Ramona A. Glaser, 84, of Beloit, WI, died Wednesday, February 19, 2003 in Premier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing.

She was born September 30, 1918 in Aurora, IL, the daughter of William and Grace Clyde Phelps. Ramona married James Glaser on November 25, 1938 in St. Patricks Church, Dubuque, IA. He predeceased her on January 7, 1985.

Ramona owned and operated the Night Cap Motel in Watertown, WI. Later she was employed by Brandt Factory in Watertown, WI, and Freeman Shoe Company for 19 ½ years, retiring in 1958. She was a member of Our Lady Of The Assumption Catholic Church.

Survivors include her three special friends, Ethel Mitchell of Beloit, WI, and Theodore (Edna) Weiss of Monroe, WI.

She was predeceased by her parents, and one brother, William Phelps.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. February 21, 2003 in Our Lady Of The Assumption Catholic Church, with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until the time of services Friday in the church. Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family.

Matthew Carl Hartman, 42, of 545 Public Avenue, Beloit, WIs. died unexpectedly on March 7, 2005 at Beloit Memorial Hospital. For the last few years he suffered from a severe heart problem.

Matt was born March 24, 1962 in Beloit, the son of John F. and Mary-Nairn (Susan) Hartman. He graduated from Beloit Catholic High School in 1980.

As a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Matt volunteered for Olde Rectory Sales, Meals on Wheels, and Hands of Faith. He enjoyed helping friends with gardening, yard work and odd jobs. He was an avid reader and published poet with a philosophical nature and sense of humor, always willing to engage in discussions around controversial topics.

Survivors include his mother, Susan; his sisters, Melinda N. (Bryan Rodwell) Hartman-Rodwell of Littleton, Colo., Lisa M. (Mike Mossman) Hartman of Leland, Wis., and Pamela J. (Jeanne Kerechanin) Hartman of Manitou Springs, Colo.; one niece, Courtney Nairn Rodwell; and three nephews, Eli Andrew Hartman, Benjamin William Rodwell, and Angus John Hartman Mossman; two uncles, Robert G. (Dolores) Hayssen and Carl G. Hayssen; nine cousins and their families.

He was preceded in death by his father, John F. Hartman; his aunt Virginia W. Hayssen; and cousin, Andrew S. Hayssen.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2005 in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with the Reverend Gail Abbott officiating. Entombment will be in St. Joseph of Arimathea Columbarium. There will be no visitation. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI.

Memorials may be given in his name to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Dorothy M. Hansen, a lifelong resident of Beloit, WI died Saturday, February 26, 2005 at Beloit Memorial Hospital.

She was born the daughter of Henry O. and Mary A. Nevels Hansen. Dorothy graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1941. She attended Miss Ward’s Business College and Beloit Vocational School. She was the office secretary for the Beloit Girl Scouts from 1943 to 1947. Dorothy worked for Fairbanks Morse from 1947 to 1961. She was a life long member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her cousin, Carmel J. Zellars of Federal Way, Washington; close friends, Dan (Kathie) Cornford, Jeff (Joyce) Neubauer, and Darrell (Arvella) Wentworth.

She was predeceased by her parents.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2005 in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with the Reverend Erik Jelinek officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday until time of service at the church. Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI 53511 assisted the family with the arrangements.

Memorial may be given in her name to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

Geraldine H. “Gerry” Hollinshead, 86, of South Beloit, IL, died Friday, February 11, 2005 in Fair Oaks Health Care Center, South Beloit, IL.

She was born April 23, 1918 in Beloit, WI, the daughter of Walter and Harriett Schroeder Schaaf. Gerry graduated in 1935 from South Beloit High School. She married Merle Hollinshead on October 11, 1940 in Beloit, WI. He predeceased her on February 28, 1980.

Gerry was employed by Freeman Shoe Company for 15 years and at Besly Wells Corporation for 26 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post 2306, M.O.C.A., Beloit Vocational Homemakers Club, Besly Wells Quarter Century Club and a former board member of Besley Wells Credit Union. Gerry loved to travel and be with people.

Survivors include her brother, Donald (Jean) Schaaf of Orfordville, WI; three nieces; one nephew; special cousin, Dorothy Wright of Beloit, WI; several cousins and many good friends including, Clarion Olson and his family, David and Judy Olson, Tyler and Anna Olson, Nealy Olson, Barbara and Mark Melaas, Cori Amman, Brett and Stephanie Melaas, Broc Alexander, Summer Amman, Dan and Amy Martin, Laura and Brittany Martin, and Bea Daniels.

