Wilma B. Larson

Wilma B. Larson, age 94, of Mt. Horeb, WI, died on Sunday, June 09, 2002 at Meriter Park Hospitall in Madison.

Wilma was born on January 7, 1908 in Springfield, IL to Dr. H.J. and Pearl (Baugh) Siebert. She married Robert H. Larson on August 8, 1972 in Mt. Horeb, WI. She loved the outdoors, birds, hunting, and gardening. She was a Red Cross volunteer for many years. She was a member of Perry Lutheran Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Girl Scouts of America and the Milwaukee County Geological Society founder.

She is survived by: her husband, Robert; 2 daughters: Lizbette Cox of Mt. Lake Terrace, WA and Judy A. Cox of Portland, Oregon; 4 stepsons: Robert P. (Bobbie A.) Larson of Mt. Horeb, Thomas J. (Paula) Larson of Barneveld, Jon M. (Pamela L.) Larson of Mt. Horeb, and Douglas V. (Karen) Larson of Rathdrum, ID; 16 Grandchildren and 14 Great- Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Orville M. Cox in 1965, and 3 brothers.

Memorial Services are scheduled at 10:30 am Thursday, June 13, 2002 at Perry Lutheran Church with Rev. Jonathon Kosec officiating. The Ellestad Funeral Home, Mt. Horeb, is serving the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Perry Lutheran Church.

Marie M. Sullivan

Marie M. Sullivan, age 89, of Pine Bluff, died on Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at Meriter Park Hospital in Madison, WI. The former Marie M. Lorden was born July 23, 1912 in Chicago, IL to Raymond C. and Mary (O'Leary) Lorden.

She married the late John "Vince" Sullivan in June 1940, in Chicago, IL. She purchased the family farm in 1944 while Vince was overseas during WWII. Vince died in 1973. She wintered in Venice, FL. She was a member of St. Mary's of Pine Bluff Catholic Church, and its Council of Catholic Women, of which she was past president.

Survivors include: sons: John (Diana) Sullivan and Ray (Bonnie) Sullivan, both of Mt. Horeb; 7 Grandchildren, 3 Great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Mass will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 15, 2002 at St. Mary's of Pine Bluff Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel Volkert officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, June 14, 2002 at the Ellestad Funeral Home, 500 N. 8th St., Mt. Horeb, WI. Also from 10 am until time of services on Saturday.

Elizabeth A. (Betty) Ziegler

Elizabeth A. "Betty" (Niesen) Ziegler, age 68, of Blue Mounds, WI, died on Thursday, June 13, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, WI, surrounded by her family.

She was born August 26, 1933, in Martinsville, WI to Frank and Eva (Statz) Niesen. She married Clarence Ziegler on November 25, 1952 in Martinsville, WI. They farmed in the Mt. Vernon and Blue Mounds area for many years. While farming Betty also worked at Club 18 and Schubert's restaurant. She was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Mt. Horeb, WI.

Survivors include: Her children: Linda (Robert) Piper of Evansville, Sandy (her friend, Ken) Skornicka of Blue Mounds, Clarence Jr. (Chris) Ziegler of Dodgeville, Kevin (Helena) Ziegler of Mt. Horeb, and Dennis (his friend, Heather) Ziegler of Middleton; 12 Grandchildren; 4 Great-Grandchildren; sisters: Dolores Dohm of Lodi and Rita (Joe) Kaltenberg of DeForest; brothers: Robert (Karen) Niesen of Waunakee and Frank Niesen of Cross Plains; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence on April 19, 2002, her parents, her son: Stephen Ziegler, and 2 Grandchildren: Sarah and Zachery Ziegler.

Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled at 10:30 am on Monday, June 17, 2002 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Mt. Horeb, WI, with Fr. Paul Arinze officiating. Burial will be at St. James Catholic cemetery in Vermont Township, WI. Friends may call from 3 to 6 pm on Sunday, June 16, 2002 at The Ellestad Funeral Home, 500 N. 8th St., Mt. Horeb, WI.

Frank Fridono (Fratantuono) Junior

Frank Fridono (Fratantuono) Junior, 70, of Mount Horeb passed on to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Monday, June 17, 2002 at UW Hospital in Madison.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 8, 1932, to Mary (Mollerdino) Fratantuono and Francesco Fratantuono. Frank was in the top percentile of his high school class and graduated at the age of 16. He attended college and became a carpenter contractor and owned his own construction business. He enjoyed flamenco dancing, Spanish music, boxing, cracking jokes, fishing, loved to garage sale and took pleasure in eating homemade Italian food.

His parents, brother, Angelo and Dominico, preceded Frank in death.

He is survived by: his brother, Rocco Fridono; wife: Mary Ann (Jackie) Fridono; Daughter: Mary Ann (Kerry) Huebner of Hoffman Estates, IL, Cathileen Ball of Middleton, and Linda and Brian Rothenburger of Deforest; Son: Frank (Janine) Fridono III of Barneveld; nine grandchildren and four Great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Ellestad Funeral Home, 500 N. 8th St., Mt. Horeb, WI, on Wednesday, June 19, 2002 from 2 to 5 pm and 6-9 pm. Funeral service will commence at Church of the Risen Savior in Mt. Horeb, WI, on Thursday, June 20, 2002 at 10 am with Pastor Bob Lee officiating. Burial will be at Oakhill cemetery in Springdale Township, WI. We would like to thank the health care providers for the wonderful care given to our Dad and husband.

