Mary Paoli, 79, of rural Browntown, died at her home Sunday. A memorial service will be Saturday at 4 pm at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, where friends may call Saturday 12 noon until time of services. The Steil-Camacho Funeral Home of Monroe is serving the family. Mary was born in 1923. While working at the USO Club in Fort Brady during World War II, she met and later married Attilio Paoli. Together they moved and raised their family in Chicago. In 1980, they moved to rural Browntown. Survivors include seven sons Santino, Michael, Thomas, Theodore, Mark, Steven and Ronald; a daughter Madeline Allison; a sister Carmen Guaiazzi; 16 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Edwin Eberhardt , 93, of New Glarus, died Thursday at Pleasant View. Graveside services will be held Monday at 11 am at Swiss Church Cemetery. The Zentner-Beal Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Edwin was born in Calamine in 1909, the son of Trougatt and Pauline Eberhardt. He was a laborer for many years. He is survived by his guardian Bonnie Zurfluh of Albany, and his extended family of caregivers and staff at Pleasant View. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Sue Rooney, 60, of Monroe, died Thursday at Monroe Clinic Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10:30 am at St. Victor's Catholic Church. Visitation will be at the Newcomer Funeral Home in Monroe Monday night 6 to 8 pm. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Monroe. A memorial fund will be established. Sue was born in Rockford in 1942, the daughter of John and Mae Wolff. She moved to Monroe in 1976 and worked as a finance manager at Mitchell Toyota and also was employed at Wal-Mart for 8 years. Survivors include two daughters Guen Rooney of Florida and Mandy Rooney of Naperville, Ill.; a grandson Jackson Rooney of Florida; a brother Louie Wolff of hazelton, N.J.; six sisters Jacqueline Davis of Rockford, Janice Williams of Edgewater, WI., Joyce Greenwood of Rockford, Geraldine Hodges of New Jersey, Jean Davidson of Lakeland, Florida and Joanna Pumilia of Rockford, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Max and Donald Wolff.
Linda Bennett, 64, of Barneveld, formerly of Monroe, died Friday at Bloomfield Nursing Home at Dodgeville. Services will be held Wednesday at 11 am at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, where family and friends may call Tuesday 4-7 pm. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, rural Orangeville. A memorial fund has been established. Linda was born in Stephenson County in 1938, the daughter of Lowell and Elizabeth Barker. She married Clinton Bennett in 1966. She was a day care provider in Monroe for 26 years. Survivors include her sons Brad of Blanchardville, Bruce of Madison, and Brian of Brooklyn; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren; a brother Donald Barker Sr. of Orangeville; a sister Bonita Shilling of Freeport; a sister in law Dorothy Barker of Orangeville... and she was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Robert Barker and a sister Marietta Sheppard.
Vera Heindel, 91, of Monroe, formerly of Gratiot, died Sunday. Services will be Wednesday at 11 am at the Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home in Warren, where friends may call Tuesday 4-8 PM. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Warren. Memorial Fund will be established. Vera was born in 1911 in Lena, the daughter of Henry and Amy Wernicke. She married Edward Heindel in 1940 in Lena and they farmed in the Warren-Gratiot area until 1971. She worked for the Warren School District in the kitchen as a baker from 1963 until 1976. She was a member of the Warren United Methodist Church and the Warren Rebekas. Survivors include: two sons, Larry (Diane) of Monroe and Harold of Gratiot; two grandchildren, Lisa of Monroe and Kerry of Madison.
Howard Priestly, 87, of Darlington, died Sunday at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County. Services will be Thursday at 1 pm at the Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington. Burial in Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington. A visitation will be Thursday at 11 am until time of services at the Erickson Funeral Home. A Masonic Service will be held at 12:30 pm. Howard was born in 1915, the son of George and Fannie Priestly. He married Elna Hansen in 1939 in Iowa, then lived in Darlington for 30 years where he was store manager at A&P Grocery. He moved to Madison, where he worked for RAY-O-VAC as a bookkeeper. Howard Moved to Fort Meyers, FL in 1975, then moved back to Darlington in 1995. He was a member of the Darlington Free and Accepted Masons for over 50 years. Survivors include: his wife, Elna, a sister-in-law, Gladys Priestley of Darlington and several neices and nephews.
Jean Rufener, 47, of Monroe, died Friday at Pleasant View. Arrangements are pending at the Steil-Camacho Funeral Home.
