Carl W. Whiting
Carl W. Whiting, 74, died in St. Mary's Medical Center on Sunday, October 1, 2000. He was born in Manitowoc on June 28, 1926, to the late Everett William and Gladys Mae nee: Brown Whiting. On February 5, 1948, he was united in marriage with the former Mary Kathrine Feranchek. She preceded him in death on September 13, 1995. Mr. Whiting served his nation with the United States Army as a Tank Operator during World War II. He spent a majority of his life working with various construction companies. He always enjoyed hunting and bowling during his free time; however, his favorite moments were with his family. He is survived by his children, David Marie Johnson of Kenosha, Linda Robert Leisner, and Gladys Gene Sems, both of Racine; eight grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Lyle Donna Whiting of Oconto, Janice Lloyd Wiedenhaft of Stiles, Arlend Joan Whiting of Suring, and Gloria James Smith of Pembine; sisters-in-law, Ethel Tessman and Dorothy Feranchek, both of Racine; Betty Schulz of Lady Lake, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives. His grandson, Scott Vorlob, and brother, Clair Whiting, also preceded Mr. Whiting in death. Family and friends called at the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Thursday, October 5, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. for the funeral service with Rev. Jeffrey M. Thielen officiating. Private burial services with military honors took place in Graceland Cemetery.

Geraldine 'Gerry' Willes
Geraldine 'Gerry' Willes, 77, Kingston Road, Mountain died at St. Vincent Hospital October 14, 2000. She was born in Crandon October 4, 1923 to the late William and Catherine Obrien Joas. She married Henry Willes June 2, 1942 in Gillett. The couple lived all of their married life in Mountain except for 12 years spent in Michigan. Gerry was an avid Packer fan, enjoyed playing cards, did crossword puzzles, and loved to play her guitar and sing. She was a member of the Mountain Church of Christ. Survivors include her loving husband for 58 years, Henry Willes of Mountain; her daughter, Jeraldine Miller, of Gillett; her son, Ronald Sue Willes, of Gillett; two brothers, William Carolyn Joas, of East Troy, Larry Pat Joas of Manitowoc; two sisters, Alice Mark Gagnon, of Manitowoc, Lulabelle Leonard Koch, of Green Bay; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Gerry was preceded in death by her brother Edward. Visitation was held at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring. Funeral service was 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 17 at Mountain Church of Christ with Pastor Robert Jeffrey officiating. Burial in Mountain Cemetery.

Kannon Allen Michael
Kannon Allen Michael, infant son of Ryan and Barbara Sokol Michael, Pound, died unexpectedly Saturday, October 7, 2000 at a Green Bay hospital following complications prior to birth. He is survived by his parents, Ryan and Barbara Michael, Pound; paternal grandparents, Nick and Marty Michael, Lena; maternal grandparents, Allen Sokol, Lena; Betty Sokol, Oconto; maternal great-grandmother, Rose Sokol, Las Vegas, NV; his aunts and uncles, Shawn, Paul-Christopher, Sarah, Brittany, Danielle, Nathan, Timothy, Elizabeth and Erin Michael all at home; Derrick Schwittay, Oconto; Laurie and Allen Jr. Sokol at home; two cousins, Tyler and Tiffany Schwittay. He was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandparents and maternal great-grandfather, Albert Sokol. Friends called at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls after 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of services. Funeral was 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Frank Hazelo officiating. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oconto Falls.

Bernice A. Tomalak
Bernice A. Tomalak, 81, Oconto Falls, died Monday morning, October 9l, 2000 at Sharpe Care Ltd. She was born October 21, 1918 in Chicago to Joseph and Anna Supok Bukowski. On October 25, 1941, she married Walter Tomalak in Spruce. Following their marriage, the couple lived in the Town of How for many years until Walter's death in 1967. Mrs. Tomalak then moved to Oconto Falls, where she worked at the hospital, city hall and post office as their cleaning person. Survivors are her three sons and four daughters-in-law, Louis and JoAnn Tomalak, Carolyn Tomalak, all of Waukesha; Daniel and Susan Tomalak, Green Bay; Ervin and Susan Tomalak, Oconto Falls; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Andrew and John Burkowski, Lena; Joe Bukowski, Oconto Falls. Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her son, Alvin in 1994; one brother; two sisters; and one grandson, Shannon. Friends called at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls after 4 p.m. Wednesday until the time of services. A service of remembrance was held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial in the Town of How Cemetery.

Roger T. Schingeck
Roger T. Schingeck, 61, 140 Farnsworth, Oconto died unexpectedly, October 10, 2000 at Community Memorial Hospital, Oconto Falls. Roger was born July 19, 1939 at Marinette to the late Emil and Emma Blahnik Schingeck. He married Roxanne Kapica April 20, 1963. Roger worked at Stock Lumber Co., Oconto for over 40 years. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish and the Knights of Columbus. Roger loved many things, the most important was his wife Roxanne. He also loved scratch off cards, animals, and trains, riding on them and looking at them. He is survived by his wife Roxanne; four brothers, Leonard Nancy, Milwaukee; Donald Irene, Wausaukee; Richard and Arnold of Marinette; three sisters, Doris George Laitinen, Stephenson, MI; Marjorie Ray Wyman, Shawano; Gladys Neil Uhl, Coleman; many nieces and nephews; special friends Jim Manzetti and family and Matt Karban and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ken and Ralph. Friends called at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto. A parish wake service and a Knights of Columbus Rosary was held. Mass of Christianl Burial was 10 a.m. Friday, October 13 at Precious Blood Catholic Church, Stephenson, MI with Rev. Raymond Hoefgen officiating. Burial at Stephenson Township Cemetery.

