Hainke, Arlene C., age 88 passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 19, 2001 at Middleton Village Nursing Home. Arlene was born on July 25, 1912 in Richland County, WI the daughter of Orrin and Berda Robbins. She moved to Milwaukee in 1930, and in May 1948 she married Alvin Hainke. Arlene wrote poems to raise money to sell war bonds during WW II. Arlene was a devoted homemaker and mother. Survivors include her daughter: Louanne (Glenn) Szejna of Madison; two granddaughters: Allison and Stephanie of Madison; one brother Harold Robbins of Waterford, WI; a special nephew, Gerald Gaetske, a special friend Odessa Kruckenberg, and other friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alvin in 1996, 2 sisters, Maymie and Lula, and 2 brothers, Harvey and Elmer. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. (Noon) on Monday, July 23, 2001 at the Orchard Ridge United Church of Christ, 1501 Gilbert Road, Madison, WI, with Pastor Deborah Dean and Pastor Winton Boyd officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held from 10:30 A.M. until the service at 12:00 P.M. (noon) on Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Orchard Ridge United Church of Christ. The family would like to thank members of Orchard Ridge UCC with special thanks to Pastor Winton Boyd, Pastor Deborah Dean, Barb and John Olsen, Cherie and Bruce Olsen and Gretchen, Collin, Grace, and Isaac Olson. Miss me a little – but not too long, And not with your head bowed low, Remember the love that we once shared, Miss me – but let me go. For this is a journey we all must take, And each must go alone. It’s all a part of the Master’s plan, A step on the road to home.

Hanson, Scott Carl, age 37 died on June 11, 2001from complications of Juvenile Diabetes. He was born on November 1, 1963 the son of Donald and Karen (Moe) Hanson in Madison, WI. He graduated from JMM High School in 1982 and attended University of Stevens Point. Scott was a 1987 graduate from Wisconsin School of Electronics and at the top of class. Scott was a resident of Grinnell, Iowa and was employed by Iowa Telecom as an electronics technician. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports and he especially loved the Cubs. Scott is survived by his parents: Don and Karen Hanson of Madison, WI, his brother Steve Hanson of Cross Plains, WI, his sister Tami Munroe of Naperville, IL, nephews: Alex, Chase, and Spencer Munroe of Naperville, IL. His uncles: Odin (Alice) Hanson, Robert Hanson and Karl (Carol) Moe. Aunts: Alma Manion and Bonnie Sampson. And numerous cousins. Scott was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harry and Mina Hanson and maternal grandparents, Carl and Alma Moe and a brother-in-law, Jeff Munroe. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 15, 2001 at the Midvale Community Lutheran Church, 4329 Tokay Blvd., Madison. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. until time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or Midvale Community Lutheran Church.

Hanus, Mary Lou (Kirwan), age 74 died peacefully on Monday, May 14, 2001 at the Don and Marilyn Hospice Center. She was born on August 1, 1926 in Fargo, North Dakota. Mary Lou grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota and graduated from St. Catherine College School of Nursing in 1947. She married Robert Hanus in 1948 and lived in Wisconsin the rest of her life. Mary Lou was an active member of St. Paul Parish, Genesee Depot for 34 years, serving as President of Christian Mothers, Coordinator of Renew program, Parish Council member and Eucharistic Minister. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and her flower gardens. Her family and church were the center of her life. Mary Lou was the loving wife and best friend of Robert for 53 years. Beloved mother of Michael (Susan) of Milwaukee, Rita (Robert) Pultz of Madison, Carol (John) Carr of Madison, Leo (Terry) of Tipp City, Ohio, Joseph (Denise) of West Point, New York and Daniel of Seattle, Washington. Dear grandmother of Ben, Julie and Beth Hanus, Nicky and Kelly Hanus, George, Jack and Katie Carr, and Anna Hanus. She is further survived by cousins and many good friends. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, and her son Gregory. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, May 18, 2001 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Hwy 83 and D, Genesee Depot, WI with the Very Rev. Robert D. Gosma officiating. Burial will be held at St. Paul’s cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until time of service at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the: St. Paul School Library, Human Concerns projects or Women’s Shelters of Waukesha.

