James W. Buntrock, Age 60, of Fifield, died Thursday December 17, 1998 at his home in Fifield. He was born on March 1, 1938 in Milwaukee, the son of Raymond and Ruth (Langley) Buntrock. His early life and schooling were in Milwaukee. He was a machinist for Continental Can in Milwaukee for many years. He came to Fifield in 1988 after his retirement.

He is survived by his daughter Carmela (Scott) Heppe of Menomonee Falls, WI, (3)grandchildren, his brother: Raymond (Harriet) Buntrock of Las Vegas, NV, his former wife Florence (Fred) Luehrs of Green Bay, WI, a nephew, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Beverly Grassel.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Norma Ferkovich-Burbey, Age 79, of Park Falls, died peacefully surrounded by her family, on Wednesday October 11, 2000 at her home under the care of Flambeau Home Health and Hospice. She was born on February 12, 1921 in St. Paul, MN, the daughter of George and Bessie (Borgen) Cheesebrow. Her early life and schooling began in Rice Lake and continued in Park Falls. On December 12, 1939 she married Frank Ferkovich in Park Falls. Mr. Ferkovich preceded her in death in 1977. On September 1, 1978 she married Ron Burbey in Park Falls. She was a very special lady who loved crossword puzzles, weekly magazines, malted milks, jewelry, poetry, a big fat ball point pen, long sleeve shirts, shoes, and bird watching.

She is survived by:

Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 14, 2000 at 10:30am from St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Park Falls. Fr. James Jackson will officiate.

Burial will follow at Nola Cemetery in Park Falls .

A visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:30am until the hour of the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to Flambeau Home Health and Hospice.

The Novitzke Funeral Home - Park Falls is handling the arrangements.

Helen Burch, age 84, formerly of Butternut, WI died Wednesday November 29, 2000 at her home in Brooklyn Center, MN. She was born September 11, 1916 in Butternut, WI the daughter of George & Petronella (Smola) Meindl. Her early life and schooling were in Butternut. She then moved to the Minneapolis, MN area where she made a career in Nursing.

She is survived by;

(2) Sisters- Bernice Watland of Park Falls, WI and

Laura Meindl of Forest Lake, MN

Numerous Nieces, Nephews, other Relatives and Friends

She was preceded in death by her parents, (2) Sisters- Clara Busch and Leona Greer,

(4) Brothers- George, Walter, Albert and Herbert Meindl

Graveside services will be held on Friday December 15, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. with Deacon Chet Ball officiating at the Nola Cemetery in Park Falls, WI

Clara A. Meindl-Busch, Age 92, of Park Falls, died Monday April 19, 1999 at Park Manor Nursing Home in Park Falls. She was born on March 23, 1907 in Butternut, WI, the daughter of George and Petronella (Smola) Meindl. Her early life and schooling were in Butternut, she went on to receive a Bachelors Degree in Education from the Superior State University. On June 15, 1960 she married Edward Busch in Ashland. She was a lifetime resident of the Park Falls – Butternut area and taught school for 40 years retiring from the Butternut School system in 1967. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Butternut, the Retired Teachers Association, and was a choir member of both St. Anthony’s and Immaculate Conception Church.
She is survived by:

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edward in 1979, (1)sister: Leona Greer, and (4)brothers: George, Walter, Albert, and Herbert Meindl.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 21, 1999 at 11:00am from St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Park Falls. Fr. Al Ebach will officiate.

Burial will follow at Nola Cemetery in Park Falls.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday April 21, 1999 from 10:00am until the hour of the service at the church.

Arline Calkins, age 75 of Park Falls died Thursday April 12, 2001 at her home in Destin, Fl. She was born October 25, 1925 in East Troy, WI the daughter of Herbert & Dorothy (House) Radmer. Her early life and schooling was in East Troy moving to Milwaukee, WI in 1944. She was a Captain in charge of security at the Allis Chalmers Corp. during WWII. She married Riley Calkins on June 16, 1945 in Kenosha, WI and they moved to The Dalles, OR. She was a Homemaker and a waitress at the Past Time Restaurant. In 1955 the family moved to Waukesha, WI where she worked at various Restaurant's. In 1967 they moved to East Troy and in 1973 to Park Falls. The couple has been wintering in Destin, Fl for the past 11 years. She was a avid bowler and cross word puzzle solver. She also loved music, playing the organ, piano and singing.

She is survived by;

Memorial Services will be held on Friday April 20, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. from the Novitzke Funeral Home Chapel in Park Falls, WI with Rev. Loren Barker officiating.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held at the Novitzke Funeral Home on Friday April 20, 2001 from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service.

