Mable Selk
1920-2008
Mable P. Selk, 88, Medford, died Wednesday, Aug. 13 at Memorial Nursing Home where she had resided the past five years. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, Aug. 16, at Sacred Heart Church, with Rev. Peter Manickam officiating. Burial was at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Chili.
Rembs Funeral Home of Marshfield assisted the family with arrangements.
The former Mable Verhagen was born May 4, 1920 in Chili to the late Adrian and Christina (Joosten) Verhagen. She attended Chili and Little Chute schools.
On April 4, 1940 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Chili, she married Alvord H. Selk, who preceded her in death on September 11, 1967. After her husband's death, she moved to Ridgeway, Pa., with her son and his family, where she was a psychiatric technician at the Ridgeway Hospital. She returned to Wisconsin in 1972 and again worked as a psychiatric technician at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield until her retirement in 1985. After retirement she traveled twice to Europe, Hawaii and Alaska and once to Central America.
She enjoyed knitting, reading and going to the casino.
Survivors include a son, Alvord (Billie Lee) Selk Jr. of Medford; and three great-grandchildren, Kristin Friedenfels of Crystal, Minn., and Nicole Graf and Samantha Graf, both of Medford.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Angela (Richard) Friedenfels and Stephanie (Patrick) Graf, both of Medford; five brothers, Edward, Joseph, Paul, Louis and Howard; and six sisters, Ella, Harriet, Marie, Louise, Bertha and Francis.

Allen Smedegard Sr.
1927-2008
Allen J. Smedegard Sr., 80, died Saturday, July 26. Burial was at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill., with military honors, including a 21 gun salute from U.S. veterans.
Allen Smedegard was born August 6, 1927 in Medford to the late Arthur and Elizabeth Smedegard.
On June 18, 1949 in Rib Lake, he married Nellie Bucki, who preceded him in death on January 11, 2007. He served in the United States Navy overseas for four years.
Survivors include his children, Nancy, Susan and Allen Jr.; and a brother, Leon.

Edna Welte
1926-2008
Edna V. Welte, 82, Sheldon, died Monday, Aug. 18 at her home. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 20 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheldon, with Pastor Steven Haag officiating. Burial was at Mount Nebo Cemetery in Jump River.
Plombon Funeral Service of Gilman assisted the family with arrangements.
The former Edna Monson was born February 19, 1926 in the Town of McKinley to the late Emil and Ellen (Brodeen) Monson. She grew up in the area and attended area rural schools. She became a teacher and taught for many years.
On November 23, 1967 in Marshfield, she married Stuart Welte, who preceded her in death in August 2008. They resided in the Town of McKinley where she resumed teaching until her retirement.
She enjoyed gardening, her cats, teaching and was very generous to various organizations such as Boystown, North Shore Animal League, American Foundation, Amnesty International and OXFAM.

Joyce Wicke
1928-2008
Joyce L. Wicke, 80, Hannibal, died Saturday, Aug. 16 at her home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 19 at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Hannibal, with Pastor Grant Brown officiating. Burial was at Mount Nebo Cemetery in Jump River.
Plombon Funeral Service of Gilman assisted the family with arrangements.
The former Joyce Bosteder was born April 18, 1928 in Jump River to the late William and Nancy (Warner) Bosteder. She grew up in the Jump River area and attended area schools.
On November 8, 1946 she married Norman Wicke, who survives. They lived in Medford five years before moving to Hannibal where they resided and raised their seven children. She had worked at Presto Industries and Drangle Foods, but most of her time was spent raising her family.
She enjoyed her flowers, doing crafts, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, the outdoors and life.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her children, Donna (David) Sotak of Ladysmith, Ronald (Diane) Wicke of Jump River, Robert Wicke and Debra James, both of Hannibal, John Wicke of Princeton, Minn. and Lori (William) Stine of Bruce; three sisters, Geraldine (Walter) Kleppetsch, Jean (John) Holmberg and Marge (Ray) Buchanan; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy; four sisters, Bertha Caroll, Ida Piekarz, Darlene Wickersham and Barbara Debold; five half sisters, Edith Warner, Elizabeth Saunders, Maude Ollia, Lucinda Gilman and Phoebe Carlson; and six half brothers, Albert, Theodore, Raymond and Fred Bosteder and Vernon and Leslie Foster.

