Hester Persson
1917-2008
Hester Persson, 91, died Sunday, Nov. 9 at Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center in Medford, where she had been staying while recovering from a stroke.
Hester Parker was born July 5, 1917 in Fitchburg, Mass., to Ruth and Sherman Parker. She attended local schools and on August 29, 1938 was married to K. Alvar Persson, also of Fitchburg. He later attended divinity school and became a Lutheran minister. They served in parishes in Vermont, New York, Rhode Island, Minnesota and Connecticut. After retirement they lived in Minnesota, North Carolina and finally Wisconsin.
Hester was a member of the National Association of Tole and Decorative Painters, and her work was used commercially on many items including calendars, posters and greeting cards. Among those who knew her, she is best remembered for her friendly and outgoing personality. Her positive outlook and optimism were a source of inspiration to everyone she met.
She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her husband of 70 years, Alvar; one son, David (Janet) of Southampton, N.Y.; daughter Betsy Holmquist of Grove City, Minn., daughter Diane of Greensboro, N.C., and daughter Carolyn (Tony) Kleifgen of Medford; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Helen Roesler
1918-2008
Helen Anna Roesler, 90, formerly of Merrill, died Tuesday, Nov. 11 at Kennedy Park in Wausau. Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 14 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill, with Rev. Brian Stolarczyk officiating. Burial will be at Athens Cemetery in Athens.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 13 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Waid Funeral Home of Merrill, and at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Emil Steen
1950-2008
Emil Charles Steen, 58, Town of Greenwood, died Sunday, Nov. 9 at his residence under the care of Hope Hospice and Palliative Care. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 12 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Town of Greenwood, with Rev. Carl Busse officiating. Interment was at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in the Town of Greenwood. Pallbearers were Mike Filas, Paul Skibbie, Mark Engel, Russ Noland, John Quednow, Gary Glenzer, James Rauen and Zachary Noland.
Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.
Emil Steen was born January 6, 1950 in Medford to the late Martin and Caroline (Glenzer) Steen. He attended Greenwood Elementary School and was a 1968 graduate of Rib Lake High School. For 25 years he owned and operated a dairy farm in the Town of Greenwood and was employed with Black River Industries for the past eight years.
He was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, and past member of the Interwald Wanderers Snowmobile Club. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include three sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy (Frank) Skibbie of Rib Lake, Joan (Mike) Backes of Hartland and Rosella (Frank) Filas of Medford; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be given to St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Ruby Usack
1921-2008
Ruby Usack, 87, Hannibal, died Friday, Nov. 7 at Memorial Nursing Home in Medford. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 11 at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Hannibal, with Rev. Cathy Hinman officiating. Burial was at Hannibal Cemetery.
Gilman Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
The former Ruby Miller was born August 23, 1921 in Prairie Farm to the late Herman "Dutch" and Sarah (Meyers) Miller. She moved to the Hannibal area as a young girl and graduated from Hannibal High School in 1939.
She married Donald Hosley, who preceded her in death in December 1943. She was then united in marriage on October 3, 1946 in Arkdale to Robert Usack, who preceded her in death on October 31, 2004. They lived and farmed in the Hannibal area for many years. She later worked as a nurse's aide at Memorial Hospital of Taylor County until her retirement in 1984.
She was a member of Hannibal Homemaker Club. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and enjoyed raising her vegetable and flower gardens.
Survivors include her two children, Larry (Love Lea) Usack of Bonduel and Sharon Pound of Medford; a brother, Kenneth (Elaine) of Barron; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Laurie Retterath; a son-in-law, Arthur Pound; a stepsister, Ethel Clark; and two stepbrothers, Clifford and Earl York.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be used for individuals pursuing a career in the nursing profession.

Kevin Stelzig
1962-2008
Kevin L. Stelzig, 45, Eau Claire, died Wednesday, Oct. 29 at Albany Medical Center in Albany, N.Y., due to complications from a sudden heart attack. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, with Pastor Randy Olson officiating. A private burial at Lakeview Cemetery will be held at a later date.
Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Audrey Wright
1926-2008
Audrey I. Wright, 82, Jump River, died Monday, Nov. 3 under the care of Hope Hospice, surrounded by her family. A memorial service was held Thursday, Nov. 6 at Jump River Community Church, with Rev. Craig Lindgren officiating.
Gilman Funeral Service assisted the family with arrangements.
The former Audrey Rose was born August 20, 1926 to the late Frank and Violet (Storm) Rose. She grew up in Jump River and attended area schools.
On May 2, 1946 in Stanley, she married George Wright, who preceded her in death.
She enjoyed going to the casino with her sisters, her Birthday Club and spending time with her great-grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Rodger (Doreen) and Michael (Debbie), both of Jump River and Rocky (Deb) of Lakeville, Minn.; two sisters, Shirley Liaziuk of Ladysmith and Dotty (Richard) Foster of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Foster; and three brothers, Arthur, Glenn and Donald.

