Marian E. Hamel 'Peterson'
Marian E. (Peterson) Hamel, 79, Oconto Falls, formerly of GreenBay, died Saturday, April 1, 2000 at St. Vincent Hospoital. She was born August 30, 1920 to C. Gust and Louise (Hodgkins) Peterson in Escanaba, MI. In 1942, Marian graduated with a B.A. from Northern Michigan University. She taught for one year in Onaway, MI. She married Lieutenant Peter C. "Cor" Hamel September 17, 1943 on one week's notice after a two-year separation during World War II. The family moved to her husband's hometown of Marquette, MI in 1946. They then lived in Ontonagan, MI and Goodman, WI before moving to Green Bay in 1958, where her husband was Principal of Preble High School. They moved to Oconto Falls in 1998. Survivors include her husband, Peter; four sons and their families, Maury (Marcia), Edgerton, WI, and their children, Mara, Matthew, Megan and Melanie; Alan (Dawn), Coon Rapids, MN, and their children, Alison and Anne Marie; Mark (Pam), Minneapolis, MN, and their children, Nathan and Gregory; Neil (Robin), Oconto Falls , and their children, Ariel, Rachel, Caleb and David; one daughter and her family, Judy (Kent) Demien, Wausau, and their children, Kent Jr., Mark, Rebecca, Elizabeth and Bethany. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Jean Brayak and Dorothy "Dotsy" Berg. Family and friends called at First United Presbyterian Church, 605 N. Webster Ave., De Pere. Funeral service was 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Ted Tromble officiating. Entombment in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. Cotter Funeral Home, De Pere, assisted the family with arrangements. A Memorial fund has been established in Marian's name.

William 'Bill' M. Cain
William "Bill" M. Cain, 69, a well known Oconto businessman died unexpectedly March 30, 2000 at Bellin Hospital, Green Bay. He was born to the late Milton and Eva (Bitters) Cain April 8, 1930 in Oconto. He graduated from Oconto High School. He married the former Donna Koch September 17, 1952 in Oconto. The couple lived in the Oconto and GreenBay area all of their lives. Bill was involved in real estate investing for many years and was also a painting contractor for over 35 years. He owned and operated Oconto Furniture and Warehousing for several years and was a Miller Beer distributor and also had a coin vending machine business in the Oconto area. Bill is survived by his wife, Donna; three sons, James (Sandy) Cain, Oconto; Dennis Cain, Florida; Randy Cain, Indiana ; one grandson, Travis (Suzie) Cain, Oconto; and one great-granddaughter, Briana. Also survived by his faithful dog "Pepper." He was preceded in death by one son, Richard, and one sister, Helen. Friends called at the Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home, Oconto, Sunday April 2, 2000 from 12 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3 p.m. with Deacon Walt Kaszynski officiating. Interment at Oconto Catholic Cemetery.

Lester Willard McAllan
Lester Willard McAllan, 81, Mountain, formerly Milwaukee, died March 29, 2000 in the Wisconsin Veterans Home, King, Wisconsin. He was born in Wabeno June 2, 1918 to the late John and Lillian (Waldo) McAllan. Lester served his country during WWII in the Army. He married Effie Tedrow October 19, 1946. The couple lived in Milwaukee where Les was employed as a mechanic for Barrie Transfer. After 35 years of work they retired to Mountain in 1988. Les was a Masonic Member and belonged to the Mountain V.F.W. He was preceded in death by his wife Effie on February 23, 1993.. Survivors include his two daughters, Charlene (Tracy) Roloff of Waterford, MI, Annette (Joseph) Bear of Sanger, TX; his brother, John (Dorothy) McAllan of San Antonio, TX; two sisters, Alice (Bernard) Bowman and Cecelia Bartz both of Mountain; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Katie, Sabrina, and Austin. Visitation was held at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring on Friday March 31, 2000 from 7-9 p.m. Visitation continued on Saturday at 10 a.m. until funeral services 11 a.m. at the Funeral Home with Pastor Jim DeWar officiating. Burial in Mountain Cemetery. Military Funeral Honors by the Mountain VFW.

