William “Bud” Brandt, 89, of Rockton, IL, died Friday, October 15, 2004 in his home.

He was born May 18, 1915 in Roscoe, IL, the son of William H. and Charlotte M. Krouse Brandt. William was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Adelaide A. Holmbeck on April 6, 1945 in the Second Congregational Church.

William was employed by Beloit Corporation, retiring in 1977. He was a lifetime member of the Beloit Rifle Club and a member of the National Rifle Association. William enjoyed making furniture and watching Nascar racing. He was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Adelaide of Rockton, IL; children, Karen (Frank) Stook of Roscoe, IL, Robert (Joan) Brandt of Moss Point, MS, and Patsy (William Allen) Flynn of South Beloit, IL; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, sister, Marie Holmbeck, two great grandchildren, Tyler Geddes and Opal Oldenburg.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 19, 2004 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Pastor Richard Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday in the funeral home.

Memorials may be given in name to the Beloit Regional Hospice.

Tim A. Bauling, 41, of South Beloit, IL died Sunday, October 10, 2004 in Durand, IL.

He was born March 16, 1963 in Beloit, WI, the son of Robert Earl and Deanna (Teed) Bauling. Tim attended Rockton Grade School and Hononegah High School. He served in the United States Army.

Tim was employed by Trenwyth Cement Company, Taylor Freeze, United Industries and Motorola in Harvard, IL. He was currently employed by Miniature Precision Components Inc. in Walworth, WI. Tim enjoyed fishing, Harley Davidson’s and especially spending time with his son, Steven.

Survivors include his nine year old son, Steven; mother of his son, Karen Bauling; mother, Deanna Bauling of South Beloit, IL; brothers, Mark (Teana) Bauling of Rockton, IL and Bryant (Maria) Bauling of South Beloit, IL; step-brothers, Robert “Bobby” Bauling of Dixon, IL and Roger (Enedina) Bauling of St. James, MN; several nieces and nephews, Ryan, Hilary, Erika, Cassandra, Sylvia, Bobby, Christopher, Cassidy and Jacob; aunts, uncles and cousins; special friends, Jeff (Melissa) Hosey and Austin (Lori) Hargraves all of Durand, IL.

He was predeceased by his father, grandparents, two uncles and one aunt.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 16, 2004 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with the Pastor Benny Vance officiating. Burial will be held in Rockton Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until time of services Saturday in the funeral home.

Jean Bostwick, 77, of Janesville, WI, died Monday, September 13, 2004 in Huntington Place Memory Care, Janesville, WI.

She was born April 13, 1927 in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of Olaf and Elsie Kraus Carlson. Jean was a graduate of Rufus King High School and received her Associates degree from Blackhawk Technical College. She married William P. Bostwick on May 3, 1947 in St. John’s Parsonage, Beloit, WI. He predeceased her on November 16, 1997.

Jean was employed by the School for the Deaf in Delavan, WI for 15 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Milwaukee Turner’s Gymnastics Club and a former member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Jean enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs baseball games.

Survivors include her children, Ray (Sue) Bostwick of Port Orchard, WA, Susan (Clyde) Diehl of Neenah, WI, and Anne (Dudley) Kimball of Milton, WI; four grandchildren, Cory (Brian) Dull, Shannon Bostwick, Alayna Diehl and Hannah Diehl; four great grandchildren, Devin Palmer, Braden Dull, Zachary Dull and Jhordan Bostwick; two sisters, Karen Howell and Pat Kidd.

She was predeceased by her parents and brother.

Memorial services will be 4:00 p.m. Friday, September 17, 2004 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with the Reverend William Wagner officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until the time of services Friday in the funeral home.

Memorials may be given in her name to the Janesville Hospice Inc.

Bernice Marie Brenner, 94, of Rockton, IL, died Tuesday, August 17, 2004 in Fair Oaks Health Care Center, South Beloit, IL.

She was born on April 10, 1910 in Rockton, IL, the daughter of Samuel H. and Marie Benton Burns. Bernice attended Rockton Schools. She married John Fred Brenner on June 16, 1933 in Oregon, IL. He predeceased her on November 4, 1983. Bernice was a member of Four Square Gospel Church and was the past secretary and treasurer for the church.

Survivors include her daughters, Marilyn Gregory of Shell Lake, WI, Phyllis Brenner of Beloit, WI, Carol (David) Burnside of Machesney Park, IL and Linda (Lyle) Harvell of South Beloit, IL; five grandchildren, Jim (Nancy) Pokorney of Shell Lake, WI; Kathy (Randy) Huston of N. Vernon, IN, Lisa Harvell of South Beloit, IL, Lyle Harvell of South Beloit, IL and Larry (Tina) Harvell of Mount Morris, IL; eight great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; three great great step grandchildren; one sister, June Gonier of Beloit, WI.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Ruth Joan Stout Dunaway, parents, grandson, David Stout, four brothers, Ernest Burns, Robert Burns, Kenneth Burns and Gerald “Red” Burns; one sister-in-law, Hazel Bonzi.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2004 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with the Reverend Nathan Eddy officiating. Burial will be Rockton Cemetery, Rockton, IL. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of services Friday in the funeral home.

Memorials may be given in her name to Four Square Gospel Church.

Dorothy L. Bernstein, 85, of Beloit, WI, died Thursday, June 24, 2004 in her daughter’s home.

A life long Beloit resident, she was born June 19, 1919 in Beloit, WI the daughter of Harold J. and Ruth E. Allen Vinke. She graduated from Beloit High School Class of 1937. Dorothy married Travis C. Bernstein on November 17, 1940 in Dubuque, IA. He predeceased her on January 28, 1986.

