Leo Wadas

BUTTERNUT — Leo P. Wadas, age 73, of Butternut, died accidentally Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, in Butternut.

He was born on April 11, 1929, in Butternut, the son of John and Emilia (Golonco) Wadas. He was a graduate of the Butternut High School and worked on his family farm in Butternut.

He is survived by two sisters, Janie (Bernard) Boik of Clayton, N.C., and Helen (Clayton) Kopanski of Phelps; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jenny, and two brothers, Stanley and Ted.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Butternut. Fr. James Jackson will officiate.

A visitation will be held on Monday from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service at the church.

Burial will follow at St. Cecelia Catholic Cemetery in Butternut.

George Rose

George A. Rose, 74, Glidden, died Wednesday, August 7, 2002 at his home. He was born on September 29, 1927 in Cornell, the son of George Royal and Eunice (Webster) Rose.

His early life and schooling were in Cornell. After his schooling, he entered the United States Navy, serving during WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and retired after 20 years as a Chief Petty Officer. On September 23, 1950 he married Lila Comstock in Cornell. The family moved to St. Paul, Minn. where George served as a recruiting officer until 1964. In 1971, the couple moved to Detroit Lakes, Minn. where he worked as a truck driver and as a greenskeeper at the golf course. In 1978, the couple moved to Glidden, where he worked for the United States Forest Service. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer. He was a member of the Glidden VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Lila, of Glidden; five children, George (Laurie) Rose of Lake Elmo, Minn., Greg Rose of St. Paul, Minn., Scott (Wendy) Rose of St. Paul, Minn., Cheryl (Joe Bradsteen) Rose of St. Paul, Minn., and Michelle (Rob Hodgkins) Rose of St. Paul, Minn.; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Harold (Carol) Rose of St. Paul, Minn., and Robert (Muriel) Rose of St. Paul, Minn.; four sisters, Ruby Porter of Holcombe, Betty Gaines of Rockford, Ill., Norma (Maynard) McManus of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., and Helen (Lowell) Huber of Cornell; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 12 at 2:30 p.m. from the Novitzke Funeral Home Chapel in Park Falls. Rev. Stanley Bahn will officiate. Military rites will follow the service under the auspices of the Glidden American Legion and VFW Posts.

A visitation will be held on Monday from 1:30 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Margaret Share

Margaret Ann Share, age 78, of Monroe, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at her home following a lengthy illness.

Margaret was born July 4, 1924, in Ashland, the daughter of Joseph and Barbara (Fisher) Jardinski. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1942. She served in the U.S.N.R. medical corps as a Pharmacist Mate Third Class Petty Officer from July 1945 until July 1946. She married Delbert Share on Nov. 16, 1946, in Ashland. Margaret worked with her husband at Hoffman Dry Cleaners in Monroe for many years. She was a member of St. Victor Catholic Church, Monroe.

Survivors include her husband, Delbert; two daughters, Barbara Kloos of Dublin, Ga., and Debra Townsend of Cottage Grove; four sons, Randy (Karen) Share of Coppell, Texas; Kevin (Vicki) Share of Monroe, Jon (Linda) Share of Cottage Grove, and Robert Share of Green Bay; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Alan Jardinski of Cordova, Alaska, and James (Bobbi) Jardinski of Bellingham, Wash.; and one sister, Joan (Joe) Nroman of Pocomoke, Md.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Lynn Share, a brother, Thomas Jardinski, and her parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, at St. Victor Catholic Church, Monroe, with Fr. Michael Klarer officiating. Burial with full military rites will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Monroe.

Friends may call at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, on Monday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., and at the church on Tuesday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

A Rosary service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 8 p.m. A memorial fund will be established in Margaret’s name for the Special Olympics.

Donald DeFoe

Donald L. DeFoe, 63, 117 W. 3rd St. Ashland, passed away, Friday, August 9, 2002, at his home. He was born March 2, 1939, in Bayfield, the son of John T. and Dorothy I. (Sands) DeFoe.

He attended the Holy Family School in Bayfield. After his schooling, he served in the U.S. Army for a couple of years. He moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he was married and raised his two children. He later moved to Texas where he worked as a roofer for several years.

He is survived by his two sons, Michael (Elizabeth Johnson) DeFoe and Christopher DeFoe both of Tulsa, Okla.; a grandson, Isaiah James Boulley; six brothers, Marvin (Virginia) DeFoe of Cornucopia, Eugene (Shirley) DeFoe of Ashland, John DeFoe of Hurley, William (Linda) DeFoe of Ontario, Calif., Jim (Sandy) DeFoe of Ashland and Joe Clement DeFoe of Ashland; four sisters, Alice (Ken) Cadotte of La Pointe, Margie (Rocky) Schmidt of Minneapolis, Minn., Betty (Ken) Lepisto of Shawano and Christine DeFoe of Rice Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy.

A graveside service and inurnment will be held at 1 p.m., today at the Calvary Cemetery in Bayfield, with Fr. John Baton, O.F.M. officiating.

The Frost Home for Funerals of Ashland is assisting the family with arrangements.

Elizabeth ‘Biz’ Cadotte

Elizabeth Kate "Biz" Cadotte, 16, 25930 Star Route Road in the Town of Bayfield, died Friday, August 9, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth, Minn. as a result of injuries from a car accident She was born January 11, 1986, in Ashland, the daughter of Paul R. and Anna M. (Zynda) Cadotte.

She would have been in 11th grade at Bayfield High School this fall and was working at the Bayfield Inn in Bayfield where she had worked the past three summers. Biz was an avid Packer fan and enjoyed playing football, basketball, going to baseball games, making dream catchers, collecting wolf images and memorabilia, visiting with friends on the Internet, hanging out with friends downtown and going to the beach in the summertime.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Bayfield and formerly a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Cornucopia.

She is survived by her parents, Paul and Anna Cadotte of the Town of Bayfield; a sister, Jaime Cadotte of Washburn; a brother, Josh Cadotte of Marquette, Mich.; a nephew, Devon Cadotte of Washburn; paternal grandparents, Larry and Caroline Cadotte of Town of Bayfield; aunts, uncles, great aunts, great uncles, cousins including special cousins, Sara and Kyle Cadotte and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Leona Vogds, uncle, Leonard Zynda, great-grandparents, great aunts and great uncles.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Bayfield. Father John Eaton OFM will officiate.

Visitation will from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bratley Funeral Home in Washburn with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service.

Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Belanger Settlement in the Town of Bayfield.

Memorials may be made to the St. Louis School in Washburn.

August ‘Augie’ Maas

August “Augie” F. Maas, age 85, of Route 4, Ashland, passed away Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at Memorial Medical Center in Ashland.

Augie was born April 20, 1917, in Washburn, the son of Otto and Emma (Schoer) Maas. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran serving from 1942 to 1945. After serving his country he sailed on the Great Lakes, then worked for the Kinkle Cabinet Manufacturing Company before starting work with the Tomlinson Construction Company, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and polka music.

Survivors include his very special friend, Ann Miller of Mason; brother, Herbert Mass of Omaha, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Louise Engen; brothers, Ernest, Carl and Norman; and nephew, Gordon Engen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Saint Anne Catholic Church in Sanborn, with Fr. John Scheer as celebrant.

Interment will take place in Saint Anne Cemetery, Sanborn.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, at the Mountain Funeral Home, Ashland, with a United Chequamegon Area Veterans service to be held at 7:15 and a prayer service at 7:30.

The Mountain Funeral Home, Ashland and Mellen, is assisting the family with arrangements.
