Koberstein, John Paul
MADISON - John Paul Koberstein, age 66, passed away peacefully at HospiceCare, Inc., in Fitchburg on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008. He lived in Madison his whole life, attended Blessed Sacrament grade school and Edgewood High School. He received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1963 and his bachelor of law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1965. John started his law career as an assistant district attorney in Dane County, Wis., and later became a partner in a the private law firm of Voss, Nesson and Koberstein in Madison. John eventually started a solo law practice, forming Koberstein Law Office in Madison in the 1980s. John's law practice focused primarily on criminal defense work, and he devoted a lot of his practice to contract cases through the Wisconsin Public Defender's Office. John continued to practice law until his death. In addition to his legal career, John co-owned several businesses in the Madison area, including the former Ein Prosit and Mustang bars off the capitol square. He is survived by his wife, Helen Becker; his children, Susan Koberstein (Paul Anecki) of St. Paul; his son, Paul of Madison; his stepdaughter, Sara Angevine of New Brunswick, N.J.; his brothers, Joe (Ginny) Koberstein of Fitchburg and Bill Koberstein of Madison; sisters, Jane Morgan of Dubuque, Iowa and Jill (Dan Wollenzien) of Mozinee; his aunt, Ruth Boyle of Madison; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Catherine (Donhard). There will be a celebration of John's life on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 17, 2008, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the SILVER DOLLAR TAVERN, 117 W. Mifflin St. The family requests that memorials be made to HospiceCare, Inc. of Madison.

Severson, Rayford "Butch"
MCFARLAND / BLACK EARTH - Rayford "Butch" Severson, age 70 of McFarland, died peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at HospiceCare in Fitchburg. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at the McFARLAND AMERICAN LEGION HALL, 4911 Burma Road in McFarland, with Chaplain Bob Groth officiating. Military Honors will be accorded. A Celebration of Life will follow the service at THE GREEN LANTERN in McFarland. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 1:50 p.m. on Monday prior to the service at the McFARLAND AMERICAN LEGION HALL. Bartell, Kathleen Corbin
MADISON - Kathleen Corbin Bartell, adored wife, mother, sister and friend, died tragically and unexpectedly from a heart attack on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008. Kathy was born on April 13, 1946, to Joseph and Rosa Corbin. She lived in West Orange and Middletown, N.J. until graduating high school in 1964. She attended Denison University in Ohio until 1966 when she transferred to the University of Wisconsin - Madison where she continued her studies in music and met her life's love, Denis Bartell, a U.W. law student. Kathy received her bachelor's degree in voice and keyboard performance in 1968 and her master's in 1970. She then was awarded a two-year Fulbright Scholarship for the study of Slavic music in the former Yugoslavia and in Siena, Italy. Kathy and Denis married
on June 18, 1972, and embarked on their respective careers. Kathy taught voice and choral music at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and then at Cardinal Stritch College in Milwaukee and Edgewood College in Madison, while also accepting many private students. She regularly performed with the Florentine Opera in Milwaukee and Madison Opera Company, accepting roles in "Carmen, " "Manon" and "Cavalleria Rusticana." In the late 1970s, while continuing to pursue her life-long love of music, Kathy changed her career focus, and became a certified alcohol and drug counselor at Stoughton Hospital. Then, in the mid-1980s, she decided to devote full time to her growing family. Kathy considered her greatest achievement to be her children. She leaves Jennifer (27) of New York City, a charter school teacher for autistic children; Emily (25) recently of Washington, D.C., a specialist in marketing and human and organizational development; Claire (23) a teacher with the Chicago Public Schools; and Corbin (20), a junior at Beloit College, studying this year in Osaka, Japan. Kathy is also survived by her beloved husband, Denis, a partner at the DeWitt, Ross and Stevens law firm; by her sister, Cheryl (David) Tartakoff of Oak Park, Ill.; and her brother, Thomas (Brenda) Corbin of Chevy Chase, Md. She also leaves too many other relatives and friends even to begin to list. A private internment is being held today. A public memorial service will be held on Aug. 31, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the UNITARIAN MEETING HOUSE, 900 University Bay Drive, Madison, Wis. With the exception of her family and friends, Kathy had no greater devotion than that to music. She fell in love with music, particularly opera, at the age of six and that love never wavered. She instilled that love in each of her own children and countless other children she taught, coached and directed. Kathy would be overjoyed to know that an endowment has been established in her honor: The Kathy Bartell Endowment for the Support of Music in Madison's Schools. Campbell, Edward E. "Bud"