Marcella Peterson, 83, of Monroe, died Monday at Pleasant View Nursing Home. Services will be Thursday at 11 am at the Grace Lutheran Church. Burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday 4-7 pm at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home in Monroe. Memorial fund is being established. Marcella was born in 1920 in Barneveld, the daughter of Thomas and Alma Mickelson. She graduated from Barneveld High School in 1937. Marcella married Ralph Peterson in 1940. She worked for Hoffman Dry cleaners, was a waitress at several Monroe businesses, worked at the Monroe Bakery and for 21 years at the J.C. Penny Store. Marcella was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and several church organizations, Past President and member of Zilmer-Riley American Legion Auxiliary Post #84. Survivors include: her husband, Ralph Peterson of Monroe, sons, Phillip (Jane) Peterson of Grand Blanc, MI., Thomas (Karen) Peterson of Baraboo, and Dennis (Diane) Peterson of Monticello; sisters Lillian Bystol of Fontana, Bernice (Alvin) Thompson of Mt. Horeb, Violet (Walter) Kahl of Mt. Horeb, Darlene (John) Strassman of Verona, Jeanette (John) Richard of Mt. Horeb, Genevieve (Donald) Miller of Stoughton, and Kathleen (Donald) Miller of Stoughton, and Kathleen (Donald) Gordon of Mt. Horeb; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and three special friends, Doris Hendrickson, Beulah McCue, and Kathryn Siedschlag, all of Monroe.
Ora Bahler, 85, of Argyle, died Sunday at the home of her son in Argyle. Services will be Thursday at 11 am at the Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle, where friends may call Thursday from 10 am until time of services. She was born in 1918 in Waldwick, WI, the daughter of Henry and Essie Berg. She married William Bahler, Jr. and moved to Pecatonica, IL, then later to Argyle. She worked as an assistant at Pleasant View Nursing Home, then worked for Lafayette County Home Helpers. She was a member of the Argyle United Methodist Church and its UMW. Ora was an active volunteer for Argyle's Meals on Wheels program. Survivors include: her son: John (Jenny) Bahler of Argyle; seven grandchildren: Sheri (Ron) Jones, Scott (Helen)Dahl, William (Laurie) Bahler, Paul (Ruby)Bahler, William (Beth)Huotari, Richard (Tina) Huotari; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Otis Retrum, 92, of Hollandale, died Sunday at the Mineral Point Care Center. Services will be held Saturday at 11 am at the Hollandale Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Friday night from 4-7 pm at the church with a Masonic Lodge service at 7 pm. Memorials can be made to the church building fund. The Saether Funeral Home in Blanchardville is serving the family. Otis was born in Iowa County in 1911, the son of Melvin and Otilda Retrum. He married Gladys Nelson in 1933. He worked as a patrolman for the Town of Moscow for 52 years driving the grader, helping to build many roads and did private landscaping work. He was president of the Hollandale School Board many years and was a past member of the Hollandale Fire Department. Survivors include three daughters Gloria Hershberger of Madison, June Diel of Mt. Vernon, Ill. and Marie Gilbertson of Hollandale; a sister Lila Finhert of Blanchardville; eight grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son in law Roger Hershberger, three brothers Curtis, Lloyd and Milford and a sister Esther Moen.
Albert Tuescher, 89, of Darlington, died Monday at the Lafayette Manor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10:30 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Visitation is at the Steil-Camacho Funeral Home Thursday 3-8 pm. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery. Bert was born in Wiota Township in 1914, the son of Jacob and Marie Tuescher. He married Mary Dorman in 1939, and they farmed in the Wiota Township area over 40 years. Survivors include his children Jo Frankland of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, Jeanne Sullivan of Rockford, Tom of Milwaukee, Jim and Steve, both of Darlington; 11 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two sisters Margaret Kelly and Gertrude Milne, both in California; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Arlen "Jim" Neff, 67, of Warren, died Monday at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. Services will be Friday at 11 am at the Warren United Methodist Church. Friends may call at the Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home in Warren Thursday night 4-8 pm. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery at Warren. A memorial fund has been established. Jim was born in Lafayette County in 1936, the son of Willard and Edna Neff. He married Linda Toay in 1956 and they farmed on the family farm until moving to Warren. Jim worked at Farm and Fleet in Monroe. Survivors include his wife; his children Rebecca Neff of San Antonio, James and Jon, both of Gratiot and Thomas of Warren; eight grandchildren; mother in law Thelma Toay of Earlville, Indiana
; a brother and sister in law Denis and Janice Toay of Stockton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ivan Marty, 92, of Monticello, died Wednesday at the New Glarus Home. Services will be Friday at 11 am at the Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello, where family and friends may call Friday 9 am until time of services. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. A memorial fund will be established for the Zwingli Church and New Glarus Home. The Voegeli-Newcomer Funeral Home is serving the family. Ivan was born in 1911 in Washington Township, the son of Charles and Bertha Marty. He married Leona Zimmerman in 1934. They farmed for 41 years retiring and moving to Monticello in 1976. He was a former treasurer of the Washington Church and director of the Town Hall Cheese Factory. Survivors include his wife; three children Nathan of Madison, Anna Marie Davison of Monticello and Keith of Menomonee Falls; nine grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and two sisters Gladys Goecks of Monroe and Esther Schmid of Monticello.
