennis Schueler and Vicar Jonathan Vierkant co-celebrating. According to his wishes Ed was cremated.

Ed was born September 7, 1917 in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin the son of Rudolph and Anna (Meinberg) Ristow. He worked for 27 years at NEPCO, served as city alderman, was an Immanuel Lutheran Church elder and honored his country through the US Army in Okinawa . He also founded the Wisconsin Rapids Little League, refereed a memorable game with the Harlem Globetrotters, 17 years for the WIAA and umpired the Minnesota Twins farm team. Ed was an avid sportsman spending countless memorable hours in the great northwoods near Minocqua, WI, where he often could be seen dancing a hot two-step to the many wonderful live club bands with his cherished wife of 64 years, Ruth (nee Dunham, deceased August, 2001). Edward and Ruth moved to the Dells in 1969 where he shared his dedicated work ethic with Olin Corporation and the Bank of Wisconsin Dells/Lake Delton. He was a respected bowler in several leagues as well as a volunteer for many projects at his church, Trinity Lutheran.

Ed truly lived by the Golden Rule and will be sorely missed by the multitude of people he regularly blessed with his positive, good-Samaritan attitude and many humorous stories that consistently delighted his treasured family. His primary objective in life was to bring a smile to people’s faces. Eds’ surviving children include Edward R. Ristow, Jr. (Judith) of Menomonie, WI, and Charmaine Ristow Hitzemann (Benjamin) of Verona, WI . Mr. Ristow’s surviving grandchildren include Ed Jr.’s children Carrie Hathaway, Jill (Nick) Hughes, and Ross (Katherine) Ristow and their children: Kristen and Mara; Ethan and Lauren; Edward and Claire, respectively; and Charmaine’s son Hunter. He loved them all passionately and unconditionally supporting and commending their every accomplishment. Ed is also survived by a sister, Ruth Toepel of Wisconsin Rapids, a brother, Rudolph Ristow, Jr, of Neenah, WI as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Edward was preceded in death by his wife, his brothers Frank and Gerald and his sister, Edna Plahmer.

Visitation will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday from 1 P.M. until the time of service at 2 P.M.

All are welcome and the family requests that memorials be made directly to the church.

Howard Thompson

Howard Thompson, age 71 of Baraboo, Wisconsin died Thursday, September 11, 2003 at the Divine Savior Nursing Home in Portage, Wisconsin .

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 15, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin with Reverend Craig Wolfgram officiating. Burial will be at the Newport Lutheran Church cemetery of rural Wisconsin Dells. Military rites will be offered by the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187 of Wisconsin Dells.

Howard was born April 30, 1932 in Mauston, Wisconsin the son of Oscar and Anna (Fadness) Thompson. He attended Dells area schools and joined the U.S. Army. This took him overseas to Germany . He earned the rank of Private First Class and was honorably discharged in April of 1956. From 1967 until his retirement in 2001 he worked for Baraboo Concrete. He was a member of American Legion Post 333 of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin .

Howard is survived by a son, Jeff Thompson of Portage ; a daughter, Jill Thompson of Sun Prairie; grandchildren, Andrew Thompson and Ashley Jessenburger; and a dear, special friend, Joyce Klappstein of Baraboo. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church on Monday from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Newport Lutheran Church .

Dr. Rufus Wright

Dr. Rufus Wright, age 88 of Lake Delton, Wisconsin died Friday, August 29, 2003 at the Wisconsin Dells Health and Rehabilitation Center .

Rufus was born September 3, 1914 in Adair, Oklahoma the son of Edward and Ora (Cumming) Wright. He attended Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas and earned a PhD in physics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1940. He spent World War 2 on radar development with MIT’s Radiation Laboratory. In 1945 he came to the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C., retiring in 1976. On the occasion of the Naval Research Laboratory’s 75th anniversary, Rufus received an award for his work on counter measures.