SAUK CITY - Edward "Bud" E. Campbell, age 79, of Sauk City died peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, at Gunderson Luthern Hospital in LaCrosse surrounded by his loved ones. His heart gave way doing what he loved, golfing. Bud was born Nov. 11, 1928, in Waukegan, Ill. to the late Ernest and Elizabeth Campbell. He attended Ithaca High School and finished his education in the Army. Bud was a World War II veteran, having served in the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper stationed in Italy. He was united in marriage to Bernice E. Thompson on Aug. 25, 1952, at her parents' home. The marriage was blessed with five children. Bud worked as an auto mechanic at Deutman Ford in Sauk City for 18 years, Consumers Cooperative Auto Center for 10 years and retired from Ballweg Chevrolet in 1991 at the age of 63. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, crossword puzzles, and was an avid reader. He was a member of Lachmund-Cramer Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7694. Bud will be remembered as a man who was always willing to help others. He is survived by his wife, Bernice of Sauk City; his children, Jeff Campbell, Lisbeth (Dan) Gibney, Timothy Campbell, and Susan (Leslie) Dorscheid; four grandchildren, Jessica and Danielle Gibney, and Kyle and Andrew Dorscheid; his sisters, Betty Paul, Bernice King, and Lilly (Dick) Lamers; and other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth; and brothers-in-law, Orville King and Elmer Paul. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Sauk City cemetery. The Lachmund-Cramer VFW Post No. 7694 will conduct Military Rites. Family and friends are invited to the home following the service until 5 p.m.

Campbell, Oralee
DEFOREST - Oralee Campbell, age 67 of DeForest, passed away on Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at Select Specialty Hospital in Madison. She was born Jan. 17, 1941 in Chicago, the daughter of George and Genevieve Ball. She attended Loretto Academy Catholic High School in Chicago. Oralee accepted Christ at an early age, and was baptized at Holy Name of Mary Church in Chicago. She worked as a case worker for the Illinois Department of Public Aid for 15 years. She is survived by three children, Alphonse Campbell, Genevieve Morgan and Aloysius (Dahal) Campbell; six grandchildren, Antione, Andrew, Aleshia, Jeneshia, Deleshia, and Earl; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Roxanna Ball; and an uncle, Carl (Ruby) Givens. A celebration of Oralee's life will be held at the ALL FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 4058 Lien Rd., on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at noon. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Christianson, Marion L.
MADISON - Marion L. Christianson, passed on peacefully at home on Friday, Aug. 15, 2008. She was born on April 10, 1918, in Rio, the daughter of Harry and Elsie Nichols. Marion lived in Rio and Lodi where her parents ran a poultry farm, and later moved to Parson, Kan. She soon moved back to Madison where her parents were house parents at a UW Sorority. Marion graduated from East High School in 1936. She married
the love of her life Anfin (Andy) Christianson in 1938 in Deerfield. After working at Nora's Store a few years they purchased a grocery store in Rockdale, ran a hardware store and then a heating and air conditioning business. They moved to Madison in 1964 and Marion worked at Mendota State Hospital and Central Wisconsin Center as a administrative assistant until she retired in 1978. Marion was a longtime member of the Elk East Side Club. Her loves included her husband, family and many friends, traveling, golfing, playing cards, readi
ng, and she was a beautiful knitter. Marion is survived by her children, Jo (George) Langley of Eagle River and Roger Christianson of Madison; three granddaughters, Trista (Tod Tyler) Langley-Tyler of Eagle River, Tonya (Tim) Allison of Suffolk, Va., and Tara Langley of Eagle River; six great-grandchildren, Lily, Rose, Michael, Grace, Syrus, and Drew; These children were her pride and joy. Other survivors include sisters-in-law, Lila (Roland) Eide of Deerfield and Millie Nichols of San Francisco; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy; and brother, Raymond Nichols. Fish, Robert E.