LaFlash, James W, age 44 died on Saturday, June 30, 2001 at his home. He was born December 1, 1956 in Madison, Wisconsin the son of Walter J. and Bernice Marie (Birrenkott) LaFlash, Jr..Jim had worked at A to Z Rental for several years, and later at Messner, Inc. as a salesman for five years. He liked purchasing and fixing cars-anything mechanical, and enjoyed movies and working on his computer. Survivors include, his mother, Bernice, l sister, Mary (Auric)Gold, l brother, Mark LaFlash, all of Madison, 2 sisters-in-law, Sue LaFlash, of Madison, and Sherri LaFlash, of Stoughton, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter, Jr., and two brothers, John and Steve. A Memorial funeral service will be held at the JOYCE-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 570l Odana Road, Madison, Wisconsin on Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. Friends may call from 5:00p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at the funeral home until the service time.

Magli, Richard Anthony, age 39 died at home on Sunday, July 15, 2001 from muscular dystrophy. He was born on September 9, 1961, the son of Richard Allen and Judith Magli. Richard was preceded in death by his mother Judith. Richard is survived by his father Richard Allen (Gloria) Magli of De Forest, sisters; Ellen Magli (and friend Mike) of Endeavor, Shirley Magli of Sun Prairie and his step sisters: Dawn Calvin (Weldon) of Milwaukee and Aimee Bunk (Jake) of St. Francis, his loving grandmother Genevieve Wilson of Richard Center, and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at the JOYCE-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 5701 Odana Road, Madison, with Father Daniel Volkert officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home.

MATTS, Amy B., age 78 passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2001 at the Lodi Good Samaritan Center. She was born on November 8, 1922, the daughter of Alphonse and Marie ( Luginbuhl) Berger, who moved here from Switzerland in 1922. The former Amy B. Berger was married to Casper D. Matts on October 31, 1946. Amy was a waitress and hostess for many years. One of Amy’s favorite pastimes was playing bingo. Survivors include: 3 children: one son, Robert (Pat) of Wheaton, Illinois, 2 daughters, Lois Mimetz of Montello and Susan (Russ) Fiene of Lodi, one sister Gertrude (William) Bigler of Belleville 7 grandchildren: Robert Jr. (Catherine) Matts, Rhonda Matts, Renea Matts, Darcy Mimetz, Damian Mimetz, Brianna Fiene and Bianca Fiene. Three great grandchildren: Trey, Salina and Skyler. Amy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Casper D. Matts in 1989, and her brother William Berger in 1943. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, August 6, 2001 at the JOYCE-RYAN VERONA FUNERAL HOME, 118 N. Franklin Street, Verona, with Pastor Don Wendt officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 5, 2001 at the funeral home, and also from 9:30 A.M. until time of services on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Verona cemetery.

