Marie Arlene (DeVost) Berg

Marie Arlene (DeVost) Berg, 95, a resident of Santa Maria Nursing Home in Green Bay, died December 3, 2004. She was born January 10, 1909, to John and Zoe (La Chapelle) De Vost at Dunbar, Wis. The family moved to Gladstone, Mich., in 1910. She attended All Saints Grade School and was a 1926 graduate of Gladstone High School. On August 19, 1933, she married Milton Berg, a log scaler by occupation and mayor of Gladstone from 1939 to 1942. Mr. & Mrs. Berg were active in the Gladstone Senior Citizen Center. Mr. Berg died March 18, 1995.

After the death of her only son, John Arthur Berg, in 1998, Mrs. Berg moved to Green Bay to be near only daughter Barbara (Mrs. Gerald) Downey.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law and her daughter-in-law, Carol (Mrs. John) Berg. On November 23, 2004, her great-grandson, Sgt. Benjamin Edinger USMC, died of wounds received in Iraq. Mrs. Berg died the day of his wake.

Other survivors include grandchildren, John and David Berg, Judy Anderson, Kathleen Gille, Rosanna Scannell and Timothy, William, Denis, Christen, James, Charles, Bridget and Sarah Downey and many great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Gladstone, Mich. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone with Father Arnold Grambow officiating. A luncheon will be served following the funeral service in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in the Fernwood Cemetery. Anthony G. Czech
Anthony G. Czech, 69, longtime resident of Green Bay, died Monday December 6, 2004, at a local hospital after a three year journey fighting cancer. He was born May 9, 1935, in Oconto County to the late Joseph and Anna (Mazur) Czech. He graduated from Pulaski High School in the Class of l953. Anthony served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1953 to 1961. He had been employed by Wisconsin Bearing for many years. On August 4, l978, Tony married Meredith Olson. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and he loved spending time with his "Little Buddy".

Survivors include his wife, Meredith; eight children and their spouses, Gregg and Kay Czech, Debbi Hrubesky, Scott and Patricia Crevier, Michael and Carrie Czech, Lori and Larry Micolichek, Stephen Czech, David and Carrie Czech, Toshia and Chuck Buchholz; 18 grandchildren, Katherine, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Emily, Whitney, Michele, Casey, Carly, Randy, Jenny, Tami, Stacy, Nathan, Joey, Alex, Madeleine, Sophie and Leisl; a brother, Leon Czech; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Roselle Czech, Bernice and Steve Nosalik.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara and his sister, Helen.

Friends may call at St. Jude Catholic Church from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Michael Ingold officiating. Burial will be in Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery, Pulaski. A memorial fund is being established for Hope Lodge in Rochester, Minnesota. The Czech family would like to extend a special thank you to Drs. Eric Edell and Tim Hobday of the Mayo Clinic. They would also like to thank Dr. Jules Blank and the nurses of Green Bay Oncology as well as all of their supportive neighbors.

Michael H. Turriff
Michael H. Turriff, 66, of De Pere, passed away Monday, December 6, 2004, at home. Mike was born September 14, 1938, and was the son of the late Roy and Margarette (Vanderheiden) Turriff. He was a 1956 graduate of Nicolet High School in De Pere and a 1957 graduate of the Barber School in Green Bay. Mike married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Pollatz in 1959, sharing 45 years together. Mike operated his own barbershop, Mike's Barber Shop, for 15 years on Shawano Avenue in Green Bay. Mike was a veal grower for 30-plus years and also was a veal representative for White Clover Dairy and Real Veal for many years. He enjoyed his greenhouse, fish pond, mowing his son's grass and four-wheeler riding with his grandchildren. Mike will be remembered as a family man and a man of deep faith. His entire life was devoted to God and his family. He loved his grandchildren.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Pat, four children, and 13 grandchildren, Tina and Tom Kocken and their three sons, Alex, Spencer, and Sam; Todd and Kelly (Farah) Turriff and their four children, Emily, Ethan, Anna, and Brittany; Sherry and Cody Yanzick and their three daughters, Melanie, Alyssa, and Olivia; Scott and Janelle (Mitchell) Turriff and their three children, Madeline, Samantha and Michael; two brothers, Pat (Sharon) Turriff and Bill (Sharon) Turriff, one brother-in-law, Gary (Rosemarie) Pollatz; nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lois and four grandchildren, Ben, Luke, Nick and Jonah.

Friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME , 305 N. Tenth St., De Pere from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Parish prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue after 10 a.m. Thursday, December 9, 2004, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, De Pere, until time of service. Sister Valeria Ann Borlee, O.S.F.
Sister Valeria Ann Borlee, 75, of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, died on Friday, Dec. 3, 2004 at 1 a.m. at St. Francis Convent, Springfield, Ill.

