William Joseph 'Carp' Carpenter, 54, of South Beloit, IL died Thursday, January 29, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer in Janesville Mercy Hospital.

He was born August 28, 1949 in Beloit, WI, the son of Fred and June Peterson Carpenter. Carp was a graduate of Beloit Memorial High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Carp was employed by Mid-States Concrete for 20 years. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #191. Carp was an avid Nascar and Green Bay Packer Fan as well as a Harley Davidson enthusiast. He also enjoyed pool and spending time with friends and family.

Survivors include his children, Christine (Cary) Drake of Janesville, WI and Jason (Rachel Coughtry) Carpenter of Mason, WI; mother of his children, Sandra (George) Carpenter-Hendee; fiancé, Barbara Rykowski of South Beloit, IL; five grandchildren, Anjanette Drake, William Drake, Alexandria Drake, Caleb Coughtry-Carpenter and Gabriel Coughtry-Carpenter; four sisters, Susan (Darole) Hollenbach, Judith Jero, June (Earl) Everingham and Beverly (Ron Zimmerman) Schroeder all of Beloit, WI; three brothers, Donnie Carpenter, David (Joni) Carpenter and Steven Carpenter all of Beloit, WI; several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, 'his brothers', a dear and close friend, Jim Sandmire.

He was predeceased by his son, William Joseph Carpenter Jr., his parents, an aunt, Beverly Krinkey, sister-in-law, Mary Carpenter, two nephews, Michael and Stevie Carpenter.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 2, 2004 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI. Burial will be held at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Memorial to the family would be appreciated.

Viola Mae Ciuffo, 84, of Norfolk, VA and formerly of Beloit, WI, died Friday, January 2, 2004 in Providence Care Nursing Home, Norfolk, VA.

She was born September 8, 1919 in Rock City, IL, the daughter of Cornelius 'Neal' and Rose Gerber Shippy. Viola graduated from Dakota High School, St. Francis School of Nursing and Fairly Dickinson University. She was a WWII veteran serving with the U.S. Army as a nurse. Viola married Anthony V. Ciuffo on June 29, 1946 in St. Jude Catholic Church. He predeceased her on February 8, 1986.

Viola was employed by Bergenfield Senior High School in Bergenfield, New Jersey for 15 years as the school nurse, retiring in 1976. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church.

Survivors include her two sons, Armand (Patricia) Ciuffo of Littleton, CO and Allen Ciuffo of Virginia Beach, VA; three grandchildren, Aaron Ciuffo, Michael Ciuffo and Anna Ciuffo; five sisters, Lillian Rahorn of Janesville, WI, Nellie Holste of Rock City, IL, Dorothy (Lee) Meinert of Davis, IL, Iris Shippy of Beloit, WI, and Roslyn (Don) Fehr of Dakota, IL; one brother, Glenn (Ruth) Shippy of Plano, IL; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, two sisters, Florence Myers and Josephine Blackmore, three brothers, Leland, Lyle and Wayne Shippy.

Memorial services will be Saturday, February 28, 2004 in St. Jude Catholic Church with Fr. Steven Kortendick officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. There will be no visitation. Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.

Alicia M. Coutts, 81, of Beloit, WI, died Monday, December 8, 2003 in the University Hospital, Madison, WI.

Alicia was born on August 20, 1922 in Beloit, WI, the daughter of Irvin J. and Edna Funk Kunz. She was a 1941 graduate of Beloit High School, and was previously married to Elbert W. Coutts. Alicia was the first woman from the Beloit area to enter the U.S. Marines. She served from 1943 to 1945 as a radio dispatcher and radar operator, and was stationed in Cherry Point, North Carolina during WWII.

Alicia was an active member of the Marine Corp. League Southwestern, Wisconsin Detachment #673, and was also a member of the American Legion Post #48. Alicia was a volunteer and longtime donor for the American Red Cross, where she has donated 77 pints of blood. She was a member of Second Congregational Church since 1942.

She is loved and will be missed by her survivors, which include her children, Christine Figi of Beloit, WI, Sherry (Clark) Gracyalny of Brodhead, WI, James (Geralyn) Coutts of Beloit, WI, and Lori (Ben) Fraase of New Hope, MN; ten grandchildren, Ellee and Nora Figi, Michael (Lisa) Schultz, Robert (Karen) Schultz, Samantha and Jeremy Gracyalny, Preston, Megan, and Ian Coutts, and Lukas Fraase; three great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; special friends from the Marine Corp. League in Beloit; and constant canine companion, Tobey.

