Mary C. Beams, 42, Arlington, Texas, formerly of Green Bay, died February 18, 2004, in Texas. Committal Service 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 19, at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Howard.

Ward E. Black Jr.
Ward Edward Black Jr., 82, of Savannah, Ga., husband of Connie Ryan McGalliard Black, died Tuesday evening, June 15, 2004, at Hospice Savannah after a brief illness.

Born in Green Bay, Wis., he was a son of the late Ward Edward Black, Sr. and Ethel Kelly Black. Mr. Black attended Bull Street Baptist Church and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He joined the United States Navy after graduation from Beloit College in Beloit, Wis.. Mr. Black was a commissioned officer and served on a destroyer during World War II. At the end of World War II he began his paper career with American Boxboard Company. After 20 years he joined Western Kraft, a subsidiary of Willamette Industries, which is now Weyerhaeuser. Mr. Black retired in 1978 as assistant to the president of Western Kraft. He has been a resident of The Landings since 1978. Mr. Black was an avid golfer for 67 years. He was a past member of Butterfield Country Club in Hinsdale, Il., and a member of The Landings Club. Mr. Black scored a hole-in-one while playing Marshwood at The Landings. In addition to his parents, Mr. Black was preceded in death by his first wife of 54 years, Betty May Lhost Black.

Surviving are his wife, Connie Ryan McGalliard Black of Savannah, Ga.; six sons, Ward E. Black, III of Las Vegas, Nev., David Black and his wife, Susan, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Paul Black and his wife, Trish, of Dallas, Texas, Craig McGalliard and his wife, Lisa, of Savannah, Ga., Tom McGalliard and his wife, Yoli, of San Marcos, Calif., and Todd McGalliard and his wife, Rachel, of Marietta, Ga.; one daughter, Cheryl Brodmann and her husband, Hal, of Savannah, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, Haley Black, Robbie McGalliard, Sarah McGalliard, Cecilia McGalliard, Marcos McGalliard, Nathan McGalliard, Abigail McGalliard, Noah McGalliard, Ryan Brodmann, David Brodmann and Alex Brodmann; his sister, Charlotte Lytle and her husband, Gene, DDS, of Dubuque, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 o'clock Friday morning at Skidaway Island Baptist Church. Funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Friday morning in Skidaway Island Baptist Church conducted by The Rev. Earnie T. Pirkle and The Rev. William E. Gardner. Interment will be in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Survivors include five sons, Jerome (Carol), Pound, LeRoy (Mary Lou), Kaukauna, Bernard (Sandy), Appleton, Robert (Helen), Appleton, Chuck (Connie), Appleton; three daughters, Patricia (Joseph) Rickert, Appleton, Nancy (Robert) Van Boxtel, Kaukauna, Carol (Cark) Appleton, Kaukauna; 42 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Emily Golie, Kimberly, Gertrude Marohn, Oshkosh. Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N. Tenth St., De Pere, is assisting the family.

Daryl Hissong
Daryl Hissong, 58, of Green Bay, died peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Monday, June 14, following a diagnosis of cancer two months ago.

Memorial services to be held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1414 Shawano Ave., on Monday, June 21. Visitation from 10 until 11 a.m. Service 11 a.m. Monday at the church with Pastor Delmar Austin officiating.

Kenneth A. Nockerts
Kenneth A. Nockert, 86, De Pere. Visitation after 9 a.m. today at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2575 S. Webster Ave. Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. today at the church. Survivors include his wife, Doris; two sons, Steve (Ann), Richland Center, Thomas (Debra), Green Bay; six grandchildren. Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., is assisting the family.