John Anderson Camp, age 65, of Park Falls, WI died Saturday July 29, 2000 at the Veterans Hospital in Iron Mountain, MI. He was born December 21, 1934 in Draper, WI the son of Louis and Lillian (Gould) Camp. He attended school in Draper until the family moved to Maynard, AR. He then entered the U.S. Navy serving for 21 years until retiring in 1972. He married Jeanette Stutzman they later divorced and he moved to Park Falls. In 1977 he married Agnes (Hovanecz) Rose. The couple then spent their summers in Park Falls and their winters in Bracketville, TX. He was a member of the DAV, the Loretta-Draper American Legion and the Fleet Reserve.

He is survived by his wife Agnes of Park Falls, WI and Bracketville, TX

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday August 2, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. from the Novitzke Funeral Home Chapel in Park Falls with Rev. Henry Boynton Officiating.

Burial will follow at the Loretta-Draper Cemetery with military rites under the auspices of the Loretta-Draper American Legion Post.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday August 1, 2000 from 4:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Novitzke Funeral Home in Park Falls, WI.

Albert ‘Pudy’ Podolan

Albert “Pudy” F. Podolan, age 84, of 61315 Pike River Road, Mason, passed away Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at his residence.

Pudy was born March 21, 1918, in Delta, the son of Stephen W. and Elizabeth S. (Visocky) Podolan. At the age of 18 he went into the CC camps at Loretta and worked there for two years. In 1942 he went west and worked at Longview, Wash., in a paper mill until hew as called to serve his country in World War II. He was a sergeant in the armored division in Germany. After the war, he sailed the Great Lakes, worked for the forestry service and at DuPont. In 1955 he went to work for the Bayfield County Highway Department. He then went to Alaska and worked in the gold mines. In 1963 he returned to Bayfield County and worked once again with the Bayfield County Highway Department until his retirement in 1978. Pudy was an avid fisherman and loved to fish in the White River. His hobbies included tying flies, playing cards and visiting the local casinos.

Pudy is survived by six sisters: Irene (Glass) Neuman, Theresa (Fritz) Vlasaty and Frances Bednarik all of Delta; Helen Johanik of Moquah; Eleanore (John) Bizub of Mildore; and Catherine Wuennecke of Ashland; one brother, Frank (Janet) of Delta; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Elizabeth Horstman, Ann Fetsco and Agnes (Gazdik) Osmak.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Mountain Funeral Home, Ashland. Military honors under the auspices of the United Chequamegon Area Veterans will immediately follow the service at the funeral home on Saturday.

A private family interment will take place at the Saint Florian Cemetery, Ino, at a later date.

Memorials for a fund to be established are preferred in lieu of flowers.

The Mountain Funeral Home, Ashland and Mellen, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Leona M. Zambori

Leona M. Zambori, 79, of 618 11th Ave. West, passed away Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002 at Memorial Medical Center in Ashland.

Leona was born June 20, 1923 in Moquah, the daughter of Michael J. and Sophie (Romancik) Bozenik. She attended Hillside School of Moquah. On June 2, 1945 she was united in marriage to Joseph E. Zambori in Moquah. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and baking for her grandchildren. She was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Ashland.

Leona is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Joe of Ashland; three sons: John (Peggy) of Mound, Minn., Michael (Tracy Davis) of Warsaw, Mo., and James (Kristine) of Ashland; three daughters: Mary (Tim) Wooley of Mellen, Yvonne Aronson of Ashland and Judy (Bill Burris) Zambori of Grand View; a daughter-in-law, Jewel Zambori; nine grandchildren : Shanda (Eric) Wimberger, Joel Zambori, Christopher and Michelle Aronson, Rachel and Heather Wooley, Jenna Zambori, Melissa Burris and Nicole Zambori; two sisters: Catherine Marx of Waukesha and Mildred (Vince) Hudack of Moquah; two special sisters-in-law: Mary Meyers and Renee Zambori; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son Joseph Michael; brothers Michael and Joseph Bozenik; sisters Josephine Bozenik, Ann Pieterek, Sister M. Hilaris, Mary Munson and Helen Maciejewski.

A Mass of Christine burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Ashland with Father Bill Rooney, O. F. M. as celebrant.

Interment will take place in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Moquah.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a rosary service at 7:30 on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the Mountain Funeral Home, Ashland.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Leona’s name can be made to the Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery fund of Moquah.

The Mountain Funeral Home, Ashland and Mellen, is assisting the family with arrangements.