She was predeceased by her parents, sister, Ellen Jocz, brothers, Thomas and Irvin Kunz and son-in-law, Bill Figi.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 12, 2003 in the Second Congregational Church 657 Bluff Street, Beloit, WI, with the Reverend Douglas Gray officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery with Military Rites. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI.

Memorials may be given in her name to Second Congregational Church or the American Red Cross in Beloit.

Gertrude A. Case, 88, of Beloit, WI, died Thursday, December 4, 2003 in Beloit Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born August 24, 1915 in Beloit, WI, the daughter of Burton C. and Helen Todish McComb. Gertrude married George R. Case on October 1, 1938 in Dubuque, IA. He predeceased her on October 26, 1988.

Survivors include one son, Robert G. (Mary Ann) Case of Beloit, WI; and one daughter Mary Jane (Mrs. Robert) Pilsner of Delaware, OH; three grandchildren, Robert Case, Ronald Case, Kevin Pilsner; one sister, Margaret Thill; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, parents, and five brothers, Clifford McComb, William McComb, Joseph McComb, Charles McComb, and Theodore R. McComb.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2003 in St. Jude Catholic Church with Fr. Steven J. Kortendick officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m until the time of service Wednesday in the church.

Memorials may be given in her name to St. Jude Catholic Church.

Clinton Edward Copus, 83, of Janesville, WI, died Thursday, December 4, 2003 in Janesville, WI.

He was born December 1st, 1920 in Soldiers Grove, WI, the son of Pearl E. and Liza McMillen Copus. Clinton was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He married Vinnie J. Liotta on August 10, 1957 in Braeburn, PA.

Clinton was employed by Fairbanks Morse & Company from 1963 to 1968 as a Supervisor. He then worked for Warner Electric from 1968 until his retirement in 1985. Clinton was a member of the V.F.W. Post # 1621 in Janesville, WI and the American Legion Post West Field #48 Beloit, WI.

Survivors include his three sons, Eugene Copus of Milton, WI, James (Jane) Copus of Brodhead, WI. Rev. Clinton (Rev. Laurie) McKinven-Copus II of Caledonia, MI; two daughters, Marian (Isidro) of Beloit, WI, Dawn Copus of Janesville, WI; one brother, Gordon (Elsie) Copus of Beloit, WI; sisters; Genevieve Thompson, Betty (Loren) Ballard both of Rockford, IL, Darlene (Stan) Christensen of Beloit, WI and Kay (Robert) Schroder of Beloit, WI; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers Sylvester and Lester Copus and an infant brother at birth, three sisters, Velma Dull and two infant sisters at birth..

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Monday, December 8, 2003 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with the Reverend Jim Thunstrom officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be 9:00 am until the time of the service.

Memorials may be given to the Stateline Literacy Council , 409 Pleasant Street, Beloit, WI.

Catherine H. 'Katie' Cronin, 69, of Rockton, IL, died Saturday, September 27, 2003 in Swedish American Hospital, Rockford, IL.

She was born June 14, 1934 in Augusta, ME, the daughter of John and Susan Harvey Sproul. Katie married Dennis Cronin on June 16, 1956 in Augusta, ME.

Katie was an incredibly devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a very active member in the community, schools and events. Some of her many memberships include the Jaycettes, Mother of Twins Club, Rockton Grade School PTO, and Rockton Village Planning Committee. She was a chairman for Our Town Committee. Katie was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.