Gwen Grace (Gonnering) Roten
Gwen Grace (Gonnering) Roten, 50, De Pere, went home to meet her Lord Tuesday, June 15, 2004, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born June 13, 1954, daughter of the late Ralph and Elaine (Zimmerman) Gonnering, and graduated from East De Pere High School. She had lived in San Diego for over 20 years, and also in Albuquerque, N.M., for 4 years, where she worked for the school district. She married Mike Roten, June 1979 in San Diego, Calif., and together had a son, David. Gwen and Mike were married until May of 2000. She moved back to the De Pere area in 2000, and worked for Moore Response Marketing Graphics and American Express. She greatly enjoyed San Diego, where she loved the ocean and watching dolphins. She was especially devoted to her son, David, and loved spending time with her sisters, nieces and nephews. Gwen always was looking to help people in any way she could. She attended Bayside Christian Fellowship, where she enjoyed Tuesday morning Bible study.

Survivors include her son, David Roten, De Pere; sisters and brothers-in-law: Sue and Ken Kempen, De Pere, Nancy and Jeff Lambert, Green Bay, and Jan and John Butz, De Pere; sister-in-law, Ellen Gonnering, Green Bay; nieces and nephews: Amy Pagenkopf, Phoenix, Ariz., Rebekah Lambert and Lucas Lambert, Green Bay, Angie (fiance -Mike Callahan) Butz, Atlanta, Ga.; Don (Kristy) Butz, De Pere, and Jacob Butz and Amanda Butz, De Pere, Nicholas Gonnering, Green Bay; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and special friends, Elizabeth, Kathy, and Greg.

Gwen was preceded in death by her parents; Ralph and Elaine Gonnering; brother, Steven; maternal grandparents, John and Amanda Zimmerman; and paternal grandparents, William and Cecelia Gonnering.

Family and friends may call Sunday, June 20, 2004, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere, where there will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday, June 21, 2004, from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at Bayside Christian Fellowship, 3475 Humboldt Road, Green Bay. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Monday at the church, with the Rev. Arni Jacobson officiating.

The family extends a special thanks to the Oncology Dept. at St. Vincent Hospital, especially Dr. McGovern, the Unity Hospice staff: Sue, Deb, Michelle, and Rebecca, and Pastor Art and Ethel Gregg from Bayside. She loved the Lord Jesus and served him well.

Amelia M. Heezen
Amelia M. Heezen, 87, a Green Bay resident, passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Bellin Hospital. Amelia was born November 4, 1916, to the late Frank and Veronica (Peters) Ronk on a farm in the town of New Denmark. After graduating from Denmark High School, she went on to teacher's college. She taught in many country and parochial schools in the area. She married Hilbert M. Heezen on August 24, 1946, at All Saints Catholic Church in Denmark and built a home in Bellevue. He preceded her in death September 4, 1980. Hilbert and Amelia raised four children together. After retiring from teaching, she worked at Bellin Hospital housekeeping department for 23 years. Amelia was also a charter member of St. Bernard's Parish and the Altar Society.

Survivors include three daughters, Doris (Michael) Vincent, Green Bay, Donna (Larry) Wotruba, Maribel and Diane (Randy) Rentmeester, Green Bay; one son, Wayne (Sharon) Heezen, Denmark; six grandsons, Matthew (Melissa) Rentmeester, Jason Rentmeester, Casey Rentmeester, Greg (Jamie) Heezen, Jeff Heezen and Jesse (fiance' Tina Torp) Wotruba; five granddaughters, Anne (Kenley) Bruss, Jennifer (Josh) Harkins, Kara Rentmeester, Stacy Heezen and Katie Vincent; three great-grandchildren, Max and Sam Bruss and Madeline Rentmeester. She is further survived by in-laws; John and Dorothy Heezen, Helen Van De Hei, Blanche Heezen, nieces, nephews and special friend Joyce Plansky.

Besides her husband, Hilbert, and her parents, Amelia was preceded in death by her twin sister Aurelia Hoffman, brothers Arnold, Ray and Cyril Ronk and one grandson, Joey Rentmeester.

Friends may call at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2040 Hillside Lane, Friday, June 18, 2004, from 3 p.m. until the time of the services. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 7 p.m. Friday at the church with Rev. Doug LeCaptain officiating. Entombment in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum, Bay Settlement.

Proko-Wall Funeral Home & Crematory, 1630 E. Mason St. is assisting the family with arrangements.
