Young, Randy Allan

MADISON - Randy Allan Young, age 52, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, in DeForest. He was born on May 20, 1956, in Madison, to Allan and Carolyn (Fuller) Young. Randy worked for A and B Concrete Co., since he was 17 years old. He loved boating and his dog, Sequoia. Randy is survived by his parents; two sisters, Donna Kullavanijaya, and Brenda (Jack) Paulsen; four nephews, Ryan and Er
ic Kullavanijaya, Randall (Jodari) Paulsen, and Heath Paulsen; and aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, with Elder William Ochs presiding. Visitation will be at the funeral home from noon until the time of the service. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens.

Alaspa, Viola Charlotte

SUN PRAIRIE - Viola Charlotte Alaspa, age 91, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at Oakwood Village East in Madison, Wis. She was born in Ironwood, Mich. on June 24, 1917, the daughter of Hjalmer and Charlotte (Hedberg) Erickson, who were Swedish immigrants. She graduated from Ironwood High School and attended Woodward Business College. Vi worked for a U.S. congressman and also for the Ironwood Homestead Project from 1935 to 1941. She married O. Alec Alaspa on July 4, 1940. After many moves during Army years, they settled in Niagara, Wis. in 1949, where she lived for more than 50 years. In 2001 she moved to Sun Prairie, Wis. to be near her daughter. Vi was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Kingsford, Mich. Over the years she was involved with the Women's Club, Cub Scouts, and the American Red Cross. She loved her Swedish heritage and was a member of the Swedish Club. She enjoyed traveling, golfing, painting, working in her yard, and was an excellent cook and hostess. Vi is survived by her children, Allan (Kathy) Alaspa of Austin, Texas and Christine (Daniel) Bielinski of Sun Prairie; her grandchildren, Ross (April) Alaspa of Austin, Texas and Blythe (Evan) Aronowitz of Los Gatos, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Austin and Chase Alaspa and Greta Aronowitz; and other dear relatives and friends. In addition to her beloved husband, Alec, who passed away in November 1998, she was preceded in death by her mother and father; her brothers, Sigurd, Helmer, Arol, Donald, Cecil, Erwin, and Eric; and her sister, Grace. Funeral services will be held at OAKWOOD VILLAGE EAST CHAPEL at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, with the Rev. Doug Locken officiating. Visitation will be at the Chapel on Saturday from 12:30 p.m until the time of the service. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Oakwood Village East, HospiceCare and Prairie Gardens for their loving and kind care of Viola. Your compassion and tenderness made you extended family to Mom, and we deeply appreciate each of you. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Oakwood Village East or HospiceCare.

Bishop, James E. "Jim"

LODI/ PRAIRIE DU SAC - James E. "Jim" Bishop, age 74, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at his cabin in Elk Run. He was born on June 10, 1934, the son of the late Harold and Esther (Widner) Bishop. Jim was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served during the Korean War. He loved his man toys and had soloed his airplane for the first time on Aug. 1, 2008. On Dec. 17, 1956, he was united in marriage to the former Marjorie Engen and she preceded him in death on Sept. 29, 1990. Their son Chuck died on Nov. 12, 2003. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Peg Bishop whom he married on Aug. 25, 2001; his daughter, Linda (Steve) Kanter; grandchildren, Elizabeth Kantner and Cole Bishop; stepsons, Dennis (Ann) and Timothy Daughabaugh; seven stepgrandchildren and five stepgreat-granchildren. In addition to his first wife, Marjorie and son, Chuck he was preceded in death by his sister, Leona Chadwick; and stepdaughter, Kimberly Weyers. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at the LODI UNITED METHODIST CHURCH with the Rev. Scott Walters officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until the service at the church. Interment with military rites will be at Garden Bluff cemetery.

Bladl, Ruth M.

LODI - Ruth M. Bladl, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008. She was born on Dec. 18, 1922, at Westfield, the daughter of the late Henry and Helen (Knapp) Marotz. On Feb. 23, 1946, she was united in marriage to Charles W. Bladl and he preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 1994. She is survived by four daughters, Judy Walsh, Jere (Loren) Novak, Joni (John) Johnson and Jan (Keith) Selbo; her grandchildren, Michael (Yvonne), Mitch (Stephanie) and Matthieu (Danielle) Walsh, Melissa (Jim) Meyer, Medley, Morgan, Madigan, Mariah and Russell Walsh, Julie DeVoss, Dave (Jean), Doug and Dan Malsom, Eric (Suzie) and
Greg (Maria) Johnson, Mary Kay (Theron)Thoms, and Emilie and Charlotte Selbo; 37 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a brother, Earl Marotz ; two sisters, Edna Henne and Betty Waelti; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her granddaughters, Megan and Mia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at ST. PATRICK'S CATHOLIC CHURCH In Lodi, with Father Francisco Higuera officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the Mass. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.

Christen, Helen B.

