Joseph P. Peters Sr.
Joseph P. Peters Sr., 78, De Pere, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 6, 2004, after a year-long battle with lung cancer. Joe was born July 28, 1925, to the late Henry and Marie (Jansen) Peters in De Pere.

After serving his country in World War II, Joe was employed by Fort Howard Paper Company before his retirement in January 1987. He married Rita McGuire on April 14, 1951, at Annunciation Catholic Church in Green Bay. She preceded him in death on Dec. 22, 1989. Dad had a way of splitting up his time just enough between family and friends to make us all appreciative of his company and long for more of him. Joe most recently enjoyed bowling four days a week in senior leagues where he had many very good friends. He was also a pretty good Black Jack player, at least that's what he told us.

Joe's many other interests included hunting, fishing and traveling. Before Rita passed away, they enjoyed many trips together, to visit or vacation with their family. Joe was a life long member of St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Green Bay. He was also a life member with the VFW Post #10244 in Ashwaubenon and was a member of the Golden K's in De Pere. Joe was generous man who always tried to do what he thought was right.

He is survived by seven children; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren all of whom he treated with the same amount of love and support as a father, grandfather or great-grandfather could. Janet (Rich) Alperin and their sons, Sean and Josh, New Hampshire; Sallie (Tom) Heim, De Pere and their children, Brenda (Pat) Pitchette along with great-grandchildren, Ethan and Emma, also of De Pere, Brian (Jenny), Madison, and Jeff, De Pere; Bob (Joan) Peters, Hobart and their sons, Jim, Milwaukee and Ben, Madison; Nancy (Charles) Peters-Hoover, Texas; Dennis (Connie) Peters and their children, Kailyn and Brandt, Howard; Bill Peters, New Hampshire; Joe Jr. (Jessie) Peters and their daughter, Chelsea, Milwaukee.

Joe is further survived by his three sisters, Dorothy VanSistine, Appleton; Jane Willi, Howard; Theresa Otis, De Pere; and many other relatives and friends. Dad is also survived by his special companion, Kate Lindeman and her family. In addition to his parents and his wife, Rita, Joe was preceded in death by a son, Tom, and his only brother, Ray (the two Joners are together again hunting and fishing in heaven). He was also preceded in death by many other relatives and friends. Friends may call at St. Joseph Catholic Church, corner of Ninth St. and 12th Ave., from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday (today). There will be a Parish Wake Service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Friends may also call at the church from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Michael Ingold officiating.

Entombment will be held in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Joe's name.
Joes' family would like to thank the many workers, volunteers, family and friends for their genuine love, support and care over the last year. There are too many individuals to list, all of whom made his last days, weeks and months better and more bearable, not only for him, but for all of us. Dad held on to his sense of humor to the end, and while he could dish it out, he was also willing to take his share as well. We will hold onto his memory forever, and some day join him and all of our departed loved ones in the next life where all games bowled equal 300, and all hands dealt are Black Jacks! Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the Peters family.

Joe J. Myrick
God welcomed Joe home on Saturday evening, June 5, 2004, after having sustained courage, faith and a positive attitude while challenged with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) the past year.

Born in North Carolina, March 7, 1939, he grew up in the Eau Claire area. Joe graduated with a bachelor's degree from UWÐStout and a master's degree in administration. He began his career working on the Minuteman Missile in South Dakota. His journey then became the education sector. A committed leader serving 37 years within the Wisconsin Technical College system, teaching for two years before joining the administrative realms. His incredible leadership was truly an asset for our community, especially for those with whom he worked. Joe's involvement with the Rotary Club spanned many years. After retiring in 2000, Joe became a limo driver and school bus driver. He was a handyman and learned to operate large machinery. In 2003, he and his wife established the At My Express Java Connection in Howard with partners.

During Joe's youth, he was involved with the baseball team in Eau Claire. He spent hours there, being a batboy to many of the players who went to Eau Claire. He met the legendary baseball player Hank Aaron. One day on the third base bench, Hank offered Joe $10 if he could recite the Lord's Prayer. Joe obliged and received the $10 and a lifetime memory. A precious gift in the past months, Joe received a phone call from Hank Aaron. Hank is a religious man. Joe was thankful for each day God provided to enjoy his life with his wife and their family and friends.

He leaves on this earth, his wife, Joanne Athey; his children, Jennifer Myrick and Major James and Laura Myrick, Savannah, Ga.; his stepchildren, Karla and John Baumgartner, Eden Prairie, Minn., Brian Bulkowski, De Pere; four grandchildren, Colton, Jocelyn, Jared and Lily; his sister, Eileen and Jim Bizeau; his step-mom, Anne Myrick, Altoona, Wis.; his special cousin, Sherry Southard and her husband Don; sister-in-law, Jeannette and Jeff Schwartz and brothers-in-law, John and Rhonda Athey, Jerold and Susan Athey, James and Sharon Athey. Incredible friends here on earth he cherished, so numerous to mention each of them.

Those who have gone before him include his parents, Nettie (Tubbs) Wojahn and Vincent Myrick; his parents-in-law, Norbert and Helen Athey.

Joe's journey with ALS was accompanied by one of their calico cats, who occupied his lap endlessly each and every day with him.

Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at the Calvary Lutheran Church, 1301 S. Ridge Road, where a Service of Remembrance will be held at 6:00 p.m. with the Rev. Earl Vorpagel, III officiating. Lyndahl Funeral Home is serving the family.

The family would ask that in lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being collected for the ALS Foundation for research.