She was predeceased by her parents.

Funeral services will be 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2005 in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Reverend William Wagner officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until the time of services Tuesday in the church. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.

Veronica M. Hasselman, 99 of Beloit, WI died Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at Hearthstone Manor in Woodstock, IL, where she had lived since November 7, 2003.

She was born January 29, 1906, in Lamoni, IA to Carwin Arthur and Alice Mabel Asbach Miller.

Veronica is survived by two daughters, Joyce Irene Nigbor (Bill) of Madison, WI, and Janice Elaine Bosman (Bob) of Woodstock, IL; four grandchildren, Natalie Lynn Zieziul (Tom) of Grand Rapids, MI, Marc Jon Killingstad (Julie) of Los Angeles, CA, Robin Lynn Grover (Charley) of Woodstock, IL, and Joel Robert Bosman (Julia) of Huntley, IL; four great grandchildren, Leonard Charles (Trey), Veronica Rose and Joseph Garrett Grover and Bruno Robert Bosman; and one half-sister, Marjorie Alice Oaks of Santa Maria, CA.

She was predeceased by her parents, an infant son, Carwin John, her husband, George William, two sisters, Gwenodine Elva Uber and Velma Irene Clark, one brother, Vernon Arthur Miller, half-sister, Viola Ione Merrill, and a special friend, Wilbur John Dietzman.

Veronica’s work life consisted of working at the Freeman Shoe Company, and as a farmer’s wife. She amused herself during her later years by listening to books on tape, reading large print books, watching game shows, and playing cards at Grinnell Hall and with her family.

She was a former member of the Beloit Women of the Moose Chapter #56, the Beloit Federation of Women and Grinnell Senior Center.

Memorial services will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2005 at Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI 53511 with Pastor Norman Starks and Reverend Louisett Ness officiating. Burial will be held at East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:30 Thursday to time of service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to Hearthstone Manor in Woodstock, IL or to the donor’s favorite charity.

Josephine N. Horinka, 88, of South Beloit, IL, died Monday, January 10, 2005 in her home.

She was born on August 30, 1916 in Pittsfield, MA, the daughter of Joseph and Antoinette Muron Ziemak. Josephine attended Pittsfield High School in Pittsfield, MA. She married Steven J. Horinka on September 7, 1937 in Pittsfield, MA.

Josephine was employed by the St. Clare’s Hospital in Schenectady, N.Y., retiring in 1986. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, South Beloit, IL.

Survivors include her daughters, Stephanie Karwowski of South Beloit, IL and Marcia (Eric) Bush of Oro Grande, CA; daughter-in-law, Meg Horinka of Beloit, WI; three grandchildren, Steven (Allison) Horinka of E. Moline, IL, Jennifer (Christopher) Klemme of Sheboygan, WI and John (Leslie) Horinka of Milwaukee, WI; four great grandchildren; one sister, Helena Piotrowski of Schenectady, NY; sister-in-law, Statia Ziemak of Oceanside, CA; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Eckburg, Lisa and their staff of Heartland Hospice in Rockford, IL.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband, daughter, JoAnn Horinka, son, Michael Horinka and brother, Victor Ziemak.

A memorial mass will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 13, 2005 in St. Peter Catholic Church with Fr. Jerome Kortenick officiating. Burial will be in Schenetady, New York at a later date. There will be no visitation. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be given to the Heartland Hospice, Rockford, IL.

Dorothy W. Hendee, 88, of Roscoe, IL died Saturday, January 1, 2005 at home with her daughter, Sandee.

She was born July 24, 1916 in Sharon, WI the daughter of William and Elizabeth Boness Alberth. Dorothy married Arnold Wayne Hendee on June 30, 1951 in Delavan, WI. He predeceased her on May 19, 2000.

She worked for the Beloit Hilton Hotel for 15 years. Dorothy and her husband opened Hendee’s Resort and Bait Shop in Hayward, WI, where they were owners and operators for 30 years. They enjoyed running the resort and their loyal patrons that were dear friends to them. After running the resort they moved to a retirement village in Tucson, Arizona for two and a half years.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandra (William) Irving of Roscoe, IL; grandchildren, Brant (Kristin) Kitto of Roscoe, IL, and Tiffany Kitto of New York, NY; great grandchildren, David, Alex, Maura and Greta Kitto; one brother, Russell (Betty) Alberth of Delavan, WI; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one sister and two brothers.

Memorial services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2005 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI 53511 with Reverend Edward May from the Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. There will be no visitation.