TUCSON, ARIZ. - Robert E. Fish, age 92, died on Aug. 9, 2008, in Tucson, Ariz. He was born on Oct. 15, 1915, in Madison, Wis., the son of Anna Katherine (Bernard) and P.O. Fish. Bob attended Lincoln School, graduated from Central High School and the University of Wisconsin - Madison, where he was elected president of his sophomore class. He was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Bob served in World War II as a first lieutenant in the Army Transportation Corps. With the war's end he returned to Madison and joined his family business, Fish and Schulkamp Insurance, where he worked until his retirement. In 1956 Bob married
Harriet Sisk of Madison; they raised four children. In 2003 Bob and Harriet moved from Madison, their longtime home, to Tucson to be near children. Bob truly treasured the friendship of his many friends. Important in his life were his poker club, his investment club, his hunting groups, his golf foursome, and his Minocqua cabin group. He served on the board of directors of the Madison Club, Maple Bluff Country Club, and the Village of Maple Bluff. Bob was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Jean Donkle, Lois Buettner, Doris Linton and Ann Sawyer Norman; his brother, John; and a grandson, Timothy Conners. He is survived by his wife, Harriet; his daughters, Sarah Perina (Robert) of York, Pa., Betsy Porter (Walter) and Laura Conners (Terry) of Tucson; a son, Robert Christian West of Madison, and nine grandchildren. Internment will take place in Madison in a family ceremony. Because the last fifteen years of Bob's life were deeply affected by his loss of eyesight, gifts in his memory may be made to the University of Wisconsin-Madison Foundation-Ophthalmology Department, P.O. Box 78807, Milwaukee, WI 53278, for macular degeneration research.

HENDERSON, NEV. - Robert Leonard Greene, age 80, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008. He was born Nov. 29, 1927, in Avoca, to Ray and Alice (Semrad) Greene. He married
Margaret E. Hughey on May 9, 1947, in Sun Prairie. She passed May 11, 2006. Bob was a longtime resident of the Madison/ Sun Prairie areas prior to moving to Nevada. He was a U.S. Marine, retired from the Wisconsin Air National Guard at Truax and owned the Theatre Bar in Rio for 10 years. He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia (Bill) Grove of Stoughton, Edyth (Michael) Fitzpatrick of Henderson, Nev., and Lorrie (Ron) Greene-Nankivell of Henderson, Nev.; his foster son, Dale (Tami) Grossman of Holland, Mich.; grandchildren, Margarette Grove of Stoughton, Allen Grove of Middleton, Kelly, Kevin, and Kyle Fitzpatrick of Henderson, Nev., and Heather, Alyssa, and Rob Grossman of Holland, Mich.; great-granddaughter, Samantha Haefer of Middleton; brothers, Vilas (Adair) Greene of Onalaska and Ivan Greene of Merrimac; and sister, Ellen (Elgin) Porter of Deforest. MADISON - Paz Martin Harris, age 54, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. She was born Sept. 16, 1953 in Milwaukee to Delmar and Paz Martin. She graduated from Pius High School and attended the UW-Madison. She worked as a travel consultant for over 20 years and she traveled extensively in Asia, South America and the Caribbean. Paz is survived by her daughter, Aja X. Harris and son Jahil J. Harris of Madison; their father, Billy J. Harris of Fraser, Colo.; her parents; sister, Francisca Martin of Milwaukee; brothers, Alan Martin of Madison, Bruce Martin, Delmar Martin, Jr. and George Martin, all of Milwaukee; and life long friends, Lettice Pinell of Milwaukee and Gwen. Albritton of St. Louis. Paz was preceded in death by brothers, Craig Martin, Dale Martin, and Keith Martin; sister, Pacita Martin; and grandmother, Odessa Martin of Milwaukee. MADISON - Conwell Jackson passed on Aug. 10, 2008. He was born on Nov. 26, 1934, to James Jackson and Victoria McKay Jackson. He attended Jonesboro Elementary School and Lee County High School. He retired from Omanda (Ohio Medical) with 28 years of service. Wife-Pastor Ethel Jackson, together they raised seven grandchildren, Vic Jackson, Deangelo Jackson, Vandora Jackson, Pamela Jackson, Therese Jackson, Milak Sabrazz and Nafessa Sabrazz. And a host of great-grandchildren.