We love you Dad and Grandpa.

Orren M. Fehling

Orren M. Fehling, age 78, of Mt. Horeb, WI, died on Thursday, June 27, 2002 at the VA Hospital in Madison. Orren was born October 21, 1923, in Juneau, WI to Milton and Edna (Schumacher) Fehling.

He was a Navy veteran have served during during WWII. He married the former Dorothea M. Thompson on February 14, 1948 in Hopkins, MN. He was very active in AA. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Horeb.

Survivors are: his wife, Dorothea; three children: Mark (Joan Smith) Fehling of Minneapolis, MN; Kathryn Marking of Verona; and Richard Fehling of Walnut Creek, CA; three Grandchildren: Jeremy Marking and Natalie Marking both of Verona, and Elena Fehling of Minneapolis, MN; a brother: Kenneth (Gladys) Fehling of Sarasota, FL; two sisters: Ellen Anderson of Barbara (Robert) Sabatke both of Minneapolis, MN; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters: Betty Lovaas and Marjorie Williams.

A memorial service is scheduled at 3:00 pm on Monday, July 1, 2002 at Ellestad Funeral Home, 500 N. 8th St., Mt. Horeb. A gathering of family and friends will be after 2:00 pm until time of service at the funeral home.

Berdell M. Opsal

Berdell M. Opsal, age 79, of Mt. Horeb, died on Sunday, May 5, 2002 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Lodi, WI. The former Berdell Camren was born on July 30, 1922 in Dane County to Odell and Pearl (Olson) Camren.

She married Alvie A. Opsal on November 2, 1962. He died on June 1, 1996. She was a clerk for the State of Wisconsin at the Adjutant General Office for 20 years.

She was a member of Mt. Horeb Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Survivors include sons: Tom (Mary) Lynch of Lodi, Jim (Sharon) Lynch of Howell, Michigan and Gerry (Janet) Lynch of Edmunton, Alberta, Canada; step-daughters: Pat Munz of Verona and Linda Tasso of Madison; A step-son: Michael (Judy) Opsal of Verona; 15 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren; brothers: LeRoy (Ruth) Camren of Deforest, Harold (Myrtle) Camren of Madison and Wayne (Roxanne) Camren of Sheldon; and a sister: Dorothy (Jim) Gullickson of Marshall.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother: Pete Camren.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 9, 2002 at Mt. Horeb Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Mark Gulbrand officiating. Burial will be at Verona cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at the Ellestad Funeral Home, 500 N. 8th St., Mt. Horeb. Memorials can be sent to: Good Samaritan Center, C/O Special Care Unit, 700 Clark St., Lodi, WI 53555.

Evelyn Cooper

Evelyn Cooper, age 88 of Black Earth, WI died on Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at the Sauk Prairie Hospital in Prairie du Sac, WI.

The former H. Evelyn Sutcliffe was born March 16, 1914 in Vermont Township, WI to Ernest & Louise (Marquardt) Sutcliffe. She married Raymond J. Cooper on July 30, 1938 at St. Raphael's Cathedral in Madison. Raymond died November 5, 1986.

Evelyn graduated from Black Earth High School and also from UW-Platteville with a teaching degree. She taught at several one room schools: Marxville School, Danz School, Farview School and Speedway School. After the one school room closed, she taught special education at the Mazomanie School, Arena School, Lone Rock School and the Black Earth School. She was a member of the Black Earth United Methodist Church, the Black Earth Historical Society and the Black Earth High School Association.

She is survived by her 3 sons: Dennis (Ann) Cooper of Rockford, Illinois; David Cooper of Black Earth, and Dean (Jolene) Cooper of Lodi; 5 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and a great granddaughter; a brother, Leslie (Alvira) Sutcliffe, and a sister Lucille (Theron) Thorson both of Black Earth.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and 6 brothers and sisters.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 11, 2002 at the Black Earth United Methodist Church with Rev. Andy Husband officiating. Burial will be at the St. Barnabas Catholic cemetery in Mazomanie. Friends may call from 4-7 PM on Friday, May 10, 2002 at the Ellestad Black Earth Funeral Home, 1337 Mills Street.

Alice Katherine Blumer

Alice Katherine Blumer, age 85, of Mount Horeb, died on Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at Meriter Park Hospital. She was born August 14, 1916, to Casper and Edna Julson near Osseo in Trempealeau County, WI.

She was baptized and confirmed at King's Valley Lutheran Church. She was a soloist and sang in the choir and later worked as a hired helper after moving to Dane County. She was married to Harold Blumer at the Mount Horeb parsonage on July 18, 1939. They farmed in the Belleville, New Glarus, Madison, Cobb, and Blue Mounds areas for 40 years, retiring to Black Earth in 1980. She moved to the Ingle Retirement Community in March 1999.

