Harold “Hal” Oscar, 77, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep on March 29, 2005 at home, on the farm of his daughter Lynn and son-in-law, Wade Phillipps.

He was born on February 6, 1928 in Chicago, IL, the son of Harold C. and Rose Ann (Karol) Oscar, Sr. Hal served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Philippines during WWII. He married his beloved Rose “Rosie” Dornbusch on March 28, 1953. He spent several of his early years building and racing cars on oval tracks near Chicago. The majority of his working life was spent buying and remodeling distressed properties in Chicago, where he also did the same for several of the Chicago area real estate investors.

He moved to Wisconsin after retirement in the early 1980’s. Hal loved old blues music, all types of ethnic food, dogs and all the various animals on the farm, and was an avid reader. Family poker games, cook outs and fishing were his favorite pastimes along with going to auctions, working on trucks and fixing all kinds of things for family and friends. He was a passionate Democrat and watched C-SPAN faithfully. Going to the casino with his wife Rose and son, Terry was their fun getaway. Hal is well loved by many young people who always came to “grandpa” to fix their bikes, cars, 4-wheelers and trucks. Dad was always ready to go junking with his grandsons, Jess and Chuck and son-in-law and friend, Wade. He really enjoyed the family poker nights and always had Dakota laughing as they argued over the “rules” of poker. His granddaughter Carmen was his beautiful “petunia.”

He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Rose; sons, Jim Giessinger of Orfordville, WI and Terry Oscar of Brodhead, WI; daughter, Lynn (Wade) Phillipps of Brodhead, WI; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Chuck (Mindy) Diaz and sons, Koty, Bradlee and Brandon (who called him “old grandpa”), Jess (Cassie) Stavn and daughter, Katlynn who called him, “great papa, ” Carmen (Jeff) Copus and daughter, Autumn and son, Austin who called him “great grandpa, ” his tender hearted grandson, Dakota Stavn, Lynn (Butch) Giessinger, Tony (Sandy) Schaefer, Danielle, Douglas and Tanisha, Chad (Kim) Phillipps, Ashley and Nicole Phillipps; sister, Carol (Merle) Schirado of Jackson, FL and their daughters, Deb (George) Aed, Susan (Mark) Thomas, and Paula (Tim) Rathburn and their children; cousins, Kurt Teich and John Oscar and their families.

He was predeceased by his parents and great grandson.

Hal enjoyed many happy memories of visits to South Dakota and Minnesota to spend time with Rose’s brothers and sisters and their families, the Dornbush clan that he loved very much. He will also be missed by his dear lifelong friend, Frank (Lois) Kretchmer and family. Hal and Rose had just celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on March 28, 2005. He was the best husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa and friend to many. He taught by example. We all loved him and will miss him so very much.

Hal would not want us to be sad. We have many wonderful memories and know dad will always be there for us; in the sky, in the trees, in the changes of the seasons, and the bird sitting on the fence. He didn’t want to leave us, but he is up in heaven with Bradlee and the rest of the family and he will always be watching over us, in peace.

We all love you Dad, and we will never forget you..

Hal’s family said their goodbye’s privately at home and per his wishes there will be no services. Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.