Veronica M. Hearley
Veronica M. Hearley, 89, of Oconto, died Monday, October 9, 2000 at Manor Care West in Green Bay. She was born to the late Archie and Mary Jarvis Patenaude May 13, 1911 in the Town of Brazeau, WI. Veronica married Peter Hearley December 24, 1926 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Oconto. He preceded her in death. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Oconto and St. Anne's Society. Surviving are her children, Bernard Hearley, Butler, WI; Bernadette James Clark, Phoenix, AZ; Robert Linda Hearley, Abrams; 22 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Melvin Lillian Patenaude, Hartford; two daughters-in-law, Faye Hearley, Oconto; Anita Hearley, Oconto; one son-in-law, Gene Deprey, Oconto Falls; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Patenaude, Oconto Falls; Adelle Patenaude, Little Suamico. Veronica was preceded in death by three sons, Franklin, Francis and George; one daughter, Marlene Deprey; five brothers, Nelson, Sam, Edmund, Erving, and Lucian; three sisters, Rose Strange, Lucille Dionne and Betty Steinkrause, and one daughter-in-law, Anna Hearley. Friends called at the Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home, 121 Chicago Street, Oconto. St. Anne's Society Rosary Service and a Parish Vigil Service was held. The Funeral Mass was held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Oconto St. Joseph site at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 12, with Rev. David C. Ruby officiating. Interment at Oconto Catholic Cemetery.

Gladys A. Scanlan
Gladys A. Scanlan, 92, Oconto died October 5, 2000 at her home. Gladys was born June 2, 1908 at Green Bay to the late Frank and Anna Pagel. She married Urban Scanlan July 26, 1941. She worked as a bookkeeper most of her life, working at Northern Glove and Mitten, Green Bay; Holt Hardwood, Oconto and Scanlan and Stock Lumber Co., Oconto. Gladys and Urban enjoyed their winters at Matlacha, Florida. Urban preceded her in death September 29, 1992. Gladys was a member of First American Lutheran Church, Oconto and Fishers of Men Lutheran Church, Pine Island, FL. She was also a former member of the Oconto Woman's Club. She enjoyed oil painting, gardening and was an animal lover. Survivors include one son, John Patrick Judy Scanlan, Oconto; a sister, Mabel VanBoxtel, Green Bay; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Allan and Delcian Scanlan, Oconto; Charlotte Longsine, Oconto; Paul and Marion Younger, Oconto; Doris and Wallace Schneider, Milwaukee; Viola Pagel, Green Bay; also nieces and nephews. Gladys was preceded in death by a brother, Lester Pagel, and a sister, Evelyn Behnke. Friends called at the First American Lutheran Church, Oconto from 10 a.m. until 12 noon Friday, October 6, 2000. Funeral service was 12 noon, Friday, at the church with Rev. Richard DeBenedetto officiating. Entombemen at Nicolet Memorial Gardens, Green Bay. The Gallagher Funeral Home assisted the family.
A memorial fund has been established for First American Lutheran Church.

Linda N. Wiskow
Linda N. Wiskow, 84, died suddenly, Saturday morning, October 7, 2000. She was born April 5, 1916, in the Town of Gillett, to the late Henry and Nora Moede Siech. On July 5, 1935, Linda married Bernard Peterman, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Town of Gillett. He preceded her in death December 24, 1948. She then married Fred Wiskow, December 5, 1953, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Town of Gillett. He preceded her in death in 1957. She farmed in the Town of Gillett and then was employed by the former Mirro Aluminum Co., Gillett, until her retirement. Linda was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, town of Gillett and the Ladies Aide. She was a member of the Gillett Golden Agers, Oconto River Dartball League, Lone Oak Gun Club, and was a volunteer at the Gillett Meal site. Linda enjoyed fishing, cooking, baking, crafts, and caring for her family and friends. She enjoyed life to the fullest. Survivors include her children: Marcella Binkowski, West Allis; Mavis and Arnold Olson, Lawrence and Betty Peterman, Marlin Wiskow, Sr., all of Gillett; Dennis and Donna Wiskow, Suamico; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Marvin Siech, Gillett; Henry, Jr. and Ruby Siech; Vernon and Carol Siech, all of Green Bay; Walter and Shirley Siech, Sheboygan Falls; six sisters: Elda Mittag, Gillett; Martha Makos, Green Bay; Margaret Lemarande, Oconto; Lillian Pasack, Two Rivers; Hertha Richert, Hales Corners; Selma Richert, Gillett; stepchildren: Isabel Giese, Milwaukee; Carol and Vernon Siech; Dean and Cindy Wiskow, all of Green Bay; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Linda was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Joann Wirtz; one son-in-law, John Binkowski; two sisters, Ora Mae Siech and Norma Krueger; two brothers, Arnold and Gerhardt Siech; and two stepdaughters, Myrtle Schultz and Ruth Tolzman. Friends may call at the Kuehl Funeral Home, Gillett, Tuesday from 4-9 p. m. and then at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Town of Gillett, Wednesday after 10:30 a.m. Funeral services, 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2000, at the church, with Deacon Ralph Beversdorf officiating. Interment in the church cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established for Immanuel Lutheran Church, Town of Gillett.
