Alois Laurent
Alois Al Laurent, 83, 261 Pine St., Luxemburg, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at his residence after a short illness. He was born on the family homestead Jan. 13, 1917 in the Lincoln area, the fifth child in a family of nine children, to the late Jule and Kate Kipping Laurent. He began working at the U.S. Plywood at the age of 17, and retired at the age of 60. Al married Emily Dhuey Nov. 17, 1937. They lived in Algoma the majority of their life. Al enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, working with wood, playing cards, family trout boils and in his younger years, hunting and fishing. He was a charter member of the Algoma Boat Club. After his retirement in 1977, the couple spent 21 winters in Mesa, Ariz., where he enjoyed golf and family that lived there. Al is survived by his wife, Emily, of 63 years; one daughter, Jan Steve Langlais, Algoma; two sons, Gene Barb, Wausau; and Dan Karon, West Bend; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard Laurent, Green Bay; two sisters, Grace Goldie Thiry, Casco; and Betty Challe, Rio Creek; one brother-in-law, Raymond Bouche, Kewaunee; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Walter and Johnny; and two sisters, Virginia Deprey and Fern Bouche. Friends may call at the Schinderle Funeral Home, Algoma, from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, and after 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary"s Catholic Church, Algoma, until the time of the Mass at 11 a.m. with Rev. Milton Suess officiating. Prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary"s Cemetery. Either God makes us better, or He calls us home.

Esther C. Doehler
Esther C. Doehler, 91, Kewaunee, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000 at the Kewaunee Health Care Center. She was born April 28, 1909 at West Kewaunee to the late Wenzel and Anna Pawlitzky Jerovitz. She married Erwin A. Doehler on Nov. 28, 1928. He preceded her in death Oct. 18, 1966. She and her husband farmed all their lives in the town of Montpelier until retiring and moving to Kewaunee. She enjoyed gardening and baking. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter"s Lutheran Church and a charter member of the Ladies Aid. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Erwin P. and Dorothy Doehler, Kewaunee; John and Carol Doehler, Denmark; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ethel Duescher, Milwaukee; Myrtle Ziemer, Kewaunee; and one brother and sister-in-law, Orville and Ethel Jerovitz, Green Bay. She was preceded in death by an infant son; three brothers, Art, Clarence and Elmer Jerovitz; and one sister, Ella Zimmerman-Fanslau. Friends called after 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at Buchanan Funeral Home, Kewaunee, and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter"s Lutheran Church in the town of Carlton. The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with Rev. Robert Romberg officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Mrs. Richard Rose Neinas
Mrs. Richard Rose Neinas, 88, formerly of 343 Hwy. S, Algoma, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at the Algoma Long Term Care Unit. She was born Dec. 25, 1911 in Maplewood, to the late Eugene and Mary Englebert Alexander. Rose married Richard Neinas June 9, 1937 in Maplewood. The couple farmed in the town of Forestville for over 50 years. The couple moved to Algoma in 1994. Richard preceded her in death March 9, 1996. She was a member of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church and a former member of the Christian Mothers. Rose is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Richard Melotte, Algoma; and Susan Joseph Novotny, Green Bay; four grandchildren, Jason and Laurie Melotte and Andy and Rachel Novotny; two sisters, Laura Larson, Algoma; and Mary Ann Ken Feld, Algoma; two brothers, Clarence Annamae Alexander, Algoma; and Charles Dorothy Alexander, Chippewa Falls; two sisters-in-law, Leona Alexander, Zion, Ill.; and Dorothy Alexander, Green Bay; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and five brothers. Friends called at the Schinderle Funeral Home, Algoma, from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, and after 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Name of Mary Church, Maplewood, until the time of the Mass at 11 a.m. with Fr. Wilbert Buhl officiating. Prayer service was held at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Entombment was at the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.

John A. Fox
John A. Fox, 80, of 608 Milwaukee St., Kewaunee, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000 at The Fountains of Kewaunee. He was born March 24, 1920 at Athens, Mich., to the late Marion and Mary Snyder Fox. He was a graduate of Kalamazoo College, Kalamazoo. He was employed by the Upjohn Co. for 37 years as a research biochemist. He moved to Minnesota for a short time, then moved to Kewaunee in 1986. John was an Eagle Scout and served as a Scout leader for many years. He coached youth sports and was instrumental in establishing the Door/ Kewaunee Chapter of the Ice Age Trail and Park Foundation. He was an avid camper through his 79th year. He served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He is survived by Della Fox, Kewaunee; five sons and two daughters-in-law, Thomas and Connie Fox, Robert Fox and Timothy Fox, all of Michigan; Andrew Rey and Benjamin and Cathi Rey, all of Minnesota; one granddaughter, McKayla Rey, Minnesota; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Margaret Fox, South Carolina; one sister, Patricia Auten, Michigan; and nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Buchanan Funeral Home, Kewaunee. A private family service will be held later.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Ice Age Trail and Park Foundation, 207 E. Buffalo St., Suite 515, Milwaukee, WI 53202-5712, or take a walk in the woods and enjoy the beauty.