Maurer, David I., age 55 died on Tuesday, June l2, 2001 at HospiceCare Center from cancer. He was born on December 26, 1945 in Oxford, England. He graduated from Madison East High School, Class of 64. After graduation he served in the Army, 1964-1987, retiring as a 1st Sgt. He attended DeKalb Community College in Georgia and received a two year associate degree. He served in Korea and Germany where he received many awards, metals and commendations. After retiring from the military, Dave assumed a job as a rural letter carrier for theU.S. Post Office and was well liked by his co-workers and customers on his route. David loved to travel, and he traveled all over the world. He is loved and will be missed by many. Survivors include, his mother, Glenys Maurer, of Verona, l sister, Judy and Dan Hansen, of Mt. Horeb, two brothers, Steve and Diane Maurer, of Verona, Robert and JoAnne Maurer, of Blue Mounds, five nephews, Brian and Jacob Maurer, of Blue Mounds, Adam Maurer, of Verona, Sean Boyes, of Arizona, Dan Hansen, of Mt. Horeb, l niece, Shelley Boyes, of Madison, two grand nephews, Tyler and Chase, of Madison. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert W. Maurer. Friends may call at the JOYCE-RYAN VERONA FUNERAL HOME, 118 N. Franklin St., Verona, Wi. from 4:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Arlington National cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. The Maurer family wishes to give special thanks for the care and compassion shown Dave and his family from the staff at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center. McGinnis Sr., Joseph Neil, age 86, died on June 2, 2001 at his home in Madison. He was born on April 24, 1915 in Memphis, Tennessee to Joseph L. and Flossie (Monroe) McGinnis. He was united in marriage to Harriet Birmingham in 1942. He earned Bachelor of Arts from DePaul University and MBA from the Executive Program at the University of Chicago. During WWII, Joe was the commandant of Medical Officer Schools at Marquette University and the University of Illinois. He ranked as Captain AGD. He held positions as corporate manager of the Food Service Division of Oscar Mayer Foods in Madison, WI, Vice President of Pfaelzer Brothers in Chicago, IL, and President of Stark Wetzel Company in Indianapolis, IN also he worked in the marketing department of Sams Club in Madison until the age of 75. He served on the board of directors of Pfaelzer Brothers, Frazier Engineering and Edgewood High School. Joe was a professional consultant to Sam’s Club, Frazier Engineering and Jay-Em Engraving. Joe also taught business and marketing courses at Madison Junior College of Business and Madison Area Technical College for 24 years. In addition to his wife, Harriet, he is survived by his sister; Mary R. Habetler of Phoenix, AZ, 5 Children; Elizabeth (Thomas) Strodtman of Indianapolis, IN, Mary McGinnis of Middleton, Barbara (Richard) Moake of Brewster, NY, Joseph McGinnis Jr. of Lakeland, FL and Charles (Patricia) McGinnis of Madison; 8 Grandchildren; 1 Great Grandson; 1 Cousin; Joseph was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE, 405 So. Owen Drive, on Wednesday, June 6, 2001 at 11:00a.m. Burial will be held at Resurrection Catholic cemetery. Friends may call the JOYCE-RYAN FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, June 5, 2001 from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at church on Wednesday, June 6, 2001 from 10:00a.m. until the time of service.

Otterson, Lorraine “Lollie”, age 77 died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 28, 2001. She was born on March 4th, 1924 in Little Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Walter and Kostonsia Gustiae (Wozniak) Andrewjeski. She graduated from Little Falls High School. She met her future husband, Edward “Buzz” Otterson at the Ray-O-Vac Corporation assisting in the development of Mercury Cell batteries for Walkie-Talkies used in World War II. They were married on September 7, 1946 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Madison. Lollie was an active member of St. James Catholic Church, National Catholic Forresters Association, Polish Heritage Club, Friends of the Arboretum, Neighborhood House, and several card clubs. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, baking, canning, crafts, traveling, dancing, and card playing. Lorraine Otterson is survived by two sons, James Otterson, of Randolph, Wisconsin, Scott Otterson, of Madison, a daughter Julie (John) Ellis, of San Diego, California, eight grandchildren, James, John, Erik, Kristen and Erin Otterson, and Audrey, Johnny and Amy Ellis; many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. She is also survived by two sisters, Stella Brusseau and Marion Solberg, two brothers, John and Edmund Andrewjeski. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Buzz, and two brothers, Louis and Victor Andrewjeski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. James Catholic Church, 1134 St. James Court, on Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at 10:30 a.m.. The Rev. Douglas Dushack will officiate with burial in Resurrection cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2001 at the Joyce-Ryan Funeral Home where a rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also call at the Church on Tuesday, July 3, 2001 after 9:30 a.m. until the service time.