Patrick Winnie
1955-2008
Patrick D. Winnie, 52, Weston, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, as the result of a drowning accident.
Patrick Winnie was born October 10, 1955 in Wausau to the late Edwin and Dorothy (Deiler) Winnie.
He was the owner/operator of Winnie Distributing, a distributor of Little Debbie products, which earned him many achievement awards, including Distributor of the Year many times and Salesman of the Year.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, biking, gardening and hobby farming. Pat was known for his volunteerism with Everest Area Little League, coaching all of his sons' teams, and D.C. Everest Wrestling Club. Pat never missed an Everest football game or wrestling match that his sons participated in. He was also very involved with his church events. He will always be remembered as a compassionate person, which allowed him to be active in Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and helping those in need.
Survivors include his sons, Patrick (Christina) Winnie of Wausau, Matthew (Sarah) Winnie of Rib Lake, and Nicholas (Kaycee Weinke) Winnie of San Antonio, Texas; granddaughters, Emily Jo, Emma, Josefa and an additional grandchild expected next February; his "Little Brother" Cody Hoelscher; the mother of his children, Mary Jo Winnie of Wausau; his brothers, Daniel (Sherri) Winnie of Ringle, and Larry (June) Winnie of Mosinee; his sisters, Connie (Tony) Noskowiak of Schofield, Shirl (James) Roberson of St. Charles, Mo., Rita Weideman of Rothschild, and Diane (Bruce) Stroik of Rothschild. He is also survived by an uncle, Albert Deiler; and many nieces and nephews.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents, and a niece, Andrea Winnie.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Aug. 17 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Weston, with Rev. Brad Hubbard and Rev. Lance Hoelscher officiating.
Brainard Funeral Home of Weston assisted the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in Pat's memory.

Lawrence Boxrucker
1917-1941
Lawrence A. Boxrucker, formerly of Dorchester, died December 7, 1941 in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. His repatriated remains will finally be laid to rest on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Dorchester Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Benjamin Franklin will conduct the committal services at the cemetery on Saturday.
Lawrence was born November 10, 1917 in the Town of Little Black in Taylor County to John and Mary (Pueschner) Boxrucker. He attended Liberty country school in the town of Little Black until the eighth grade. After that, Lawrence worked at various farms in the area. Later he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps at Jump River and Rhinelander. Lawrence and his twin brother, Louis, headed west to Oregon in order to find work. No work was to be found, so they traveled to San Francisco, Calif., where Lawrence and his brother joined the Navy in 1940. Lawrence and his brother were assigned to different positions in the Navy. Lawrence was stationed on the USS Oklahoma as a Fireman 2nd Class. The USS Oklahoma was part of the United States Pacific Fleet based at Pearl Harbor on the island of Oahu, Territory of Hawaii. On December 7, 1941 a fleet of Japanese carriers launched an air strike against the Pacific Fleet. Lawrence, along with 428 other sailors on board the USS Oklahoma, died that day.
Lawrence is survived by two brothers, Louis (Hilda) Boxrucker of Dorchester and Arthur (Celine) Boxrucker of Prairie du Chien. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Lawrence's parents and his sister Helen Langteau are deceased.
Local veterans organizations wishing to attend the committal services at Dorchester Memorial Cemetery and pay their respects to their fallen comrade should contact Ken Patterson of the Boxrucker-Berry American Legion Post. No. 519 of Stetsonville for further information.

Anna Grajek
1911-2008
Anna Grajek, 97, Lublin, died Friday, Aug. 29 at Our Lady Victory Hospital in Stanley. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 3 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin, with Father John Long officiating. Burial was at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery.
Thorp Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
The former Anna Kwiatkowski was born June 6, 1911 in Springfield, Ill. to the late Martin and Hedwig (Kaczmarek) Kwiatkowski. As a young girl she moved to the Lublin area where she attended Clark School near Withee. Following her education she lived and worked in Chicago, Ill. at a candy factory.
On September 21, 1930 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin, she married Anton Grajek, who preceded her in death on July 3, 1988. They farmed in the Lublin area, retiring in the late 1960s.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society, and served as secretary and treasurer for many years. She also cooked for weddings and funerals. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers and trips out west.
Survivors include her children, Leonard of West Allis, Richard (Rosemarie) of Manitowoc and Carol Pawlicki of Thorp; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Rose Wellner, Joanne Pfeiffer and Sophie Kacher; and a grandson, Douglas Pawlicki on January 7, 1990.

Mary Neder
1943-2008
Mary E. Neder, 65, Waukesha, died Friday, Aug. 29 at Muskego Health Care Center. A funeral mass was held Wednesday, Sept. 3 at St. William Catholic Church in Waukesha. Private entombment took place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Waukesha.
Cesarz, Charapata and Zinnecker Funeral Home of Waukesha assisted the family with arrangements.
The former Mary Gier was born March 14, 1943 in Milwaukee to the late Johan and Cecilia (Peters) Gier.
On August 3, 1963 she married David Neder, of Medford, who survives. She worked at the Boston Store in children's clothing.
She was a member of St. William Catholic Church and Christian Mothers, and was active with Brownie and Girl Scout troops.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her children, Karen Neder of Madison, Ann (Philip) Schmidt of Marshall, Patricia Neder of Atlanta, Ga., Josephine (Andy) Korchmaros of Tucson, Ariz., Martha (Keith) Miller of San Luis Obispo, Calif., Edward Neder of Waukesha and Matthew (Patty) Neder of Watertown; brothers, Karl Gier of Waukesha, Rita (Jim) Good of Euclid, Ohio, Fred Gier of Eagle and John (Margie) Gier of Dousman; mother-in-law and godmother, Cathrine (Neder) Brown of Croften, Md.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ron Neder of Modesto, Calif., Chuck Neder of San Jose, Calif., Mary (Lindsey) Ervin of Davidsonville, Md., and Paul (Karen) Neder of Rock Island, Ill.; seven grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Christopher.
Memorials in her name may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association of Milwaukee.
