Kenneth E Juedes
Ken was born on March 20th 1948 to Edwin and Margaret (Sahr) Juedes and lived in the Rothschild area until graduating from D.C Everest High School. He went on to UW Madison, WI and earned a degree in pharmacology in 1972. Ken then began his career as a pharmacist which he has continued until the present.
In the mid seventies he purchased Dill Creek Farm and has lived there for the past 30 years. Dill Creek sparked a life long passion with the land. Ken planted hundreds of trees and Dill Creek became a certified tree farm.
Ken also had four Belgian horses and was a charter member of the Belgian Draft Horse Corporation of America. He loved to entertain the crowds at the local fairs and parades. Ken was also active in Ducks Unlimited and was a two time president of the Colby Lions Club and participated in their parade yearly.
In spring Ken made maple syrup and started his garden. He grew some of the best peas and tomatoes around. In the fall he cut his winter’s wood.
Photography was also something Ken enjoyed. He won first place honor for one of his pictures titled “Roads End” which was displayed for many years at the Marshfield Clinic and is now proudly displayed in his home. Ken enjoyed many kinds of music with John Prine blasting from his Ford truck during the deer gun season.
Ken was involved with the car/motorcycle racing sport. Each year his Harley was loaded into the trailer and Ken made his pilgrimage to Elkhart Lake for the cycle show. Trips with his wife Cindy to Ashland and Bayfield to visit long time friends Dana and Cathy were looked forward to and Ken counted down the hours until the next vacation could begin.
Ken was talented in so many areas, from cooking and baking cherry pies which included exchanging recipes with his stepdaughter Sarah to building and welding.
Holidays were special with Ken and Christmas was his favorite. You’d swear Clark Grizwald from the movie “Christmas Vacation” had entered his body. Ken wasn’t satisfied until he found the 18-ft. tree for the living room.
Ken is survived by his parents Edwin and Margaret Juedes and although Ken has not seen his birth children for more than a year, they were precious to him in his heart. Ken will always be loved and sadly missed by his loving wife Cindy and daughters Jennifer, Sarah and Rebecca, mother-in-law Vernetta and loads of family and friends.
A special thank you to Patrick and Anita O’Hearn for caring and helping in this very difficult time. Ken will be greatly missed by Ducky and Mrs. FinkIestein who is grieved to never be able to call and speak to him about her medicines.
A memorial celebration in honor of Ken’s life will be held Saturday, September 16th 2006 at 2 p.m. in Colby at the Lions Shelter. Please join us and bring your favorite Ken memory.