Doris Mellenberger, 88, of rural Belleville, died Wednesday at the New Glarus Home. Services will be Saturday at 11 am at the First United Church of Christ where friends may call Saturday 9:30 am until time of services. Burial will be in the Belleville Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. The Becker-Beal Funeral Home is serving the family. Doris was born in 1915 in Brooklyn Township, the daughter of Harry and Ina Butts. She married John Mellenberger in 1934, and they farmed in the Belleville area and retired in 1972. Survivors include two daughters Marilyn of Beleville and Joyce Lapp of Rockford.
Dennis Hawthorne, 51, of Albany, died Wednesday at UW Hospital in Madison. Services will be Monday at 11 am at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home in Monroe, where friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 pm. Private family graveside services will be held at Bethel-Hawthorne Cemetery in Clarno Township. A memorial fund is being established. Dennis was born in Monroe in 1952, the son of William and Beverly Hawthorne. He was a resident of Southern Wisconsin Center at Union Grove for 34 years before moving home to live with his parents. Survivors include his parents William and Clara Hawthorne in Albany; sisters Diana Blumer of Albany, Denise Dunlavy of McFarland, Deanna Ritschard of Argyle and Debbie McNicol of Deforest; a step brother Greg Gutzmer in Washington state; and aunts Dorothy VanMatre of Rockford, Margaret Hawthorne of Crystal Lake, Ill. and Donnabelle in Brodhead. He was preceded in death by his mother Beverly, his grandparents, and an uncle Duane Hawthorne.
Dr. Lyle Olson, 79, of rural Darlington, died Wednesday at Memorial Hospital in Darlington. Arrangements are pending at the Erickson Funeral Home.
Harold "Gene" Lane, 72, of Monroe, died Thursday at Monroe Clinic Hospital. Services will be Monday at 1:30 at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, where friends may call 12:30 until time of services. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Gene was born in 1931 in Coloma, the son of Hervey and Gladys Lane. He graduated from Argyle High School and served in the Marine Corps and the Air Force with a total of 20 years of service. He married Ellen Kohler in Argyle in 1958. He later married Saisamorn Lakonthai in 1973 in Thailand. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for Monroe Clinic Hospital for 14 years. Survivors include his wife; his children Bridget Westphal of Camp Douglas, Connie Lane of Dodgeville and Kathleen Lane of Madison; stepchildren Chatchai "Ott" Luangaram of Monroe and Surachat Luangaram in Thailand; a brother Donald of Monroe, a sister in law Jeanette Lane of Monroe; four grandchildren and five step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Richard and Hervey.
Edna Weegens, 92, of Monroe, died Saturdat at Pleasant View. Services will be Wednesday at 1 pm at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, where family and friends may call Wednesay 12 noon until time of services. Edna was born in 1911 in rural Green County, the daughter of Robert and Louise Dittmer. She lived in Freeport many years, moving back to Monroe in 1988. She worked as an inspector at Micro Switch in Freeport for 15 years, then opened and ran the Hilltop Inn Retarurant and Bar in Forreston, Ill. for several years, then farmed several years. Survivors include a son Robert G. Smith of Monroe; three grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a niece Mary Ann Birch and a nephew Nathan Dittmer, both of New Glarus.
