Chard, Mary Lou

PEWAUKEE - Mary Lou Chard, age 75, was born to eternal life on Saturday, April 18, 2009. She died peacefully in her home, in Pewaukee, surrounded by the love of her family. Mary Lou was born in Geraldine, Mont., on Sept. 16, 1933, the daughter of Ned and Alice Bronson. She married the love of her life, Darrell Chard on Feb. 14, 1952. They were married 43 years until Darrell's death in 1995. Mary Lou worked several jobs throughout the years as a waitress, nurse's aide and dietician, however, her labor of love was caring for her family. Mary Lou was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and mother-in-law and will be forever missed by her family and friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Mary Lou is survived by her sons, Jim (Merry) Chard of McFarland and their children, Matthew (Jeni) Chard and their daughters, Kailey, Ivy and Ashlynd, and Megan Chard (fiance, Matt Beld); Gary (Theresa) Chard of Madison and their daughter, Ally Rae; Steve (Ginny) Chard of New Berlin and their sons, Christopher and Beau; Scott (Annie) Chard of Waukesha and their children, Reilly and Jack. She is further survived by her brothers, Bill Bronson and Pat (Kathy) Bronson; and sisters, Sonia (Al) Audet, Terry (Brent) Stinnett and Linda (Merle) Prigge. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell; infant daughter, Kathy; parents, Ned and Alice Bronson; and a sister, Sally. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 24, 2009, at 10 a.m., at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive with the Rev. Stephen Stauffacher presiding. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2009, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff, nurses, doctors and hospice caretakers at Kirkland Crossings for their loving care of Mary Lou. Well done, good and faithful servant; Enter into the joy of your Lord.

Dimick, Helen E.

PLATTEVILLE - Helen E. Dimick, 86, of Platteville, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Southwest Health Center Hospital, Platteville. Helen was born July 4, 1922 in Benton, a daughter of Thomas and Alice (Peacock) Spensley. After graduating from Platteville High School in 1940, she attended the Madison Beauty Academy. She worked as a beautician, managing and owning her own salon for several years. She married Warren Dimick on Jan. 12, 1946. Warren, her husband of 56 years, passed away on Sept. 30, 2001. They farmed in the Platteville area until 1974 when they moved to Horseshoe Bend, Ark. They resided there until moving back to Platteville in 1992. Helen was active in the Lutheran Church of Peace, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Women of Veterans of Foreign War. She and her husband, Warren never had children yet over the years they traveled many miles to attend athletic activities to support their nieces, nephew, great-nieces and great-nephews. An avid Cubs fan, she also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, fishing and gardening. Helen is survived by her sisters-in-law, Jean Spensley and Ruth Spensley both of Platteville; Maxine Dimick of Mount Horeb; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephew, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William and his wife, Betty Spensley; brothers, Donald, and Glenn Spensley; and a sister, Dorothy and her husband, James Mullen. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at the LUTHERAN CHURCH OF PEACE, Platteville with the Rev. Jeff Pedersen officiating. Burial will be at Hillside cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 4 p.m. unitl 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the MELBY-BENDORF FUNERAL HOME, Platteville, where there will be an American Legion Auxiliary service at 4 p.m. or from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the church. The Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home, Platteville, is serving the family.

Dyreson, Burton C.

MADISON - Burton C. Dyreson, age 93, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2009, at HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born on April 18, 1916, in Stoughton, the son of Carl and Effie (Johnson) Dyreson. Burton graduated from Janesville High School and went to Madison Business College where he received a degree in accounting. He served in the Army during World War II for five years. Burton was united in marriage to Dorothy Deininger on Feb. 21, 1943, in Monroe. He worked for the Commonwealth Telephone Company, Dizon Paper Company and Universal Paper Company as an accountant. Burton was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church. He was an usher for 45 years and served on church council. He was active in Christian Men's Fellowship, Couples Club, Congregational Life and was involved in the Boy Scouts. After retiring in 1981, he volunteered as a tax aide for AARP, Bethel Estate Sales and Oakwood Resale Shop. Burton is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Dorothy Dyreson of Madison; his sons, John (Patricia) Dyreson of Fitchburg and Steven (Patty) Dyreson of New London; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Deirdre), Kenneth (Sarah), Scott (Sonja), Kevin (Krista) and Laura (Darrell) Pinter; great-grandchildren, Carter, Andrew, Emma and Chloe; sisters, Helen Brekken of McFarland and Ruth (Harvey) Gausman of Edgerton; a brother, Carl (Lorraine) Dyreson of McFarland; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Burton was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Vivian and Elinor; and a brother, Paul. Funeral services will be held at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor William White officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, April 25, 2009, from 10:30 a.m. until time of service. Inselman, Marjorie J.

