Alma F. Austin, 82, of Rockton, IL, died Tuesday, April 29, 2003 in Alden Nelson Dedes, Rockford, IL.

She was born May 23, 1920 in Rockton, IL, the daughter of Eddie and Dora Blackmer Lighthart. Alma married Paul Austin on August 12, 1944 in Beloit, WI. He predeceased her on September 26, 1978. Alma was employed by Atwood Vacuum, retiring in 1966. She attended Old Stone Church.

Survivors include her one son, Ronald (Barbara) Henderson of Roscoe, IL; four grandchildren, James Henderson of Rockton, IL, Robin (Phillip) Edwards of Rockton, IL, Paul Henderson of Vallejo, CA, and Vicki Garner of Texas; eight great grandchildren, Stephanie and Steven Saelzer, Mallory Edwards, Mark and Brian Henderson, Rene, Joshua, and Jeremy Henderson; one sister, Beulah Morelock of Rockton, IL; one niece.

She was predeceased by her parents, two sons, Russell Henderson and Anthony Miller, two sisters, Iola Royce and Elizabeth Higbee.

Private graveside services will be held Friday May 2, 2003 in the Rockton Cemetery, Rockton, IL. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI.

DOROTHY J. ANTHONY, 72, of Beloit, WI, came to rest on April 24, 2003 in her home.

She was born on October 8, 1930 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Charles and Anna Maly Peterka. Dorothy had a great sense of humor. She was a kind and loving mother who dedicated her life to her children. Dorothy loved life, animals, and taking long drives. She enjoyed eating at JR’s hot dogs in Oak Lawn, IL and Imperial Palace in Roscoe, IL. Dorothy always brought a smile to everyone at the Beloit Clinic and everywhere she went.

Survivors include her two daughters, Deborah (Jeff Davis) Anthony and Roberta (rescued stray animals) Anthony; one son, Paul (Cindy) Anthony; two grandsons, Paul Anthony Jr. and Bradley Anthony; step granddaughter, Sarah Mutnanski; two dogs, Max and Muffin; two cats, Tom and Tara; and best friend for 57 years, Mary Francis Rosencranz.

She was predeceased by her parents, and brother Bobby.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2003 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Eugene George Bussie, of Beloit Wisconsin passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 29, 2005 at the age of 72. Eugene (Gene) Bussie was born in Richland Center, WI on November 6, 1932. He married Betty Jo Barnes on March 29, 1956.

His mother Mable Bussie died giving birth to Gene and he was raised by his father, Herbert Bussie and Annie Weist in Avoca, Wisconsin.

Gene graduated from Avoca High School in 1950, where he lettered in basketball & baseball all four years, with his basketball team winning the championship in 1948.

After graduation, he joined the Air Force. He achieved the Rank Airman First Class and earned the good conduct medal. He was stationed in North Africa during the Korean War. He finished his tour of duty as an MP in Puerto Rico, where he met and married his wife of 49 years, Betty Jo. His father, Herbert and sister Florence Knaub preceded him in death. Surviving is his wife Betty Jo; five children, Charles (Molly) Bussie, Beloit, WI., James (Julie) Bussie, Arlington Hts. IL., Patrick (Denise) Bussie, Beloit, WI., Laurie (Chris) Ehle, Beloit, WI., Michael Bussie, Beloit, WI., and one brother Norbert (Kathy) Bussie, Reedstown, WI.. He was a loving grandfather to nine grandchildren; Eric Nelson, Michelle Ehle, Jon (Laura) Bussie, Jenelle Bussie, Chase Bussie, Jacob Bussie, Chad Bussie, Rachel Bussie, Ryne Bussie.

His first love was his wife and family and he always made sure they celebrated together often throughout the year. He loved to plan gatherings and trips. Every summer he packed up our family in the huge station wagon, hooked up the camper, and took us on the Bussie family vacation, that created great memories our family will enjoy throughout our lives. He made sure he showed all of his children how fish, hunt, camp, play golf, and all types of sports. He was always ready to shoot some hoops or hit a baseball. He also loved to play cards, and made sure all his children and grandchildren knew how to play euchre and cribbage. Later, he loved taking his grandchildren to his land up north in Adams/Friendship creating more memories for the next generation.