Rufus believed in the good possible when people work together toward common goals. A charter member of the Mount Vernon Unitarian-Universalist Church of Alexandria, Virginia, he served as Sunday school teacher, newsletter worker and as BOD chairman. A firm advocate of public education, Rufus served on PTA’s at Hollin Hall Elementary School and Fort Hunt High School and as member and vice chairman of the Fairfax County School Board during the turbulent 1970’s. An energetic community member, he helped build Tauxemont Pre-School building, coached Hollin Hall Little League teams and served on the BOD of Mondlock House, offering shelter to battered women. After retirement Rufus worked for the Democratic Party, canvassing, working the polls and hosting the annual Mt. Vernon District ice cream social in his Westmoreland Road back yard. Many sports delighted Rufus but tennis held a special spot in his heart.

Rufus is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gertrude (Leonard) Wright; sons, Edward L. (Patricia) Wright of Los Angeles, California and William Rufus (Nancy) Wright of New York City, New York; a daughter, Eleanor Wright (Stephen) Chiquoine of Reedsburg, Wisconsin; grandchildren, William J. Wright, Diana L. Wright, Alexander D. Chiquoine, Nicholas W. Chiquoine and Elizabeth H. Chiquoine; numerous nephews and nieces and by Laura (Shipman) Wright, the widow of his son, Donald. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, John, Woodrow, Helen, Christine, Lina Lee and Edward and by his youngest son, Donald K. Wright.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 19, 2003 at 3:00 P.M. at the Mount Vernon Unitarian-Universalist Church, 1900 Windmill Lane, Alexandria, Virginia 22307 . In lieu of flowers, please make memorials of remembrance to the Mount Vernon Unitarian-Universalist Church or to the Free Congregation of Sauk City, 307 Polk Street, Sauk City, WI 53583 .

Jennie Jones

Jennie Genevieve Jones, age 94 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin died peacefully Saturday, August 30, 2003 at the Wisconsin Dells Health and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at 1:00 P.M. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Dells with Reverend Craig Wolfgram officiating. Burial will be at Spring Grove cemetery in Wisconsin Dells.

Jennie was born December 21, 1908 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin the daughter of Anton and Julia (Czarniak) Janusz. On August 24, 1929 she married Lew Jones in Milwaukee and moved the following day to the Jones’ family farm in Newport Township. Several years later they moved into Kilbourn (Wisconsin Dells) and built their home on Illinois Avenue where she lived until her last days. Jennie was known as “Gramma Jones” to many people. Her wit, wisdom and character will be cherished by those who knew her. She touched the lives of many people in such a way that anyone couldn’t help but smile. We all love you Gramma!

Jennie is survived by a son, Gene (Marlene) Jones of Wisconsin Dells; grandsons, Gene II of Wisconsin Dells and Jeffrey (Kelly) of Portage, Wisconsin and great grandchildren, Lindsay and Jordan. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lew, in 1954; 5 brothers and 5 sisters and a daughter in law.

Visitation will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church on Tuesday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at 1:00 P.M.

Therese Staniszewski

Therese Staniszewski, age 90 of Slidell, Louisiana, formerly of the Oxford/Dells area, died Monday, August 25, 2003 at her home in Slidell.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 28, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Picha Funeral Home in Lake Delton, with Father Felix Oehrlein officiating. Burial will be at Davis Corners cemetery, in Jackson Township, Wisconsin.

Therese was born May 27, 1913 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Albert and Rose (Pazynski) Klockowski. While Therese was married to her husband Peter, they ran Pete’s Country Store and Tavern, 6 miles west of Oxford on Highway 82, for 24 years.

Therese is survived by her son, Bob (Beverly) Staniszewski of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin and by her daughter, Bonnie (Tim) Adzomoah of Slidell, Louisiana. She is also survived by 10 Grandchildren and 26 Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

Visitation will be held at Picha Funeral Home in Lake Delton, Wisconsin on Thursday from 9:00 until the time of service at 11:00 A.M.

John Adney

John Adney, age 75 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin died Sunday, August 10, 2003 at the University Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.

Memorial funeral services will be held Thursday, August 14, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Dells with Reverend Dennis Schueler and Vicar Jonathan Vierkant co-officiating. According to his wishes John was cremated. Military rites will be provided by the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187 of Wisconsin Dells.

