Verna K. Hutchison, 94, of Beloit, WI, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 4, 2004 in Sunshine Adult Living and Respite Care, Beloit, WI with her family beside her.

She was born on March 18, 1910 in Prairie Farm, WI, the daughter of John A. and Ida Otillie Blake Kahl. Verna was a graduate of Barron High School. She married Ralph W. Hutchison on September 1, 1933 in Prairie Farm, WI. He predeceased her in 1986.

Verna was employed by Freeman Shoe Company for 20 years. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and was very involved in her church. Verna had a very green thumb and most of her produce went to help others in the church organizations. She liked to knit, crochet, read and sew.

Survivors include her three daughters-in-law, Lucy Hutchison, Connie Hutchison both of Indiana and Carol Hutchison of Beloit, WI; five grandchildren, Wm. Lonnie Luethy, Jeff Hutchison and Stevan Hutchison all of Beloit, WI, Curt Hutchison of Colorado, and Keith Hutchison of Mount Horeb, WI; 11 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, two sons, Ralph Hutchison and William John Hutchison, sister, Helen Wessels and three brothers, Althly, Earl, and Byron.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 9, 2004 in the Messiah Lutheran Church 1531 Townline Road, Beloit, WI, with the Reverend Dennis Pingel officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services Thursday in the church. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.

Memorials may be given in her name to Messiah Lutheran Church.

Ivan George “Ike” Hawkins, 75, of Beloit, WI, died Saturday, December 4, 2004 in Beloit Health & Rehabilitation.

He was born on October 23, 1929 in Davis, IL, the son of Roy and Mildred Robertson Hawkins. Ivan married Katherine Nehls on August 25, 1956 in St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Ivan was a farmer and in 1955 he went to work for Beloit Corporation for 35 years as a molder-dryer. He retired on July 1, 1991. Ivan enjoyed playing dart ball, bowling, camping and ushering at church. He had a collection of tractors and horses. Ivan liked to watch the Packers, baseball and car racing.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine; one son, Allen (Denise) Hawkins; four grandchildren, Kristoffer, Shawnya, Heather and Steven; one brother, Lawrence Hawkins of Rockford, IL; one step brother, LaVern Taylor of Fort Atkinson, WI; sister-in-law, Helen; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, brother, sister, step sister and step dad, DeVere Taylor.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 9, 2004 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Pastor Roger Elliott officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from10:00 a.m. until the time of services Thursday in the funeral home.

Cathryn M. Hayes, 94, of South Beloit, IL, died Thursday, November 24, 2004 in her home.

She was born on February 18, 1910 in Melrose, Minnesota, the daughter of Patrick L. and Isabel Scruby Clarity. Cathryn married William D. Hayes on November 26, 1936 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in South Beloit. He predeceased her on May 8, 1975.

Cathryn was employed at Kresge’s Five and Dime Store as a bookkeeper. She also worked as a librarian for Hononegah School District, and retired from South Beloit Public Library as a librarian. Cathryn was a volunteer librarian for St. Peter’s Catholic School. She was a former Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, and a Wheeler House Committee member. Cathryn wrote the history for the City of South Beloit’s Centennial Anniversary Celebration. She was an avid traveler of the United States, reader, collector of rocks and enjoyed the study of the American Indian Culture. Cathryn enjoyed educating children on nature and the history of South Beloit.

Survivors include her daughter, Pat (Mike) Stanczak of Pleasant Prairie, WI; grandchildren, Dana Nix, Kathleen (John) Vaage, Michael Nix, Steve (Anne) Stanczak, Bill Stanczak, Michele (Steve) Stevens; seven great grandchildren, Shawn, Andrew, Camille, Nathan, Daniel, Dawn and Kailyn; daughter-in law, Sharon Nix of Madison, WI.

She was predeceased by her parents, son, Dennis Hayes; and brothers, Budd and Lawrence Clarity.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Father Jerome Koutnik officiating. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI 53511 with a Scripture Service at 5:00 p.m. Visitation will also be from 9:30 a.m. Tuesday until time of service in the church.

Fern O. Hefti, 91, formerly of Beloit, WI, died Monday, November 1, 2004 in University Park Nursing Center, Fort Wayne, IN.

She was born on January 13, 1913 in Mayfield Township, Dekalb County, IL, the daughter of Davis and Martha Atwood Burchfield. Fern married Edward Hefti on May 9, 1931 in South Beloit, IL. He predeceased her on May 2, 1982.

Fern was employed by J.C. Penney Company for 15 years, retiring in 1978. She attended Gridley Congregational Church.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Julie (Rodney) Solimon of Fort Wayne, IN and Jan (Laurie) Veihman of Augusta, GA; seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, sisters and daughter, Carole Veihman.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2004 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Pastor Ruth Lyons officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until the time of services Friday in the funeral home.

Debra “Deb” L. Dray Hallett, 47, of Beloit, WI died Saturday, October 30, 2004 in her home.