He has been a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1956 and employed at Fairbanks Morse for 46 years. He was very active in many work and community organizations. At Fairbanks he was past president of the United Steelworkers Union, member and past president of the Quarter Century Club. In the community he was active in the local Kiwanis, serving as president for two terms, a member of the American Legion (Avoca Chapter), a 32nd degree Mason, as well as being active in the local Moose and Shriners chapters. He served as a Rock County Board supervisor for eight years (4 terms) where he was active on many committees, especially the Parks and Recreation.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday March 31, 2005 in the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jim Rowlette officiating. Burial will be held in Newark Cemetery. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI. is assisting the family.

Mary M. Ballou, 80 of Beloit, WI died Monday, March 28, 2005 at Beloit Memorial Hospital.

She was born November 8, 1924 in Beloit, WI, the daughter of Ardean and Anna Gharrity Ballou. Mary continued however to profess her age to be 26 throughout all her days.

Mary attended Brother Dutton Grade School and graduated from Bishop Muldoon High School in Rockford, IL. She received nurses training at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Aurora, IL. After graduation, Mary was employed as a Registered Nurse for 36 years at Beloit Hospital until her retirement in 1982. She was a devoted member and supporter of St. Jude Catholic Church and the Marion Guild Society.

Survivors include her brothers, William Ballou of Beloit, WI and Edgar (Janet) Ballou of Janesville, WI, and several devoted nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, and niece, Mary Catherine Ballou.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2005 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 747 Hackett Street, Beloit, WI with Father Steve Kortendick officiating. Burial will be held at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:45 a.m. Friday until time of the service at the church. Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI assisted the family with arrangements.

Memorials may be given in her name to Brother Dutton School or St. Jude Catholic Church.

Keith M. “Mr. B” Brausam, 46, of South Beloit, IL died unexpectedly Sunday, March 20, 2005 in his home.

He was born August 23, 1958 in Beloit, WI, the son of George H. and Dolores E.M. Cacioli Brausam. Keith attended St. Peter’s Grade School and graduated in 1976 from South Beloit High School. He was a 1983 graduate of Eastern Illinois University and a member of the Delta Phigma Phi Fraternity. Keith married Kimberly Kay Kohl on March 26, 1983 in Sterling, IL.

Keith was employed by Dolan Education Center, Maryville Farm Campus, in Durand, IL. He was a Special Education Industrial Arts Teacher and loved working with children. “May the Work I’ve Done Speak for Me”.

Keith was a former member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and served as an Alter Boy for Father Hetterman. He was active in the South Beloit Girls Softball Association. Keith enjoyed fishing; golfing and he received his greatest joy from his daughter, Rachel and the time spent with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Kimberly of South Beloit, IL; daughter, Rachel of Cornell College; parents, George and Dolores Brausam of Rockton, IL; sister, Paula Aska of Eugene, OR; brother, Matthew (Denise) Brausam of Roseburg, OR; in-laws, Don (Judy) Kohl of Rock Falls, IL, Clay (Nollaig) Kohl of Chicago, IL, Nicholas Kohl stationed at Ft. Jackson, S.C., and Floyd (Mildred) Bowen of Rock Falls, IL; aunt, Sister Rose Marie Brausam OSF of San Diego, CA; uncles, Victor (Bobbie) Brausam of New Port Richie, FL, and Kenneth (Rita) Brausam of Peoria, AZ; nieces, Rylie Brausam and Alyssa Aska; nephew, Eric (Lissa) Aska; many cousins including specials cousins Vickie (Larry) Ranum of Beloit, WI; the staff at Maryville Farm Campus; and many special friends including Lance (Debbie) Harrison of Roscoe, IL.

He was predeceased by his brother, Mark Nolan, grandparents, and niece, Taylor Marie Brausam.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2005 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Father David F. Ryan officiating from the Maryville Farm Campus, Durand, IL. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2005 in the funeral home.

A memorial in his name will be established at a later time.

Merle F. Bliss, 82, of Beloit, WI, died Wednesday, February 16, 2005 in Beloit Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 30, 1922 in Mineral Point, WI, the son of Fredrick and Mary Isabelle Logue Bliss. Merle was a 1940 graduate of Mineral Point High School. He was proud to be in the U.S. Army serving with the 916th F.A. Battery in North Africa and Italy in WWII. Merle married Eileen Day on December 17, 1945 in St. Paul’s Parsonage, Mineral Point, WI.