Survivors include her husband Dennis of Rockton, IL; children, Cathy Cronin of Columbia City, IN, Kelly (Sorin) Jordache of Fleetwood, PA, Kristi (Greg) Klimowicz of Twin Lake, MI., Kevin Cronin of Rockford, IL, Sue (Bob) Cheney of West Chester, OH, Shaun Cronin of Kingstown, St. Vincent West Indies, Julie (Shawn) Oberreiter of Mentor, OH, and Jennifer (David) Parrish of LaBelle, MO; 15 grandchildren, Matei, Lydia and Luca Jordache, Jonathon, Steve, Joe and Susie Klimowicz, Taryn and Adam Cheney, Sarah, Emily, and Andrew Oberreiter, Jackson, Noah and Sam Parrish; two brothers, Robert (Donna) Sproul, and Paul (Jeannette) Sproul; five sisters, Annie Tomasello, Mary Wing, Ida (Joe) Owen, Jane Morin and Pauline (Ralph) Marceau; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one son, Dennis C. Cronin Jr., her parents, two sisters, Lillian Quigley and Doris Sproul, two brothers, Harvey Sproul and Oliver Sproul.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 2, 2003 in St. Peter Catholic Church with Fr. Zdzislaw Francis Wawryszuk officiating. Burial will be in Rockton Cemetery, Rockton, IL. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with a scripture service at 7:45 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to your favorite charity in Katie's name.

FAYE J. CREVISTON, 79, of Beloit, WI, died Friday, August 29, 2003 in Beloit Memorial Hospital.

He was born September 30, 1923 in Berlin, WI, the son of James E. and Ellen C. Stokes Creviston. Faye was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Survivors include one brother, Clyde (Lyla) Creviston of Beloit, WI, several nieces and nephews including special nieces and nephews in Beloit, Joann Rosenow, Janice (James) Green, Larry (Judy) Rosenow, Caroline (Vic) Beretta, and Cheryl (Bill) Arnold; great nieces and nephews; great great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers, Earl, Ray and Bert Creviston, two sisters, Genevieve Rosenow and Beatrice Reise.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2003 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with the Reverend Mary Froiland officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. until the time of services Wednesday in the funeral home.

PATRICIA ANN 'Patty' CUMMINGS, 48, of Beloit, WI, died Wednesday, August 27, 2003 in Froedtert Memorial Hospital, Milwaukee, WI.

She was born March 17, 1955 in Madison, WI, the daughter of Kennard and Donna Grant Riley. Patty was a 1973 graduate of Beloit Memorial High School. She also graduated from Blackhawk Technical College receiving her Dental Assistant Degree. Patty married Raymond E. Cummings on April 1, 1998 in Janesville, WI.

Patty was employed by Black & Decker from 1990 until 1997. She loved decorating, gardening, and being outdoors.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond; two children, David Riley of Beloit, WI, and Jamie Robinson of Rockford, IL; three step children, Jennifer (Leondo) Braxton, Kristina Cummings, and Lisa Cummings all of Beloit, WI; six grandchildren, Rodrigo, Aiyana, Victor, Lucy, Anna, and Liliana; her mother and step father, Donna (Arnold) Kramar of Murray, KY; two brothers, Ronald Riley and Tracy Bell both of Las Vegas, NV; two sisters, Alice Lockwood and Sandra Riley both of Beloit, WI, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Patty will be sadly missed by her husband, sons, mother, brothers, sisters and friends.

She was predeceased by her father, paternal grandparents, Iva and James Riley, maternal grandparents, Alice and Walter Grant, two brothers, Rodney Riley and Allen Riley.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2003 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Fr. Monte Robinson officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

HARLEY W. CHRISTENSEN, 87, of Beloit, WI, died Friday, August 8, 2003 in Beloit Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Harley was employed by Fairbanks Morse & Company for 39 years, working in Mexico for a year and Kansas City for 6 years. He also owned Christie's Beauty Salon from 1964 to 1973. Harley was a member of the Fairbanks Quarter Century Club and Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife Thelma; two sons, Harley (Jeanne) Christensen of Woodlake, CA, and Steven (Paulette) Christensen of Beloit, WI; four grandchildren, Melisa (Tim) McMahon of Beloit, WI, Scott Christensen of Waukesha, WI, Anna (Todd) Frohman of Vine Grove, KY, and Gabriella Schultz of Indian springs, NV; four great grandchildren, Montana McMahon, Alex Sheets, April and ReaAnne Schultz; two brothers, Stanley Christensen of Clinton, WI, and Charles Christensen of Crestview, FL; three sisters, Pearl LaSure of Clinton, WI, Luella Bauder of Beloit, WI and Frieda (Les) Kramer of Rockton, IL.

He was predeceased by his parents, and one brother, Chester Christensen.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2003 in Our Savior's Lutheran Church with the Reverend Clark Kilgard officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery with Military Rites. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Our Savior's Lutheran Church or Beloit Regional Hospice.