Elizabeth J. Howell
Elizabeth J. Howell, age 87, of Sister Bay, died at Scandia Village in Sister Bay on Friday, Oct. 13, 2000. She was born Aug. 7, 1913 in Bay Shore, N.Y., to Frederick Max and Harriet Huber. She married Carleton Bell Howell on June 9, 1934 and he preceded her in death on Sept. 7, 1977. Elizabeth was raised in Long Island, N.Y., and then lived in Schaefferstown, Pa., Algoma, and moved to Meadows Apartments in Sister Bay in 1994 and lived there and the Scandia Village complex until her death. She was a free-lance writer, columnist and author. She most recently wrote for the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Algoma Record-Herald and the Scandia Village newsletter. Books she has written include 'Continuity,' a family history; 'Land of the Great Gray Wolf,' history of Algoma; and 'Domestic Abuse, America"s Hidden Horror.' She owned and operated Horse Happy Farm, a summer riding camp for children in Pennsylvania, and raised Morgan horses in the 1960s. She is survived by children, Lisbeth Ann Peterson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Daphne Diane Born of Huntsville, Ala.; Robin Karen Butchart of Fish Creek; Carleton Frederick Howell of Dallas, Texas; and Claudia Jill Howell of Portland, Ore. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at the Casperson Funeral Home, Sister Bay, from 3 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18. A memorial service will be held at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church, Ellison Bay, Friday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m., the Rev. Joe Mazza officiating.

Stacey Loberger
Stacey Anne Champeau Loberger, 27, Green Bay, died unexpectedly Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000 at a Green Bay hospital. She was born in Green Bay Sept. 12, 1973 to Mark and Rebecca Woods Champeau. She married Bert Loberger May 8, 1992 at St. Bernard"s Church. Stacey worked at Parkview Manor Nursing Home. She loved doing crafts and home interior decorating. Surviors include three children, Mercede, Cruzz and Dominic, all at home; her parents, Mark and Donna Champeau, Green Bay, and Walt and Rebecca Varga, Luxemburg; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Angela and Earle Becker, Green Bay; Tina DeRuyter and fianc/ Kevin Carr, Francis Creek; Stephanie Champeau and fianc/ Robert Sponenburg, Denmark; grandparents, Max Woods, Green Bay; Burt and Violet Varga, Algoma; Evelyn Hug, Freedom; godparents, Edward Champeau and Cindy Champeau, both of Green Bay; special friend and companion, Scott Farah, Green Bay; aunts, uncles, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by grandparents, Edward and Josephine Champeau, Margaret Woods and Norman Hug. Friends called at Malcore Funeral Home, Green Bay, Friday, Oct. 13, from 4-8 p.m. Prayer service was at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Saturday, visitation continued at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Green Bay, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. The funeral service was at 11 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Reverend John Poppe officiating. The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. Gerald "Jerry" Robinson Sr.
Gerald 'Jerry' Robinson Sr., age 59, Luxemburg, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 10, 2000, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 27, 1940, in West Branch, Mich., to the late Kenneth and Mary Donders Robinson. Jerry worked in logging and construction most of his life and owned his own trucking company. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming. He married Kathy Lindbeck June 24, 1994, in Sturgeon Bay. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; two sons, Alan and Gerald Jr. 'Poncho' Robinson, Watersmeet, Mich.; one daughter, Shannon Young, Weston; one stepdaughter, Angie Brownell, Watersmeet, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Kenneth Robinson; and one sister, Sandy Brewer. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sherri Lynn; and one brother, William Robinson. Visitation was held at McMahon Funeral Home, Luxemburg, from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, and visitation continued after 1 p.m. Sunday at Wandersee Funeral Home, Bruce Crossing, Mich., until the memorial service at 3 p.m.

Marian E. Stewart
Marian E. Stewart, 86, Oconto, died at a local nursing home on October 15, 2000. Marian was born July 24, 1914 at Abrams to the late Richard and Florence Westcott. She married Wilbur Stewart in August of 1934. He preceded her in death February 14, 1985. Marian worked at Bond Pickle Co., Oconto for 24 years, retiring in 1971. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Oconto. Survivors include a grandson, Jeff Tabor and fiancee, Jan Vosters, Kaukauna; a brother, Linwood Jean Westcott, Abrams; a sister, Marjorie Wasurick, Mountain; and a great-grandson, Jason Beno. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wilbur; a son, Richard; a daughter, Barbara Tabor, and two sisters, Ruby Heider and Betty Westcott. Friends may call at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Thomas Beck officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