John was born March 28, 1928 in Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin the son of Floyd and Nora (Hestetune) Adney. Following high school John was inducted into the U.S. Army and after 2 years was honorably discharged. In March of 1954 he married Jane Madson in Kohler, Wisconsin. They lived in Milwaukee and John worked for 2 years for Greyhound Bus Lines. From 1956 he drove semi tractor trailer and retired in 1982. Following retirement he worked for the Dells Boat Company. John loved animals; was a member of the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187 of Wisconsin Dells and Teamsters Union Local 200 and he enjoyed bowling and golf.

John was loved and will be missed dearly by his wife, Jane; daughters, Nancy (Steven) Westfahl of Waterford, Wisconsin, Mary Rodriquez of Wisconsin Dells, Gail (Mark) Biedenbender of Colgate, Wisconsin and Marsha Adney of Green Bay, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Jessica and John Rodriquez, David (Stephanie) and James Biedenbender; great grandchildren, Alexia Rodriquez, Abraham Biedenbender and Mackenzie McDermott; and sisters, Dorothy (Stanley) Eggie of Sun City West, Arizona and Doris Coleman of Onalaska. John was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin sister, Mary Ellen; a brother, Nolan and son in law, John Rodriquez.

Visitation will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Thursday from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Trinity Lutheran Church New Addition Fund or to the charity of choice.

Erma Adams

Erma Adams, age 87 of Baraboo, Wisconsin formerly of Lake Delton, Wisconsin died peacefully Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at St. Clare Hospital of Baraboo with her family by her side.

Memorial funeral services will be held Sunday, August 10, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Wisconsin Dells with Reverend Diane Markevitch officiating. Her cremains will be interred at Lake Delton Village cemetery .

Erma was born September 30, 1915 in Baraboo, Wisconsin the daughter of Glen and Clista (Bower) Simons. She attended Baraboo and Wisconsin Dells Public Schools . She married Vincent “Tim” Murray in November of 1936 and he preceded her in death in September of 1975. She later married Mackey Adams in June of 1991. He also preceded her in death in 1994. Erma was a devoted and faithful member of her church and she loved and was loved by her family and extended family.

Erma is survived by a son, Vincent “Dale” Murray of Lake Delton; daughters, Donna (Greg) Georgeson of Reedsburg, Wisconsin and Clista McAllister of Lake Delton; grandchildren, Heather Churchill, Collin (Amy) McAllister and Matthew (Carrie) Georgeson; 4 great grandchildren; stepchildren, Carolyn (Jim) Craig, Lois (Gene) Droes and Mackey (Kathy) Adams; 7 step grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; a sister, Evaline Moon and a brother, Jack Simons.

Visitation will be held at Holy Cross Episcopal Church on Sunday, August 10, 2003 from 1 P.M. until the time of service at 2 P.M.

In lieu of flowers memorials of remembrance may be given to Holy Cross Episcopal Church or to the charity of choice.

Wendelin Janowiak

Wendelin Janowiak, age 58 of Lake Delton, Wisconsin died Sunday, February 8, 2004 at St. Clare Hospital of Baraboo, Wisconsin.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, February 12, 2004 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells with Reverend Andrzej K. Panek celebrating. Burial will be at Calvary cemetery in Wisconsin Dells.

Wendelin was born November 5, 19 45 in Poland the son of Vincent and Joanna (Lichosyt) Janowiak. He had been a member of the Polish army. In 1970 he married Anna Ziemianczyk. After moving to the Dells area he owned and operated the Evergreen Motel in Lake Delton . Wendelin was also active in the Wisconsin Dells Polish Club.

Wendelin is survived by his wife, Anna; stepparents, Wendelin and Julia Janowiak of Worth, Illinois; a son, Mirek (Paula) Janowiak and a daughter, Dorothy (Christopher) Larson both of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; brothers, Vince (Anna) of Wisconsin Dells, Frank and Stan both of Glendale, Arizona, John (Stella) of Burbank, Illinois, Emil (Jane) of Lemont, Illinois, and Albin (Irene) of Mesa, Arizona; sisters, Mary (Adam) Sliwa of Wisconsin Dells and Helen (Bruno) Kucek of Alsip, Illinois; and grandchildren, Cameron, Kyle and Nicholas. He was preceeded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held at St. Cecilia Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 from 4 to 8 P.M. and on Thursday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at 10:30 A.M.
