Orval W. Barsness

Black Earth - Orval W. Barsness, age 87, of Black Earth, WI, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2002 at Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital.

Orval was born May 3, 1915 to Herman & Otelia (Erickson) Barsness. He lived with his eight siblings on the family farm in Vermont Township. In the 30's he, his brother, Marvin, and his sister, Mildred, along with Marvin Huset had a neat little band and many of their generation learned to dance to their music.

Orval and Dolores (Hefty) Barsness were married on January 23, 1936 in Mt. Horeb, WI. Orval made cheese at Halfway Prairie Creamery for 23 1/2 years. After he left the factory, he worked at Babcock Hall at the U.W. for 12 years.

He is also survived by Harvey (Gloria), living in Prairie du Sac.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers: Albert, Marvin, and Ralph, and 4 sisters: Gladys Topper, Cora, Ruby Johnson, and Mildred Halverson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 26, 2002 at Vermont Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Vermont Lutheran cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 6 pm on Sunday, August 25, 2002 at the Ellestad Black Earth Funeral Home, 1337 Mills Street. A special thanks to Heartland Country Village staff and Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital for being such wonderful caretakers to Orval.

Peter A. McKay

Mt. Horeb - Peter A. McKay, age 25, of Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin, died unexpectedly in a house fire on Thursday, September 26, 2002. He was born October 19, 1976 in Hazelton, Pennsylvania to Donald and Susan McKay.

He loved his family and friends, especially his niece and nephews. He enjoyed playing volleyball, darts, and hanging out with his friends. His sense of humor, impressions, and quick wit will be greatly missed by everyone.

He is survived by his parents: Donald and Susan, His two sisters: Debbie (Jon) Winkler - Mt. Horeb and Sara (boyfriend: Mitch Olson) McKay - Madison,

His two brothers: Mark (Karen) McKay - Mt. Horeb,

Scott (his fiancé: Heather DeVoe) McKay -Verona,

A niece: Emily, Four nephews: Cade, Cole, Jonnie, Tommy

His Grandmother: Lula Mae McKay of Mt. Horeb,

His Grandfather: Mark (Anna) Adams of New York State,

His fiancé: Amber Parks of Mt. Horeb,

His fiancé's sister: Bobbie Weller of Portage

and many other friends.

Memorial services will be at 7PM on Sunday, September 29, 2002, at the Ellestad Funeral Home, 500 North 8th St. Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin with Rev. Mark Gulbrand officiating. Friends may call from 3-7 PM on Sunday at the Ellestad Funeral Home. Burial will be at North Cohocton, New York.

Aebersold, Paul R. "Abe"
August 14, 1943 - August 8, 2007

Mineral Point - Paul R. "Abe" Aebersold, age 63, of Mineral Point, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at Upland Hills Nursing & Rehab Center in Dodgeville. He was born on August 14, 1943 in Darlington, the son of Carl F. and Lydia (Graf) Aebersold. He graduated from Darlington High School in 1961. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967 until his honorable discharge in 1971. Abe married Susan Fitzgerald on May 12, 1973. He worked for Hooper Construction, Carnes Co., and Wick Co. He also worked for the Mineral Point Water & Sewer Dept. for the past 17 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mineral Point. He was a avid NASCAR fan cheering for his favorite driver, Matt Kenseth and Abe loved spending time with his 4 grandsons.

Abe is survived by his wife, Susie Aebersold, of Mineral Point; two daughters, Jennifer (Vance) Evans and Amy Aebersold, both of Clayton, NC; four grandsons, Klein (9), Banks (6), Foster (5), and Ford (2) Evans; his brother, Ed Aebersold, of Belmont; and many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Walt Aebersold.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 12, 2007 at the FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH in Mineral Point. Pastor Mary Anne Conklin will officiate. Relatives and friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at the GORGEN FUNERAL HOME in Mineral Point and from 12:00 p.m. until time of services on Sunday at the church.

Ferrell, George C.
September 11, 1936 - September 3, 2007

Mineral Point / Leesburg, FL - George Curtis Ferrell, 70, Leesburg, FL and formerly of Mineral Point, WI passed away, Monday, September 03, 2007 at Upland Hills Nursing & Rehab Center, Dodgeville, WI. He was born September 11, 1936 in Dodgeville, the son of Mason and Margaret (Berryman) Ferrell. George grew up in rural Mineral Point; graduated from Mineral Point High School in 1954 and studied engineering at Wisconsin Institute of Technology, (later UW Platteville). He married Joyce Fahrni of Mineral Point on June 4, 1955. George was an elected member and President of the Mineral Point School board for a number of years. He also served on the Board of Directors, Southwest Vo-tech Inst, Fennimore. He was employed by Wick Agri Buildings, Mazomanie. Later he continued his relationship with them as the owner of Ferrell Building Contracting, Inc. In 1982, George moved to Florida, where he was a licensed General Building Contractor in Sarasota until his retirement. Following retirement, George and his wife spent several years touring the US fulltime and performing volunteer services at a number of State and National Parks and National Forests.

George Ferrell is survived by his wife, Joyce and four children: Robert (Nancy), Horn Lake, MS; Richard (Julie), Arnold, MO; Ronald (Linda), Madison, WI and Rebecca (Kevin) Porter, Belleville, WI; Grandchildren; Aric Ferrell, St Louis, MO; 2nd LT Tiffany Ferrell, Fort Sill, OK; Brooke Ferrell, Madison, WI; step grandchildren, Troy Sears, Horn Lake, MS and James Pottorff, Tampa, FL; sister Nancy (Charles) Ellefson, Spring Green, WI and nieces and nephews as well as an aunt, Eddis Olson, Dodgeville.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 6, at 11:00 AM at Hope Lutheran Church in Mineral Point. Rev. James Johnson will officiate. Burial will be at Graceland cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, September 5 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at Gorgen Funeral Home in Mineral Point and on Thursday 10:00 AM until time of service at the church.