MADISON/ POYNETTE - Marjorie J. Inselman, age 79, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2009, at the Karmenta Center. She was born on June 17, 1929, in Kenosha, the daughter of Arthur and Margaret (Lewis) Koehl. Marjorie graduated from Kenosha High School and Tennessee Weslyan College. She married John Inselman on June 15, 1957, at St. Mathew's in Kenosha. Marjorie was a free lance writer and was a member of the writers' club, wordcrafters and Bethel Lutheran Church. Marjorie is survived by her husband, John of Poynette; son, Gary Inselman of Monona; and two brothers, Richard Koehl of Green Bay and Robert (Jane) Koehl of Madison. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, William and Donald Koehl. Funeral services will be held at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, at noon, on Wednesday, April 22, 2009. Visitation will be at the church, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran cemetery in Leeds.

King, Beatrice G.

MADISON - Beatrice G. King, age 96, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2009. Beatrice was born on July 14, 1912 in Evanston, Ill., the daughter of Eno C. and Mary (George) Bachechi, who were Italian immigrants. She was married to James Smith who preceded her in death in 1946 and later married G. Willard King who preceded her in death in 2007. Beatrice was a longtime Wisconsin resident and also lived for a period of time in Lake Tavares, Fla. She was a very active, healthy lady who enjoyed playing tennis, swimming, fishing, walking, nature, especially the woods and lived independently all her life. Beatrice also enjoyed playing cards, traveling, and flowers. She was an amazing baker and cook and a hospitable entertainer. Beatrice was also very talented at knitting sweaters and doing crafts. She took a refresher class in Italian a few years ago. Beatrice is survived by her sons, James (Judy) Smith of Lakeland, Fla. and Dennis King of Madison; stepson, James King of Tucson, Ariz; grandchildren, Hollie Brown, Jeanine King, Scott King and Jennifer Smith; five great-grandchildren; and other family and friends. Besides her two husbands, she was preceded in death by three sisters; two brothers; and a great-grandson, Logan Krebs. Honoring her wishes, no services will be held. Radecki, Joseph Alec

STOUGHTON - Joseph Alec Radecki, age 55, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2008 at his home in Stoughton. He was born in Stoughton on July 17, 1953, a son of Alec and Elaine (Sobacki) Radecki. He graduated from Stoughton High School and was presently employed as a school bus driver for the Stoughton and St. Ann's Schools. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church. Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman all of his life, and particularly enjoyed anything with the outdoors. He had previously been employed as a brick layer in the Stoughton area, and as a truck driver for The Stoughton Lumber Company. He is survived by his mother, Elaine Radecki of Stoughton; a sister, Katherine (Craig) Ausse; a brother, Russell Radecki; three uncles, Daniel and Gerald Sobacki and Casmir Radecki; and an aunt, Veronica Ahrens. A Memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at ST. ANN'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 323 N. Van Buren St., Stoughton with Monsignor Gerard Healy officiating. The family will greet friends at church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Renlund, Donald W.

MADISON - Donald W. Renlund, age 91, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2009, at St. Mary's Care Center. He was born on Sept. 30, 1917, in Buhl, Minn., a son of William and Elizabeth (Holmes) Renlund. After serving as a U.S. Navy medic on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific theater during World War II, he received his B.S. degree in biology and geography from the University of Minnesota - Duluth and his M.S. in entomology from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. He continued his doctorate studies in entomology at the University of Wisconsin - Madison until accepting a lifelong position as chief forest entomologist with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Donald had a caring and generous spirit, a lifelong love of knowledge and a keen, investigative mind. He loved nature, music and animals, as well as the many trips he took throughout the U.S. and world, especially to his native Finland. He is survived by wife, Tina; daughters, Susan (Richard) Simonson and Mary (Greg) Wallace; son, Mark; and grandson, Spencer Wallace. Donald was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert; and sister, Mercedes Rautio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2009, at ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 602 Everglade Drive, Madison, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Monsignor Donn Heiar will celebrate, with burial to be determined at a later date. Memorials may be made in Don's name to St. Mary's Care Center, 3401 Maple Grove Dr., Madison, WI 53719. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at St. Mary's for the loving care that Don received. Schumacher, Elmer H.