Roley, Joanne Helen, age 68 of Madison, Wisconsin, died August 7, 2001 peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. Joanne was born November 4, 1932 in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Clinton and Helen Nelson of Mauston, Wisconsin. Joanne completed her Registered Nursing degree at LaCrosse, Wisconsin’s St. Frances School of Nursing in 1954. She practiced as a nurse and community volunteer for twenty-five years. Joanne married Everett L. Roley of St. Joseph, Missouri on June 11, 1956 and recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary this past June. Joanne was the devoted mother of five children. She was an avid gardener and throughout her life enjoyed volunteer work, tennis and attending her children’s hockey games. Joanne had an exquisite talent and passion for needlepoint. She was a wonderful wife and loving mother and is survived by her husband Everett and her children: Kevin (Kate Skaggs) of Watertown, Wisconsin; Gregory (Dolce) of Pensacola, Florida; Amy (Murphy Anderson) of Denver, Colorado; Thomas of Bryant, Wisconsin; and Mary Beth (Sharon Lim) of Madison. Joanne was also a proud grandmother, “Go-go” of four grand children: Kaitlyn, 11; Zachary, 8; Madeline, 6; and Sean, 3. Joanne is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Nancy Jo and Gerald Nelson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 10, 2001 at St Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 5313 Flad Ave. at 11:00am, with a visitation at 10:00am.Rev. Steven Kortendick will officiate. The family asks that a memorial be made to Smoke Free Wisconsin at 329 W. Wilson St., Madison, WI 53703

Teslaw, Elizabeth Mamie age 90 of Waunakee died on July 20, 2001. Elizabeth was born in Milwaukee to John and Stella Kantak May 18, 1911. She Married Theodore (Ted) Teslaw in 1937 and moved to Madison where they lived until their retirement in 1974. They moved to Sun City, Arizona until Ted’s death in 1978. Elizabeth then moved back to Madison to be near her son Richard (Patricia) Teslaw. Elizabeth was a member of St. James Catholic Church where she cooked hot lunch and for special occasions for many years. She was an avid reader and was a pro at crossword puzzles. She said, “they keep my mind sharp.” A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. at St. James Catholic Church, 1134 St. James Ct., Madison, on Tuesday, July 24, 2001. The Rev. Douglas Dushack will officiate with burial in Resurrection cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday, July 24, 2001 after 10:00am until the service. We would like to thank Dr. Robert Gage and all the staff at the Waunakee Manor Health Care Center for providing the care needed for mom for the past 7 years. We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful facility to care for the elderly in our community. The staff of Waunakee Manor that cares for the residents are the real heroes in life and we want to thank them for the loving care given to my mother during her stay there.

Twito, Janice Irene (Gleason), age 57 passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2001 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Madison. She was born on May 31, 1944 in Madison, WI the daughter of Lloyd L. and Marilynn Gleason. Janice worked in Madison for U.W. Hospitals, Wisconsin State Social Services, and CUNA for (25 years). Janice is survived by her husband Thomas and their two children: Jeffrey and Stephanie, parents Lloyd L. and Marilynn Gleason, brother Lloyd T. Gleason, sisters Marcia (Alden) Bahr and Barbara Troedel, sisters in law, Joanne Twito, Susan (Richard) Radock, and Karen (Jerry) Jackson, and brother in law, Steven (Sandy) Twito and many cousins, nieces and nephews and a grand niece. A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, July 13, 2001 at Roselawn Memorial Park cemetery, 601 E. Broadway Street, Monona with Pastor Sheryl Erickson officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at the Joyce-Ryan Funeral Home, 5701 Odana Road, Madison. The family would like to express a special thank you to nurse Terry McSherry for special care and compassion to Janice and the family, the other duty nurses of the Medical Intensive Care Unit for their heroic efforts and the many doctors of the St. Mary’s staff who so graciously aided Janice and the family through this most difficult time.
