Drewsen, Chase G., age 16 was welcomed home to the loving arms of God on Tuesday, August, 28, 2001 after a long struggle with depression. Chase was born on April 9, 1985 in Madison, Wisconsin. He is survived by his loving parents Greg and Sherry Drewsen, a brother Nick and a sister Whitney, paternal grandmother Dolly Drewsen, maternal grandparents, Jerry and Kay Young. Aunts, uncles and cousins; Tim and Ann Lawler and Christopher and Meredith; Mark and Donna Staples and Emily; Laurie Drewsen; Drs Larry and Suzanne Drewsen, Mitchell, Camryn and Jack; Todd and Connie Schrom, Amanda, Jessica, Abby, Michael; Len and Maureen Drewsen; Randall and Kathy Jaeger, Logan, Austin; Greg and Deb Jones and Allison and Michael. Chase is also survived by many friends who along with his family loved and supported him throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Curley Drewsen. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 1, 2001 at the SALEM UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 502 Mark Drive, Verona with Rev. Dr. Mark Yurs officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Friday, August 31, 2001 at the JOYCE-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 5701 Odana Road, Madison, and also from 10:00 A.M. until time of services at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Edgewood High School – counseling department. The Edgewood Community was one where Chase found care and acceptance. Memorials may also be sent to Fishing Unlimited – Tomahawk Chapter. Chase had a passion for Northern Wisconsin and fishing.

Foley, Gerald Michael, age 81, formerly of Janesville and Verona died Sunday May 20, 2001. He was born in Halifax Nova Scotia, Canada on December 4, 1919. He served in the United States Air Force in World War II as a Radio-Gunner on a B 25 Bomber in the 321st Bombardment Group. He flew fifty-two missions in Africa, Sicily, Italy, and throughout the Southern European Theatre in the 12th Air Force. He was awarded 3 Bronze Stars for the Tunisian, Sicilian, and Italian Campaigns. He received the Air Medal, Eighth Oak Leaf Cluster; European African and Middle East Campaign Ribbon; and the Distinguished Unit Badge. He returned to the states as a Combat Trainer at Truax Field in Madison. He married the former Ruth Ryan on June 17, 1944. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1949, with a Bachelors in Business Administration. He was a resident of Janesville from 1949 - 1995. He then moved near his grandchildren in Verona and lived there through April of this year. He worked in the family highway construction industry throughout his career with P. W. Ryan Construction Co., Robert W. Ryan Construction Co., and Ryan Inc. located in Janesville. He is survived by his daughter, Maureen Foley of Milwaukee, son Robert (Shawn) of Atlanta, and son Michael (Barbara) of Madison; five grandchildren plus twins expected in September and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Irene Foley and his beloved wife Ruth Ryan Foley. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary's Health Care Center for their compassionate care of Dad and Grandpa. A private memorial service will be held for the immediate family. Memorials can be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or the American Cancer Society.

Forbes, Catherine of Madison – age 95, died Tuesday, October 16, 2001, at the Hospice Care Center, (previous to residing at Four Winds Manor in Verona). She was an angel here on earth and we will miss her dearly. Catherine was born September 2, 1906, to Daniel and Mary L. (Lawler) Hewitt. She grew up in Spring Green on the family farm where she began her love of gardening. While attending St. Mary’s Academy in Altoona, WI, she once wrote an English paper that was representative of the school, which was later sent to Washington, D.C. After coming to Madison, she met and married Edward Forbes. Catherine’s love and caring had shown through in so many ways, especially when it came to children. She enjoyed taking care of and pampering children. She did this beginning in 1926 and continued until 1988 when an injury sadly ended this career. She also enjoyed playing cards and games with her family. Her home always made you feel like you were wrapped in a nice warm hug. She loved cooking and pampering her guests. Catherine’s love and caring for people was never ending, she was a beautiful person and a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Catherine is survived by three children: Edward (Patricia) Forbes; Sharon Parkinson; John Forbes, all of Madison; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson Curtis Parkinson in 1992; her husband in 1972; and 3 siblings. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2131 Rowley Ave., at 10:30am on Friday, October 19, 2001. Rev. Stanley Drongowski, O.P. will officiate. Burial will be at Resurrection Catholic cemetery. The visitation will be from 4:00pm until 7:00pm Thursday, October 18, 2001 at the JOYCE-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 5701 Odana Road.