Donald E. Bruns
Donald Edward Bruns, 79, of Townsend, WI, formerly of Kenosha, died at his home on March 24, 2000 with his family at his side. He was born in Kenosha on February 4, 1921 to John and Beatrice (DeHaven) Bruns. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Army in which he served during WWII he married Dorothy Schroeder on August 11, 1945 at St. George Church in Kenosha. He worked for Ladish Tri-Clover until his retirement in 1982 at which time he moved to Townsend, WI. While living in Kenosha he was a member of the Eagles Club, a life member of the VFW and the Cooties and a member of St. George Church. After moving to Townsend he joined VFW ost 10914 of Lakewood, AARP and St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church, Lakewood. In his retirement he enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing and woodworking. He is survived by his widow, Dorothy; three daughters, Sheryl (Frank) Dennis, New Smyrna Beach, FL, Darlene (Marty) Swed, Townsend, WI, Tina (Russell) Borst, Kenosha, WI; one son, Gerald Bruns, Kenosha; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Chester Bruns; four sisters, Beatrice Mattson, Anise Walters, Elizabeth Peterson, and Florence Colby. Visitation was on Sunday, March 26 at St. Mary of the Lakes Church, Lakewood. Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday 11 a.m. at the Church, with Fr. Gerald Schmidt officiating. Visitation was also held on Tuesday at the Piasecki Funeral Home, Kenosha. Graveside service was on Wednesday at St. George Cemetery, Kenosha. The Suminski Funeral Home, Wabeno and the Piasecki Funeral Home, Kenosha served the family. Memorials appreciated to the LeRoyer Hospice, 112 E. 5th Ave., Antigo, WI 54409.

Joseph C. Guiliani
Joseph C. Giuliani, 71, of Appleton, formerly of Mountain, died Monday March 27, 2000. He was born in Wauceda, MI on September 15, 1928 to the late Joseph and Helen (Woyatzka) Giuliani. On October 2, 1990 he married Joan Fischer Laes. Joseph worked for NICOR Gas Company in Illinois for 35 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Appleton. Joe was a very good golfer and bowler and a loyal Packer fan. He loved the outdoors, biking and hunting and especially his yearly fishing trip to Canada with his friends, Clarence Stroh and Tony Gajdostek. He will be sadly miss by his wife, Joan Fischer Laes Giuliani; children, Carol (Aaron) Theselius of Saukeville, WI; David (Lynn) Giuliani of Park Forest, IL; grandson, Steven James Giuliani and stepgrandson, John Maxedon; special family members: Pamela (Gay) Meyer of Indiana polis, IN; Patric (Jana) Laes and their sons, Christopher and Michael of Green Bay; sisters, Helen (Norris) Hanson of Yuma, AZ, and Theresa (William) Grizer of McHenry, IL: brothers-in-law, Jack (Carol) Fischer, William (Janet) Fischer, Michael Fischer all of Appleton; Raymond (Carol) Fischer of Cary, NC ; Charles Fisher of Los Angeles, CA; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Jack of Appleton, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Lydia Kitterman. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, March 29, 2000 at 1 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 312 S. State Street, with Father Michael O'Rourke officiating. Visitation was from 11:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Memorials are appreciated to Cancer Research. Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St., Appleton served the family.

