ANNA L. HALZEL, 57, of Beloit, WI, died Thursday, September 4, 2003 in St. Luke’s Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI.

She was born August 7, 1946 in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Harold and Verna Larson Karg. Anna married Carl F. Halzel on January 27, 1973 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Beloit, WI.

Anna was employed by and managed Stop and Go for many years. She was a member of Sybil Rebekah Lodge # 164. Anna enjoyed her time using and learning on her computer.

Survivors include her husband, Carl of Beloit, WI; four children, Paula Halzel, Tamara (Dale) Putnam, Christopher Halzel all of Beloit, WI, and Nathan Halzel of Roscoe, IL; four grandchildren, Brittany, Kayelynn, Alexis and Tyler; one sister, Mary Peterson of Madison, WI; nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Anna’s love and time for her family and friends came first. She will be missed by all.

She was predeceased by her parents and one brother, Francis.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2003 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with the Reverend Kurt Handrich officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

MABEL L. SPAULDING HAUGEN, 93, formerly of Orfordville and Beloit, WI, died Monday, September 1, 2003 in Skaalen Sunset Home, Stoughton, WI.

She was born November 21, 1909 in Janesville, WI, the daughter of Arthur W. and Eva Van Wormer Spaulding. Mabel was a graduate of Janesville High School and the University of Wisconsin Business College, Madison, WI. She married Clarion W. Haugen on December 20, 1936 in Janesville, WI. He predeceased her on July 11, 1981.

Mabel was employed by Beloit College as a Research Assistant, retiring in 1974. She owned and operated with her husband, Haugen Hardware in Orfordville, WI from 1951 to 1965. After retirement from 1974 to 1986 she started her own Free Lance Writing Agency. Mabel was a member of the Wisconsin Regional Writers and won over $50, 000.00 in recipe contests. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Beloit, WI and attended St. John’s Lutheran Church, Evansville, WI.

Survivors include her one son, Lawrence C. (Shari) Haugen of Dodgeville, WI; one daughter, Julie (Frank) Haugen-Hosszu of Bayfield, WI; five grandchildren, Erik (Tracie) Haugen of Plainfield, IL, Melissa (Dan) Carlson of Madison, WI, Jennifer (Marc) McCright of Racine, WI, Craig (Maria) Fairbert of Tony, WI, and Darci Feggestad of Janesville, WI; 11 great grandchildren, Kelly Haugen, Kristina Fairbert, Amanda McCright, Charles Fairbert, Justin Barone, Marc McCright, Isaiah McCright, Devin Feggestad, Brody Feggestad, Emily Carlson and Jessica Carlson.

She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, Earl and Raymond Spaulding, one grandson, Scott Fairbert, one grand son-in-law, Rick Feggestad and a very dear friend Charles Porath.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2003 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with the Reverend Richard Halom officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until the time of services Friday in the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to Skaalen Sunset Home.

BRIAN R. HAUSER Sr., 46, of Beloit, WI, died Monday, September 1, 2003 as a result of an automobile accident.

He was born April 16, 1957 in Beloit, WI, the son of Duane M. Hauser and Patricia C. Flint Rusch. Brian attended Hononegah High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Brian was employed by Price Brothers for 24 years as a forklift driver. He was a member of the Local Labor Union. Brian enjoyed motorcycles and playing in pool leagues in the South Beloit, IL area.

Survivors include his children, Kelly Denise Hauser of Beloit, WI, and Brian Raymond Hauser Jr. of San Diego, CA; his mother, Patricia (Carl) Rusch of Davis, IL; his father, Duane (Kelly) Hauser of Fall River, WI; one grandson, J.J. Avila Jr.; two brothers, Michael (Georganna) Hauser of Machesney Park, IL and David Hauser of Davis, IL; one sister, Karen (Randall) Knox of Rockton, IL; paternal grandfather, Frank J. Oliva of Waunakee, WI; two aunts; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents and paternal grandmother.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 5, 2003 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with the Reverend Norman Starks officiating. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Memorial to the family would be appreciated.

Audrey S. Hanewall, 93, of Beloit, WI, died Saturday, October 18, 2003 in Encore Senior Villa, Beloit, WI.

She was born December 21, 1909 in Plankinton, South Dakota, the daughter of Ernest Seth and Inger Idso Shepardson. Audrey was a 1926 graduate of Beloit High School. She married Edwin R. Hanewall on October 20, 1934 in Beloit, WI. He predeceased her on December 1, 1992.

Audrey and her husband farmed together, west of Beloit. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Altar Guild, American Lutheran Church Women and Deaconess Committee. Audrey was an active leader and chairman of the home ground program for 4-H. She was a member of the Rural Advancement Club and the senior board at M&I Bank. In 1957 Audrey summited her family for selection to the All American Family. The Hanewall family was nominated by Emily Mudd of the University of Pennsylvania and were selected as the recipients of that award.

Survivors include two sons, Peter (Susan) Hanewall of Beloit, WI and David (Holly) Hanewall of McFarland, WI; four grandchildren, Holly Hanewall of Mason City, IA, Heather Hanewall of Beloit, WI, Matthew (Wendy) Hanewall of LaCrosse, WI, and Casey Hanewall of Washington, D.C.; two great grandchildren, Ethan and Ellayna Hanewall of LaCrosse, WI.

