MARY J. SCHROEDER, 89, formerly of Beloit, WI, died Friday, May 9, 2003 in her daughter’s home in Bridgeview, IL.

She was born March 7, 1914 in Grand Island, Nebraska, the daughter of Homer and Cecil Lysinger Shilts. Mary married John Schroeder on January 30, 1937 in Milwaukee, WI. He predeceased her on October 9, 1983.

Mary was employed by Beloit State Bank, retiring in 1978. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church.

Survivors include her two daughters, Mary Sue Anderson of Denver, Co, and Sarah “Sally” (Jerry) Brackins of Bridgeview, IL; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents and one sister, Elizabeth Havel.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2003 in the St. Jude Catholic Church with Fr. Steven Kortendick officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services Tuesday in the church. Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Jude Catholic Church or to a charity of choice in Mary’s name.

DICKEY “Dick” L. SCRIBNER, 75, of Beloit, WI, died Monday, May 5, 2003 in Beloit Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 24, 1928 in Staples, MN, the son of Warren and Catherine Wonders Scribner. Dick was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII. He also served as a Platoon Sergeant with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Dick was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He married Irene M. Veden on May 3, 1952 in Santa Maria, CA. She predeceased him on July 9, 1989.Dick was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. He was also a member of the VFW in Staples, Minnesota.

Survivors include his nine children, Sheila (George) Guerrero of Midwest, OK, Vickie (Jeff) Dovenmuehle of Beloit, WI, Kim (Jean) Scribner of Two Harbors, MN, Babette Watkins, Tod (Wendy) Scribner both of Beloit, WI, Terry (Pam) Scribner of Clinton, WI; Lisa (Arlo) Hartley, Dick (Debbie) Scribner, and Irene (Glen) Coffey all of Beloit, WI; 24 grandchildren, Tina, Andrea, Brandi, Becky, Brian, Maria, Jill, Scott, Dick Gregory, Derek, Barbara, Brandon, Craig, Tammy, Jon, Thomas, Stacey, Kathleen, Curtis, Luke, Caitlan, Haley, Anna, and Teagan; three great grandchildren, Aspen, Olivia, and Logan; one brother, Warren (Dorothy) Scribner of Staples, MN; one sister, Mary (Ken) Krause of Wadena, MN

He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, Jay Scribner.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2003 in the St. Thomas Catholic Church with Fr. James Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI.

MARIE EDITH “Ma” STARR, 82, of Beloit, WI, died Saturday, May 3, 2003 in Beloit Memorial Hospital.

She was born September 28, 1920 in Orfordville, WI, the daughter of Henry Russell and Annie Hogan Nelson. Marie was a 1938 graduate of Orfordville High School. She married Donald J. Starr on July 15, 1939 in Luther Valley Church, Beloit, WI. He predeceased her on April 21, 1996.

Marie was a member of Luther Valley Church were she was the secretary for many years for the Sunday school office. She was a long time member of the Will of Gold Club and a member of The Friends of Beckman Mill.

Survivors include her two sons, James (Patricia) Starr of Janesville, WI, and Roger (Christine) Starr of Sun Prairie, WI; two daughters, Karen (Fay) Elliott of Arpin, WI, and Janice (Kevin) Johnson of Beloit, WI; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; one sister, Betty (Donald) Whitney of Rockford, IL; one brother, Charles (Shirley) Nelson of West Palm Beach, FL; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, Roger Nelson and Dean Nelson, two infant grandchildren, Jennifer Starr and Ruth Elliott.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2003 in Luther Valley Church with the Reverend Mary Froiland officiating. Burial will be in Luther Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI.

Memorials may be given in her name to Luther Valley Church or to the Beckman Mill.

KEITH WHITNEY SLOAN, 31, formerly of Beloit, WI, died on Saturday, April 26, 2003 in New York City. He was born July 6, 1971 in Beloit, WI, the son of Wanda Sloan and Willie Hodges Jr.

Survivors include his parents, one brother, Grantt Sloan-Goodson of Beloit, WI; two sisters, Letha Sloan of Milwaukee, WI, and Danita Sloan of Beloit, WI; two aunts, Marilyn Kilgore and Gail Sloan both of Beloit, WI; one great aunt, Elizabeth (George) Bowen and great uncle, William Sloan both of Rockford, IL; niece, Taylor McClinton; nephews Grey Goodson, Marcus Sloan McClinton and Isaiah Cosgrove all of Beloit, WI; Keith also had a host of other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Elbe and Hazel Sloan, paternal grandmother Christine Hodges and his special aunt, Lillian Hodges.

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2003 at Fountain of Life Holiness Tabernacle Church, 1600 E. Huebbe Pkwy, Beloit, WI. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services Saturday in the church. Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, is handling the arrangements.

ROSE M. SCHNEIDER, 89, of Beloit, WI, died Monday, April 14, 2003 in the home of her sister, Paul and Marie Froeba, with whom she resided the past 3 and ½ years, due to poor health.

She was born November 7, 1913 in Shanis, Switzerland, the daughter of Michael and Rosa Jud Schneider. Rose was employed by the Visiting Nurses Association of Muskegon, MI for 27 years, retiring in 1978. She was a member of Prince Of Peace Catholic Church in Muskegon, MI and Our Lady Of The Assumption Catholic Church.