Lease, Mary Lou
August 19, 1944 - September 2, 2007

Ridgeway - Mary Lou Lease, age 63, of Ridgeway, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2007 at Bloomfield Manor. She was born on August 19, 1944 in Dodgeville, the daughter of Edward and Virginia (Nolen) Lease. She attended school in the Ridgeway school district and most of her adult life was spent in the Madison area until she retired in 2005. In the fall of 2006, she moved back to Dodgeville to be close to her family. Mary Lou’s passion was bowling and playing euchre and her cat, “Pebbles”, who was her companion for many years.

Mary Lou is survived by her sisters, Judy Husom, of Dodgeville and her twin sister, Joyce Marie Foust, of Rockford; her four brothers, Butch Lease, of Dodgeville, Ron (Anne) Lease, of Mt. Horeb, Bruce (Mary) Lease, of Ridgeway, and Greg Lease, of Dodgeville; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Diane and her grandparents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at ST. BRIDGET’S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Ridgeway. Father Tait Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be held in St. Bridget’s cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass on Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Upland Hills Hospice.

The family would like to thank Bloomfield Manor and Upland Hills Hospice for their care and compassion, you are truly a great team and support group to all of us.

Lindgren, Richard L. “Dick”
April 7, 1931 - September 1, 2007

Dodgeville - Richard L. “Dick” Lindgren, age 76, of Dodgeville, passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2007 at Bloomfield Manor. He was born on April 7, 1931 in Eau Claire, the son of the late Walter and Emma (Preston) Lindgren. He graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army for 3 years being Honorably Discharged on January 3, 1954. Dick met, fell in love with and married Marcia Schreiner on May 1, 1954. He worked his career as an electrical contractor and he and Marcia owned and operated Lindgren Electric in Dodgeville, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ in Dodgeville.

Dick is survived by his wife, Marcia, of Dodgeville; his daughters, Darcia (Terry) Meister, of Warrenville, IL and Sara (Dan Henderson) Lindgren, of Greendale; his grandsons, Bradley (Katie) Meister and Brian (Lisa) Meister; his great grandchildren, Jimmy and Joey; his sisters, Carol (Keith) Sommerfeld, of Eau Claire and Joan (Vern) Mueller, of Eau Claire; his sister-in-law, Jean Lindgren, of Fond du Lac; his brother-in-law, Gene Charlier, of Green Bay; other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Allen Lindgren and his sister, Virginia Charlier.

A memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville.

Nelson, Bessie E.
February 15, 1927 - July 24, 2007

MINERAL POINT - Bessie E. Nelson, age 80, of Mineral Point, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville. She was born in Hyde on Feb. 15, 1927, the daughter of James and Irene (Baker) Edwards. She attended school in Dodgeville and later graduated from South Division High School in Milwaukee. She married Amos H. Nelson in Mineral Point on Feb. 19, 1946. She was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church, the Women's Circle and the Royal Neighbors. She worked at General Telephone in Dodgeville and Mineral Point, as a switchboard operator, retiring in 1982. She enjoyed reading, camping, baking and attending to her flower garden. She also loved traveling with Amos and spending time with her family.

Bessie is survived by three daughters, Donna (Francis) Burgess of Mineral Point, Bev (Jimmy Mac) MacFarland of Mauston and Marcia (Chet Mallek) Nelson of Waukesha; grandchildren, April (Donnie) Giesen, Deena (Craig) Ferguson, Crystal (Steve) Banfield, Corey (Roxanne) Burgess, Ted (Jane) Jackson, Emily (Jerry) Moon and Jasper (Sara) MacFarland; and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Amos, on April 24, 2004; a son, Leonard Nelson on Jan. 1, 1972; a brother, Mervin Edwards; a sister, Beulah Sieger; a granddaughter, Jody Jackson, in August 2005; a great-granddaughter, Tilah Page, in January 2004; a great-step-granddaughter, Stephanie Giesen in January 2004; and a niece, Linda Jones in 2004.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH, Mineral Point. The Rev. David Schlieter will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Friday, July 27, 2007, from 4 p.m until 8 p.m. at the GORGEN FUNERAL HOME, Mineral Point and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

Stude, Ramona F.
November 30, 1919 - August 26, 2007

MINERAL POINT - Ramona F. Stude, age 87, of Mineral Point, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, surrounded by her loving family at Upland Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dodgeville. She was born in Dodgeville on Nov. 30, 1919, the daughter of Jacob and Lena (Larson) Meudt. She married Francis W. Stude on Feb. 5, 1953, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dodgeville. She grew up on the family farm in the Pleasant Ridge area near Dodgeville. She worked at Jesse's Lockerplant in Dodgeville for several years. Francis and Ramona owned and operated Stude's Clothier's in Mineral Point for 40 years until 1987. She continued seamstress work at her home as a hobby. She was a member of St. Mary's-St. Paul's Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters and Altar Society. She enjoyed gardening, baking cookies for her grandchildren, loved helping everyone, her family and friends, working at church dinners and sewing for the community.

Ramona is survived by her husband, Francis W. Stude of Mineral Point; two daughters, Carolyn (Chuck) Novotny of Cottage Grove, Minn. and Sharon Stude of Verona; a sister-in-law, Mary Meudt of Dodgeville; two grandchildren, Steve and Sara Novotny of Cottage Grove, Minn. and also many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Leona Edge and a brother, Edward Meudt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at ST. MARY'S-ST. PAUL'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, in Mineral Point. Father David Flanagan will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the GORGEN FUNERAL HOME, Mineral Point and on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