Audrey’s faith was always very important to her and she lived accordingly.

She was predeceased by her parents, one sister, Mildred Carlson and two brothers, Norman and Dwight Shepardson.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 24, 2003 in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with the Reverend Clark Kilgard officiating. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until the time of services Friday in the church. Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI. assisted the family with arrangements.

Memorials may be given in her name to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

JERRY V. HUFFAR SR., 62, of Beloit, WI, died Wednesday, October 15, 2003 in Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, SC.

He was born September 6, 1941 in Beloit, WI, the son of Velton and Bessie Buening Huffar. Jerry was a 1959 graduate of Clinton High School. He attended the University of Wisconsin Madison, the University of Wisconsin Whitewater and Rockford Business College. Jerry married Virginia K. Bassett on July 17, 1965 in Dubuque, IA.

Jerry was formerly employed by Cunningham Brothers Construction, Voss Agency and Bort’s Real Estate. He later started his own business Huffar Realty and currently is owner and operator of Huffar-Helms & Associates Realtors. Jerry’s accomplishments as a realtor-broker were Licensed Real Estate Broker in the state of Wisconsin since 1968, Licensed Real Estate salesman in the state of Illinois since 1971, and Licensed Real Estate Broker in the state of Illinois since 1976. In 1975 and 1977 Jerry was the realtor of the year for the Beloit Board of Realtors Association. He then became vice president, president and director of the Beloit Board of Realtors. Jerry was a member of the Wisconsin Realtors Association, the National Association of Realtors, and the Million Dollar Sales Club for 34 years. He was the approved appraiser for the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, court appointed appraiser by Rock County Court Branch No. 1 and Fee appraiser for Verex Assurance, Inc. in Madison since 1982. Jerry was a member of First United Methodist Church serving on the board of trustees from 1982 to 1984. He was an avid baseball, Nascar and Wisconsin Badger fan.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia of Beloit, WI, two children, Jerry (Melissa) Huffar Jr. of Janesville, WI, and Debra (Brett) Hanson of Sun Prairie, WI; four grandchildren, Miranda and Tyler Huffar, Bryce and Kyle Hanson; one brother, Robert Kristianson of Beloit, WI; one sister, Dorothy Faltinson of Delavan, WI; mother-in-law, Edna Altendorf of Janesville, WI; several brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews; special friend, Cindy Helms.

He was predeceased by his parents and an infant son, Jeffrey Lee.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2003 in the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jim Rowlette officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI.

Memorials may be given in his name to the American Heart Association.

Dallas G. Helm, 91, of Beloit, WI, died Monday, October 13, 2003 in Pioneer Court.

He was born August 20, 1912 in Willow Spring, WI, the son of Abner and Barbara Aumstutz Helm. Dallas married Rose Ida Wenger on October 18, 1930 in Monroe, WI.

Dallas was employed by Freeman Shoe for 39 years, retiring in 1972. He also farmed on the Westside of Beloit. Dallas was a member of the Freeman 20 year Club. He was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, South Beloit, IL, a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Beloit and Lutheran Brotherhood. He was an avid bowler and a member of the senior league.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Ida; one daughter, Barbara Jean (Duane) Austin of Beloit, WI; one son, Dallas (Marilyn) Helm Jr. of Park Falls, WI; one daughter-in-law, Beverly Helm of Beloit, WI; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, one son, John Helm, two sisters, Margaret and Ellen, one brother, Raymond Helm.

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Thursday, October 16, 2003 in Calvary Lutheran Church with the Reverend Kurt Handrich officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until the time of services Thursday in the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name to Hospice Inc.

MARY M. HARRIS, 79, of Beloit, WI, died Thursday, June 26, 2003 in Beloit Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 1, 2003 in St. Jude Catholic Church with Fr. Steve Kortendick officiating. Burial was in Mt. Thabor Cemetery. Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.

ROBERT M. HARRER, 79, of Beloit, WI, died Saturday, September 13, 2003 in Beloit Memorial Hospital.

He was born October 24, 1923 in Beloit, WI, the son of John and Mary Zei Harrer. Robert was a 1941 graduate of Beloit High School. He was a WWII veteran serving in the Army Air Corps. Robert married Clarinda “Skip” Fochs on June 5, 1946 in St. Thomas Catholic Church, Beloit, WI.

Robert was employed by Wisconsin Power & Light for 39 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Clarinda “Skip” Harrer of Beloit, WI; children, Diane (John) Dershem of Joshua Tree, CA, Joseph (Marcia) Harrer of Waukesha, WI, John (Sally) Harrer of Albuquerque, NM, and James (Jane) Harrer of St. Peters, MO; six grandchildren, Teresa (James) Spradlin Jr., Jennifer (fiancé Dan Buzard) Harrer, Sarah Harrer, Robert Harrer, Michael Harrer and Matthew Harrer; one great grandson, Cameron Joseph Naegele; one sister, Katherine Fay of Castaic, CA; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, one grandson, Timothy Harrer, and two brothers, Carl and William Harrer.

Prayer services will be 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2003 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Jude Catholic Church with Fr. Steven Kortendick officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with a scripture service at 6 p.m.

Memorials may be given in his name to Brother Dutton School.