BARABOO - Elmer Henry Schumacher, known to his friends as "Ed" or "Shoey", passed away in Baraboo on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at the age of 80. He was born to the late Elmer and Louise (Klein) Schumacher on Aug. 18, 1928, in Janesville, where he was raised and attended school. On Feb. 26, 1949, he was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Dolores Ann "Dolly" Peters in Beloit. Shoey was proud to have served with the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He was stationed in the Washington, D.C. area where he and Dolly lived early in their married life. After his military service, they moved back to Beloit where they raised their two children. He thoroughly enjoyed being active in the Beloit Memorial High School Booster Club as well as serving as an elder at the Second Congregational Church. Shoey completed a 32-year career with Freeman Shoe Company in Beloit and retired as vice president of style and design. He was twice awarded the prestigious honor of "Designer of the Year" by the Leather Industry of America, first in 1965 and again in 1972. He traveled extensively for Freeman's, including several trips to Europe and India. Upon retirement, Shoey and Dolly moved to their cottage on Lake Wisconsin in Merrimac. There he pursued his lifelong love of hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. Shoey was an avid landscape gardener and created many beautiful rock gardens around the cottage. He was also active in the Baraboo Lions Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. Shoey worked closely with Betty Thiessen for 21 years at Ski-Hi Fruit Farm in Baraboo, which he always considered his "bit of paradise". He enjoyed serving on the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Apple Growers Association. Shoey is survived by his two loving children, Steve (Marsha, nee Wainwright) Schumacher of Grand Rapids, Mich. and Lisa (Brad) McNely of Beloit; his granddaughter, Lesley Schumacher; and two grandsons, Michael Schumacher and Billy McNely; a brother-in-law, Lloyd Algrem of Janesville; a nephew, Jeff Algrem; a niece, Annette (Algrem) Anderson; five great-nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many friends. Shoey is also survived by a dear friend, Betty Thiessen of Baraboo, who lovingly cared for him after he suffered a severe stroke nearly seven years ago. The Schumacher family is especially grateful to Betty for her uncompromising care and devotion to Dad Shoe. In addition to his parents, Elmer and Louise, Shoey was preceded in death his beloved wife of 52 years, Dolly, in November of 2001; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Leach; and his only sibling, Betty (Schumacher) Algrem of Janesville. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at ST. PAUL'S LUTHERAN CHURCH in Baraboo with Pastors Deb and Steve Ohrtman officiating. Military rites will follow. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Baraboo Range Preservation Association. The Redlin Funeral Home in Baraboo is assisting the family. We will always remember his wide smile, charisma, and charm. He will be sorely missed by all who were fortunate to have known him.

Schwartz, Gordon L.

REEDSBURG - Gordon L. Schwartz, age 83, of Reedsburg, died unexpectedly on Monday, April 20, 2009, in the Reedsburg Area Medical Center. He was born on Feb. 15, 1926, in the town of Woodland, Sauk County, the son of Earl and Alice (Hochmuth) Schwartz. Gordon attended Reedsburg High School, served in the U.S. Army (spending time in Paris) and attended Layton Art School in Milwaukee. He married Jane E. Faber on Sept. 1, 1949, at St. Killian's Catholic Church in Bear Valley. Their marriage was blessed with five children. Gordon was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served on the church building committee and was a member of the church choir for many years. He owned his own painting business for more than 40 years, developing close relationships with clients and fellow tradesmen. He enjoyed World War II history, bird watching, making firewood, fishing, hunting and considered deer season "the best time of the year." He will be remembered by family and friends as a colorful story teller. He is survived by four children, Jean Schwartz of Reedsburg, Debra (John) Muchow of Reedsburg, Susan (Craig) Schappe of Madison and Sid (Julie) Schwartz of Beloit; seven grandchildren, Nathan, Jacob and James Muchow, Eric and Tyler Schappe and Angelica and Monica Schwartz; and a brother, Ivan (Erna) Schwartz of Reedsburg. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; a daughter, Virginia (Bill) Zinn; and a sister, Frey (Hilbert) Pierce. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2009, at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH in Reedsburg with Father Thomas Monaghan officiating. Interment will be in St. Patrick's cemetery in the town of Winfield with military rites conducted by the Reedsburg Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday at the HOOF FUNERAL HOME in Reedsburg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic School Endowment Fund. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.

Smith, Beverly A.

MADISON - Beverly A. Smith, age 71, passed away unexpectedly while at her home on Tuesday, April 14, 2009. Beverly was born on July 5, 1937, in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of Emil and Sigrid Carlson. While working for North Central Airlines, she met and later married her husband, Charles Smith on Sept. 15, 1962, in Minneapolis, Minn. Beverly worked for many years prior to her retirement with the State of Wisconsin in the Vital Records Department. She was a member of the Lakeview Lutheran Church and was active in various groups, such as the Red Hat Society and KAYRA. She was also active in the Bosom Buddies - Breast Cancer Awareness Group. She is survived by her two children, Greg (Pat) Smith and Steve Smith; a grandson, Trevor; and a sister, Lucille (Arden) Rasmussen. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Charles in 2003. Funeral services were held on Monday, April 20, 2009.
