Jeremy Collins

PHILLIPS — Jeremy Lee Collins, 22, Phillips died on Wednesday, August 14, 2002, at Shell Lake. He was born in Medford on May 27, 1980.

He was a 1998 graduate of the Phillips High School, and was completing his fourth year at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota, with a major in Pro Flight Aviation. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the St. John Youth Group, the Boy Scouts of America, and the 4-H. While in High School he was active in wrestling and cross country. In his free time he enjoyed carpentry.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. Thomas Reiff officiating.

Inurnment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Phillips.

Friends may call at the Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips after 5 p.m.. today, and at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.

He is survived by his parents, Mary and George Collins of Phillips; his sister, Jenny Collins, Eau Claire; and his maternal grandmother, Grace Schwendimann, Hartford.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Walter Schwendimann, and his paternal grandparents, Elva Louise and Leo Collins.

The Heindl Funeral Home, Phillips, is in charge of arrangements.

Francis ‘Frank’ Strycharske

Francis "Frank" M. Strycharske, 76, 21405 Moquah Pit Road, Ashland, passed away Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, at Memorial Medical Center in Ashland. Frank was born Dec. 9, 1925, in Aniwa, the son of Michael and Mary A. (Ora) Strycharske.

On April 14, 1951, he was united in marriage to Sylvia J. Griffin, in Milwaukee. He was employed by Northern States Power Co., now Xcel Energy as an engineer for over 20 years, retiring in 1990. His hobbies included, gardening, photography, coin and stamp collecting.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Sylvia, of rural Ashland; daughters, Catherine "Star" Strycharske of Superior, Jane (James) Sigfrids of Superior, Mary Strycharske of Pasadena, Calif.; and Margaret Strycharske of Concord, Calif.; sons, Michael (Vicky) of Tampa, Fla., Mark (Louise) Charlestown, West Virginia, John of Leesburg, Virginia; eight grandchildren and three nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Clarence.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Ashland with Father Andre Schludecker, O.F.M., as celebrant.

Interment will take place in the Saint Boniface Cemetery in Aniwa, on Tuesday.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Mountain Funeral Home in Ashland.

Brother Patrick Bietka

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Brother Patrick Bietka, FFSC, 93, died at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, at St. Francis Convent, Springfield, Ill. He was born Stanley Joseph Bietka on March 8, 1909, in Bandysze, Poland, the son of Frank and Rosalia (Swider) Bietka.

His family immigrated to the United States on August 15, 1913, and settled in Ashland. Stanley married in 1941, a marriage that lasted 24 years. In 1967, after his wife Mary's death, Stanley entered the Franciscan Brothers of the Holy Cross and was invested on August 15, 1967, made first profession August 15, 1969 and his perpetual vows on August 15, 1974.

In his community Brother Patrick served the. Church at St. James Trades School, St. Coletta in Jefferson, Wis., St. Anthony's Novitiate, Riverton, and Brother James Court. He served in ministry as instructor, woodworker and leadership in' the community.

Brother Patrick was the eldest of seven children all of whom have preceded him in death.

A nephew Paul Bietka, Ashland, and great nieces and nephews survive.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at St. Joseph the Worker Chapel at St. James Monastery with a 6:30 p.m. Rosary Service.

A Funeral Mass will take place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph the Worker Chapel at St. James Monastery in Springfield, Ill. with Rev. Tony Thieman officiating.

Burial will be at Resurrection Hill Cemetery.

The Staab Funeral Home, 1109 S. 5th St., Springfield, Ill. 62703, is in charge of arrangements.

Iris Pratt, 65,

BAYFIELD — Iris Marie Pratt, 65, 27005 S. Pratt Road, Bayfield, passed away Monday, September 30, 2002, at her home. She was born November 12, 1936, in Bayfield, the daughter of James and Dorothy (Goslin) Bard.

She attended school in Bayfield. She married Clarence D. Pratt on February 14, 1951, in Ashland. Over the next several years, she raised her family and many foster children. She later worked on Madeline Island as a waitress and a housekeeper for a couple of years. She also worked as a nurses aide for 20 years at the Bayfield County Nursing Home until her retirement in 1997. She was a member of Washburn Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed music, reading, knitting, camping at Birch Grove and being with her family.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Clarence D. Pratt Sr. of Bayfield; six children, Edmund (Jane) Lamoreaux of Superior, Sharon Lamoreaux of Iron River, Diann (Joe) Viater of Bayfield, Clarence D. (Pam) Pratt Jr. of Bayfield, Karen (Rick) Schibur of Shakopee, Minn., and Jeffery Pratt Sr. of Washburn; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, James Bard of California; two sisters, Gwene (Herb) Roberts of Minneapolis, and Laura (Joe) Corbine of Odanah; special adopted grandchildren, April, Kristen and Jennifer; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Louise Bard; two sisters, Corrine Bard and Marjorie Coon; and a brother, Ronald "Hans" Bard Sr.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, at the Washburn Assembly of God Church with Pastor Jon Arneson officiating.