Geiger, Donald Henry, age 85, died on Tuesday evening, June 19, 2001. Donald, a life time resident of Verona, was born November 10, 1915 to Henry and Rose (Andrea) Geiger. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Loretta. He loved having his family visit him, the garden and playing cards in later years. Donald was a 3rd degree Knights of Columbus, #531. He served on the School Board for 25 years, the Farm Bureau Board and Board of Directors for Danco F.S. Donald also delivered meals on wheels, helped transport goods for St. Vincent DePaul, along with many other charitable works. Survivors include his five children, Rose Ellen Geiger, of Neshkoro, JoAnn Frederickson, of Madison, Donna (Victor) Tortorici, of Verona, Virginia Geiger, of Dodgeville, and Paul Geiger, of Verona, five grandchildren, Dee Ripp, Darla Steinborn, Lori (Steve) Frederickson, Lee (Chris) Frederickson and Paulette Berg, and ten great-grandchildren, his sister, Ester Baach, of Michigan, his brother, Richard (Beth) Geiger, of Oregon and his sister-in-law, Elaine Geiger, of Verona. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his sister Pearl Pertzborn, his brother Marvin Geiger and a great-grandchild, Danial Stevens. Funeral services will be held at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Verona, Wi. at l0:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2001, with Father John G. Stillmank officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 22, 2001 at the JOYCE-RYAN VERONA FUNERAL HOME, 118 N. Franklin St., Verona, Wi. where a prayer service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be in St. Andrew’s cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare, Inc., 5395 East Cheryl Parkway, Madison, Wisconsin 53711.

Glenn, Pauline F. age 89 died peacefully at Hospice Care, on Sunday, October 21, 2001. She was born in Marengo, Iowa on November 27, 1911 to Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Glenn. She was the fifth child and had a twin, Paul, who died in infancy. She arrived in Madison when she was seventeen years old to help her older sister, Mrs. Betty (Dorsey) Botham with her first set of twins and then made Madison her home. She was employed at the Wisconsin Foundry and Machine Company for many years and then worked at EIP (Electrical Information Publication) and the Industrial Commission until she retired in 1976. She developed many friendships that she maintained when she lived at the Colonial Lodge in her younger days. She had been a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and later joined Queen of Peace when she lived on Sawyer Terrace. She had been cared for at Hospice during her last two and a half months and the family wishes to thank all who gave her such wonderful care. She commented every day about how much she appreciated their care, love and concern. She loved you all! The legacy will be her wonderful wit and humor which she maintained until the end. She faced her death with courage and grace. She is survived by 27 nieces and nephews and many grand and great grand nieces and nephews. Those in town include: Mr. And Mrs. D.J. Botham, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Botham, Mrs. Ruth Ellen Rodgers and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Raemisch. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 24, 2001 at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 South Owen Drive, Madison with Father Dan Volkert officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:15 A.M. until time of services at the church. Burial will be held at Resurrection Catholic cemetery.

Grady, Mrs. Ruth E. age 86 passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2001 at the Hospice Care Center in Fitchburg. Ruth was born on July 11, 1915 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Edward and Louise (Brenneisen) Neumann. Survivors include: her husband Daniel C. Grady of Madison, three sisters: Thelma Auger of Marshall, WI, Dorothy (Roy) Scott and Kathryn (Hugh) Sutton both of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada; a brother Donald H. Neumann of Milwaukee, WI. She is also survived by step children: Marie A. Fenske of Phoenix, AZ and Daniel H. Grady of East Troy, WI. and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Thursday, October 18, 2001 at the JOYCE-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 5701 Odana Road, Madison with Father Douglas Dushack officiating. Friends may call from 12:30 P.M. until time of services on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Resurrection Catholic cemetery.