Merle was employed by Chrysler Financial, retiring in 1986. After 14 1/2 years Merle was the oldest living liver transplant patient from the University of Wisconsin Madison. He was very proud to help other families in educating them about the procedures and the importance of family support of a liver transplant patient.

Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Eileen of Beloit, WI; three daughters, Victoria (Jim) Goodwin of Washington Island, WI, Deborah (Randy) Rynes of Waunakee, WI and Bonnie Cheadle of Minneapolis, MN; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, Homer Bliss of Egg Harbor, WI; one sister-in-law; a niece and nephew, and his faithful companion, Gizmo.

He was predeceased by his parents, two sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 18, 2005 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name to the University of Wisconsin Doug Miller Transplant Fund.

George W. Bersch, 92, of North Carolina and formerly of Beloit, WI, died Sunday, December 5, 2004 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital, Winston-Salem, NC .

He was born on April 7, 1912 in Highland Park, IL, the son of William E. and Adelide W. Leal Bersch. George was a graduate of Lake Forest College. He married Mary Mickey on August 15, 1936 in Wilmette, IL. She predeceased him in 1982.

As a boy, George loved to sing and went to choir camp in 1920. He later joined the Boy scouts and earned his Eagle rank. George began working for the Boy scouts at camp Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan near Antigo, and became a Scout executive in Illinois. He studied privately for the priesthood and graduated with the class at Nashotah House near Delafield. George was ordained to the Episcopal deaconate in 1952 and to the priesthood in 1953. He helped found camp Webb near Wautoma, established in 1960 by the church’s Diocese of Milwaukee. George served as its first executive director and longtime booster. In 1968 George was called to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Beloit, he formally retired in 1976.

Survivors include his children, Winifred (Theodore) VerHaagh of Crivitz, WI, Mary Westring of Brooklyn, NY, Robin (Michael) Teicher of Brookfield, WI, Daniel (Sally) Bersch of Winston-Salem, NC , David Bersch of Eugene, Oregon and Thomas Bersch of Milwaukee, WI; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one sister, Bertha Wilcoxson of DuQuoin, IL

He was predeceased by his parents, brother and sisters.

Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 12, 2005 in the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church 212 W. Grand Avenue, Beloit, WI. There will be no visitation. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given his name to the Ugandan Children of Conflict Education Fund 190 Grand St., Brooklyn, NY or the Heifer Project International, P.O. Box 8058 Little rock, AR 72203.

James E. “Jim” Blackmore Jr., 70, of Adams, WI, died Sunday, February 6, 2005 after a short illness in his home.

He was born March 4, 1934 in Freeport, IL, the son of James E. and Josephine Shippy Blackmore Sr. Jim was a 1952 graduate of Beloit Memorial High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the Air Force Reserves. Jim married Linda Henne in 1956. He later married Mary Jacobs on January 20, 1996 in St. Peter Catholic Church, South Beloit, IL.

Jim was employed by the Beloit Post office for 20 years, retiring in 1988. After his retirement he worked part-time at Bryden Motors as a driver and the Country Market in Wisconsin Dells, WI.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Adams, WI; three children, Pamela (John) Krebs of Shopiere, WI, James E. Blackmore III of Fort Atkinson, WI and Karen (Michael) Weber of Janesville, WI; four step children, Vicki (Bill) McKerrow of Great Lakes, IL, Susan Reese of Beloit, WI, Richard (Roberta) Renk of Anchorage, AK and Mary (Patrick) Girard of Beloit, WI; four grandchildren, Michael, Paul, Jennifer and Tim; seven step grandchildren, Donielle, Richard, Autumn, Jillian, Mejia, Daniel and Jacob; two great grandchildren, Madilyn and Mason; one brother, Allen (Karen) Blackmore of Madison, WI.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 10, 2005 in St. Jude Catholic Church with Fr. Steven Kortendick officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by the V.F.W. Post 2306. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with a Scripture service at 5:30 p.m. Visitation will also be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Thursday in the church.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Tomah Hospice.
