Sister M. Felicia Brueser
On January 27, 2003, at 8:25 p.m., the heavenly Father called the eldest member of our international institute of the Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary to eternity, Sister M. Felicia Brueser.

On November 20th, Sr. M. Felicia celebrated her 100th birthday. She lived a long and fruitful life in the service of our institute. She was born in Germany in 1902 of a merchant family. She studied to become an international correspondent, an unusual profession for a woman at that time. As was the custom in the early 1900's, she traveled widely as an associate of well-to-do women of society. During her first visit to Milwaukee, she was introduced into society circles. In the early 1930's, she renounced this lifestyle to enter a new type of consecrated life in a new ecclesial movement within the Catholic Church, Schoenstatt. She entered the institute on March 1, 1931. In 1938, she followed the call of our founder, Fr. Joseph Kentenich, to help establish our mission work in South Africa, where she eventually was appointed provincial superior. In 1954, she was elected as General Assistant of the community, that is, the second highest superior. She held this post until the following General Chapter in 1967. At that time, Fr. Kentenich asked if she would be willing to come to the United States to take over the leadership of the young province in Wisconsin. This she gladly did without hesitation.

Sr. Felicia held this position until 1978. During her long years of retirement, she gathered her memoirs of the history of the community, to which she had contributed so much leadership and expertise. She spent her days actively interested in everything happening in the community and in society. She also enjoyed the wonders of God's nature.

She is survived by her sister Lucie Brueser, who resides in Germany. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 29, 2003 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday, January 30, 2003 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Provincial House, W284 N404 Cherry Lane. A rosary will be held on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The funeral Mass will be on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the Provincial House followed by interment at the Sisters' cemetery.