Sister Valeria Ann was born in Red River, Wisconsin on Dec. 18, 1928, the daughter of Fred and Mary Vendervest Borlee. She entered the Congregation on Feb. 1, 1947 and professed her religious vows on Oct. 4, 1949.

Sister was a 1953 graduate of St. John's Hospital School of Nursing. She earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from St. Louis University in 1963 and a master's degree in gerontology from Sangamon State University in 1980. She served the community as a registered nurse at hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin; she was a nursing instructor at St. John's Hospital School of Nursing from 1963-1970 and the Streator School of Practical Nursing from 1971-1972. From 1972 until 1989, she served in the physical therapy department at the Motherhouse. She volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital, Green Bay, Wis. from 1989-2000. She returned to the Motherhouse in 2000 and volunteered in several areas there since that time.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Fred Borlee. She is survived by four sisters: Cecilia Howe, Green Bay, Wis.; Barbara Schick, De Pere, Wis.; Donna Hostelter, Jackson, Wis; and Regina Antonie, Brookfield, Wis.; and four brothers: Robert, Richard and Bernard Borlee, Green Bay, Wis. and Joseph Borlee, Bolingbrook, Ill.; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and her Franciscan Sisters with whom she shared her life for 57 years.

Visitation will be held at the Motherhouse from 4-7 p.m. with a wake service at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004. The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father David Eckelkamp, OFM on Monday, Dec. 6, 2004 at 9 a.m. in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at the Motherhouse. Burial will be in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery. Staab Funeral Home, 1109 S. Fifth St., Springfield, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.

Richard Burroughs
Richard Burroughs, 63, Lake Panorama, former Green Bay resident. Memorial services 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Guthrie Center, Iowa. Survivors include his wife, Denise Burroughs, Lake Panorama; sons, Brian (Lori) Burroughs, Kevin (Jennifer) Burroughs, all of Green Bay; five grandchildren; brother, Gary (Linda) Burroughs, Lititz, Penn. The Rev. Gene W. Crooks
The Rev. Gene W. Crooks, 73, Abrams, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004. He was born March 1, 1931 in Oconto and was raised in Green Bay. His parents were Stanley Crooks and Mae (Porter) Crooks Norgaard. He graduated from Green Bay East High School in 1949 and later graduated from Beloit College. He received his master's degree from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (Presbyterian Church USA) in 1964. Rev. Crooks' first church assignment was in Marengo, Iowa. He served as a Presbyterian minister for 40 years, serving churches in Iowa, South Dakota, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Rev. Crooks also ministered as Director of Substance Abuse Centers in Iowa, Illinois and New Mexico. His most recent assignment was as parish associate at First Presbyterian Church in Green Bay. Rev. Crooks was honorably retired from the Winnebago Presbytery. All who knew Gene knew he was an avid Packer fan. He enjoyed the North woods of Wisconsin, the Boundary Waters, and he enjoyed candle making. He was also an environmentalist and loved to travel.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia; a son and daughter-in-law, Gregg W. and Barbara Crooks, Illinois; two daughters and sons-in-law, Loreilyn and Steve Rowe, Kansas; Ginger and Tom Rasmussen, Iowa; a foster son, Dave Davis and his fiancee, Shelly, Florida; three stepchildren and their husbands, Susan Anderson and her fiance, Mike, Minnesota, Julie and Mike Dally, Minnesota, Vicki and Capt. James Hayes, Texas; 14 grandchildren; his aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Arthur Norgaard.

Family will receive friends at First Presbyterian Church, 200 S. Ashland Ave., from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and also from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday. A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Dr. Steve Shive officiating.

The Crooks family wishes to express their gratitude to the Deacons at First Presbyterian Church and the staff of the ICU at Aurora BayCare.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in his name. Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Emily M. 'Millie' Lee
Emily M. "Millie" Lee, 90, died Saturday, December 4, 2004. She was born April 9, 1914 in Chicago, Ill. to Enrico Chiappe and Clorinda Ginocchio. In January of 1934, she married Francis J. "Jim" Lee in Chicago, Ill. Millie and Jim moved to LaCrosse, where they raised their family. Jim preceded her in death December 4, 1964. In her later years, she resided in Oregon, Ill., before moving to the Green Bay area.

