Joseph George Maurizzi, 83, of Rockford, IL, a former resident of Beloit, WI for 45 years died Thursday, September 16, 2004 in River Bluff Nursing Home in Rockford, IL.

He was born December 2, 1920 in Franklin, Kansas the son of Vincent and Anna Gibson Maurizzi. Joseph was a World War II Veteran of the Army Air Corps serving with the 100th Bomb Squadron. He was stationed in England, then France and Germany. He married Lucille M. Cruice on May 4, 1942 in California.

Joseph was a former employee of Beloit Corporation. He was the owner and operator of ABC Fire Extinguisher Company for 35 years. Joseph was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Beloit Elks Lodge #864, Janesville Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #197, Rockton American Legion Post #352 and The Beloit Businessmen's Club. He enjoyed Golfing and Ball Room Dancing.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Lucille; his daughter, Cheryl McMillan of Milwaukee, WI; his sons, Joseph R. (Joyce) Maurizzi of Roscoe, IL, Philip (Marilyn) Maurizzi of Beloit, WI; seven grandchildren, Robert Maurizzi, Bud Maurizzi, Maria (Ken) Luebke, Janet (Michael) Stodola, Andrew Maurizzi, Molly Maurizzi, and David Maurizzi; great grandchildren, Stacy Dorst, Nicholas Luebke, Keegan Luebke, Mathew Luebke, Christopher Maurizzi, Alex Maurizzi and Catcher Stodola; brother, Vincent (Marion) Maurizi of New Milford, IL; sister, Catherine Hopper of Burlington, CO; half brother, James (Frances) Weber of Colorado Springs, CO; half sister, Mary Ann (William) Johnson of Independence, KS; and brother-in-law, Bernard Cruice of Dodgeville, WI.

He was predeceased by his parents and half brother Edward Weber.

Joseph was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He will be missed by all.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2004 in St. Thomas Catholic Church with the Fr. Jim Kuhn officiating. Burial will be held at Mt Thabor Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 20, 2004 with Scripture Service to be held at 6:00 p.m. in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI 53511.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Society or St. Thomas Catholic Church.

Frank M. Mitchell, 91, of Beloit, WI, died Saturday, July 24, 2004 at Sun Valley West.

He was born August 23, 1913 in Chariton, IA the son of Clinton and Agnes Amblang Mitchell. Frank graduated from Chariton High School in IA. He married Leona Weidman on September 12, 1936 in Iowa. Frank worked road construction for several companies.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Leona, his children, James (Deborah) Mitchell of Janesville, WI, Carolynn Roberts of Stillman Valley, IL, Ruth Taaffe of Beloit, WI and Linda (Michael) Statter of Beloit, WI; grandchildren, Tracy Wagner of Milwaukee, WI, Melissa Mitchell of Milwaukee, WI, Timothy (Vonnie) of Stillman Valley, IL, Christopher Roberts of Stillman Valley, IL, Andrew Roberts of Chicago, IL, Michael Aston of Beloit, WI, Matthew (Stephanie) Aston of West Bend, WI, David (Amy) Taaffe of Evansville, WI, John Semrau, Jr. of Beloit, WI, Allison Semrau of Beloit, WI, Todd Statter of Beloit, WI and nine great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, son-in-law, Delbert W. Roberts, two brothers Richard and Glen Mitchell.

Private services will be at Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI. Entombment will be in the Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, South Beloit, IL.

Laura Ester Marquardt, 76, of Beloit, WI, passed away at her home on June 15, 2004.

Laura was the daughter of Siegfred E. and Alma L. Krenke Fette. She was born in Meriden, MN on the 21st day of June, 1927. Laura taught kindergarten and 2nd grade at St. John's School in Beloit from 1950 to 1957. On May 26, 1956 she married John W. Marquardt in Beloit. John and Laura taught Sunday school at St. John Lutheran Church for over 30 years.

She is survived by her loving husband, John; her son, Kenneth J. (Brenda) Marquardt and daughter, Victoria P. (Bruce) Swanson; seven grandchildren, Miranda, Gabrielle, and Keegan Marquardt, Hannah (Seth Pautsch) Alidah, Aron, and Erik William Swanson; three great grandchildren, Cassandra Swanson, Indy and August Pautsch; two sisters, Charlene and Christina; two brothers, Armin and John and their families; and her husbands family in Minnesota.