She is survived by her six children: Donna of Cross Plains, Alan (Elaine) of Mazomanie, James (Fran) of Florence, Carol (John) McGhee of Milledgeville, Georgia; Marvin of Madison, and Kathryn (Steven)Luecke of Waunakee; brother James (Donna) Julson of Osseo; sister Margaret Thorson of Whitehall; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; Harold, her parents, brothers: Kenneth and Clifford, and sisters: Hazel and Elva.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 18, 2002 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Black Earth. With Rev. Dan Odden officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Horeb Union cemetery. Friends and family may call on Friday evening, May 17, 2002, from 5-8pm at the Ellestad Funeral Home in Mount Horeb and from 10-11 am on Saturday, May 18, 2002, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Black Earth.

Irene G. Mani

Irene G. Mani, age 87, of Verona, WI died on Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at Four Winds Manor in Verona. The former Irene Gust was born on September 29, 1914 in Springdale Township, WI to Rudolph and Jennie (Thorton) Gust. She married Russell C. Mani on February 6, 1937. Russell died June 24, 1999.

She was a clerk for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for many years. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, and a past member of the Verona Square Dance Club.

She is survived by: her daughter: Muriel "Marji" (James) Stephens of Verona; her granddaughter: Jennifer (her fiance: Joseph Frisbie) Stephens, also of Verona; 3 Great Grandchildren: Peace Stephens, Anastasia and Lyle "Trey" Bedward, A sister: Edna Kuehni, of New Glarus.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 brothers: Ralph and Edgar Gust, and a sister: Mildred Baker.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 18, 2002 at the Salem United Church of Christ with Rev. Mark Yurs officiating. Burial will be at Verona cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to8 PM on Friday, May 17, 2002 at the Ellestad Funeral Home, 500 N. 8th St., Mt. Horeb, WI. and also from 10:00 AM till time of services on Saturday at the Salem United Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, donations preferred to Salem United Church of Christ, Hospice Care Inc, or donor's choice.

Weltha E. Mackler

Verona - Weltha E. Mackler, age 77 of Verona, WI died on Saturday, August 3. 2002 at her home surrounded by her family. The former Weltha Elizabeth Clark was born July 31, 1925 in Evansville, WI to Andrew & Rose (Wealti) Clark. Weltha was married to Frank J. Mackler, Jr. on August 9, 1944 at the Salem United Church of Christ in Verona, WI. They farmed in Verona-Springdale area. Mr. Mackler died February 24, 2001. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Verona, of its Women's Guild, the Royal Neighbors of America and the Mt. Horeb Swiss Club.

Weltha is survived by, her son: Michael (Pam) Mackler of Verona, her daughter: Pat (Harry) McCarthy of Madison, a grandson: A.J. Mackler; 5 step grandchildren: Chris, Chad & Carrie Meyer, Sean (Sandy) McCarthy, Megan McCarthy, her sister: Joyce McCollough of Westport, her brother-in-law: Werner (Mary) Mackler of Springdale Township, her sister-in-law: Anna Burch of Charleston, SC and many cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Frank, and her sister: Rose Marie Messerschmidt.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 7, 2002 at the Salem United Church of Christ, Verona with Rev. Mark Yurs officiating. Burial will be in the Verona cemetery. Friends may call from 3-7 PM on Tuesday, August 6. 2002 at the ELLESTAD FUNERAL HOME, 500 N. 8th. Street, Mt. Horeb, WI.

The family would like to thank Pastor Mark Yurs, Dr. David Lonsdorf and Hospice and their staff for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Hospice or Ingleside Nursing Home.

Joan E. Salis

Darlington - Joan E. Salis, age 74 of Darlington, WI died on Wednesday, August 7, 2002 at LaFayette County Manor in Darlington, WI surrounded by her family. The former Joan Ellen Wright was born June 5, 1928 in Shullsburg Township, WI to Orville & Irma (O’Neill) Wright. She graduated from Darlington High School in 1946 and Edgewood College in 1950 with a primary education degree. She taught Third Grade in Sauk City Elementary School for two years. She married Norton H. Salis June 25, 1952 at Holy Rosary Parsonage. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington, and of its Council of Catholic Women.

Survivors include her husband: Norton, her children: Jane (Louis) Paynter of Fond du Lac, John ( Kay) Salis of Waunakee, and Jean (Loras) Kruser of Shullsburg; her grandchildren: Kathleen (Ken) Cooper of Minneapolis, MN, Sarah Kruser (her fiance: Robert Ambrose of Atlanta, GA) at Roosevelt College in Chicago, Illinois, Elizabeth Kruser at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI, many friends and her cat: Ralph. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 10, 2002 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington, WI with Fr. Randy Budnar officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen cemetery in Shullsburg, WI. Friends may call from 3-8 PM on Friday, August 9, 2002 at the STEIL CAMACHO FUNERAL HOME, 206 E. Harriet St., Darlington, WI where a scripture service will be at 3:00 PM.

A memorial fund will be established in Joan’s name at a later time.