Survivors include three children and their spouses, Betty (Lee) Dyer, Winneconne, Richard F. and Mary Lee, Oregon, Ill., James C. and Billie Lee, Ashwaubenon; ten grandchildren, Doug Dyer, Debbie Dyer, Dan Dyer, Chris (Jack) McKenzie, Rick (Brenda) Lee, Rob (Kimberley) Lee, Tom (Kathy) Lee, Julie (Kevin) Landsinger, Eddie Lee, Jackie Lee; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Bunny Chiappe, Dorothea "Dot" Chiappe; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Darrel L. Dyer; her parents; three brothers, Charles, Andrew and Lawrence Chiappe and one sister, Mary Witt.

Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 2270 S. Oneida St., Ashwaubenon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with Rev. James Hablewicz officiating. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery, LaCrosse. Dale LeMay
Dale LeMay, 74, Green Bay. Visitation 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., in Green Bay. Memorial service 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Survivors include three sons, Mike (Nancy) Lemay, Greg (Brenda) LeMay, Scott LeMay; two daughters, Robin (Peter) Herber, Cindy (David) LeQua; 14 grandchildren; one sister, Marcella/Babka.

James R. "Jim" Process
James R. "Jim" Process, 54, a lifelong Green Bay resident, is at rest after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed peacefully with his family at his side Friday, December 3, 2004. He was born Feb.19, 1950 to John and Ethel (DeMuth) Process. Jim attended SS. Peter and Paul Grade School and was a 1968 graduate of Premontre High School and a graduate of Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. On June 10, 2004 he celebrated a Commitment Blessing with Christine (Rondeau) Pickl. Jim was an Eagle Scout and a 25-year volunteer with the Boy Scouts, helping his son to achieve the Eagle Scout Award. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his partner, Christine; one son, John Process, and his friend, Sara LaPlante; his daughter, Jenna, who he walked down the aisle in August to unite her in marriage to Matthew Baum; two stepchildren and their spouses, Amanda Pickl and Dan Radle, Elisabeth and Matt Katers; two step-grandchildren, Connor and Faith; his parents, John and Ethel Process; two brothers and one sister, Jerry (Marion) Process, Dennis Process, Connie Bartlett; nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Christine's family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Process.

Jim's family extends a special thank you to Rev. Michael Baucom of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Oncology Center at St. Vincent Hospital, Dr. Michael Volk, and all of the family and friends who loved and supported us throughout Jim's illness.

Paul K. "Wally" Stone
Paul K. "Wally" Stone, 39, Iola, formerly Green Bay. Visitation 9:30-11 a.m. Monday at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 1024 Shawano Ave. Funeral service 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Survivors include two daughters, Amanda Vasquez, Ashley Willmann, Lisa Nyikos; his mother, Joan Stone; his father, Kenneth Stone; his fiancee, Kathryn Jeffers.

George L. Van Schyndel
George L. Van Schyndel, 88, Oneida, died early Friday morning, Dec. 3, 2004, at a Green Bay hospital. He was born March 12, 1916, in Little Chute, Wis., to the late John and Petronella (Vanden Hogen) Van Schyndel. When he was five the family moved to Oneida, where they farmed for many years. George married Edna Noe on Oct. 13, 1942, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, in Isaar. They celebrated 47 years together, with Edna "Betty" preceding him in death on May 2, 1989. George worked for many years in the paper industry, retiring from American Can in 1979. He was an excellent carpenter, gardener, and storyteller. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing and singing silly Holland songs. He raised chickens and other farm animals. Generous in heart, he shared much with others. He took great delight in all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was very caring to his wife. His white cat, Kitty, became his close companion after her death. George was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oneida, where he served as an altar boy in his youth.

He is survived by his children, David (Jean), Oneida, Dianne (Bob) Ellis, De Pere, Donna (Tim) Huettl, Seymour, Linda (Don) Patzke, Howard, Sue Duben and John Van Schyndel, both of Oneida. He is further survived by his daughter-in-law, Mary Pat Van Schyndel, Seymour; 36 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Dolores Van Schyndel, Green Bay.

He was preceded in death by his son, George W. Van Schyndel; four brothers, John, Marty, Tony and Ted; also his three sisters, Ann Van Boxtel, Marie Daoust, and Dorothy Jacques.

Main St., Seymour on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, the "Feast of St. Nicholas", at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 145 St. Joseph's Drive, Oneida, from 9 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., with Father Bill Swichtenberg officiating. The burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Thank you to all who made Dad's life happy, helping him attain fullness of life. The family thanks the medical community, and in a special way, the staff at St. Vincent Hospital and Dr. Lamont. Many thanks to all who enjoyed a good chicken dinner with Dad, especially Rose and the late Bill VanBoxtel. And a special thank you to Sr. Cecilia Noe, Wrentham, MA, for all her prayers.