VERONA/ EDMUND - Helen B. Christen, age 93, of Verona, formerly of Edmund, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at Willow Pointe Assisted Living in Verona. The former Helen Dale was born on April 7, 1915, in Eden Township, the second child of Alfred and Lida (Fingerson) Dale. She was valedictorian of the Cobb High School, Class of 1933. Helen married Louis Christen in July 1936, and he worked as a cheese maker in southwestern Wisconsin. Helen moved to Dodgeville in 1952, where she worked at Wedlake's Dime Store. She later worked at Skogmo's, and then took a job as bookkeeper with the Iowa County Highway Department, where she retired as office manager in 1980. Helen was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Ruth Circle. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis in 1972; a son, Roger Christen; a daughter-in-law, Connie Christen; her sister, Gladys Vogel; and two brothers, Lester and John Dale. Helen is survived by a son, Roland Christen of Madison; a daughter, Cathy (Paul) Peercy of Madison; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Christen of Jacksonville, Ark.; six grandchildren, Todd Christen, Sherry Collins, Eric Jon (Nora) Christen, Claudia Jo (Billy) Piper, Mike (Suzanne Kuo) Peercy and Mark (Shellie) Peercy; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Dale of Rosemont, Minn., Alice Dale of Madison, and Eva Christen of Mineral Point; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at the LULLOFF-PETERSON-HOUCK FUNERAL HOME, Dodgeville, with burial in East Bethlehem cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday after 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Grace Lutheran Church or the charity of one's choice would be greatly appreciated.

Fredrickson, G. Erma

WAUNAKEE/ MUSCODA - G. Erma Fredrickson, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center in Madison after living a quality life for six years with terminal lung cancer. Erma, first child of William Leon and Ethel (Callaway) Pellett, was born on Oct. 19, 1924, in Richland County, Wis. She graduated from Viola High School in 1942, and on March 6, 1943, she married Kenneth L. Fredrickson of Vernon County. Erma held many different jobs throughout her life, but her longest one was as an Artex/TriChem instructor, which she did for 44 years, and her favorite job was being a grandma and a great-grandma. Erma had a kind face and an infectious smile. Her positive attitude and strong spirit have been an inspiration to all who knew her. Erma is survived by Ken, her husband of 65 years; her son, Bob (Pat) Fredrickson; her daughter, Karen (Tom) Dorman; her six grandchildren, Lisa Gelhaus, Christine (Bill) McCarty, Nathan Gelhaus (Lara Drullinger), Carmen (Dave) Kaltenberg, Pam (Brett) Werlein, and Stacy Ripp (Rory Trickle); and her 13 great-grandchildren, Alessia Cova, William and Maggie McCarty, Hunter Drullinger and Madison Gelhaus, Kylie and Lexi Kaltenberg, Haley and Jacob Werlein, and Delton and MacKenzie Ripp and Mason and Kaden Trickle. Erma is further survived by three sisters, Mavis (Gene) Ulrich, Milly (Bill) Boyer, and Ruth Ann (Bob) Guyer; a sister-in-law, Ann Pellett; a brother, Marvin (Elaine) Pellett; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ruth Gelhaus on Nov. 6, 2007; and her brother, Lee Pellett in 2003. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, on Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at 11 a.m. and will be conducted by Erma's oldest granddaughter, Lisa Gelhaus. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. An additional service will be held at THORSON-REETZ FUNERAL HOME, 856 S. Rusk Ave., Viroqua, on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, at 11 a.m. preceded by a visitation at 10 a.m. and followed by interment at the Viroqua cemetery. Thanks to Dr. Thomas McFarland for his care of Erma, even when she delighted in "making a liar" out of him and his survival statistics. A special thanks to the waitresses at the Center Café in Richland Center for their concern and their ever-ready coffee pots. And a great big hug to all the nurses in the Outpatient Section of the Richland Center Hospital for their care and compassion for both Erma and Ken. To honor Erma, the family invites everyone who knew her to wear something purple.

Hunt, Donald "Don" C.

BLACK EARTH/ MADISON - Donald "Don" C. Hunt, age 62, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Services will be held at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison on Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at 6:30 p.m. Friends and family are also invited to share a time of fellowship and refreshments following the service in Bethel's Borgwardt Hall. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to Bethel Horizon-Art Ventures, Madison Community Foundation in Don's name, UW Paul P.Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center or HospiceCare Inc. Miller, Raymond H.

BARABOO - Raymond H. Miller, age 83 of Baraboo, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at St. Clare Meadows Care Center in Baraboo. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at the RAGO-BALDWIN FUNERAL HOME, with Chaplin, Karen Schilling officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of services. Burial will take place in St. John's cemetery, Rock Springs, with military rites provided by the Baraboo Veterans Honor guard.

MADISON - Yvonne M. Nieman, age 75, died peacefully at her daughter's house due to complications of Alzheimer's disease. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. Niesen, Elmer J.

DANE - Elmer J. Niesen, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on June 5, 1921, in Cross Plains, the son of the late Mathias and Margaret (Adler) Niesen. Elmer was united in marriage to Eleanor Clemens on Oct. 27, 1942, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Dane. Elmer was a painter and a drywaller all his life. He served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 29, 1942 to Oct. 29, 1945. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eleanor; three children, Ernie Niesen of Poynette, Terri (Dick) Ryan of Lodi and Edie Wildenberg of Dane; four grandchildren, Denise Niesen of Poynette, Brad (friend Amber) Wildenberg of Waunakee, Kory (Jill) Ryan of Lodi and Shane Ryan of Lodi; three great-grandchildren, Tyler Niesen of Poynette, Austin Taylor of Poynette and Reese Ryan of Lodi; a sister, Ann Bronson; and a brother, Roger (Joyce) Niesen. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvyn and Vince Niesen; and a sister, Betty Ybarra. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at ST. MICHAEL CATHOLIC CHURCH in Dane, with Father Franscisco Higuera officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the Mass at the church. Interment with military rites will be in the church cemetery. The family would like to thank HospiceCare and Elmer's caregiver Eric for their wonderful care of Elmer.