Eric Andrew Henkel
Eric Andrew Henkel, 82, of Blackwell, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at the Nu-Roc Nursing Home in Blackwell where he had been a resident for the last four years. Eric was born in Blackwell on October 11, 1917, the son of August and Emily (Monte) Henkel. He was a lifelong resident of Blackwell, and spent his life farming and serving his town. He was the Town Treasurer from 1945 to 1974, and served as Assessor in 1975. Eric also belonged to many civic and church groups, such as serving on the FHA Board. On September 30, 1939, he married Helen McKinney at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wabeno. She preceded him in death on May 22, 1987. Throughout life, Eric enjoyed bowling, dancing, snowmobiling, and his trips to Florida. He was also proud of his family, and would often go to his son, Ron's, house to visit, and telling his son and daughter-in-law that he was just there to visit with their cat and dog. He also enjoyed the days when the family and the dog would come down to visit him at the nursing home. Eric is survived by his children: Carole (Ron) Braun of Bryant, WI and Ronald (Jenny) Henkel of Blackwell, WI; five grandchildren, Debora Socia of Milwaukee, WI, Robert Braun of Milwaukee, Erick (Peggy) Henkel of Laona, WI; Samantha (Mike) Johnvin of Blackwell; Niall Henkel of Laona; six great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret (Clarence) Rogge; his parents; an infant brother, Roger; a grandson, Alan Braun; and his wife, Helen. Honoring Eric as pallbearers were his five grandchildren and a great-grandchild, Rian Socia. Friends called at the Suminski Funeral Home in Wabeno where Pastor Craig Korth led a short prayer service. Funeral service was held Saturday, April 1, 2000, 1 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wabeno. Interment followed at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Wabeno. Suminski Funeral Home of Wabeno served the family.

Richard 'Dick' L. Vander Geeten
Richard (Dick) L. Vander Geeten, 69, Green Bay, died Monday, March 21, 2000 in a Yuma, Ariz. hospital. He was born January 15, 1931, in Green Bay to the late Ray and Mae (Kononski) Vander Geeten. On June 25, 1955 he married Darlene Roepcke in Green Bay. Richard had been employed as an engineer for the Green Bay Board of Education at West High School, retiring in 1992. In 1994, he retired from the grounds crew of the Green Bay Packers. He loved hunting, camping, fishing, and winters in Yuma. He also enjoyed traveling with the coachmen club and caravan, watching the Packers, working at the Bobcat games, coaching youth games and bartending for many years. He is survived by his wife, Darlene; one son, Mike (Renee) Vander Geeten, Green Bay; one daughter, Sally (Tod) Sanborn, Eagle River; three grandchildren, Joel and Danielle Vander Geeten and David Sanborn; one brother-in-law, Bob Maricque and one sister-in-law, Lois Vander Geeten; several nieces and nephews and many close friends. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Vander Geeten and one sister, Betty Maricque. Friends may call Sunday, April 2, 2000, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Lyndahl Funeral Home, Lombardi Avenue and Ridge Rd. where the funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Earl Vorpagel III officiating. Entombment will be in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.

Robert 'Bob' Van Frachem
Robert “Bob” Van Frachem, 83, formerly of De Pere, passed away Wednesday March 28, 2000 at a local nursing home. The son of the late William and Ella (Pfeifer) Van Frachem was born January 16, 1917 in Green Bay. Bob was a graduate of East High School. He married Dorothy Moes in 1940. Bob played on WBAY radio for two years. He ended his tenure in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant at Ft. Sill Oklahoma for four years. Bob also played in the Army orchestra. He worked at the Allouez Water Department for 33 years leaving there as a Superintendent. Bob then went on to get an Engineering degree from the University of Wisconsin. He worked as an engineer for twelve years at McMahon engineering in Menasha until his retirement. After retirement, Bob started a band and taught guitar lessons. He was an avid gardener and was known for his beautiful flower gardens. Bob enjoyed woodworking, writing poetry, and especially his dogs. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Dorothy; a sister, Mrs. Melferd (Gladys) Mathys; nieces, Mrs. Alan (Mary Lou) Edwards, Donna Mae Pfleger, Mrs. Robert (Suzie) Damoto, Kathy Pahl; nephews, Tom Mathys. Tim Mathys, Mike Mathys. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law, Melferd Mathys. Family and friends may call at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N Webster Ave. De Pere, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday. Funeral service 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Schmeling officiating. Inurnment will take place at the Cemetery of the Holy Sepulchre of St. John the Baptist Parish in the town of Howard.
A memorial fund has been established in Bob’s name for the Osteoporosis Foundation and the Humane Society. The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Pinn; to all of the family and friends who were there for Bob; and to the staff at Odd Fellow Home.