Jeanette Blomberg
1919-2008
Jeanette Marie Blomberg, 89, Ogema, died Wednesday, Oct. 22 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 27 at Ogema Baptist Church, with Pastor David Root officiating. Interment was at Garden of Memories Cemetery in the Town of Hill.
Heindl Funeral Home of Prentice assisted the family with arrangements.

Catherine Brown
1910-2008
Catherine A. Brown, 98, Crofton, Md., died Friday, Sept. 5 at Sacred Heart Home in Hyattsville, Md., of natural causes. A memorial service will be held in Waukesha at a later date.
The former Catherine Gengler was born February 7, 1910 in Medford to the late Anton and Kate (Bodewin) Gengler. She was the oldest of seven children. In 1928 she worked as a domestic in Milwaukee. She returned to Medford and in 1935 married Joseph "Joe" Neder, who preceded her in death. In 1954, she moved with four of her children to Mooseheart, Ill., where she lived and worked for nine years until her marriage to Martin Brown, who preceded her in death, in 1963. She lived in West Chicago, Ill., until 1988 then moved to Crofton to be near her children and grandchildren.
She enjoyed spoiling grandchildren, playing cards, traveling and visiting with family and friends, and was active in a prayer group at her church. She admired Mother Teresa of Calcutta and read about her life and missionary work.
Survivors include her children, David of Wisconsin, Ronald and Charles of California, Mary (Lindsay) Ervin of Maryland and Paul (Karen) of Illinois; a brother Eugene of Wisconsin; a sister, Isabel Sigmund of Wisconsin; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Theresa Zeman and Dolores Sigmund; two brothers, Anthony and Matthew; a grandson, Christopher Neder; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Neder.

Arthur Kapitz Jr.
1947-2008
Arthur "Jake" J. Kapitz Jr., 61, Medford, died Wednesday, Oct. 29 at his residence in the Town of Hammel. Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Medford, with Rev. John Melke officiating. Interment will be at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II with full military honors performed by Medford Military Honors Team. Pallbearers will be his nieces and nephews, Brendon Kapitz, Stacey Brandner, Jenny Higgins, Dan Malchow, Robert Malchow, Dani Kapitz, Samantha Kapitz, Jason Johnson and Sara Johnson.
Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
Hemer Funeral Service of Medford assisted the family with arrangements.
Arthur Kapitz was born May 11, 1947 in Medford to the late Arthur and Clara (Cudo) Kapitz Sr. He attended Rib Lake area elementary schools and was a 1965 graduate of Rib Lake High School. After his education, he entered the United States Army and served during the Vietnam war until 1968, then worked in Minneapolis, Minn. as a machinist.
On March 17, 1978 in Medford, he married Diana Johnson, who survives. He worked at Hurd Millwork in the maintenance department until ill health forced his retirement. He also had a hobby farm in the Town of Hammel.
He was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors and family time.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Dale (Jean) Miller of Fox Lake, Ill., Timothy (Deanna) Miller of Mosinee, Mark (Colleen) Miller of Fond du Lac, Jonathan (Kari) Kapitz of Medford and Tracey Kapitz of Hudson; two sisters, Carol (Don) Herman of Minneapolis and Mary (Jack) Imbach of Medford; a brother, Jerry (Penny) Kapitz of Mukwonago; his mother-in-law, Lenora Johnson of Medford; and seven grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, John Johnson.

Leona Paustenbach
1919-2008
Leona V. Paustenbach, 89, Medford, died Thursday, Oct. 23 at Deerview Meadows Assisted Living in Medford. Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 25 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger and Deacon Joe Stefancin officiating. Interment was at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Medford. Pallbearers were Marty Cipar and Steve, Tom and Cody Paustenbach.
Hemer Funeral Service of Medford assisted the family with arrangements.