Haak, Hildegarde Angeline, age 86, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2001, at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was a lifelong Madison resident. Hildegarde attended St. James Catholic Grade School and West High School, graduating in 1931. She worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for over 40 years and retired as office manager in 1976. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, serving as Director for the Resurrection (Funeral) Choir, and coordinator of the vineyards senior program for many years. She was a member of Madison Catholic Women’s Club, The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and the National Order of Foresters. Hildegarde will be deeply missed. She is lovingly survived by her brother, Frances E. (Berenice H.) Quinn of Potomac, Maryland and their three sons, Richard (Diane) of San Diego, California, Ronald (Sharon) of Potomac, Maryland, and Randall of Washington, D.C. She is also survived by numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Helen (Newel) Haak and her sister Clara. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 14, 2001 at BLESSED SACRAMENT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2131 Rowley Ave, Madison, WI. Burial will be in Resurrection Catholic cemetery. Friends may call after 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Saturday at the church.

Hainke, Arlene C., age 88 passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 19, 2001 at Middleton Village Nursing Home. Arlene was born on July 25, 1912 in Richland County, WI the daughter of Orrin and Berda Robbins. She moved to Milwaukee in 1930, and in May 1948 she married Alvin Hainke. Arlene wrote poems to raise money to sell war bonds during WW II. Arlene was a devoted homemaker and mother. Survivors include her daughter: Louanne (Glenn) Szejna of Madison; two granddaughters: Allison and Stephanie of Madison; one brother Harold Robbins of Waterford, WI; a special nephew, Gerald Gaetske, a special friend Odessa Kruckenberg, and other friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alvin in 1996, 2 sisters, Maymie and Lula, and 2 brothers, Harvey and Elmer. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. (Noon) on Monday, July 23, 2001 at the Orchard Ridge United Church of Christ, 1501 Gilbert Road, Madison, WI, with Pastor Deborah Dean and Pastor Winton Boyd officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held from 10:30 A.M. until the service at 12:00 P.M. (noon) on Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Orchard Ridge United Church of Christ. The family would like to thank members of Orchard Ridge UCC with special thanks to Pastor Winton Boyd, Pastor Deborah Dean, Barb and John Olsen, Cherie and Bruce Olsen and Gretchen, Collin, Grace, and Isaac Olson. Miss me a little – but not too long, And not with your head bowed low, Remember the love that we once shared, Miss me – but let me go. For this is a journey we all must take, And each must go alone. It’s all a part of the Master’s plan, A step on the road to home.

Hanson, Scott Carl, age 37 died on June 11, 2001from complications of Juvenile Diabetes. He was born on November 1, 1963 the son of Donald and Karen (Moe) Hanson in Madison, WI. He graduated from JMM High School in 1982 and attended University of Stevens Point. Scott was a 1987 graduate from Wisconsin School of Electronics and at the top of class. Scott was a resident of Grinnell, Iowa and was employed by Iowa Telecom as an electronics technician. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports and he especially loved the Cubs. Scott is survived by his parents: Don and Karen Hanson of Madison, WI, his brother Steve Hanson of Cross Plains, WI, his sister Tami Munroe of Naperville, IL, nephews: Alex, Chase, and Spencer Munroe of Naperville, IL. His uncles: Odin (Alice) Hanson, Robert Hanson and Karl (Carol) Moe. Aunts: Alma Manion and Bonnie Sampson. And numerous cousins. Scott was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harry and Mina Hanson and maternal grandparents, Carl and Alma Moe and a brother-in-law, Jeff Munroe. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 15, 2001 at the Midvale Community Lutheran Church, 4329 Tokay Blvd., Madison. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. until time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or Midvale Community Lutheran Church.

Hanus, Mary Lou (Kirwan), age 74 died peacefully on Monday, May 14, 2001 at the Don and Marilyn Hospice Center. She was born on August 1, 1926 in Fargo, North Dakota. Mary Lou grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota and graduated from St. Catherine College School of Nursing in 1947. She married Robert Hanus in 1948 and lived in Wisconsin the rest of her life. Mary Lou was an active member of St. Paul Parish, Genesee Depot for 34 years, serving as President of Christian Mothers, Coordinator of Renew program, Parish Council member and Eucharistic Minister. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and her flower gardens. Her family and church were the center of her life. Mary Lou was the loving wife and best friend of Robert for 53 years. Beloved mother of Michael (Susan) of Milwaukee, Rita (Robert) Pultz of Madison, Carol (John) Carr of Madison, Leo (Terry) of Tipp City, Ohio, Joseph (Denise) of West Point, New York and Daniel of Seattle, Washington. Dear grandmother of Ben, Julie and Beth Hanus, Nicky and Kelly Hanus, George, Jack and Katie Carr, and Anna Hanus. She is further survived by cousins and many good friends. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, and her son Gregory. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, May 18, 2001 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Hwy 83 and D, Genesee Depot, WI with the Very Rev. Robert D. Gosma officiating. Burial will be held at St. Paul’s cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until time of service at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the: St. Paul School Library, Human Concerns projects or Women’s Shelters of Waukesha.

