Robert F. Nelson
Robert F. Nelson, 87, Green Bay, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at home surrounded by his family due to complications of lung cancer. Born in Sturgeon Bay on March 10, 1917, he is the son of the late Carl and Anna (McTaggart) Nelson. On May 1, 1954, he married Carol DeGroot at SS. Peter & Paul Parsonage. Last year they celebrated 50 years together. Robert sailed the Great Lakes for 14 years. During the winter months he worked for Drop Forge and Kraft Steel. He also had a job as a motorcycle delivery man for Arndts Delivery. He retired from American Can Company (Georgia-Pacific East) in 1979. Robert enjoyed playing cards, camping, and fishing with family and friends. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting. Robert also enjoyed watching sports of any kind. Bob enjoyed getting together with fellow retirees. On the first Thursday of the month he would stuff envelopes and play cards. The third Thursday of the month he enjoyed breakfast and playing cards with his buddies.

Survived by his wife, Carol; four children and their families: Clyde and Wendy Nelson and their children Stacy (with special friend Steve), Craig, and Scott of Shawano, Wis., and Kingsford, Mich.; Dan and Kathy Nelson and their children Andrea, Lauren, and Paul of Seymour; Anna and Dan Bonjean and their children Andrew and Bridget of Green Bay; Larry Nelson and his children Jacqueline, Katrina and Robert (Bobby, his namesake) of Green Bay; two great grandsons: Drew and Landon; brothers-in-law: Carl (Marlene) DeGroot of Green Bay; Douglas Jackson of Elroy; special nephew: Dave Nelson. Also preceded in death by his sister: Elaine Nelson; two brothers: Clyde Nelson and Kenneth (Mary) Nelson; many sisters-in-law and brother-in-law.

Visitation at MALCORE Funeral Home, University Avenue at Baird Street, from 4-8 p.m. Friday and prior to the funeral on Saturday. Prayer service 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Funeral services Saturday 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Barbara Ristow presiding. Entombment in the Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Aurora (VNA) Hospice for the special care given to Robert and his family during this difficult time.

Robert will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle.

Genevieve C. ('Gen' Destiche) Verhaagh
Genevieve C. ("Gen" Destiche) Verhaagh, 92, village of Howard, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005. She was born Dec. 29, 1912, in Green Bay to William and Mary (DeMuth) Destiche. In 1934 she married Leo Verhaagh. Genevieve had been employed for many years as a beautician with her sister at Gloria Beauty Shop. She was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Parish and was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis. Mrs. Verhaagh was a devout woman and often visited the Chapel in Robinsonville on August 15. Mr. and Mrs. Verhaagh enjoyed their cottage on Edgewater Beach.

Survivors include five children and their spouses, Donna and William Drabes, New Franken, David Verhaagh and his special friend, Susan Duben, Dennis and Kathy Verhaagh, all of Green Bay; Peter Verhaagh, Howard; Mary Verhaagh, Oconto; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers and one sister-in-law, William and Jeanne Destiche, Roland Destiche, all of Green Bay; John Destiche, St. Germaine; a sister-in-law, Eleanore Destiche, Green Bay; two brothers-in-law, Aubrey DeVore, Bowling Green, Ky.; Paul Mazzoleni, Green Bay; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; two sons, Thomas and Paul; four brothers, Bernard, Norbert, Alvin and Paul Destiche; three sisters, Madeline Destiche, Rosalyn DeVore, Mary Mazzoleni.

Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. Friends may also call at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2597 Glendale Ave., village of Howard, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Greg Smith officiating. Burial will be in Allouez Catholic Cemetery.

The Verhaagh family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Pierre Slightam and the staff of Santa Maria Nursing Home for their care of Genevieve during her illness.