Patrick Quinn, 60, of Gratiot, died Saturday at UW Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10:30 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Gratiot, where family and friends may call Tuesday night 4-8 pm. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. The Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home is serving the family. patrick was born in 1943, the son of Kenneth and Emma Quinn. He graduated from Gratiot HJigh School, and married Mary Upmann in 1967. He was a dairy farmer, farming on the family farm. Survivors include his wife Mary of Gratiot; his mother Emma Quinn-Zweifel of South Wayne; four sons Shawn Quinn of Middleton, Tim Quinn of Monroe, Tom and Michael Quinn, both of Gratiot; eight grandchildren; two brothers Emmet of South Wayne and Charles Quinn of Gratiot; three sisters JoAnn Flannery of Argyle, Marian Olin of Janesville and Nancy Gertsch of Gratiot and many other relatives and friends.
Glen Long, 86, of Warren, died Sunday at FHN Memorial Hospital. Services will be held Thursday at 1 pm at the Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home in Warren where friends may call Wednesday night 4 to 8 pm. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Survivors include his wife; six children Steven of Woodford; Janet Schultz of Ft. Meyers, Glenda Heimann of Juda, Judy Grunder of Monroe, Richard of Warren and Jeri Bender of Cedarville; 19 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Jill Dierckman, 22, of formerly of Monroe, Indianapolis, Indiana
. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 11 at 11 am at the Union Presbyterian Church in Monroe, where family and friends may call Friday Oct 10th from 4-8 pm. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe. Memorials may be made to the Green County Humane Society, or toward a scholarship in her memory. , the daughter of Alvin and Christine Dierckman. She was a Monroe High School graduate. She was a student and nanny in the Madison area and worked with the University of Wisconsin Preschool Lab. Survivors include her parents Al Dierckman of Monroe, Chris Dierckman of Belleville; a sister Kari Sokol of Platteville; grandmother Lorraine Dierckman of Batesville, Indiana
; grandfather John Wagner of Monroe; and many cousins, aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by grandparents Bernard Dierckman and Grace Wagner.
Darrell Sager, 70, of rural Dakota, passed away. Services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 am at Winneshiek Evangelical Free Church, rural Freeport. Visitation is at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Dakota Tuesday night 4 to 8 pm, and at the church Wednesday after 9:30 am. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport. A memorial fund is being established.
Robyn Lynn Bowers, 20, of former Monroe-Brooklyn resident, died Friday at Ft. Atkinson Memorial Hospital. Services will be Wednesday at 11 am at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, where friends may call Tuesday night 4-8 pm. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe. A memorial fund is being established. Robyn was born in 1983, daughter of Randall and Lynn Bowers. She was a Monroe High School graduate and was a junior at UW-Whitewater and worked for the University radio and tv station. Survivors include her mother Lynn in Madison; her father Randall of Brooklyn; grandmothers Beverly Hudson of Monroe and Shirley Bowers of Freeport; and four aunts.
Lowella Pfeifer, 91, of Albany, and Beloit, died Sunday at the Monroe Manor. Services will be Saturday at 1:30 at the Roseberry Funeral Home in Friendship. Visitation will be at the Bifulk Funeral Home in Albany Friday night 5-7 pm, and at the funeral home in Friendship Saturday after 12 noon. Burial will be at Easton Cemetery. She was born in Adams County in 1912, daughter of Roy and Edna Thorne. She married Rudolph Pfeifer in 1936. They lived in Portage until 1941, then moved to Beloit to work at Fairbanks-Morse. After her husband retired, they moved to Albany. Survivors include a daughter Marilyn Dean of Albany; six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; a brother Wayne Thorne of Wisconsin Dells and a sister Lois Engnath of Mt. Horeb.
Olga Ihus, 73, of Lancaster, formerly of Blanchardville and Chippewa Falls, died Tuesday at Orchard Manor at Lancaster. Services will be Monday at 1:30 at the Saether Funeral Home, where family and friends may call Monday after 12:30 pm. Burial will be in Moscow Cemetery, rural Blanchardville. Olga was born in 1930, daughter of Olaf and Anna Ihus. She lived in Chippewa Falls many years and returned to the Blanchardville area in 1974 where she lived with Wilma Johnson until Wilma's death. She then lived with Ann McConnell many years, then in her own apartment in Blanchardville. She later moved to Monroe, then Brodhead and later moved to Lancaster. She worked at Hodan Center at Mineral Point and Greenco Industries in Monroe. Surviving are three sisters Ruth Everson of Stoughton, Maggie Ihus of Monroe and Helen Dickhut of Milwaukee.. and several nieces and nephews.