Hauser, Ruth Marie, age 81 died peacefully on Monday August 27, 2001 at the Willow’s Nursing Home in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. She was born on October 12, 1919, in Madison, Wisconsin, the daughter of Lee and Veronica (Kleinheinz) Cripps. Marie was married to Norbert Hauser on December 13, 1943, and he preceded her in death on February 1, 1973. Marie worked many years at Meriter Hospital. She is survived by two sisters, LaVern Gallagher and Jeanette Zinc, both of whom reside in Washington State. Marie resided with her niece’s family, Mare Banuelos (Schmitz) and Martin, Heather and Matthew Banuelos for the last ten years in Morrisonville, Wisconsin. Friends may call at the JOYCE-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 570l Odana Road, from 4:00p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2001. Burial will be held at Resurrection cemetery, 2705 Regent Street, Madison, Wisconsin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2001 with Msgr. Michael Hippee officiating.

Hosely, Henry age 91, of Verona died on Sunday, October 14, 2001 at the Skaalen Home in Stoughton. He was born on September 18, 1910 in Rock County the son of Henry and Martha (Hensel) Hosely. He has been a long time Verona area resident. He worked as a farm hand in the Dairy Industry and was a former member of the C.C.C. during W.W. II. He is survived by 2 brothers: Baltz (Elizabeth) Hosely of Madison, and Harold (June) Hosely of Sun Prairie; 3 sisters: Elizabeth (Morris) Trow of Stoughton, Leona Derr of Evansville and Edith Savin of Rockford, IL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, 6 sisters and 2 infant sisters. Funeral services will be at Noon on Wednesday, October 17, 2001 at the JOYCE-RYAN-VERONA FUNERAL HOME, 118 N. Franklin St., Verona with Rev. Al Braunschweig officiating. Burial will follow at Verona cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Kretschman, Mary Elizabeth, age 88 died on Saturday, November 3, 2001 at Badger Prairie Health Care Center. She was born June 13, 1913 in Madison, Wisconsin the daughter of Michael and Margaret (Lynaugh) Feeney. Survivors include, her husband, Clarence “Chet” Kretschman, of Verona, a son, Thomas J. Kretschman, of Verona, a daughter-in-law, Carole L. Kretschman, of Madison, a grandson, John (Reena) Kretschman, of Verona, three granddaughters, Julie (Brad) Frederick, of Middleton, Jennifer (Dana) Fichtner, of Janesville, Kathleen Kretschman, of Madison. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Michael, and three brothers, John (Jack), William and Michael (Toby) Feeney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 405 S. Owen Drive, Madison, Wisconsin on Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. Msgr. Kenneth Fiedler will officiate with entombment in Resurrection cemetery. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at the Church until the service time. A special thank you to the staff at Badger Prairie and Oakwood Nursing Homes for their compassionate care.

LaFlash, James W, age 44 died on Saturday, June 30, 2001 at his home. He was born December 1, 1956 in Madison, Wisconsin the son of Walter J. and Bernice Marie (Birrenkott) LaFlash, Jr..Jim had worked at A to Z Rental for several years, and later at Messner, Inc. as a salesman for five years. He liked purchasing and fixing cars-anything mechanical, and enjoyed movies and working on his computer. Survivors include, his mother, Bernice, l sister, Mary (Auric) Gold, l brother, Mark LaFlash, all of Madison, 2 sisters-in-law, Sue LaFlash, of Madison, and Sherri LaFlash, of Stoughton, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter, Jr., and two brothers, John and Steve. A Memorial funeral service will be held at the JOYCE-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 570l Odana Road, Madison, Wisconsin on Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. Friends may call from 5:00p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at the funeral home until the service time.