Survivors include her six sisters, Marie (Paul) Froeba of Beloit, WI, Frieda Lichter of Antioch, Il, Margaret Seidel of Rib Lake, WI, Emma (Harry) Schroeder of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, and Agnes (Ross) Peterson of Phillips, WI; three brothers, Norbert (Joan) Schneider of Wausau, WI, Michael (Barbara) Schneider of Ocala, FL, and Pat (Adrian) Schneider of Rib Lake, WI; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, brother, Walter Schneider, four sisters, Bernice, Bertie, Rita and Ann.

Services will be a a later date. Inurnment will be in Rib Lake, WI.

GENEVIEVE C. SCHELMAN, 90, of Beloit, WI, died Monday, March 10, 2003 in Sun Valley Terrace, Beloit, WI.

She was born August 19, 1912 in Port Washington, WI, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine Corrado. Genevieve married Lynn H. Patrick on October 26, 1934 in So. Beloit, IL. He predeceased her on August 19, 1974. She later married Elmer C. Schelman on November 18, 1981 in the Our Lady Of The Assumption Catholic Church. He predeceased her on December 25, 1999.

Genevieve was employed by Warner Electric for 30 years as a legal secretary, retiring in 1970. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed vacationing in Florida during the winter. Genevieve was a member of Second Congregational Church.

Survivors include her two grandsons, T.J. (Bev) Patrick of South Beloit, IL, and Randy (Suzy) Patrick of Rockton, IL; four great grandchildren, Danica, Brooke, Jeremiah, and Nicholas Patrick; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

“ A special thanks to the caring staff of Sun Valley Terrace who took such wonderful care of our grandma.”

She was predeceased by her parents, son, Terry Patrick, and daughter-in-law, Barbara Lyman.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2003 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with the Reverend Douglas Gray officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be given to Second Congregational Church.

Thelma M. Taylor, 74 of Beloit, WI died Friday, March 25, 2005 at Beloit Memorial Hospital.

She was born on February 5, 1931 in Albia, IA the daughter of Reuben Lester and Laura Icel Richmond Martin. She married Albert Taylor on August 13, 1960 in Las Vegas, NV.

Thelma worked as a cashier at Speedway, SuperAmerica and Woolworth. She enjoyed the outdoors and camping at the Crazy Horse Campground in Brodhead, WI. for more then 10 years.

Survivors include her husband, Albert; sons Albert (Pam) Taylor of Beloit, WI, Gary (Dana) Taylor of Texas, Bill (Jean) Taylor of Indiana , Jack (Cindy) Bowles of Mississippi, Steven (Ivy) Bowles of Beloit, WI; daughters, Debbie (Russ) Banonas of Illinois, Vicki (David) Turner of Beloit, WI; 26 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; sister Darlene Kraave of East Moline, IL and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, grandparents, daughter, Linda D. Gitchel; son, Kenneth Taylor; two brothers and son-in-law Robert Gitchel.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI with Pastor David Meding of Central Christian Church officiating. Burial will be at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until time of service in the funeral home.

Lydia Elaine Thompson, 44, of Beloit, WI, died Friday, February 11, 2005 in her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on February 29, 1960 in Sun Valley, CA, the daughter of Lawrence “Red” and Phyllis Suedemeyer Thompson. Lydia was a 1978 graduate of Beloit Memorial High School and she received her Associates Degree in Police Science. She was employed by A&W restaurant, Pinkerton Security, stationed at GM Motors for many years and most recently the Beloit Inn.

Survivors include her son, Ryan Schroeder; mother, Phyllis Thompson; brother, Ken (Pam) Thompson; sister, Chris (Greg) Collier; nieces, Kelly, Cindy and Jackie Thompson, Courtney Fieser and Sarah Collier; nephews, Sean Fieser and Aaron Collier.

She was predeceased by her father, Lawrence “Red” Thompson and brother, Bill Thompson.

Memorial services will be 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2005 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with the Reverend William Wagner officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Betty Taber, 74, of Beloit, WI, died Thursday, January 27, 2005 in Beloit Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

She was born January 8, 1931 in Beloit, WI, the daughter of Spurgeon R. and Dorothy Kendall Scott. Betty married Dale M. Taber Sr. He predeceased her in May of 1989. She was employed by Beloit Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1987. Betty was an avid Packer fan. She was a member of Gridley Congregational Church.

Survivors include her children, Dale M. (Judy) Taber Jr. of Rockford, IL, Scott Taber of Beloit, WI and Brenda (Gerald) Faldet of Beloit, WI; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Phil Taber of Beloit, WI; sisters-in-law, Joyce Taber of Beloit, WI and Darlene Scott of Minnesota; special friends, Bud and Kathy Teadt, Dick and Florence Buchholz both of Beloit, WI; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, son, Mark, grandson, Mark Jr., brother, Richard Scott and sister, Sylvia Clayton.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 31, 2005 in the Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens Chapel, South Beloit, IL, with Pastor Norman Starks officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services Monday in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens Chapel. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Beloit Memorial Hospital.
