Bessie Kropp
1921-2008
Bessie N. Kropp, 87, Schofield, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Allison House in Rothschild.
She was born May 18, 1921 in Goodrich, daughter of the late James and Magdalena (Kohout) Smola. On October 8, 1938 she married Lawrence Kropp at Trinity Lutheran Church in Athens. This marriage was blessed with four children and they shared sixty wonderful years together farming and raising their family. He preceded her in death on September 16, 1999.
Bessie was an avid gardener and loved to cook and bake for family and friends. She enjoyed many visitors including her many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. Bessie's greatest joy was in raising her family and her most treasured moments were those spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will forever be remembered for her sense of humor, her patience and the work ethic she instilled in those around her. She was dearly loved by her entire family and will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her daughters, Jeannine (Jim) Roiger of Weston and Carole (Dennis) Koch of Kronenwetter; sons, Rodney (Mary Ann) Kropp of Goodrich and Lawrence (Kay) Kropp of Ringle; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; sisters, Josephine (Clarence) Kropp of Highland Park, Ill. and Emily Fink of Athens; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lawrence, she was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Edward Smola; and two sisters, Ann Ost and Barbara Kemp.
The funeral service was held Monday, July 7 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Goodrich, with Pastor Carl Busse officiating. Burial was at Athens Cemetery in Athens.
Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home of Athens assisted the family with arrangements.
The family would like to thank the loving staff of Allison House for their wonderful care given and also to nurse Ana of hospice for her dedicated care to our mother and support for our family during her last days. They would also like to thank Pastor Busse for all his prayers and support during this difficult time.

Sean Ried
(1990-2008)
Sean Michael Ried, 17, Colby, died Tuesday, July 8 following a drowning at Sackett Lake. Funeral services are Saturday, July 12 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Medford with Pastor Brian Wipf officiating.
The visitation is Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford and Saturday at the church beginning at 1 p.m. Pallbearers are Stephen, Mark and Russell Ried, Josh Strebe, Nathan Jensen, Nick Sanders and Seth Amundson.
Sean Ried was born October 15, 1990 at Marshfield to Roger and Martha Ried, who survive. He attended Colby elementary schools and was about to enter his senior year at Colby High School. While not in school, he worked preciously at Roger’s Silos in Unity. Presently he was an employee at McDonald’s in Abbotsford. He enjoyed assisting his elderly neighbors in Colby. He loved skateboarding, hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He was a member of the Chess Club of Colby High School.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his maternal grandparents, Eugene and Mernajean Strathman of Abbotsford; three brothers, Stephen Ried of Quad Cities, Iowa, Mark Ried and special friend Nina Doberstein of Medford, and twin brother Russell Ried of Colby; special friend, Shari Orth of Abbotsford; two nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by twin brothers, Roger and Robert Ried in 1976, and paternal grandparents, Arthur and Carrie Ried.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the family for future designation.

Audrey Querin
(1937-2008)
Audrey M. Querin, 71, Montpelier, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 2 at her home. Funeral services were Tuesday, July 8 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Davenport. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery in Davenport. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangments.

B. Carol Tollin
(1920-2008)
B. Carol Tollin, 88, Medford, passed away Monday, July 7 at the Memorial Nursing & Rehab Center in Medford under the care of Hope Hospice and Palliative Care. Funeral Services will be Friday, July 11 at 1 p.m. at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. The Rev. Kenneth A. Dix will officiate. Burial will follow in Christ Lutheran Cemetery in the town of Holton, Marathon County. Visitation begins at 11 a.m.
B. Carol Tollin was born February 28, 1920 to the late Jesse and Rose (Peacock) Hall in Belvidere, Ill. She attended grade school in Poplar Grove, Ill. and later graduated from Belvidere High School. Following high school, Carol worked for the Greenlee Corp. in Illinois. She married Carl Tollin on Sept. 2, 1945 in Calendonia, Ill. Carol and Carl moved to Abbotsford in 1967 and later they began farming in the town of Mayville from 1971 until they both retired from farming in 1976. Her husband Carl passed away July 26, 1990. Carol was a member of the Homemakers Club in the town of Mayville and a past member of VASA and Brahe Lodge’s in Ill. In her spare time she loved to embroider and crochet.
She is lovingly survived by her two sons, David (Charlotte) Tollin of Roscoe, Illinois and Bruce Tollin of Medford. Carol is further survived by her grandchildren, Jennifer (Rick) Kuikman of Chicago, Ill., Patricia (Richard) Myers of Rockford, Ill., Melissa (Thomas Schoenfuss) Tollin of Colby and Kristy (Adam Strey) Tollin of Loyal and her great grandchildren: Kaila and Cody Kuelz, Matthew, Wendy, Kimberly and Andrew Kuikman, Evan Myers, Maeghan, Carol and Brandon Weiler, Kirsten Schoenfuss, Tyler Geiger, Alex Best, Hayden Kops, and Ava and Emma Strey. Also survived by many other relatives and friends.

