Clair Edwin Page
Clair Edwin Page passed away on the morning of Tuesday, May 25, 2004, and joined his beloved Gladys, who passed away on May 9, 2003.

He was born in Roseburg, Ore., Nov. 5, 1904, the son of Alvin Basil and Adele (Smeester) Page. Clair's life spanned horse-and-buggy to the space age, a true pioneer. Schooled in Amberg and at Green Bay Business College, he married his childhood sweetheart, Gladys Gabrielson in Iron Mountain, Mich., on Dec. 29, 1923, a union made in heaven for 79 1/2 years. Three daughters were born to them: Clarice, Lois (1926-28) and Gail. They are survived by five generations of loving descendants, who were blessed to have them for this time and will miss them forever.

A man of excellent character and family values, he spent his employment years in the automotive industry, 40 years at Stone Motor Co. and Boulder Parts Corp. where he retired as corporate vice-president. He was still driving after 87 years behind the wheel.

Who expects 38 more years after retirement? The Pages moved to their Breezewood retreat on the Miscauno Creek in Beecher, planted the old Gabrielson farm in pine trees and nestled there from 1966-1980. St. Agnes Church in Amberg was important in their lives. Seeking to escape winters, they moved to Atlanta, Ga., sharing a home with grandson Jeff Cordry. Lonesome, they moved back to Wausaukee and eventually to Raven Crest Apartments in Green Bay. Clair's wish was to live out his life in Apt. 2B - a wish that was fulfilled. Another goal was to vote in one more presidential election and reach his 100th birthday. Sorry, "Granddaddy." You almost made it.

At a reunion of Smeesters last August at St. Louis Church in Dyckesville and Rock Garden Supper Club, Clair was the patriarch of the 140 present. He was the oldest living survivor of Nicholas Joseph Smeester and Francois Terwayne, immigrants from Belgium who left over 1,400 descendants. Clair was greatly influenced by that heritage: Grampa Joe, and a loving extended Smeester family, aunts, uncles and many cousins.

Clair enjoyed nature, gardening, hunting and fishing, cards and travel.

He is survived by daughters Clarice Cadotte and Gail Cordry; grandchildren Terry Claire (Jim) Jeffers, Todd Barrett, Jeff Cordry, Julie (Tom) Ender and John (Lisa) Cordry; nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and five special "Gabrielson" nieces and nephews. He is further survived by Jane Page, widow of Donald and her three children and grandchildren.

Clair was preceded by lifetime love Gladys; daughter Lois; brothers Bill and Donald Page; sons-in-law John Barrett and Royal Cadotte; and grandson Tim Barrett.

Friends may call at Lyndahl Funeral Home in Green Bay on Thursday, May 27, 2004, from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Friday, May 28, from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Am berg with the funeral Mass to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Amberg Cemetery. Messar Funeral Home of Wausaukee is in charge of arrangements.

Clair was an inspiration to all who knew him, a devout man who said the eight mysteries of the Rosary daily, remembering all his friends and loved ones. He will be warmly remembered and sadly missed.

A memorial fund has been established.

A special thanks to Heartland Hospice in his last days.