She was born December 31, 1956 in Beloit, WI, the daughter of Lawrence and Phyllis Sharp Dray. Debra graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1975 and from Blackhawk Technical College in 1978. She married Ron Hallett on October 11, 1980 in Beloit, WI.

Debra was employed as a cashier at Culvers in Beloit for five years. She was previous employed at Beloit Clinic and McDonalds. Debra was a member of the Shopiere Congregational Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ron; sons, Matt Hallett and Tim Hallett of Beloit, WI; mother, Phyllis Dray of Beloit, WI; father and mother-in law, Harold and Evelyn Hallett of Beloit, WI; sister, Penny (Steve) Rabuck of Beloit, WI; brother, Larry (Chris) Dray of Beloit, WI; brothers-in-law, Robert Hallett of Beloit, WI, Raymond (Cindy) Hallett of Cheyenne, WY, Russell (Jeannette) Hallett of Panama City, FL, Roger (Judy) Hallett of Beloit, WI; sister-in-law, Mary Hallett and her companion Eric of Beloit, WI; nieces and nephews, Robert, Jay, Ryan, Scott, Todd, Mark, Kenneth, Laurel, Emily, Amy, and Jill Hallett, Trishia Rabuck, Kari and Heather Dray; great niece Aubrey Rabuck; special friends, Chris Gunderson, Susan Benarcik, Sally Rankins, GeorgeAnn Ennocenti, Dr. Larry and Sue Correll.

She was predeceased by her father, Lawrence Dray and many aunts and uncles.

“I want to be remembered that I loved my family very much and I had many wonderful friends and supporters. I experienced great love and support from the Shopiere Congregational Church.”

Memorial services will be 12:00 Noon Saturday, November 6, 2004 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home Chapel, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI 53511 with the Reverend Larry Correll from the Shopiere Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until time of services Saturday in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to Shopiere Congregational Church or the American Cancer Society.

Vera J. Hundley, 98, of Beloit, WI, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2004 in Premier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing.

She was born January 22, l906 in Beloit, WI, the daughter of John and Anna Anderson. She is survived by her daughters, Darlene (Jerry) Marti-Huggins of Goleta, CA. and Phyllis (Bruce) Hundley-Callan of Mission, TX. She is also survived by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband Arnold Hundley and her first husband Bill Marti, her daughter, Claudia Lawver-Maddrell, her grandson, David Callan, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2004 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of services Saturday in the funeral home.

William J. Herd Sr., 85, of Beloit, WI, died Saturday, September 4, 2004 in Beloit Memorial Hospital.

He was born on June 17, 1919 in Pontotoc, MS, the son of Erskin and Beatrice Hancock Herd. At the age of 9 William’s father died. He was then raised by his mother and step father Dewey Hillard. William was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 receiving various medals. He married Velma Buggs on October 7, 1939 in Dubuque, IA. She predeceased him on July 7, 1995.

William was employed by the Beloit Iron Works for 18 years and later went to work for Chrysler Corporation, retiring in 1985. He was a long time member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and was a past member of the Quest Club. William loved to take pictures of his family and was known as “Video Joe.”

Survivors include his children; William J. (Mary) Herd Jr. of Brown Deer, WI, Beverly Wright of Kansas City, MO, Marilyn (Clifton) Manuel of Beloit, WI and Gary L. Herd Sr. of Fremont, CA; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ruby Herd of Beloit, WI; brother-in-law, Willie “Pete” Walker of Beloit, WI; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents and step father, his son, Ronald E. Herd, brother, Charles Herd Sr., and sister, Helen Holt

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2004 in the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1151 E. Grand Ave, Beloit, WI, with the Reverend Dr. Floyd Prude officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, and from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services Saturday in the church.

Kenneth L. “Buddy” Hiatt (Bud the Dirt Doctor), 40, of Columbia Heights, MN, and formerly of Beloit, WI and South Beloit, IL, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, August 13, 2004.

He was born on January 12, 1964 in Beloit, WI, the son of Kenneth Hiatt and Carol (Hiatt) Hills. Buddy was self-employed as a general contractor. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. Buddy enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends. He was also looking forward to the birth of his first grandchild, Abigail Hiatt.

Buddy is survived by his daughter, Dusty Rose Hiatt and three sons, Jeramiah (Katie) Higgins, Joshua (Melissa) Hiatt and Jarrett Hiatt; two sisters, Ronda (Mike) Johnson of Sparta, WI and Kristine (Wade) Nelson; one brother, Rick “Hairy” (Dawn) Hiatt; stepfather, John Hills all of Beloit, WI; special cousin and friend, Tina Maria Hiatt; his grandfather, Art (Helen) Hiatt of New Mexico; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousin and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.

He was predeceased by his parents; grandmother, Rose Hiatt; grandparents, Leslie and Charlotte Windsor and his uncle, Leroy ‘Butch” Hiatt.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2004 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI. There will be a luncheon to follow the visitation at Frank and Sally’s Park Place Lounge, formerly the Stateline Machinist Lodge, 720 Park Avenue, South Beloit, IL.

In lieu of flowers, donations and memorials to the family would be greatly appreciated.