Richard Van Laarhoven
(1948-2008)
Richard A. Van Laarhoven, 60, Key Largo, Fla., died Sunday, May 25 at his home. A memorial service was held at Theresa Church in Spring Hills, Fla.

Gerald DeStaercke
Gerald H. “Jerry” DeStaercke, age 71 of 255 West Riverside Drive, Gilman, WI passed away on Monday, July 7, 2008 at Memorial Health Care Hospital, Medford, WI. Services will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at the Zion Lutheran Church, Gilman, WI with Pastor Steven Haag officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadowbrook Cemetery, Gilman, WI. Friends and family may call on Wednesday evening from 4-8 at the Gilman Funeral Chapel and 1 hour prior to service time at the church on Thursday morning. Plombon Funeral Service of Gilman, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.

Darlene Albers
1933-2008
Darlene L. Albers, 75, Medford, died Tuesday, July 1 at her home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 3 at 3 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger and Deacon Joe Stefancin officiating. Interment of her cremated remains will take place at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Kelly, Jeff, Michael and Megan Mancl, Jessie and Adam Bohn and Jeremy and Jason Albers.
Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 2 p.m. until the time of the service.
Hemer Funeral Service of Medford assisted the family with arrangements.

Anne Bieno
1931-2008
Anne Magdalena Bieno, 77, Thorp, died Saturday, June 28 at Wissota Health in Chippewa Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, July 2 at St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church in Lublin, with Father Marion Talaga officiating. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Thorp Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Harold Koester
1934-2008
Harold "HJ" E. Koester, 74, Medford, died Monday, June 30 at Memorial Health Center in Medford. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 3 at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with his son, Patrick Koester, officiating. Interment of his cremated remains will take place at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II at a later date. Pallbearers will be George Jessick, Marty Heier, Gary Waldhart, Les Hirt, Wally Ertl and Kenny Weidenfeld.
Hemer Funeral Service of Medford assisted the family with arrangements.

Muriel Monson
1926-2008
Muriel May Monson, 82, Medford, died Monday, June 20 at Memorial Health Nursing Home in Medford under the care of Hope Hospice, after a nine year battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 3 at 11 a.m. at Northwoods Vineyard Church in Tomahawk, with Monte Smith and Pastor Grant Brown officiating. Interment will be Oak Hill Cemetery in Skanawan. Active pallbearers will be Merlin Monson, Gene Rizzi, Mark Ruesch, Andy Roberts, Pastor Alex Lindsay and Ron Wittrock. Honorary pallbearer will be Chase Stahnke.

Violet Roinila
1926-2008
Violet Marion Roinila, 82, Medford, died Friday, June 27 at Memorial Health Center. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 5 at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Ogema, with Rev. Bob Giese officiating. Interment will be at Leavitt Creek Cemetery.

Donald Vircks
1929-2008
Donald F. Vircks, 79, Lander, Wyo., died Thursday, June 26. A memorial service will be held Monday, July 7 at 1 p.m. at Hudson's Funeral Home, Chapel of Mount Hope in Lander, with Pastor Tim Sersen officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lander.

Elizabeth Wilson
Elizabeth Wilson, 81, Wausau, died Wednesday, June 25 at Wausau Manor Nursing Home. A funeral mass was held Monday, June 30 at the Church of the Resurrection in Wausau, with Rev. William Grevatch officiating. Burial was at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Wausau.
Brainard Funeral Home of Wausau assisted the family with arrangements.

Eunice Pagel
1914-2008
Eunice M. Pagel, 93, Plover, died Saturday, June 21 of a rare degenerative neurological disease, at Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids. In recent years, Eunice lived with and was lovingly cared for by her daughter, Margaret.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 28 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Whittlesey, with Rev. Randal Jeppesen officiating. Her grandchildren will be the pallbearers.