She was predeceased by her mother and father, an infant daughter and son.

The family would like to express their gratitude for all the wonderful care Hospice provided.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2004 in St. John Lutheran Church with the Reverend Mark Yates officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services Friday in the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran School.

Grethe S. Murphy, 83, of Beloit, WI, died Monday, June 14, 2004 in Riverside Terrace, Beloit, WI.

She was born April 17, 1921 on the family homestead farm in Andes, MT, the daughter of Adolph and Kari Melby Strand. Grethe attended Montana State College in Havre, Montana and graduated from U.W. Whitewater with a B.A. Degree in Elementary Education. She married James L. Murphy on June 18, 1943 in Buffalo, NY. He predeceased her on March 1, 2002.

Grethe began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in rural Montana. She continued her career at the American School in Medellin, Colombia, where she lived for seven years with her family. While there, she taught her four oldest children. The two youngest girls were born in Colombia. Grethe is remembered and loved by many Beloit students from Kenucane, Townview and Powers Schools, where she taught for 26 years, retiring in 1986.

Grethe's kindness, generosity and the warmth of her smile were known, and will be remembered, by all whose life she touched.

She was a member of the Beloit Area Teachers Association, Intermediate Women's Club, Beloit Hospital Auxiliary, Thursday Club, and Lioness with the Beloit Noon Lions Club. In her retirement, she continued her focus on education in volunteer work through the Literacy Council. Grethe was also a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and the Marian Guild.

Survivors include her children: James (Raquel) Murphy of Mequon, WI; Paul (Sharon) Murphy of Portland, OR; Kathleen (Charles) Rydberg of Janesville, WI; Marie Murphy of Baltimore, MD; Margaret (James) Murphy-Mehls of Whitefish Bay, WI; and Joanne (Butch) Pickett of Beloit, WI; 12 grandchildren, James Murphy-Aguilu, Ivette Murphy-Aguilu, Justin Murphy, Erin Murphy, Joanna Rydberg, Caroline Rydberg, Anais Naharro Murphy, Alexandria Mehls, Seamus Mehls, Riley Mehls, Joseph Pickett and Jeffrey Pickett; three sisters, Merle (Thomas) Burgess of Lake Oswego, OR, Audrey Ruffatto of Brockton, MT and Barbara Toft of Kalispell, MT; one brother, Leonard (Emma) Strand of Lambert, MT; two brothers-in-law, Patrick (Mollie) Murphy of Las Vegas, NV and Joseph (Janet) Murphy of Boise, ID.

She was predeceased by her parents, brother, Archie Strand, sister-in-law, Bernie Strand, two brothers-in-law, Peter Ruffatto and Richard Toft.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2004 in St. Jude Catholic Church with Fr. Steve Kortendick officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services Friday in the church.

Memorials may be given in her name to St. Jude Catholic Church, Beloit Regional Hospice or the Literacy Council.

Estherbelle Matthews, 89, of South Beloit, IL, died Saturday, June 5, 2004 in Premier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing.

She was born May 24, 1915 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Albert and Alice Smith Porter. Estherbelle married Russell Matthews on September 30, 1935 in Geneva, IL. They enjoyed 60 years together, before Russell's death on March 18, 1996.

Estherbelle was employed by Jackson Monument and later for Klenzade. She loved to sew and knit, making many wonderful keepsakes for her family over the years.

Survivors include her children, Nancy (James) Miller of South Beloit, IL and David (Carol) Matthews of Ocala, FL; six grandchildren, Michael (Valori) Miller, Cindy (Scott) Schuldt, Matthew Miller, Marc (Becky) Miller, Jodi (Tim) Shea and Tom Matthews; 11 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, one granddaughter, Vickie Lynn Miller, and her brother, Albert Porter.

Private family services will be Tuesday, June 8, 2004 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with the Reverend Jim Rowlette officiating. Entombment will be in the Shrine of Memories Mausoleum, Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL.