Interment will be held in the Greenwood Cemetery in Bayfield.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, at the Bratley Funeral Home in Washburn.

The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Friday.

Memorials may be made to the Washburn Assembly of God Church.

Elnora ‘Nora’ Liebelt, 60,

PARK FALLS — Elnora "Nora" Liebelt, 60, Park Falls, died Sunday Sept. 29, 2002, at Flambeau Hospital in Park Falls. She was born on January 2, 1942, in Unity, the daughter of Martin Theodore and Margaret Marie (Cain) Damrow.

Her early life and schooling were in Park Falls. She married Raymond Setterman, who preceded her in death and was formerly married to Donald Liebelt. She was the co-owner/operator of Liebelt's Supper Club in Park Falls for many years.

She is survived by four children: Cynthia (Dan) Wagner of Park Falls; Wendy (Kevin Schock) Setterman of Glidden; Joel (Molly Barron) Setterman of Green Bay; and Donald (Brita) Liebelt Jr. of Tomahawk; 10 grandchildren: Daniel Jr., Michelle, Elizabeth, Kaitlynn, and Emma Nora Wagner, Renee and Jason Weinberger, and Raymond "RJ", Erik, and Brandon Setterman; a great-granddaughter: Taylor Ann; four sisters: Marion Stubblefield of Park Falls; Marcella (Don) Weimer of Park Falls; Janet (Alan) Krause of Fernley, Nevada; Margie Williams of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three brothers: Herbert (Lorraine) Damrow of Park Falls; Theodore (Helen Dezotell) Damrow of Park Falls; Bill (Karen) Damrow of Racine; an uncle, Sidney (Ruth) Cain of Park Falls; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 1, from Peace Lutheran Church in Park Falls. Rev. Bryan Lundquist will officiate.

Burial will follow at Nola Cemetery in Park Falls.

A visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service at the church.

The Novitzke Funeral Home, Park Falls, is handling the arrangements.

Carl Wichlidal, 76,

BAYFIELD — Carl William Wichlidal, 76, 32490 Star Route Road, Bayfield, died Friday, September 27, 2002, at his home. He was born Nov. 23, 1925, in Bayfield, the son of Anton "Tony" and Elizabeth (Ofloy) Wichlidal.

He was a longtime resident of the Town of Bayfield and a U.S. Navy World War II veteran. On February 25, 1957, he married Josephine B. Olin in Lovelock, Nevada. He owned and operated a Ford dealership and an implement dealership in Washburn for a few years and was a Ford auto and truck salesman for over SO years in Washburn, Mellen and Ashland. He had worked for DuPont in Barksdale for several years, was a police officer for the City of Bayfield, a Bayfield County Sheriff's Deputy and was currently serving as a Bayfield County Court bailiff.

He was a co-founder and past president of the Bayfield Trollers Association and operated two trolling boats for over 10 years. He was co-founder and chairman of the Bayfield Ambulance Committee for over 20 years and was Town Chairman for the Town of Bayfield for many years. He had served on various committees for the City and County of Bayfield over the years and enjoyed farming, raising beef cattle and Arabian horses.

He was an active member of the Bayfield Presbyterian Church serving as Elder, an active member of the Bayfield-Washburn Masonic Lodge No. 215 F & AM and the Bayfield American Legion Post No. 49.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine. Town of Bayfield; eight children, Kathy Brotherton of Duluth, Minn., Lora Mullaney of Wausau, Richard Wichlidal of Wausau, William Lowrie of Bayfield, Sharon (Mark) Rogholt of Little Canada, Minn., Randy (Sharon) Wichlidal of Superior, Carl Wichlidal Jr. of Bayfield, and Karen (Jeff) Boutin of Bayfield; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous cousins and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Emily Larson.

The funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the Bayfield Presbyterian Church in Bayfield. Rev. John Green will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today, at the Bratley Funeral Home in Washburn with a 7:30 p.m. Masonic Lodge service. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday.

A graveside service with military honors will be held in the Greenwood Cemetery in Bayfield following the funeral.

Memorials may be made to the Bayfield-Washburn Masonic Lodge No. 215 F & AM.