Dorothy was formerly employed by McNeany’s in the credit department and by the Beloit Iron Works (Beloit Corporation) and the Beloit Credit Bureau. She was a member of St Jude Catholic Church since 1940 and the Marian guild. Dorothy also served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross and was a member of the Beloit Historical Society, Friends of Beckman Mill and the Salvation Army.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen (Royden) Nelson of Beloit, WI; three grandchildren, Kathryn (fiance Odis Tinder) Lawver of Beloit, WI, Todd (Sara) Nelson of Chaska, MN and Kimberly (David) Garcia of Beloit, WI; six great grandchildren, Stevanie Lawver, Courtney Lawver, Alexandria Lawver, Brody Norman, Logan Norman, and Hudsyn Garcia; a son-in law, Raymond Darnell of Pecatonica, IL; a sister, Beverly (Bernard “Buck”) Ferger of Beloit, WI and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, and her daughter, Lynn Darnell.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 28, 2004 at St. Jude Catholic Church, with Father William Connell officiating. Burial will be in Rockton Cemetery, Rockton, IL Visitation will be Sunday, June 27, 2004 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m.

Memorials may be given in her name to St. Jude Catholic Church or Beloit Hospice.

Charles “Charlie” J. Byrns, 68, of Beloit, WI died Thursday, June 17 in his home with his loving family at his side.

He was born on November 12, 1935 the son of Robert Stanley and Bertha Eldora Steinmetz Byrns in Vernon County, WI. He graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1954. Charles was employed at Beloit Redi-Mix as a driver until his retirement. He belonged to St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his four children, Traci (Greg) Manthey of Orfordville, WI, Charles (Laura) Byrns of Elkhart, IN, Chris (Shelly) Byrns of Beloit, WI, and Toni (David) Ciabatti of Beloit, WI; seven grandchildren, Addison (Jessica) Manthey of Janesville, WI, Miles (Heidi) Manthey of Lisle, IL Katie and Daniel Byrns of Elkhart, IN, Christopher Byrns of Beloit, WI, Nicholas and Nathan Ciabatti of Beloit, WI; mother, Bertha Eldora Byrns of Beloit, WI; brothers and sisters, Clayton (Linnae) Byrns of Beloit, WI, Betty (Gene) Blaser of Beloit, WI, Donna Gosa of Evansville, WI, Linda (Frank) Beeler of Beloit, WI; sister-in-law, Bernice Byrns, four nieces, five nephews, and several cousins and one uncle.

He was predeceased by his father, Robert Stanley Byrns, grandparents, Oscar and Minta Steinmetz, Manley and Mary Byrns; brother, Clifford Duane Byrns, niece, Dena Clauque and nephew Victor Blaser.

Funeral Services will be 6:00 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2004 at the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with the Reverend Gene VanGalder officiating. A private family burial will be held in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to time of service in the funeral home.

Memorial may be given in his name to the Beloit Hospice.

Margaret James “Peggy” Blod, artist, businesswomen, and devoted mother and grandmother, succumbed to a long battle with illness on Sunday, May 30, 2004 at home. She was 93 years old. Her creative force was a profound influence on her entire family.

Peggy was born on November 29, 1910 in Gregory, South Dakota, the daughter of Joseph and Creola Woodcock Baker. Her family moved gradually westward while her father, a wildcat driller, opened the oilfields in western Montana, and settled eventually in Spokane, Washington. She graduated from St. Paul’s Academy in 1928. She matriculated at Whitman College and graduated with a B.A. in 1932. She taught High School mathematics for several years.

In 1935, Peggy married Francis E. Blod in New York City. She worked at the R.H. Macy Company in the sales department and later became a director of sales training. As a jewelry designer, she produced porcelain pieces during the war and later worked in silver and copper. When her husband Fran founded his own industrial design company in 1944, she joined Francis Blod Design Associates in New York City and served as business manager and Treasurer until 1979. The Blods resided in New York City, NY and New Canaan, CT.

Following the death of her husband in 1979, Peggy consulted with Mobil Oil Company on the development of materials for training modules for a large number of field operations. She retired in 1981 and then moved to Santa Cruz, California where she was active in AAUW, DAR and the Museum of Art and History. She also was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served as Treasurer for many years. In Santa Cruz, she met her most special friends, Bea and Bob Fulton. In 2003, she moved to Roscoe, IL to live with her daughter.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy (Jerry) Gustafson of Roscoe, IL; a son, Francis E. (Marcia) Blod of New Cannan, CT; grandchildren, Christie Blod and Lindsey Blod both of New York, NY, Amy Blod teaching English in China, Jeffrey (Radhika) Gustafson of Brentwood, CA, Grant Gustafson of Chicago, IL; great grandchildren, Ajay and Shreya Gustafson.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband, Francis Eugene Blod and her sister, Priscilla (Edward) Larkin.

Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.

Memorials may be given in her name to Beloit Regional Hospice.

Gladys A. Babcock entered the next stage in her journey on May 8, 2004. She is survived by her husband, Frank; two children, Jo (Tom) Nelson of Beloit, WI and Jim (Pat) Babcock of Midway, AR; two grandsons, Jason (Karen) Babcock of Leesburg, IN and Jeremy Babcock of Chicago, IL; one sister, Irene Ray of Sun Prairie, WI.

She was predeceased by her parents and sister, Leo Yelton.

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2004 in Our Savior's Lutheran Church with the Reverend Erik Jelinek officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI.