Denton K. McDonald, 89, of Beloit, WI, died Monday, May 31, 2004 in his home.

He was born October 31, 1914 in Lake Geneva, WI, the son of Robert and Gertrude Kinney McDonald. Denton married Nealda L. Faralli on July 2, 1937 in Beloit, WI. He was a graduate of Beloit High School, Beloit, WI. Denton was employed at Freeman Shoe Company for 45 years as a Stitcher. He was a member of the Freeman Twenty-Year Club. Denton was an active lifelong member of the First Baptist Church serving on the Foundation Board, Deaconate Board and as an Usher.

Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Nealda; three sons, David (Claudia) McDonald of Rochester, MN, William (Nancy) McDonald of Las Vegas, NV, and Bradley McDonald of Bahra'n, Saudi Arabia; one daughter, Mary (Dwight) Dyer of Centennial, CO; grandchildren, John McDonald, William (Gina) McDonald, Nanette (Chris) Fisher, Jody Summer, Jamie McDonald, Jessica McDonald, Alex Dyer and Lindsay Dyer; great grandchildren, Stephanie Fisher, Adam Fisher, Katie Simpson, and Michael McDonald; one brother, Robert McDonald of Healdsburg, CA

He was predeceased by his parents, and one sister, Gertrude gScottyh Palmer.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2004 at the First Baptist Church, 617 Public Ave, Beloit, WI with the Reverend Gene VanGalder officiating. Private Burial will be held at East Lawn Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI assisted the family with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name to the First Baptist Church.

Sandra R. Midile, 59, of Beloit, WI, died Sunday, May 16, 2004 in the University Hospital, Madison, WI.

She was born March 20, 1945 in Portland, OR, the daughter of Robert and Phyllis Casey Richardson. Sandra was a 1963 graduate of Beloit Memorial High School. She married Ronnie Weberg in 1963 in Beloit. Sandra then married Randy Tracy in 1973 in Rockton, IL. She later married Joseph Midile in 1981 in Rockton, IL.

Sandra was employed by Wolff Brothers, retiring in 2003. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and giving afghans to family members. Sandra loved spending time with her grandchildren and family most of all.

Survivors include her children, Karl (Connie) Weberg of Janesville, WI, Darl (Scott) Silvis of Beloit, WI and Travis James Tracy of Rockton, IL; grandchildren, Justin, Blythe, Micalynn, and Kyleigh Weberg all of Janesville, WI, Sara and Seth Silvis of Beloit, WI; her father, Robert Richardson of Beloit, WI; two brothers, Darrell Richardson of Joliet, IL and Bobby (Ann Naslund) Richardson of Beloit, WI; nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to the UW Hospital for their exceptional care during her kidney transplant, as well as the generous donation of all organ donors and their families.

She was predeceased by her mother, Phyllis Richardson.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 2004 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Pastor Norman Starks officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. until the time of services Thursday in the funeral home.

Charles Ronald MacKechnie, 79, of Beloit, WI, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004 in Beloit Memorial Hospital.

He was born November 3, 1924 in Rockford, IL, the son of John and Mabel Norman Mackechnie. Charles graduated from Rockford East High School and received his bachelors in education from Northern Illinois specializing in industrial arts. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Rhineland Campaign receiving the Overseas Service Bar, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with a Bronze Battle Star, Good Conduct medal, WWII Victory medal and was honored with the Combat Infantryman Expert Award. Charles married Shirley A. Izzo on September 5, 1947 in the First Presbyterian Church in Rockford, IL. She predeceased him on August 20, 1993.

Charles worked for 39 years as an educator and administrator for Roosevelt Junior High and Beloit Memorial High School, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Beloit Noon Lions Club.

Survivors include his children, Carol MacKechnie and John MacKechnie both of Beloit, WI; three grandsons, Anthony John MacKechnie, Thomas John MacKechnie and Roger John MacKechnie.

He was predeceased by his parents and daughter, Nancy Jorgensen.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2004 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with the Reverend Thomas R. Wanner officiating. Entombment will be in Shrine of Memories Mausoleum, Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
